Essay about Biography of Robert Frost
Biography of Robert Frost
Robert Frost is perhaps one of America s best poets of his generation. His vivid images of nature
capture the minds of readers. His poems appear to be simple, but if you look into them there is a
lot of insight. Robert Frost spoke at John F. Kennedy s inauguration. He is the only poet to have had
the opportunity to speak at a presidential inauguration. Through his poetry people learn that Robert
Frost is a complicated and intellectual man who has a place in many American hearts. (Richards
P.10) In order to understand where Robert Frost is coming from in his poetry it is important to
learn about the experiences in his life. Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco.

While he is in England he writes many poems such as, Choose Greatly and Nothing but what we
somehow choose. These poems reflect greatly upon choosing what you want. Perhaps Frost
does not choose to go to England but I m sure he was glad that he goes. (Pritchard P.8) Once
Frost and his family went to England they situate themselves in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
This is the place near where Milton finished Paradise Lost . It is a very nice place where Frost
could concentrate on his poetry. One of Frost s first poems he wrote in England was called In
England. Alone in rain I sat today On top of a gate beside the way, And a bird came near with
muted bill And a watery breeze kept blowing chill From over the hill behind me.
I could not tell what in me stirred To hill and gate and rain and bird, Till lifting hair and bathing
brow The watery breeze came fresher now From over the hill to remind me. This poem never
had a chance to be published during Frost s life. The poem is pretty self explanatory. To me it is
obvious that it is written while he is in England. The mention of rain and watery breezes give it
away because England is surrounded by water. I believe that Frost knew that he could make his
career work in England. The line The watery breeze came fresher now From over the hill to remind
me makes me think that England would give him new inspiration. Everything he did in

Historical Context Of Mice And Men
Historical Context: Of Mice and Men was written and took place in the heat of the Great
Depression. Five years before Steinbeck composed his novella, unemployment ... had reached
24.% (Taylor 2). This explains the economic state of George and the rest of the farm hands,
poverty stricken and jumping from job to job. Major Characters George: George is a small and
quick man from Soledad, California, a modest town south of San Jose and west of Fresno. He
jumps from ranch to ranch, working odd jobs in hopes of one day owning a few acres of his own.
He has taken care of Lennie since he was fairly young; there aren t many guys who travel around
together. He cares for Lennie deeply and is quite devoted, and through everything that Lennie has

His extreme simplicity, in both mind and character, are the focal point of the novella. He was
raised by his Aunt Clara, and once she died, George took care of him. They move from ranch to
ranch as Lennie gets them kicked out. He never means to cause trouble with his immense
strength; Lennie likes to pet soft things and wants to take care of rabbits on a farm he owns with
George. Quote 1 Quote: He s nuts, Slim. He never done this to be mean (Steinbeck 97).
Explanation: Lennie loves George, and lives to please him. He just can t help it when he does
something wrong. He accidently killed his own puppy when playing with it. He kills mice all
the time by petting them too hard. The final straw was when he broke Curley s wife s neck. He
had been stroking her hair overly firmly when she began to scream. He didn t want to get into
trouble with George, so he covered her mouth and nose. She started struggling; he jerked her still,
snapping her neck. Lennie is loving and kind, he just doesn t know his own strength. Quote 2
Quote: He s gonna beat the hell outa you with a stick, that s what he s gonna do. Now Lennie
retorted belligerently, He ain t neither. George won t do nothing like that. I ve known George since

Nationalism In America
Hello, I am Susana Stripling and I am talking about the issues associated with rising neo
nationalistic policies. Some background on the issue, nationalism is the strong belief in the
interests of a particular nation state being of a higher importance than other nation states.
Nationalism is associated with strong patriotic feelings, increases in armaments, a feeling of
superiority over other nations, political independence, as well as the severing of ties and
communications with other nations. Neo nationalism is the re emergence of nationalism except
under different global and transnational conditions. Globalism is the complete opposite of
nationalism. Globalism is when you put the entire world s policies and attitudes and values above
that of your own particular nation. It s working together as a group. Transnational organizations are
groups that are involved in international relations. It s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trump s Make America Great Again ideals have caused severing of ties between other nations,
despite the fact that he is keeping communications and the nation is keeping communications and

Looking at neo nationalism rising globally, some examples of different countries that have neo
nationalistic policies, despite the fact that they may be small or they may be large, just starting
or they may have already been developed, is Japan s Shinzo Abe s Society in Which All 100

The Impact Of Exchange Rate On Exporting And Importing...
Introduction
Exchange rate is regarded as the value of one country s currency in terms of another currency
(Arthur Sheffrin, 2003), which means when one country s currency devalues, its exchange rate
devalues concurrently or vice versa. Hence, the exchange rate uncertainty has a crucial impact on
international commerce (Soleymani Chua, 2014) and on exporting and importing enterprises in
particular. The cost, price and profit of those companies are strongly influenced by the changing
exchange rate. In terms of domestic enterprises, when exchange rate devalues, the import prices
rise which means the cost of their product is getting higher. In terms of foreign enterprises, when
exchange rate appreciates, prices of goods rise which may affect sales of domestic enterprises
(Harmon, 2014).
This essay will briefly analyse the problems of the impact of exchange rate on exporting and
importing enterprises. Then, it will emphasize some solutions to these problems followed by their
evaluations.
Situation
Exchange rate is a crucial factor that affects enterprises doing international commerce. Considering
the globalization and internationalism of the world market, the exchange rate risk is becoming
increasingly significant (Al Qaisi, 2012). In order to illustrate the impact of exchange rate on
international trade, an assumption can be given. Assuming that a British enterprise earns 10 million
USD, if the USD devalues and the exchange rate to GBP decreases from 0.6 to 0.5, then

Evolution Of The Islamic State
Introduction The so called Islamic State, also known as ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) or
ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant), has captivated the world s attention as of late. Its brutal
tactics, vehement opposition to western influenced societal norms, and ultra radical interpretation
of Sharia law have sent scholars, journalists, government officials, and ordinary citizens into a
frenzy trying to comprehend this troubling phenomenon. ISIS is responsible for countless atrocities
to include horrific beheadings, immolation, and chilling video releases of hostages and ominous
threats. It has proven keenly adept at recruiting new members to its cause; these members hail from
many regions around the globe. Led by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The combination of these factors has greatly influenced the coalescence and successes of ISIS thus
far. Furthermore, I agree with Dr. Paul Staniland of the University of Chicago in determining that
ISIS represents what can be considered a vanguard insurgent organization, and has the potential to
coalesce into an integrated one in the future. Finally, ISIS shares several key similarities and
differences with notable Islamic political organizations and insurgent networks of the past few to
include the Palestinian Hamas and the Afghan Taliban. To properly analyze these factors of
development, relevant theoretical framework will be highlighted including insurgent cohesion and
development, alliance formation in civil wars and the factors determining levels of insurgent
violence. Second, a comparative study of the previously mentioned organizations will be utilized to
cross examine ISIS composition and behavior. Similarities and differences in organizational
structure and methodology between the case studies will be correlated. Finally, using existing
theory as well as relevant data from the case studies will lead to determining whether ISIS is truly
unique or merely a facsimile of other radical Islamic political insurgencies progressing through a
certain stage of development. The case studies

three of their design patent. Sparking a national debate about infringement and kick starting the
patent wars. but what exactly is a design patent and why should we care? In this paper, I hope to
inform the reader on what a design patentis, what is the use of a design patent, the requirement of
obtaining a design patent, and a look into the ethical issue surrounding patent assertion entities
before we can talk about what a design patent is, we first must know what a design is. According to
the united states patent and trademark office(U.S. Patent and trademark office. Design patent
application guide.2009.web
), A design consists of the visual ornamental characteristics embodied in, or applied to, an article
of manufacture. A design could relate to the shape and proportion of an article, the surface of an
article or a combination of the two. For instance, a Donald duck telephone would be an example
of a design related to shape and proportion, and a picture of a race car used as a watch face is an
example of a surface design. A patent is a property right to an inventor. patents grant the right to
exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling an invention in the United States or
importing the invention into the United States.
To obtain rights to a design patent, an applicate must meet three requirements. The design patent

A Change Of The Subway By A New York City
The way people react to different environments reflect upon characteristics of their identity.
These surroundings can ignite feelings and emotions, which may urge an individual to react and
reveal traits of his or her personality. In Gladwell s essay, a change in New York City was
ignited when Bernie Goetz was asked for money on the subway by young men, who were later
shot by him. Gladwell s explanation of Goetz s incident detailed how The Tipping Point in this
epidemic, though isn t a particular kind of person...It s something physical like graffiti. The
impetus to engage in a certain kind of behavior is not coming from a certain kind of person but
from a feature of the environment(152). Gladwell claims that Goetz shot the men due to the graffiti
and the environment, rather than the four young men who asked him for money. When Goetz
reacted due to his environment, he was able to portray characteristics of his identity, such how he
felt about his environment and how perhaps his background, may have prompted him to react.
Goetz was a product of his environment because he allowed his environment to control him. While
Goetz allowed his environment to control him, the women in Nafisi s group broke away from their
environment to create a new identity. In the world outside of Nafisi s apartment, the government
acts as a strict behavior which prevents the women from expressing their true selves. When Nafisi s
students come to her apartment, they do not have to adhere to all rules

Analysis Of George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant
Everyone has a moment in their lives that changes the way they think, or identifies our true
views; an event that reveals a part of them that was never known before then. For example, in the
essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell, Orwell himself is working as a British police
officer in Burma in the 1920 s. He does not like his job because of his hate for the oppressive
nature of the British government. However, he does take the job seriously. One day, he gets a
report about an elephant tearing through the town. He quickly gets his gun and rides to the
scene with his horse. Once Orwell arrives, the elephant is long gone, but he sees all the damage
it has caused, even killing a man in its rampage. Orwell asks for a larger gun, only to be used as a
last resort against the elephant, and sets off to find the elephant. Many miles away, in a field, the
elephant stands. However, it seems to have calmed down and is now eating as if nothing happened.
By this point, Orwell has attracted the attention of hundreds of the natives, who have followed him
in anticipation of seeing him kill the elephant. Although Orwell did not want to kill the elephant, he
felt as though he had to, because of the position of power he held over the natives. He shoots the
elephant, but is not content with his decision. Orwell believes that it was his position of power in
the community that forced him into shooting the elephant, to avoid looking like a fool. It was
through this event in his life that

Otto Von Bismarck s Social Insurance Campaign
Otto von Bismarck Otto von Bismarck was from an aristocratic family. He designed a social
insurance program for the old and disabled individuals. Bismarck intended to use the social
insurance program to promote the well being of employees and to maximize the efficiency of
Germany economy. According to the program, the Germany system would contribute disability
benefits and retirement benefits. The contributions were a must and were taken from the
government, the employee, and the employer. These reforms earned Bismarck, the title of a socialist.

The Enron Scandal Of Enron
Public accounting firms have long played a role in convincing the public the authenticity of the
corporates financial statements. However, the public started to become skeptical about accountants
reliability when the Enron scandal occurred. In October 2001, SEC started an investigation against
Enron for improper accounting practice. According Sherron S. Watkins, the former vice president
for corporate development, Enronfailed to disclose complicated deals with its partnerships to inflate
the stock price. In a report by Enron s law firm, Arthur Andersen, the accounting firm that was in
charge of auditingEnron, was involved and failed to report the partnership transactions, which
resulted in the collapse of Enron.

It is no doubt that Arthur Andersen (AA, hereinafter), Enron s auditing firm, have violated many
laws and rules prior to and during the investigation. Thus, our group does not believe there is
anything that could argue for them from an ethical point of view. From the case that we read, it is
clear to everyone that AA s senior level management knew most of the intentional misstatement in
Enron s financials, yet they still issued an audit report that does not include any of the information.
Furthermore, when SEC initiated the investigation over Enron, instead of cooperating with the SEC
and turn in the evidence of fraud, AA s Enron auditors shredded thousands of pages of evidence,
made the entire process much harder for SEC. Both actions are alterations of the general public s
interests, and thus, are unethical.
There are several things that could have helped to prevent the auditing fraud in the accounting
profession, and many of which have already been in effect following the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
Most of these actions are to increase the standard of independence in an auditing process. The main
reason why Arthur Andersen was not disclosing material misstatement in Enron s financial reports
is due to conflict of interests. As we know today, auditing firms are not to be providing consulting
services to remain independent. However, back in the days prior to the fall of

Understanding And Managing Recreational Fisheries Within A...
Fishing is often seen as a recreational escape from work or daily routines, as it also meets the
basic human needs of nutrition. In the report, Illustrating the critical role of human dimensions
research for understanding and managing recreational fisheries within a social ecological system
framework, by Hunt et al., we look more closely at the management of recreational fisheries in
relation to the fishers themselves, and how it may influence the outcomes of the fisheries
ecological systems. In turn we see critical connections between the ecological and social systems,
which give us great feedback on a recreational fisher s actions and how we can better manage those
actions. In the report they focus on the coupling of fisher s behaviors... Show more content on

These give the researchers better information in regards to the connections and feedback between
the natural and human components of the recreational fisheries system management. In terms of
recreational fishing, using human dimensions research provides information about a fisher s
preference, behavior, attitude and wellbeing when it comes to the support of fisheries management.
Taking an in depth study of the fisher s views and opinions on policy and management issues can
better illustrate how fishers make choices for pursuing fishing among sites that may differ greatly
in their regulations and many other attributes. Being able to understand a fisher s evaluations on a
wide scale will better help human dimensions researchers interpret and predict their future
behaviors, which has become an important area of enquiry. Before, human dimensions researchers
studied a small scale of fishers and did not account for diversity; the new studies being conducted
do the exact opposite. L.M. Hunt et al. look at the fisher s evaluations in a much broader aspect. By
taking a deeper study into understanding fishers and what prompts their actions will better allow
human dimension researchers and biologists to make connections between the fishers and fish,
whereas they would otherwise solely focus on the fisheries biology. The

The Evolution Of Human Animals
Humans, formally known as Homo sapiens, are some of the most fascinating creatures to inhabit
this planet. We as human animals possess many traits unique to our species, but one of the most
remarkable traits is our upright posture and inherent inclination to walk on two legs. We share this
rare trait with few organisms, who even so only express limited bipedal behaviors. Humanancestors
first initiated the transition to bipedalismapproximately 6 million years ago through the upright
steps of the Sahelanthropus. However, Homo erectus was the first human ancestor to express full
bipedality, which occurred only 1.9 million years ago. Some of the preceding forms of locomotion
used by human ancestors included quadrupedalism or pronograde posture, suspensory locomotion,
and knuckle walking (Watson, 2008). These forms of motion were used not only by human
ancestors such as the Australopithecus afarensis, but can also be observed in modern times in some
of our close relatives, apes and chimpanzees. This transition to bipedalism was facilitated by
structural changes comprised of an angled thigh bone, a more sturdy and broad pelvis, a wider
patella, an S shaped spine, and long femurs. The compilation of all of these adaptations allowed
hominids to not only support their entire body weight while standing upright, but efficiently take
long strides, therefore allowing them to travel greater distances. Though much is known about the
implications for the transition to bipedality, the

Christmas Lights Negatives
Festive decorations are a huge part of the Holiday season, but they also take a huge toll on
Christmas budgets. In the United States, the average cost Americans will spend is over $465
billion on Christmas gifts, $3.2 billion on wrapping paper, and $6 billion on holiday decorations
such as, lights, trees, lawn decorations, etc. Everyone likes putting up lights at Christmason their
trees, around the house, on the roof, and any other, countless, creative things, and individual might
come up with. Our question, however, is whether a single strain of multi colored Christmas lights,
or a single strain of white Christmas lights can save you money on usage. Christmas lights are an
expense in their own, so is there a notable different the cost of multi colored, and white lights, for
you to consider?
In West Virginia alone, the average cost of electricity is 9.2 cents, per kilowatt hour. In the month of
October, the house used in this experiment ran on average energy consumption throughout the
whole month. The price of the used electricity was $206.71. To determine how much different
Christmas lights added on, we used white and multi colored lights, and measured with the EZ Kill
O Watt to calculate the cost of each set of lights, per month, and added it to the bill.
In this project, we hypothesize that the cost, per month, of the multi colored Christmas lights will
be more than white lights, because multi colored light bulbs are putting off different wattage to let

Everybody know a family member or a friend who has fallen either at home, in the hospital, or in
the street. Falls can cause dangerous side effects to the elderly population and can make them loose
their independence overtime. Falls are commonly defined as inadvertently coming to rest on the
ground, floor or other lower level, excluding intentional change in position to rest in furniture, wall
or other objects (World Health Organization, 2017). Certain falls need an immediate medical
attention and intervention to prevent further complications. Preventing falls and injuriesshould be

The hospital can implement a survey to find out how much the employees know about interventions
and preventions of falls and injury risk and develop a culture that make all staff members feel

giving staff additional falls prevention training, using alarms and monitors, providing patients
with yellow fall alert bands, providing more additional staff in the unit resulted in a huge
improvement in reducing falls total number of falls went from 277 during 2010 2011 period to

This almost conflicts directly to a majority of Larsson s Millennium Trilogy. In The Girl with the
Dragon Tattoo, there are many signs of corruption from Hans Erik Wennerström s illegal
industries to the Vanger corporation covering up Martin and Gottfried s murders. Larsson
continues this motif as well in The Girl Who Played with Fire. It is the corruption of the
Swedish government and the police that allows Zara to rape and abuse Salander s mother,
allows Zara to stay out of prison for his crimes, and forces Salander to a psychiatric ward. It is
the corruption of the guardianship system for psychiatrics that allows Salander to be raped by
Bjurman and to be held hostage by the law. Furthermore, it is the leaders of society, the prominent
social, economic, and political upper crust of Sweden, that are subject to investigation for sex
slavery by Dag and Mia. It would not be unreasonable to state that corruption exists at every level.
Moreover, this corrupted system is truly the creator behind all of Salander s psychiatric problems. If
the Swedish system was free of corruption, as suggested in The Ten Commandments, then one could
argue that Salander s mental and physical health would drastically

raped them. The part where this pregnant lady got caught and got sent back was the most horrifying

the President, or the Executive Branch can be interpreted as the most authoritative arm of
government, its powers are still limited and restricted by the process of checks and balances. Each
branch of government has some governance over the other two divisions. For instance, just as it is
outlined above, the President can nominate Ambassadors and Judges of the Supreme Court but the
decision must be upheld by Congress. In other words, under the Advice and Consent clause the
appointed member must be sworn in by the Senate. Again, this is an example of how the system of

Title
Nathaniel Hawthorne s book The Scarlet Letter is a story of secret and forbidden love as well as
the cause and effect of this forbidden love, the setting is a Puritan colony in Boston, Massachusetts
around 1750. The main character Hester Prynne, a God fearing Puritan living within this
community, gets caught in the act of adultery when she is discovered to be with child whilst
having no husband. During this era, the punishment for adultery forced the adulteress or adulterer
to wear a scarlet letter A upon their bosom. While staying in prison, following the discovery of
her sin, Hester gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, which she named Pearl. Although some may
choose to look upon pearl as a gift from the devil, or as a rotten curse, Pearl grows to become a
reflection of both individual and collective human conscience, a personification of the scarlet letter,
and a symbol of light. Pearl represents a physical form of many character s consciences
throughout the novel. For instance, she is the voice of the collective conscience within her
community when she points the crooked finger at Hester in the forest. Everywhere Hester goes,
Pearl must follow and so she is a constant reminder to Hester that she must wear the scarlet letter
at all times, while on their walk in Chapter 16, Pearl tells her mother that the sunshine does not
(274) love her and it runs away and hides itself (274)because it is afraid of the letter. However,
after Hester has cast off the letter A Pearl refuses to come to her. Pearl often highlights and brings
attention to Hester s scarlet letter by inquiring about its purpose, this shows that while she may
represent the conscience of those around her, she is still a little girl trying to understand the world
around her. Pearl is not only of manifestation of a community conscience but she is most
importantly a physical manifestation of Arthur Dimmesdale s conscience. She sees most clearly his
inner desires and she is attracted to him from the beginning. During their first encounter when Pearl
is still practically a newborn, she reaches for Dimmesdale, and while he notices he does not give any

Gender, Sexual Orientation And Education
In today s society, there are divides that impede the movement of progress. These divides may
disperse around a number of issues that revolve around gender, religion, sexual orientation and
education. These divides have created an un opened minded society that judge people and groups
based on the prejudices and stereotypes that treat them differently. In the aspect of identity
discrimination, American society plays a big role in keeping those that are different isolated from
the rest of the world. Today s society suffers huge from a spectrum that focuses power on

many places that transgendered individuals become a victim to a hate crime because of their sexual

Religion Should Be Taught In Schools
Schools throughout the country are having trouble creating an equal atmosphere in relation to
religion. There have been many issues with regard to children being bullied and/or not permitted to
wear religious items. The First Amendment of the Constitution enables students to practice their
religion, but if the students show their religionthey will not be accepted. Schools should change
their regulations, therefore allowing students to wear religious apparel, take action (pray, etc), and
eat schoolfood without worrying about the food not being a part of their religion. In the real world,
everyone has the freedom of choice to live as they wish.
Before the students get to experience the real world, they spend their childhoods growing up in
and around schools. It would be best if they grew up knowing that their culture/religion will be
accepted. However, at this point in time, many who are displaying their beliefs openly, are getting
in trouble with school authorities. An example of this would be in California, where a seventh
grade student, by the name of Raymond, was suspended for wearing his rosary beads. Raymond

Literature Review On Atherosclerosis
Literature Review Draft
Atherosclerosis is characterised by gradual decrease in the luminal diameter of large arteries, it has
major health implications and contributes to around 50% of all deaths within westernized countries
(7). Patients can undergo coronary artery stenting to prolong the effects of this. Treatments for this
have undergone major developments over the past 40 years, including balloon angioplasty in 1977,
development of bare metal stents (BMS) in the 1980 s, introduction of drug eluting stents (DES) in
2000 (43) and current research into incorporating NO donors into stents. The first stent implantation
performed on a human was conducted in 1986 (13), since then they have become one of the most
common ways of intervention due to atherosclerosis. In the US there are 500,000 people who
undergo stenting annually (42). The success of stenting is inhibited by the reoccurrence of
restenosis. Multiple things can affect the rate of in stent restenosis, elevated LDL levels, increased
levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor I, type 2 diabetes and enhanced platelet aggergability (10).
Therefore the severity of restenosis will differ between patients.
Nobuyoshi et al, (1) and Serruys et al (2) found that restenosis is not an instantaneous development
after stent implantation, it develops between the 1st and 3rd month after implantation, although the
greatest change in luminal diameter occurred between the 2nd and 3rd month. These studies

The Code Of Federal Regulations
Under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 139, the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) is required to issue airport operating certificates to airports that serve
scheduled and unscheduled air carrier aircraft with more than 30 seats or serve scheduled air
carrier operations in aircraft with more than 9 seats but less than 31 seats. To ensure that airports
are meeting the requirements of 14 CFR Part 139, there are approximately 35 FAA Airport
Certification Safety Inspectors that conduct annual and unannounced certification inspections. In
the course of the inspection, inspectors look at the movement areas, aircraft rescue and firefighting
(ARFF), fuel facilities, and lighting. Additionally, the inspectors view the airport files and the
airport certification manual, Airport Master Record (FAA Form 5010), Notices to Airmen
(NOTAM), and airfield self inspection forms.
Self Inspection
The self inspection program is considered to be a key component of an airport operator s airport
certification program and required under 14 CFR Part 139.327. The responsibility of the self
inspection program falls primarily to the airport owner or operator. Even though it is possible for
some hazards to develop suddenly, most hazardous conditions develop over time and are more
gradual. As a result, it is important that the airport has a comprehensive airport safety self
inspection program in order to identify and correct any deteriorating safety conditions. The scope of

What Predictive Modeling Situations Would The Aic...
3 In what predictive modelling situations would the AIC statistic be the most appropriate choice,
and why?
Akaike (1973) adopted the Kullback Leibler definition of information, I(f;g) , as a natural measure
of discrepancy, or asymmetrical distance, between a true model, f(y), and a proposed model,
g(y|ОІ), where ОІ is a vector of parameters. Based on large sample theory, Akaike derived an
estimator for of the I(f;g) general form гЂ–AICгЂ—_m = 2 Ln (L_m ) + 2 гЂ–.kгЂ—_m where
Lm is the sample log likelihood for the mth of M alternative models and km is the number of
independent parameters estimated for the mth model. The term, , may be viewed as a penalty
for over parameterization. A min(AIC) strategy is used for selecting among two or more
competing models. In a general sense, the model for which AICm is smallest represents the best
approximation to the true model. That is, it is the model with the smallest expected loss of
information when MLE s replace true parametric values in the model. In practice, the model
satisfying the min(AIC) criterion may or may not be (and probably is not) the true model since
there is no way of knowing whether the true model is included among those being compared. Thus,
for example, in comparing four hierarchic linear regression models, AIC is computed for each
model and the min(AIC) criterion is applied to select the single best model.
The choices for the selection criterion have several model fit statistics that are useful for model

Rene Descartes Meditation 1 Summary
In Meditation I by Rene Descartes, he began to doubt his senses and the self. At the beginning of
the text, he decided to throw out any and all previous knowledge he once had and began a new
foundation of intellect. I won t over indulge in skepticism, since I am now concerned, not with
acting, but only with knowing. (Descartes 159) Of all the things he had accepted to be true, he
has found true through his senses. I have so far accepted as supremely true I have learned either
from the senses or through the senses. (Descartes 157) Although he stated that sometimes our
senses can deceive us (of objects that are small or far away), he understands that our senses are
reliable. Descartes was in turmoil and doubtful beyond belief from... Show more content on

He believes that the senses can deceive us some cases. Those cases being the objects are quite
small or far away. As we discussed in class, a majority of people have been deceived through
sight or hearing. For example, one of my fellow classmates said they thought they saw a person
standing in a parking garage when in reality; it was just a light pole at a far distance. He claims
that we cannot trust our imaginations. Descartes states an argument using wax to prove how
our senses give proof of the self. Descartes places a piece of wax in his hand and sits next to a
fire and lets the wax slowly melt. He writes how we perceive the wax through our senses as it is a
solid piece, but over time as it melted, it was still the same piece of wax. While everything having
to do with taste, smell, sight, touch and hearing has changed the same piece of wax remains.
(Descartes 161) He came to the conclusion that we know through our judgments and not our
imaginations. The wax cannot be known through his imaginations since the wax can melt into an
infinite number of shapes, instead, he knows the wax off of knowledge and intellect alone. This
means that every interaction we have with material objects gives us a sense of self awareness
through our senses such as sight, sound, taste, smell, and

Reasons For Japanese Americans In Internment
In the morning of December 7th, 1941, a swarm of Japanese warplanes bombed the Pearl Harbor
in a surprise attack. As a result, 2,400 Americans were killed and over a thousand were wounded.
The Japanese destroyed over 200 American aircrafts and suck several battleships while only losing
under a hundred of their men (History.com). Following this attack, President Franklin D. Roosevelt
declared war on Japan, officially entering World War II. Fearing that the Japanese Americans would
turn on America and aid Japan, Roosevelt signed an executive order that forced all Japanese
Americans to evacuate the West Coast. Approximately 120,000 Japanese were relocated to
internment camps. Because of the safety of the country and the Japanese, I believe that the United
Statesgovernment was justified for interning Japanese Americans. First and foremost, placing
Japanese Americans in internment camps prevented them from spying and sabotaging the United
States. Americans feared that there might be Japanese spies among citizens, and their fear was
justifiable. After decoding Japanese cables in May 1941, we discovered that before the war, there
were already Japanese American spies monitoring the traffic across the American Mexican border
(Hawkins). This shows that spies among Japanese Americans were a definite threat to the safety of
America. If Japanese spies were let loose in the country during World War II, the results of the war
could have been significantly different. Furthermore, if

The IRA targeted soldiers and policemen, but while doing so they killed civilians. To keep them
apart, the capital, Belfast transformed into a war zone, and walls were built to prevent the groups
from attacking each other. For many years Belfast was known as the Barricaded city . Protestants
also formed groups, which carried out attacks against Catholics. In the 1970s and 1980s,
approximately 3,000 people were killed, with many more injured. Despite the Protestants majority,
the creation of Northern Ireland did not bring security to them because it was clear that London
was never as committed to the Union as the Protestants were. The Protestant leaders assumed that
the new state could only exist if they had the power therefore they made sure that their power
should be both strong and permanent. As result they changed the voting system and the electoral
boundaries (gerrymandering). Nationalists and Catholics were considered as second class citizens,
and dangerous to the state. They were seen with being less deserving of jobs and houses than their
Protestant neighbors, they were discriminated in the public service, in education as well. The
representatives of Nationalists and Catholics were also banned from political power and influence.
In addition to being discriminated they were also complaining to the government because of the use
of special powers against republicans.

A Brief Note On An Accidental Racial War
An Accidental Racial War.
An accidental fight started at school to where no parties were at fault until a circle was formed
around us showing all the students that I am white and she is black. The school was enjoying a
festival watching a talent show when a girl behind me accidently spilled her nachos on to my head,
this may have started a fight against many students primarily of opposite races and I was to blame.
I went to a public Junior High School in Long beach, CA. This was a very culturally diversified
school; the students had their clicks, as most students would call them. This is typically groups
of people of the same interests: jocks, nerds, rebels, hippies and groups of the same racial
background: African American, Caucasian, Filipino, Korean, Hispanic, or Samoan. The whole
school was treated to a festival with good food, music, games and a talent show showcasing
student performers. Some of the performers played instruments, acted out dramas, or danced.
The festival was outside in the food court area, where we typically have lunch. It was a warm
day and I was sitting by myself in a crowd of students watching the talent show. My legs were
crossed on the floor, however, feeling a bit bored I decided to wrap the straps of my backpack
around my legs tangling them. The talent show was coming to an end and the DJ started to play
some music.
When all of a sudden, the teacher announced on the microphone anyone wants to come up on
stage!? The crowd jumped up and ran

Birthday By Dorothea Tanning Summary
Dorothea Tanning s painting Birthday from 1942 is an oil on canvas self portrait. The painting
s prominent subject is a woman who is standing alone to the left of the canvas. She is dressed
uniquely in a dark brown ruffled skirt that reaches all the way to her calves. On the sides of her
skirt, there is an abundance of vine like roots overflowing from the back towards the front. Her
top is an open, purple, green and white decorative jacket; revealing her bosom, chest and some of
her torso. With her left hand, she is holding onto one of the many doors that are behind her yet
she is looking off in a different direction from these doors. The woman has no shoes on and to the
right of her feet is an animal that looks like a combination of a cat and bat that has big yellow eyes
and large wings. The outfit choice of the woman reflects not only modernity but also antiquity thus,
making the time represent the turn of the century. This combination of modernity and antiquity
reveals something new which attributes to the portraits name, Birthday. Behind the woman and
animal beside her, is a long hallway that seems to be never ending of open doors; showing that the
paintings setting is indoors. The exact location is unidentifiable because there is no furniture to
indicate where she is, which signifies a sense of isolation. Though the look on the woman s face
and the hallway of doors initially give a perception of loneliness and unknowingness, the colors,
composition, and lines create a

Objectives Of Inventory Management And Management
Objectives of Inventory Management including warehouse management
Inventory management is part of the warehouse management and both of them are part of a bigger
entity which is the supply chain. The objective of supply chain is to minimize annual system wide
costs and maximizing the service level. To reach the goal or objective of supply chain, Inventory
and warehouse management have the following objectives that will help increase return on
inventory (ROI) and return on assets (ROA):
1.Maximizing customer service: Customer service refers to the firm s ability to satisfy the needs of
its customers. In Inventory and warehouse management, inaccurate customer demand forecasts,
changes in the original orders of customers, and the lack of management leads to poor customer
service level in terms of long delivery times, delivering the wrong product to customers ... Show

Inventory management: Inventory management is the total control of the inventory and lacking
this fundamental understanding can lead to big overstock, or backorders. Inventory management
includes: I.inventory accuracy: Without an automated warehouse management system, it is hard
to for a firm to be fully aware or accurate of the inventory it has on hand. Poor stock visibility can
cause excess or obsolete inventory which causes a problem if there is a demand and product
shortage which leads to unfulfilling or delaying the order of the customer. Also, excess inventory
leads to the lack of cash flow, wasting warehouse space, higher storage cost and poor customer
service.
II.inventory location: If the people working in the warehouse do not know where inventory is
located, they put the company at risk. Failing to know where the inventory is, can results in
delaying shipments because it will take the workers time to find the items which results in slowing
operations and increasing

Plant Mitochondri Cytochrome Oxidase And The Cyanide...
Plant mitochondria include two terminal oxidases: cytochrome oxidase and the cyanide insensitive
alternative oxidase. Electron partitioning between the two pathways is regulated by the redox
equilibrium of the ubiquinone pool and the activation state of the alternative oxidase. The
alternative oxidase appears to exist as a dimer, which is active in the reduced, noncovalently linked
form, and inactive when in the oxidized, covalently linked form. Reduction of the oxidase in
detached tobacco mitochondria occurs upon oxidation of isocitrate or malate and may be mediated
by matrix NAD(P)H. The energy of the reduced oxidase is influenced by certain other organic
acids, notably pyruvate, which appear to interact directly with the enzyme. Pyruvate alters the
interaction between the alternative oxidase and ubiquinol so that the oxidase becomes active at
much lower levels of ubiquinol and competes with the cytochrome pathway for electrons. These
will be further explored in this piece.
Cyanide resistant respiration was found toward the beginning of the twentieth century as a
singularity in thermogenic plants in the middle of anthesis and was later seen to be a regular
highlight of plant respiration. The think of respiration impenetrable to cyanide is related with the
closeness in the respiratory chain of an supplemental terminal oxidase alternative oxidase (AOX).
The closeness of AOX in higher plant mitochondria propose an intriguing, favorable exchange
regarding its title in vivo

Mongolian Empire Dbq Essay
Was the Depiction of the Mongolian Empire, Being Barbaric, Truly Accurate?
It would be preposterous to say that the Mongolian Empire was irrelevant in history. The
Mongols, led by Genghis Khan, had put a massive imprint on the way the world is today.
However, the rule of the power had created more chaos than harmony. The Mongolians of the
Asian Steppe had a negative impact on the world during their rule of the Asian continent from
1260 to 1368 by slaughtering millions of lives, destroying complete cultures in their way for land
and spreading a deadly disease to the world.
Unsurprisingly, Genghis Khan s empire would conquer land by one of many treacherous methods:
destroying anything in their path. According to Document A, over 4,860,000... Show more content

battles, they would burn the fat of their enemies ( if napalm wasn t present ) and shoot them in
catapults, setting inextinguishable fire to the civilizations. As shown in Document 5, the Mongols
enemies would have their heads buried for punishment. Murdering women and children, as well as
enslaving and decapitating their enemies, the Mongolian Empire had no remorse. Though the
civilization had moral codes and peace in the nation, the Mongols seemed contradicting, due to the

The Psychological Phenomenon Of The Bystander Effect
Paragraph 1 (introduction and thesis) Thesis not included From Wikipedia, the free
encyclopedia This article is about the psychological phenomenon. For the bystander effect in
radiobiology, see Bystander effect (radiobiology). The bystander effect, or bystander apathy, is a
social psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer any
means of help to a victim when other people are present. The probability of help is inversely
related to the number of bystanders. In other words, the greater the number of bystanders, the
less likely it is that any one of them will help. No thesis included...create one for your document.

Steal The Baudelaire The Art Of Creativity
When individuals ask about creativity, typically they have pre conceived notion of what is
creativity. Studies from Business insider claims that school are trying to limit creativity by forcing
classes that are little to no interest to students. Those who ponder the idea about what is truly
creative are individuals who can be reason with. The art of creativityis one s own perspective; what
one accepts as ludicrous other might believe to be brilliant. A ted talk by Sir Ken Robinson s
proven this statement by using a child who fidgets a lot as an example of how most saw her as
ill, but actually she s a talented dancer who later on became a prodigy in ballet. So, if schools took
away her creativity, then she wouldn t have reached her full potential.... Show more content on

Unlike math, science, history, and physical education classes, you can fully examine your
options. The novels, A series of unfortunate event shows how three rich orphans whose parents
were killed by the antagonist due to their money. Count Olaf, the antagonist in this book series
tires tirelessly to steal the Baudelaire children s fortune. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny have studied in
every subject imaginable due to their parents status, but they have never taken a course in
creativity. If they had, life threatening situation like being trapped in a hospital, or trying to
escape from a slumbering wouldn t be as challenging. The Baudelaire children are a prime example
of how endless classes can all be useless if your ability to adapt are adequate. If they even spend a
fraction of their studying time for a creative class, then their lives wouldn t always be in danger
and fending for themselves in reality would be easier. When Count Olaf trapped them inside a
burning hospital, voilet didn t notice and came up with a plan last second that almost costed her
sibling their lives. If they ve been taught that a creative class, violet wouldn t have hesitated and
her sibling would not have to risk their lives while escaping. Additionally, when the Baudelaire
were trying to decipher a code from their friends, about where they are being kept prisoner when
they ve been captured by Count Olaf, if they had taken a class on creativity then the code would of
been a simple to them due to how its just basically a riddle. Unfortunately, due to the fact that they
ve never had any prior knowledge of expanding their mind beyond: memorizing date for a class,
remembering formulas, or learning names, failure is inevitable. When the Baudelaire parents were
alive, like the rest of society that overlook the benefits of a class that truly can teach you more than
simple education. It would expand thinking to

The Importance Of Gross Motor Development
Motor skills involve movement of muscle in the body (John, 2009). These are larger
movements such as crawling, running, and jumping (John, 2009). Most of the gross motor
development occurs during childhood (John, 2009). Gross motor skills have two principals that
determent how a child will regularly develop (Center of diseases Control and Prevention, 2016).
Head to toe development this means the upper parts of the body will develop before the lower
parts of the body (John, 2009). Children develop these skills throughout play (John, 2009). A
tree year old Toddler can be very active therefore participating in activity that require movement,
coordination, and balance can be beneficial to help a toddler to develop their motor skills (Jan,
Beth Melissa, 2012). A 3 year old child can throw a ball but catching it is more difficult. They
start walking with good posture similar to an adult; they can also walk backwards (Jan, Beth
Melissa, 2012). A 3 year old can run which required strength and balance, during running they
should be able to rotate their trunk and swing their arms (John, 2009). By the age of 3 a child
walks up and down stairs alternating their feet without support which is possible because their
balance has increase (John, 2009). A 3 year old child also learns to jump from a step and learn to
jump forward (Center of diseases Control and Prevention, 2016). They start hopping at the age of 3
ВЅ and also can stand on one foot (Center of diseases Control and Prevention, 2016). Skipping
requires sequencing and rhythm which makes it more difficult this include step and hop patterns.
Fine Motor Fine motor skills are the movements made with the small muscle of the hand (Jan,
Beth Melissa, 2012). A 3 year old child gets better in their fine motor skill (Jan, Beth Melissa,
2012). They are able to move their fingers independently and have better spatial awareness;
therefore, these children can engage in more complex tasks such as using a scissor, the first
cutting skills start at the age of 3 (John, 2009). Children of this age should be able to unbutton a
shirt or eat with a fork without assistance (John, 2009). They can also complete and insert puzzle
pieces, picking up small objects with the thumb and

The Difference between American and German Thinking
The way Germans and Americans think is totally opposite. Germans think deductively, and take a
scientific approach. On the other hand Americans tend to think inductively, they first form a goal
and figure out the details later. These styles but head because Germans often think of the American
approach as unrealistic. The negative side to the German thinking is that while are German is
planning an American may beat him to putting an item on the market. The Americans might not be
100 percent error free but they got the product out first. Communication styles are also very
different in the two countries. Americans do not like to disagree with one another. They hardly ever
tend to respond with firm answers and try to beat around the bush and try to politely tell someone
no. Germanslike to debate with each other when they are facing a problem. If a German disagrees
with you they will be sure that it is made know.
A difference between Germany and America is freedom vs. security. Americans believe in having
freedom even at the cost of sacrificing security. Germans on the other hand like to have security.
They like to be able to plan ahead for long periods of time. They find the fact that in the US a
person can be fired from their job for almost no reason at all very distressing. There is also a great
difference in freedom of speech in the two countries. For example in the US racist Nazi
propaganda would be legal where in Germany it is completely illegal. The American view is I

Analyzing Some of Anna Akhmatova s Poetry
Unassuming Exuberance
Anna Akhmatova lived from 1889 to 1966 during a dark, rough time in Russia. Everything is
Plundered, I Am Not One of Those Who Left the Land, and Midnight Verses are prime examples
of Akhmatova s symbolic literature. Akhmatova used poetry to help her overcome difficulties in
life; it was a way of expressing and setting her feelings free. All of Anna Akhmatovas poems
contain a common theme that connects to her real life: though life can be rough, it is important to
deal with problems and work towards acceptance. In Midnight Verses, the theme is dark and
tumultuous. This poem is a perfect reflection of Akhmatova s life. She faced many complications in
life, but she had to accept them because she did not want to give up on her home country. Likewise,
Akhmatova s poem has an unwilling acceptance at the end. Midnight Verses also displays her
thoughts in a very creative way. And the signal bells of light rhymes / Then I begin to understand
/ And the simply dictated lines / Lie down in the snow white notebook (Akhmatova 13 16).
Throughout Midnight Verses, Akhmatova uses powerful imagery, making it easy to relate to her
thoughts. Everything is Plundered is another of Akhmatova s poems that continues to illustrate this
theme. In Everything is Plundered, the theme of confusion and contrast in life is present. The
struggles in life are portrayed throughout the poem. This poem reflects humanity s imperfect

What form of business organization (textbook, pp. 8 9) would you suggest each of the three
friends should use, and why? (12 marks) A corporation business form is suitable for the friend
who wants to start a restaurant. There are some advantages for corporation: first, a corporation
is distinct from its owners. The corporation can own property, borrow, and enter into contracts.
Second, the shareholders have limited liabilities, unlike other business form, they are just liable
for the amount they invested. Third, it s easier to loan money for a corporation than other

The World In 6 Glasses Book Report
The first chapter of A History of the World in 6 Glasses taught me about the significance of beer
in many ancient civilizations. Beer has been around for thousands of years and brought about
drastic changes to ancient societies. The discovery and process of brewing beer is something that I
had no knowledge of until reading this book. Beerwas discovered between the years 10,000 BCE
and 4,00 BCE, after farmers had access to grains and began to store them. After experimenting
with grains, farmers discovered that wet grain becomes intoxicating after being fermented. What
surprised me the most was that the discovery of bread is closely related to the discovery of beer. I
never thought that bread and beer were discovered around the same time, because

  • 2. Essay about Biography of Robert Frost Biography of Robert Frost Robert Frost is perhaps one of America s best poets of his generation. His vivid images of nature capture the minds of readers. His poems appear to be simple, but if you look into them there is a lot of insight. Robert Frost spoke at John F. Kennedy s inauguration. He is the only poet to have had the opportunity to speak at a presidential inauguration. Through his poetry people learn that Robert Frost is a complicated and intellectual man who has a place in many American hearts. (Richards P.10) In order to understand where Robert Frost is coming from in his poetry it is important to learn about the experiences in his life. Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco. His father was from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While he is in England he writes many poems such as, Choose Greatly and Nothing but what we somehow choose. These poems reflect greatly upon choosing what you want. Perhaps Frost does not choose to go to England but I m sure he was glad that he goes. (Pritchard P.8) Once Frost and his family went to England they situate themselves in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. This is the place near where Milton finished Paradise Lost . It is a very nice place where Frost could concentrate on his poetry. One of Frost s first poems he wrote in England was called In England. Alone in rain I sat today On top of a gate beside the way, And a bird came near with muted bill And a watery breeze kept blowing chill From over the hill behind me. I could not tell what in me stirred To hill and gate and rain and bird, Till lifting hair and bathing brow The watery breeze came fresher now From over the hill to remind me. This poem never had a chance to be published during Frost s life. The poem is pretty self explanatory. To me it is obvious that it is written while he is in England. The mention of rain and watery breezes give it away because England is surrounded by water. I believe that Frost knew that he could make his career work in England. The line The watery breeze came fresher now From over the hill to remind me makes me think that England would give him new inspiration. Everything he did in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Five years before Steinbeck composed his novella, unemployment ... had reached 24.% (Taylor 2). This explains the economic state of George and the rest of the farm hands, poverty stricken and jumping from job to job. Major Characters George: George is a small and quick man from Soledad, California, a modest town south of San Jose and west of Fresno. He jumps from ranch to ranch, working odd jobs in hopes of one day owning a few acres of his own. He has taken care of Lennie since he was fairly young; there aren t many guys who travel around together. He cares for Lennie deeply and is quite devoted, and through everything that Lennie has done... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His extreme simplicity, in both mind and character, are the focal point of the novella. He was raised by his Aunt Clara, and once she died, George took care of him. They move from ranch to ranch as Lennie gets them kicked out. He never means to cause trouble with his immense strength; Lennie likes to pet soft things and wants to take care of rabbits on a farm he owns with George. Quote 1 Quote: He s nuts, Slim. He never done this to be mean (Steinbeck 97). Explanation: Lennie loves George, and lives to please him. He just can t help it when he does something wrong. He accidently killed his own puppy when playing with it. He kills mice all the time by petting them too hard. The final straw was when he broke Curley s wife s neck. He had been stroking her hair overly firmly when she began to scream. He didn t want to get into trouble with George, so he covered her mouth and nose. She started struggling; he jerked her still, snapping her neck. Lennie is loving and kind, he just doesn t know his own strength. Quote 2 Quote: He s gonna beat the hell outa you with a stick, that s what he s gonna do. Now Lennie retorted belligerently, He ain t neither. George won t do nothing like that. • 5. Nationalism In America Hello, I am Susana Stripling and I am talking about the issues associated with rising neo nationalistic policies. Some background on the issue, nationalism is the strong belief in the interests of a particular nation state being of a higher importance than other nation states. Nationalism is associated with strong patriotic feelings, increases in armaments, a feeling of superiority over other nations, political independence, as well as the severing of ties and communications with other nations. Neo nationalism is the re emergence of nationalism except under different global and transnational conditions. Globalism is the complete opposite of nationalism. Globalism is when you put the entire world s policies and attitudes and values above that of your own particular nation. It s working together as a group. Transnational organizations are groups that are involved in international relations. It s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The Impact Of Exchange Rate On Exporting And Importing... Introduction Exchange rate is regarded as the value of one country s currency in terms of another currency (Arthur Sheffrin, 2003), which means when one country s currency devalues, its exchange rate devalues concurrently or vice versa. Hence, the exchange rate uncertainty has a crucial impact on international commerce (Soleymani Chua, 2014) and on exporting and importing enterprises in particular. The cost, price and profit of those companies are strongly influenced by the changing exchange rate. In terms of domestic enterprises, when exchange rate devalues, the import prices rise which means the cost of their product is getting higher. In terms of foreign enterprises, when exchange rate appreciates, prices of goods rise which may affect sales of domestic enterprises (Harmon, 2014). This essay will briefly analyse the problems of the impact of exchange rate on exporting and importing enterprises. Then, it will emphasize some solutions to these problems followed by their evaluations. Situation Exchange rate is a crucial factor that affects enterprises doing international commerce. Considering the globalization and internationalism of the world market, the exchange rate risk is becoming increasingly significant (Al Qaisi, 2012). In order to illustrate the impact of exchange rate on international trade, an assumption can be given. Assuming that a British enterprise earns 10 million USD, if the USD devalues and the exchange rate to GBP decreases from 0.6 to 0.5, then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Evolution Of The Islamic State Introduction The so called Islamic State, also known as ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) or ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant), has captivated the world s attention as of late. Its brutal tactics, vehement opposition to western influenced societal norms, and ultra radical interpretation of Sharia law have sent scholars, journalists, government officials, and ordinary citizens into a frenzy trying to comprehend this troubling phenomenon. ISIS is responsible for countless atrocities to include horrific beheadings, immolation, and chilling video releases of hostages and ominous threats. It has proven keenly adept at recruiting new members to its cause; these members hail from many regions around the globe. Led by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The combination of these factors has greatly influenced the coalescence and successes of ISIS thus far. Furthermore, I agree with Dr. Paul Staniland of the University of Chicago in determining that ISIS represents what can be considered a vanguard insurgent organization, and has the potential to coalesce into an integrated one in the future. Finally, ISIS shares several key similarities and differences with notable Islamic political organizations and insurgent networks of the past few to include the Palestinian Hamas and the Afghan Taliban. To properly analyze these factors of development, relevant theoretical framework will be highlighted including insurgent cohesion and development, alliance formation in civil wars and the factors determining levels of insurgent violence. Second, a comparative study of the previously mentioned organizations will be utilized to cross examine ISIS composition and behavior. Similarities and differences in organizational structure and methodology between the case studies will be correlated. Finally, using existing theory as well as relevant data from the case studies will lead to determining whether ISIS is truly unique or merely a facsimile of other radical Islamic political insurgencies progressing through a certain stage of development. Sparking a national debate about infringement and kick starting the patent wars. but what exactly is a design patent and why should we care? In this paper, I hope to inform the reader on what a design patentis, what is the use of a design patent, the requirement of obtaining a design patent, and a look into the ethical issue surrounding patent assertion entities before we can talk about what a design patent is, we first must know what a design is. A design could relate to the shape and proportion of an article, the surface of an article or a combination of the two. • 9. A Change Of The Subway By A New York City The way people react to different environments reflect upon characteristics of their identity. These surroundings can ignite feelings and emotions, which may urge an individual to react and reveal traits of his or her personality. In Gladwell s essay, a change in New York City was ignited when Bernie Goetz was asked for money on the subway by young men, who were later shot by him. Gladwell s explanation of Goetz s incident detailed how The Tipping Point in this epidemic, though isn t a particular kind of person...It s something physical like graffiti. The impetus to engage in a certain kind of behavior is not coming from a certain kind of person but from a feature of the environment(152). Gladwell claims that Goetz shot the men due to the graffiti and the environment, rather than the four young men who asked him for money. When Goetz reacted due to his environment, he was able to portray characteristics of his identity, such how he felt about his environment and how perhaps his background, may have prompted him to react. Goetz was a product of his environment because he allowed his environment to control him. While Goetz allowed his environment to control him, the women in Nafisi s group broke away from their environment to create a new identity. In the world outside of Nafisi s apartment, the government acts as a strict behavior which prevents the women from expressing their true selves. • 10. Analysis Of George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant Everyone has a moment in their lives that changes the way they think, or identifies our true views; an event that reveals a part of them that was never known before then. For example, in the essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell, Orwell himself is working as a British police officer in Burma in the 1920 s. He does not like his job because of his hate for the oppressive nature of the British government. However, he does take the job seriously. One day, he gets a report about an elephant tearing through the town. He quickly gets his gun and rides to the scene with his horse. Once Orwell arrives, the elephant is long gone, but he sees all the damage it has caused, even killing a man in its rampage. Orwell asks for a larger gun, only to be used as a last resort against the elephant, and sets off to find the elephant. Many miles away, in a field, the elephant stands. However, it seems to have calmed down and is now eating as if nothing happened. By this point, Orwell has attracted the attention of hundreds of the natives, who have followed him in anticipation of seeing him kill the elephant. Although Orwell did not want to kill the elephant, he felt as though he had to, because of the position of power he held over the natives. He shoots the elephant, but is not content with his decision. Orwell believes that it was his position of power in the community that forced him into shooting the elephant, to avoid looking like a fool. It was through this event in his life that ... However, the public started to become skeptical about accountants reliability when the Enron scandal occurred. In October 2001, SEC started an investigation against Enron for improper accounting practice. According Sherron S. Watkins, the former vice president for corporate development, Enronfailed to disclose complicated deals with its partnerships to inflate the stock price. Many believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is no doubt that Arthur Andersen (AA, hereinafter), Enron s auditing firm, have violated many laws and rules prior to and during the investigation. Thus, our group does not believe there is anything that could argue for them from an ethical point of view. From the case that we read, it is clear to everyone that AA s senior level management knew most of the intentional misstatement in Enron s financials, yet they still issued an audit report that does not include any of the information. Furthermore, when SEC initiated the investigation over Enron, instead of cooperating with the SEC and turn in the evidence of fraud, AA s Enron auditors shredded thousands of pages of evidence, made the entire process much harder for SEC. Both actions are alterations of the general public s interests, and thus, are unethical. There are several things that could have helped to prevent the auditing fraud in the accounting profession, and many of which have already been in effect following the Sarbanes Oxley Act. In the report, Illustrating the critical role of human dimensions research for understanding and managing recreational fisheries within a social ecological system framework, by Hunt et al., we look more closely at the management of recreational fisheries in relation to the fishers themselves, and how it may influence the outcomes of the fisheries ecological systems. In terms of recreational fishing, using human dimensions research provides information about a fisher s preference, behavior, attitude and wellbeing when it comes to the support of fisheries management. Taking an in depth study of the fisher s views and opinions on policy and management issues can better illustrate how fishers make choices for pursuing fishing among sites that may differ greatly in their regulations and many other attributes. Being able to understand a fisher s evaluations on a wide scale will better help human dimensions researchers interpret and predict their future behaviors, which has become an important area of enquiry. Before, human dimensions researchers studied a small scale of fishers and did not account for diversity; the new studies being conducted do the exact opposite. L.M. Hunt et al. look at the fisher s evaluations in a much broader aspect. By taking a deeper study into understanding fishers and what prompts their actions will better allow human dimension researchers and biologists to make connections between the fishers and fish, whereas they would otherwise solely focus on the fisheries biology. • 15. The Evolution Of Human Animals Humans, formally known as Homo sapiens, are some of the most fascinating creatures to inhabit this planet. We as human animals possess many traits unique to our species, but one of the most remarkable traits is our upright posture and inherent inclination to walk on two legs. We share this rare trait with few organisms, who even so only express limited bipedal behaviors. Humanancestors first initiated the transition to bipedalismapproximately 6 million years ago through the upright steps of the Sahelanthropus. However, Homo erectus was the first human ancestor to express full bipedality, which occurred only 1.9 million years ago. Some of the preceding forms of locomotion used by human ancestors included quadrupedalism or pronograde posture, suspensory locomotion, and knuckle walking (Watson, 2008). These forms of motion were used not only by human ancestors such as the Australopithecus afarensis, but can also be observed in modern times in some of our close relatives, apes and chimpanzees. This transition to bipedalism was facilitated by structural changes comprised of an angled thigh bone, a more sturdy and broad pelvis, a wider patella, an S shaped spine, and long femurs. The compilation of all of these adaptations allowed hominids to not only support their entire body weight while standing upright, but efficiently take long strides, therefore allowing them to travel greater distances. Though much is known about the implications for the transition to bipedality, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the United States, the average cost Americans will spend is over $465 billion on Christmas gifts, $3.2 billion on wrapping paper, and $6 billion on holiday decorations such as, lights, trees, lawn decorations, etc. Everyone likes putting up lights at Christmason their trees, around the house, on the roof, and any other, countless, creative things, and individual might come up with. Our question, however, is whether a single strain of multi colored Christmas lights, or a single strain of white Christmas lights can save you money on usage. Christmas lights are an expense in their own, so is there a notable different the cost of multi colored, and white lights, for you to consider? In West Virginia alone, the average cost of electricity is 9.2 cents, per kilowatt hour. In the month of October, the house used in this experiment ran on average energy consumption throughout the whole month. The price of the used electricity was $206.71. To determine how much different Christmas lights added on, we used white and multi colored lights, and measured with the EZ Kill O Watt to calculate the cost of each set of lights, per month, and added it to the bill. In this project, we hypothesize that the cost, per month, of the multi colored Christmas lights will be more than white lights, because multi colored light bulbs are putting off different wattage to let off the ... Jordan Hendrickson Mr. Foster AP English 11 2nd period December 15, 2017 Title Nathaniel Hawthorne s book The Scarlet Letter is a story of secret and forbidden love as well as the cause and effect of this forbidden love, the setting is a Puritan colony in Boston, Massachusetts around 1750. The main character Hester Prynne, a God fearing Puritan living within this community, gets caught in the act of adultery when she is discovered to be with child whilst having no husband. During this era, the punishment for adultery forced the adulteress or adulterer to wear a scarlet letter A upon their bosom. While staying in prison, following the discovery of her sin, Hester gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, which she named Pearl. Although some may choose to look upon pearl as a gift from the devil, or as a rotten curse, Pearl grows to become a reflection of both individual and collective human conscience, a personification of the scarlet letter, and a symbol of light. Pearl represents a physical form of many character s consciences throughout the novel. For instance, she is the voice of the collective conscience within her community when she points the crooked finger at Hester in the forest. Everywhere Hester goes, Pearl must follow and so she is a constant reminder to Hester that she must wear the scarlet letter at all times, while on their walk in Chapter 16, Pearl tells her mother that the sunshine does not (274) love her and it runs away and hides itself (274)because it is afraid of the letter. However, after Hester has cast off the letter A Pearl refuses to come to her. Pearl often highlights and brings attention to Hester s scarlet letter by inquiring about its purpose, this shows that while she may represent the conscience of those around her, she is still a little girl trying to understand the world around her. Pearl is not only of manifestation of a community conscience but she is most importantly a physical manifestation of Arthur Dimmesdale s conscience. She sees most clearly his inner desires and she is attracted to him from the beginning. Patients can undergo coronary artery stenting to prolong the effects of this. Treatments for this have undergone major developments over the past 40 years, including balloon angioplasty in 1977, development of bare metal stents (BMS) in the 1980 s, introduction of drug eluting stents (DES) in 2000 (43) and current research into incorporating NO donors into stents. The first stent implantation performed on a human was conducted in 1986 (13), since then they have become one of the most common ways of intervention due to atherosclerosis. In the US there are 500,000 people who undergo stenting annually (42). The success of stenting is inhibited by the reoccurrence of restenosis. Multiple things can affect the rate of in stent restenosis, elevated LDL levels, increased levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor I, type 2 diabetes and enhanced platelet aggergability (10). Therefore the severity of restenosis will differ between patients. Nobuyoshi et al, (1) and Serruys et al (2) found that restenosis is not an instantaneous development after stent implantation, it develops between the 1st and 3rd month after implantation, although the greatest change in luminal diameter occurred between the 2nd and 3rd month. Akaike (1973) adopted the Kullback Leibler definition of information, I(f;g) , as a natural measure of discrepancy, or asymmetrical distance, between a true model, f(y), and a proposed model, g(y|ОІ), where ОІ is a vector of parameters. Based on large sample theory, Akaike derived an estimator for of the I(f;g) general form гЂ–AICгЂ—_m = 2 Ln (L_m ) + 2 гЂ–.kгЂ—_m where Lm is the sample log likelihood for the mth of M alternative models and km is the number of independent parameters estimated for the mth model. The term, , may be viewed as a penalty for over parameterization. A min(AIC) strategy is used for selecting among two or more competing models. In a general sense, the model for which AICm is smallest represents the best approximation to the true model. That is, it is the model with the smallest expected loss of information when MLE s replace true parametric values in the model. In practice, the model satisfying the min(AIC) criterion may or may not be (and probably is not) the true model since there is no way of knowing whether the true model is included among those being compared. Thus, for example, in comparing four hierarchic linear regression models, AIC is computed for each model and the min(AIC) criterion is applied to select the single best model. At the beginning of the text, he decided to throw out any and all previous knowledge he once had and began a new foundation of intellect. (Descartes 159) Of all the things he had accepted to be true, he has found true through his senses. I have so far accepted as supremely true I have learned either from the senses or through the senses. For example, one of my fellow classmates said they thought they saw a person standing in a parking garage when in reality; it was just a light pole at a far distance. He claims that we cannot trust our imaginations. Descartes states an argument using wax to prove how our senses give proof of the self. Descartes places a piece of wax in his hand and sits next to a fire and lets the wax slowly melt. He writes how we perceive the wax through our senses as it is a solid piece, but over time as it melted, it was still the same piece of wax. While everything having to do with taste, smell, sight, touch and hearing has changed the same piece of wax remains. (Descartes 161) He came to the conclusion that we know through our judgments and not our imaginations. The wax cannot be known through his imaginations since the wax can melt into an infinite number of shapes, instead, he knows the wax off of knowledge and intellect alone. This means that every interaction we have with material objects gives us a sense of self awareness through our senses such as sight, sound, taste, smell, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a result, 2,400 Americans were killed and over a thousand were wounded. The Japanese destroyed over 200 American aircrafts and suck several battleships while only losing under a hundred of their men (History.com). Following this attack, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan, officially entering World War II. Fearing that the Japanese Americans would turn on America and aid Japan, Roosevelt signed an executive order that forced all Japanese Americans to evacuate the West Coast. Approximately 120,000 Japanese were relocated to internment camps. Because of the safety of the country and the Japanese, I believe that the United Statesgovernment was justified for interning Japanese Americans. First and foremost, placing Japanese Americans in internment camps prevented them from spying and sabotaging the United States. Americans feared that there might be Japanese spies among citizens, and their fear was justifiable. After decoding Japanese cables in May 1941, we discovered that before the war, there were already Japanese American spies monitoring the traffic across the American Mexican border (Hawkins). This shows that spies among Japanese Americans were a definite threat to the safety of America. If Japanese spies were let loose in the country during World War II, the results of the war could have been significantly different. Furthermore, if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Birthday By Dorothea Tanning Summary Dorothea Tanning s painting Birthday from 1942 is an oil on canvas self portrait. The painting s prominent subject is a woman who is standing alone to the left of the canvas. She is dressed uniquely in a dark brown ruffled skirt that reaches all the way to her calves. On the sides of her skirt, there is an abundance of vine like roots overflowing from the back towards the front. Her top is an open, purple, green and white decorative jacket; revealing her bosom, chest and some of her torso. With her left hand, she is holding onto one of the many doors that are behind her yet she is looking off in a different direction from these doors. The woman has no shoes on and to the right of her feet is an animal that looks like a combination of a cat and bat that has big yellow eyes and large wings. The outfit choice of the woman reflects not only modernity but also antiquity thus, making the time represent the turn of the century. This combination of modernity and antiquity reveals something new which attributes to the portraits name, Birthday. Behind the woman and animal beside her, is a long hallway that seems to be never ending of open doors; showing that the paintings setting is indoors. The exact location is unidentifiable because there is no furniture to indicate where she is, which signifies a sense of isolation. • 46. Plant Mitochondri Cytochrome Oxidase And The Cyanide... Plant mitochondria include two terminal oxidases: cytochrome oxidase and the cyanide insensitive alternative oxidase. Electron partitioning between the two pathways is regulated by the redox equilibrium of the ubiquinone pool and the activation state of the alternative oxidase. The alternative oxidase appears to exist as a dimer, which is active in the reduced, noncovalently linked form, and inactive when in the oxidized, covalently linked form. Reduction of the oxidase in detached tobacco mitochondria occurs upon oxidation of isocitrate or malate and may be mediated by matrix NAD(P)H. The energy of the reduced oxidase is influenced by certain other organic acids, notably pyruvate, which appear to interact directly with the enzyme. Pyruvate alters the interaction between the alternative oxidase and ubiquinol so that the oxidase becomes active at much lower levels of ubiquinol and competes with the cytochrome pathway for electrons. These will be further explored in this piece. Cyanide resistant respiration was found toward the beginning of the twentieth century as a singularity in thermogenic plants in the middle of anthesis and was later seen to be a regular highlight of plant respiration. The think of respiration impenetrable to cyanide is related with the closeness in the respiratory chain of an supplemental terminal oxidase alternative oxidase (AOX). Gross motor skills have two principals that determent how a child will regularly develop (Center of diseases Control and Prevention, 2016).
