DEFINITION OF
NONBOOK MATERIAL

 Many times, nonbook items are shelved separately
from the book items. In this case, the nonbook items
may or may not be given classification numbers as
part of their call numbers.
 A video may have a call number of VIDEO 1364
indicating that it was the 1364th video to be added to
the library collection


represent the whole or part of the earth or any
celestial bodies.

 The original text of
an author’s work,
handwritten or
usually typed, that
is submitted to the
publisher.
 Examples are:

Sound recordings include music
and spoken words. Music
recordings include, but are not
limited to, classical, popular,
jazz, and folk. Spoken word

lessons, and language study.
Examples: cassette tape,
phonodisc, CD, MP3

 Motion picture, also called film or movie, series of
still photographs on film, projected in rapid
succession onto a screen by means of light. Because
of the optical phenomenon known as persistence of
vision, this gives the illusion of actual, smooth, and
continuous movement.

Graphic materials are defined as

 Microforms are any forms,
either films or paper, containing
micro reproductions of
documents for transmission,
storage, reading, and
printing. Microform images are
commonly reduced to about one
twenty-fifth of the original
document size.
 Examples: microfiche,
microfilm


A continuing resource is a publication in any
physical or electronic format that is intended to be
issued with no set ending, and generally carries
numbering, dates or both. Serials and
integrating resources are types of continuing
resources.
Examples: journal, magazine, newsletter,
annual report
10. Continuing resources

 Serials are periodical publications which are issued
in successive parts and are intended to be continued
indefinitely. Series are either published at irregular
or regular intervals. Series usually bear volume,
number and year.
 Eg. Daily newspapers, journals, magazines, annuals,
etc.
 It is more current than books and useful for research.
Types

 Integrating resources are contributions in which
new material is incorporated with new material,
such as loose-leaf services and websites
 Common for law materials

 Multimedia is content that uses combination of
different content forms such as text, audio, images,
animation, video and interactive content.
Multimedia contrasts with media that use only
rudimentary computer displays such as text-only or
traditional forms of printed or hand-produced
material.
