This document summarizes digital media and internet usage statistics in Nigeria in 2014-2015. It finds that mobile internet access exceeds desktop access, with over 140 million active mobile (GSM) lines and over 8.9 million daily active Facebook users in Nigeria. Popular internet activities on mobile are social networking and messaging. Nokia is the top brand for mobile handsets used to access the internet. MTN, Guaridan, and Nigerian News Desk have among the most social media followers on Facebook and Twitter. Time spent on mobile media is increasing, with social apps and games being most popular.
The document discusses internet usage statistics in Nigeria from 2000 to 2010. It notes that internet usage grew from 200,000 users in 2000 to over 10 million users in 2008 and nearly 44 million users in 2010. It also mentions that internet access is now primarily through mobile phones due to a lack of data on access by device. Some key websites accessed in Nigeria are also listed.
Nigeria has experienced rapid growth in internet usage over the past two decades, rising from under 200,000 users in 2000 to over 55 million subscribers currently. Mobile penetration through smartphones has been a key driver of this growth, with 47% of phones in Nigeria now internet-enabled. Most Nigerian internet users are young, between ages 19-35, and social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are highly popular engagement activities. Top celebrities have large social media followings that exceed over 1 million users on sites like Twitter.

The latest data for internet, social media, and mobile use around the world in Q3 2017. For other reports in We Are Social & Hootsuite's ongoing Global Digital series, see https://www.slideshare.net/wearesocialsg/presentations
India has the second highest number of internet users and mobile internet users in the world, with 372.5 million and 287.7 million respectively. Internet users in India skew heavily towards males currently. Urban young Indian internet users spend about 2.2 hours online daily on mobile devices. Facebook dominates the social media landscape in India with over 149 million users in 2016. However, India's digital ad spending and retail e-commerce sales are still much lower than countries like China, the US, and others, but are growing rapidly.
This document discusses 7 predictions about the future of media:
1. Digital media consumption will continue to grow significantly and surpass traditional media consumption. Younger generations already consume most of their media digitally on mobile devices.
2. Subscription models will continue to be a major revenue driver for digital media companies, as consumers are increasingly willing to pay for digital content and services.
3. Native digital advertising that fits the format and consumption patterns of different digital platforms will thrive. Major tech companies already generate tens of billions annually from digital advertising.
4. The issue of ad blocking will eventually resolve as publishers, platforms, and advertisers improve ad experiences and consumers choose between free content with ads or paid subscriptions without ads.
The social media landscape is evolving quickly too; Facebook still dominates - and continues to grow - but the remaining spots in the top 5 of our latest platform rankings are held by mobile messenger services.....

The document is a mock newspaper called The Poetic Times that promotes events from the Singapore Arts Festival. One article discusses an elderly man's claim that he had lunch with Elvis Presley during an out-of-body experience. Another article profiles an interview with Vonda Voman, who is portrayed as misunderstanding some questions and references due to a language barrier. A third article promotes a performance by an elderly chorus singing rock music to dispel the myth that fun is only for the young.
Sportsmanship involves abiding by rules, avoiding arguments, cheering for all teams, accepting outcomes, and respecting others. It also means helping others regardless of team and demonstrating good character by showing others the right things to do such as celebrating wins or losses and choosing to help others over choosing wrongly.
The document provides an analysis of the top Nigerian brands on Facebook and Twitter in January 2012. It examines the top 10 overall brands, as well as the top brands in specific categories like banks, publications, radio stations, consumer brands, music artists, and public office holders. MTN maintained the top spot overall on both platforms, while brands like GT Bank, Beat FM, Vanguard, and Don Jazzy also performed strongly across categories. The analysis suggests some brands have figured out how to effectively use social media, while others still have room for improvement in leveraging these platforms.
The document discusses the debate around austerity policies sparked by challenges to a study by Rogoff and Reinhart linking high debt to lower growth. While no single study determines policy, the author argues austerity has failed to solve economic issues in Europe and the US. Ideas become powerful when part of political discourse, with bad ideas having consequences. Politicians follow defunct economists' ideas, so the economy should not be left to economists alone but must consider how ideas and power intersect in society. Continued austerity risks social and political instability as citizens suffer lost living standards and unemployment.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere, promising self-driving cars, medical breakthroughs, and new ways of working. But how do you separate hype from reality? How can your company apply AI to solve real business problems?
Here’s what AI learnings your business should keep in mind for 2017.
Study: The Future of VR, AR and Self-Driving CarsLinkedIn
We asked LinkedIn members worldwide about their levels of interest in the latest wave of technology: whether they’re using wearables, and whether they intend to buy self-driving cars and VR headsets as they become available. We asked them too about their attitudes to technology and to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the devices that they use. The answers were fascinating – and in many cases, surprising.
This SlideShare explores the full results of this study, including detailed market-by-market breakdowns of intention levels for each technology – and how attitudes change with age, location and seniority level. If you’re marketing a tech brand – or planning to use VR and wearables to reach a professional audience – then these are insights you won’t want to miss.
Digital media space in nigeria may 2014dapo ladipo
Nigeria has a large and growing digital media space, with over 167 million mobile connections as of 2014 and mobile internet access dominating over desktop. Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are widely used, with the top brands on Facebook including Guinness and GT Bank and the top Twitter accounts being media outlets. Mobile phones are the primary device for internet access, with basic Nokia phones being most common.
Mobile content discovery and monetization faces challenges. Lessons from games show most mobile users prefer sophisticated plots beyond casual games. Distribution is crucial, using paid, owned, and earned media. Monetization models include try-and-buy, virtual goods, ads, and upgrades. Device fragmentation remains an issue as Nokia, Samsung and Apple dominate but internet-enabled phones under $40 could expand access. Sustainable monetization requires understanding user preferences and having content on all mobile platforms.

This document discusses the growing mobile industry in Indonesia. It notes that Indonesia has seen huge growth in mobile and wireless subscribers and now ranks highly in mobile internet usage globally, showing opportunities exist. However, over 90% of revenue still comes from voice and SMS. The document argues this situation presents opportunities to develop mobile media and internet services targeted at social networking, commerce, applications and rural users. It suggests collaborating across industries can help capture these opportunities and that Indonesia is innovative and open to developers.
1. Mobile data consumption is growing exponentially and doubling every year, far exceeding original projections. Video content like YouTube is a major driver of this growth.
2. Wireless operators must plan their network access strategies to accommodate this rapid growth. Early strategies include utilizing 4G networks, WiFi offloading, and optimizing networks through congestion management and smart planning.
3. WiMAX was developed to support high-speed wireless data and address this growth. It has evolved through multiple releases to improve throughput, capacity, and support new frequencies and channel bandwidths up to 100 MHz.

Understanding Digital Marketing and its implications in Latin AmericaJose Luis Lopez Mota
Digital marketing is growing rapidly in Latin America. Social networking has eclipsed portals as the most engaging online activity, with Facebook being the dominant social network. Entertainment sites like YouTube are also very popular. While internet and mobile penetration is increasing, there remain significant differences between countries due to factors like infrastructure, economics, and education. To be successful with digital marketing in Latin America, strategies must be hybrid, localized to each country, engage audiences authentically, and adapt continuously to a dynamic environment. Understanding local nuances is essential.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
