This document provides an overview of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, including its history, standards, data exchange formats, and implementation in Android devices. NFC was invented in 2002 by Sony and NXP and allows for short-range wireless communication between devices within 10 centimeters of each other at data transfer speeds of up to 414 kbps. The NFC Forum was established in 2004 and now has over 160 member companies that collaborate on standards and decisions.
