Using the concept map, outline prior knowledge vs. questions.
Define a Concept Map, Prior Knowledge and how and why to ask 

questions prior to learning a new idea.
Try and answer a question on the concept map together.
Ask Yourself: how does this topic relate to and effect your life?
Using the Note Taking Skills worksheet, write notes
while listening to the video. After the video, sort
those notes into main ideas and sub topics in the
right column. (25 min).
Student Groups present to whole group their notes and are able to
explain why they organized their written content into main or sub
topics and complete the After You Learn Concept Map together.

Note Taking Skills

  • 1. OBJECTIVE: Mini-Lesson: Activator: Wrap up: STUDENT ENGAGEMENT: DEFINE IT. MODEL IT. PARTNER. INDEPENDENT. You will understand how to take general notes and organize them into topics and sub topics. You will be able to defend why information is sorted into main and sub topics. You will analyze abstract content in a nonfiction presentation. Concept Map on Prior Knowledge and Questions Using the concept map, outline prior knowledge vs. questions. Define a Concept Map, Prior Knowledge and how and why to ask 
 questions prior to learning a new idea. Try and answer a question on the concept map together. Ask Yourself: how does this topic relate to and effect your life? Using the Note Taking Skills worksheet, write notes while listening to the video. After the video, sort those notes into main ideas and sub topics in the right column. (25 min). Student Groups present to whole group their notes and are able to explain why they organized their written content into main or sub topics and complete the After You Learn Concept Map together.
