The Training and Placement Cell at Periyar E.V.R. College in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu organized a one-day basic training program on Human Rights sponsored by the National Human Rights Commission in collaboration with the District Legal Service Authority. Over 147 students from various departments participated in the program and listened to lectures from guest speakers on topics like the introduction to human rights, issues of human rights from judicial perspectives, rights of vulnerable groups such as women and children, and the role of human rights institutions in India. The participants actively engaged in discussions and received course materials, training files, and certificates at the end of the successful program.

International Human Rights Law
International human rights law lays down the obligations of Governments to act in certain ways or to refrain from certain acts, in order to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals or groups.
One of the great achievements of the United Nations is the creation of a comprehensive body of human rights law—a universal and internationally protected code to which all nations can subscribe and all people aspire. The United Nations has defined a broad range of internationally accepted rights, including civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights. It has also established mechanisms to promote and protect these rights and to assist states in carrying out their responsibilities.
The foundations of this body of law are the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the General Assembly in 1945 and 1948, respectively. Since then, the United Nations has gradually expanded human rights law to encompass specific standards for women, children, persons with disabilities, minorities and other vulnerable groups, who now possess rights that protect them from discrimination that had long been common in many societies.

1) A four-member team from UPES' College of Legal Studies won three awards at the North India round of the Surana & Surana National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition held in Bhopal, competing against 16 other teams.
2) The UPES team won the runner-up position and was selected for the top three memorial awards. They also received the Surana Spirit Award for being the most popular team.
3) The competition focused on contemporary criminal law issues like murder, forgery, and cybercrimes. Former Chief Justice P.P. Naolekar and former High Court judge N.K. Jain attended and praised such competitions for encouraging law students and improving
About us 11 - 2013-14
ECHO-Spandana, a branch of ECHO-Center for Juvenile Justice in Mysore, provides services to children in conflict with the law and those in need of care and protection. Staff from ECHO-Spandana visit the local observation home and children's homes to counsel children, attempt to contact their families, and maintain regular contact to help families cope with societal and police problems. For children unable to return to their families, ECHO-Spandana provides shelter to those under 15 and sends older children to ECHO's transition home in Bangalore. Regular cultural programs and prizes are provided to help the children forget their ordeals.

International human rights law lays down the obligations of Governments to act in certain ways or to refrain from certain acts, in order to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals or groups.
One of the great achievements of the United Nations is the creation of a comprehensive body of human rights law—a universal and internationally protected code to which all nations can subscribe and all people aspire. The United Nations has defined a broad range of internationally accepted rights, including civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights. It has also established mechanisms to promote and protect these rights and to assist states in carrying out their responsibilities.
The foundations of this body of law are the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the General Assembly in 1945 and 1948, respectively. Since then, the United Nations has gradually expanded human rights law to encompass specific standards for women, children, persons with disabilities, minorities and other vulnerable groups, who now possess rights that protect them from discrimination that had long been common in many societies.

the last 50 years of feminist activism in India has managed to challenge the 5,000 years of patriarchal order. the main achievements were the deconstruction of violence against women, questioning of male domination within the family, kinship, religion, media and the State, in addition to a series of legal reforms. understanding of privilege to reshape the world has been the distinct contribution of the feminist movement along with the focus on the marginalised.
the feminist space in India is distinctive and builds upon a diversity of women’s groups, political party networks, feminist and HIV/AIDS-related nGos, nonfunded feminist and queer groups and individuals, democratic rights groups, eco-feminists, non-feminists, research institutes and universities. Despite the broad experience, this space remains rather disunited.
Currently, there is a backlash to feminism, as major insights of women’s activism did not succeed in altering the fixed notions of gender roles and traditions. on the contrary, some of these have enjoyed a revival with marketisation and cultural traditionalism. there is a disconnect between theory and practice: study groups and human rights activists seem to work in silos, unlike in the 1970s when there was greater dialogue between the women’s movement and women’s studies.
the gendering of citizenship requires us to question and challenge the fact that citizenship, a supposedly public identity, is produced and mediated by the supposedly private heterosexual patriarchal family. the ‘personal’ has become ‘political’ as it is completely submerged in power relations. Like any other structure of power, patriarchy too has an outside, which is what makes possible the different kinds of protests that constantly undermine it.
Feminism today is the constant questioning of the world we perceive and the boundaries we encounter. the more we understand, the more we are able to build a narrative for change. there are innumerable new energies arising from different positions transforming the feminist field: new contestations of patriarchy, and new contestations of the normative feminism itself. It will be the interplay of fields that might change the system altogether.

COLLEGE (Autonomous and Reaccredited) TIRUCHIRAPPALLI – 620 023 DETAILED PROGRAMME REPORT TRAINING PROGRAMME ON HUMAN RIGHTS Training and Placement Cell, Periyar E.V.R. College, Tiruchirappalli organised a National Human Rights Commission sponsored one day basic training programme on Human Rights was held on 31.08.2016 in association with District Legal Service Authority, Tiruchirappalli. Dr.C.PARAMASIVAN, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Commerce and Coordinator, Training and Placement Cell, welcomes the principal, chief guest, resource persons, staff members and participants. He highlights the importance of the training programme, programme structure, and support of the National Human Rights Commission for their continuous assistance to organise the programme. More than 20 staff members from various departments were participated in the inaugural function. Dr.J.MANJULA, Ph.D. Principal, Periyar E.V.R. College, Tiruchirappalli, presided over the presidential address in the inaugural function of the training programme. She advised the students to utilize these kind of programmes which will helps to protect our Human Rights in future. She highlights the Training and Placement Cell and National Human Rights Commission jointly organinsing this programme in the college for fourth year continuously. She instructed the students to utilize these kind of training programmes to enrich the knowledge on human rights and the present issues around the world. Chief guest Dr.N.MURUGESWARI, Ph.D, Professor, Department of Women Studies, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli spoke on Introduction about Human Rights with respects to legal and constitutional aspects. She mentioned bundle of examples from ancient history, religion stories and contemporary issues. She made live examples of human rights issues in day to day practices and highlights the role students’ communities to protect the human rights.

Mr.S.MURUGESAN, Assistant Professor, Government Law College, Tiruchirappalli, spokes on Issues of Human Rights, with the examples of judicial perspectives, he interacts with the students to addressing various issues of Human Rights. He addressed the constitutional setup of the human rights institutions in India, particularly he explained about the role and functions of National human rights commission, state Human rights commission, national legal service authority state legal service authority and district legal service authority Mr.P.JOHN BRITO, B.Sc., B.L., Advocate, Tiruchirappalli, spokes on Rights of vulnerable groups. In his speech, he pointed out the various issues and cases regarding vulnerable groups such as dalits, women, transgender, marginalised people and minorities. He cited some of the popular issues and judgments regarding vulnerable groups in India as well as in Tamil Nadu. Students were interacted and raised many questions about the human rights issues and institutional assistance. Mrs.HASINA BEGAM, B.A., B.L. Advocate, Tiruchirappalli delivered a lecture on Rights of Women and Children. She mentioned about the current status of women and children in the society, how they were treated in the earlier periods particularly in literature, administration, and family. She also addressed the participants to remove the gender inequalities from the society by the way of creating awareness. She also motivated to participants and interacts the students in and around the districts. Dr.C.PARAMASIVAN, Coordinator, Training and Placement Cell, Organized this programme. More than 147 students from various departments took part of this programme and participated actively. Mr. SIVAJI MANI, II M.Sc Mathematics gave a note of thanks on the occasion, he thanks to National Human Rights Commission, District Legal Service Authority, Periyar E.V.R. college, Training and Placement cell and all the participants more than 147 students from various department such as physics, chemistry, Statistics, Botany, Zoology, Geography, Commerce, History, Tamil, English were participated.
