This document outlines next steps for supporting Japanese script in web technologies. It recommends continuing work at the W3C on guidelines, tests, and indexes for vertical text, ruby markup and styling, internationalization, and typography. It also suggests re-establishing the Japanese script requirements task force to maintain documentation and prioritize gaps, and building a Japanese community to review standards, produce a roadmap, and demonstrate needs to implementers. • Support the detailed work at W3C (guidelines,
tests, indexes). It makes a difference.
• Monitor and support work on other script
requirements, eg. Chinese, Korean.
• Re-constitute the JLREQ task force, to maintain the
document.
• Constitute a Japanese community that can:
• review emerging standards.
• prioritise gaps at a lower level of granularity
and produce a roadmap.
• demonstrate their pain to implementers.
