2. Taxonomy
• The name “coronavirus,” coined in 1968, is
derived from the “corona”-like or crown-like
morphology observed for these viruses in the
electron microscope. In 1975, the
Coronaviridae family was established by the
International Committee on the Taxonomy of
Viruses.

3. Introduction
• Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of
viruses that cause illness ranging from the
common cold to more severe diseases such as
Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-
CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
(SARS-CoV).
• Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain
that was discovered in 2019 and has not been
previously identified in humans.

4. Why Is it dangerous.
• Previously human strain of this family were
able to affect only Upper respiratory tract,
because it replicate in 32 to 35 degree
temperature.
• But SARS-CoV-2 can replicate at 37 degree
temperature which is our normal body
temperature so It can causes lower respiratory
tract infection.

5. Mode of transmission
Person-to-person spread
• The virus is thought to spread mainly from
person-to-person.
• Between people who are in close contact with
one another (within about 6 feet).
• Through respiratory droplets produced when an
infected person coughs or sneezes.
• These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of
people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled
into the lungs.

6. Spread from contact with contaminated
Surfaces or objects
• It may be possible that a person can get
COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that
has the virus on it and then touching their
own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but
this is not thought to be the main way the
virus spreads.

7. Sign and symptoms
• Common signs of infection include respiratory
symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath
and breathing difficulties. In more severe
cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe
acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and
even death.

– Infect CT scene is more sensitive in present than
RT PCR.
– In CT scene glassy white appearance seen.

9. Prevention
Wash your hands frequently
• Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands
with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them
with soap and water.
– Washing your hands with soap and water or using
alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be
on your hands.

10. • Maintain social distancing
• Maintain at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance
between yourself and anyone who is coughing or
sneezing.
– When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small
liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may
contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in
the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the
person coughing has the disease.
• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
– Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses.
Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to
your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can
enter your body and can make you sick.

11. • Practice respiratory hygiene
• Make sure you, and the people around you,
follow good respiratory hygiene. This means
covering your mouth and nose with your bent
elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.
• If you have fever, cough and difficulty
