Hollywood Studio System Essay
What was the role of the Hollywood Studio System in creating and promoting stars?
The Studio System A model of industrial organisation in the film industry from about 1915 1946,
characterised by the development of major and minor studios that produced, distributed and
exhibited films and held film actors, directors, art directors and other directors under contract (1
Page 456 7)
The Golden Age was certainly golden for the biggest film studios in Hollywood, these studios
include Paramount (1916), Warner Bros (1919), RKO (1928), Fox (1915) and M.G.M (1924), or
as they were best known, The Big Five . It was these five studios that created the Studio System, a
system that gave all five total control over the movies that they made, ... Show more content on

According to Douglas Gomery in The Hollywood Studio System , he describes the end of the
Studio System through three outside shocks. They were, The decrease in demand caused by the
decline in incomes during the Great Depression, 1938 s court case against the Big Five and the
Second World War (5 Page 22) However, the main issue on why the Studio System fell apart was
the fact that the Big Five were sued for use of Blind Bidding when selling their films to theatres.
In short of what they say on www.cybercollege.com, in 1938, the U.S Supreme Court had decided
that these studios represented a monopoly and ordered for the case to be opened. Two years after
the case was opened against them, they denied any monopolistic practises and agreed to stop
buying theatres, eliminate blind bidding and limit these biddings to only five films, but they didn t
do what they said they would. Four years after, the Big five still had control over the motion picture
industry. An antitrust was launched against them and instead of saying they would change their
blind bidding or stopping the theatres ownership, they were forced to diverse themselves of both
the Big Five and also from the theatres they owned. (6) Thus the end of the Studio System reign was

Why Is Schindler s List Considered Historically Accurate
The historical movie I chose to write about was Schindler s List , directed by Steven Spielberg.
This movie is set during World War II and is a true story about Oskar Schindler, a Nazi
businessman who makes money off of Jews forced labourers and how he saved the lives of
hundreds of Jews by employing them in his factories where they would be safe from death. The
movie shows a horrific inside perspective of The Holocaust, and how cruel the Nazis truly were to
the Jews, Polish, and all who were affected by the Third Reich. It shows inside the forced labour
camps, the Auschwitz concentration camp, and the interaction the Nazis had with each other and
everyone around them. It displays the disgusting behavior and norms Nazi Germanyhad during that
time, and how simple and faultless it was to humiliate and slaughter the Jews whom had done
nothing wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie because it truly pulled audience into the story it
was telling, and captured the tone of The Holocaust quite well. The story is true and the main
characters, including Oskar Schindler, Amon Göth, and Itzhak Stern are all actual people who had
impacts during the Second World War, though their dialogue and some motives were of course
changed in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Spielberg tried to tell the stories of Schindler s Jews accurately, and tried to mimic
how they would ve looked like even bringing some of the real people at the end of the movie, set
in the future. He also accurately portrayed how liquidations worked, and how the Nazis rounded
up Jews to be sent to concentration camps or labour camps. He also did well at the selection
process, showing how weaker looking Jews were sent to die and healthier looking ones lived. He
also captured the concentration camp scenes well, including how Jews were shaved, humiliated,
and then rounded up in showers were most

Violence In The Workplace Research Paper
Violence in the work place
Many people believe that violence in the work place only consists of physical actions. Work
place violence can be demonstrated through many acts. According to researchers, violence in the
workplace consists of any act where someone is being abused, threatened, intimidated or
assaulted in their place of work(Violence in The Workplace, 2017). A few examples of these
would be verbal threats, harassment, verbal abuse or any physical harm to a worker. I have
decided to research violence in the workplace because I feel that it is a very important subject
that I myself would like to gain more knowledge on. Violence in the workplace is a great subject
that I believe everyone should know about. Also, I work at a fast food restaurant where we are
constantly dealing with customers and many coworkers. In an environment like this, it is good to
know how to identify violence in the work place. There are many factors that can add to preventing
violence in the workplace. By law, all places of employment must contain a workplace violence
protection program. Researchers tell us that the most important component of any workplace
violence prevention program is management commitment (Violence in The Workplace, 2017,
p.5). The best form of management commitment is in a written policy. This written policy should
be created by management along with a few workers. A few things that should be included in this
written policy are any consequences for violent acts in the workplace, multiple ways to prevent
violence in the workplace and it should also inform workers on how to properly report incidents
confidentially. For a more detailed and full list ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Journey Of Aeneas From Virgil s Aeneid And The...
At a first glance, the journeys of Aeneas from Virgil s Aeneid and Saint Augustine in his
autobiography The Confessions, do not seem to have much in common. In Confessions, Augustine
embarks on a spiritual journey, while Aeneas endures a physical one. After closely reading both
texts, readers can see the powerful, striking connection between Saint Augustine s journey and
Aeneas. The Confessions serves as a personal inspiration to readers by showcasing Augustine s
journey towards God, and His presence throughout that journey. Aeneas ability to overcome
hardships because of his belief in the gods and divine grace, is closely related to Augustine s
ability to be exposed to God s mercy and companionship, even when he did not have faith in Him,
because of the notion instilled in him by God. Divine Providence is evident in both The Aeneidand
The Confessions through examples such as, characters enduring storms as a result of the gods, or
dreams confirming that God is in complete control of the world. Although Augustine has strayed
from God, God remains with him. Throughout The Aeneid, Aeneas showcases divine grace, divine
Providence, and self sacrifice, which makes him relate more closely with Augustine s journey of life
than the one written by Virgil. Divine grace can be defined as the divine influence within humans,
which inspires them to resist temptation and endure tribulations. It also signifies the reawakening
of people to God. Throughout The Aeneid, Aeneas faces many

If You Come Softly, By Jacqueline Woodson
Throughout their lifetimes, individuals encounter a variety of challenges that test their resilience.
Sometimes it targets a person s personality, beliefs, race or culture. It can follow an individual
throughout their life or stay in it for a period of time. However, with a strong personality and a
determined goal, these obstacles can be conquered. An example of an obstacle that can be a battle
in everyday life is prejudice, mostly against the different types of race. Racismis the false conviction
that one race is more unrivaled than the other which isolated the world to what it is today. It is a
part of human nature, and unfortunately, many people don t know their limits when it comes to it.
Some other individuals, however, have internal conflicts with themselves which, in some situations,
limits them from the world.

Jaden Smith s career has been cemented on gender fluidity. Now, the son of the power couple Will
and Jada Pinket Smith is being called a model for a new generation.
Danielle Moodie Millks identified Jaden Smith s behavior as indicators of a growing black
liberalism that challenges white American status quo. In an article from The Root, she explains
that Jaden and his sister Willow Smith gives off an aura that they are free to do whatever they
please. Jada Pinkett Smith told US Magazine that she s not a conventional mother. Her children,
however, are free to express themselves through their clothes, hair and music to a certain degree.

Melting Point And Boling Point
Introduction: Melting point and Boling point are two fundamental physical properties that are
commonly used to identify unknown compounds, to verify already known compounds, and to
determine the purity of compounds.2 If the compound is a solid, the procedure for melting point
determination is followed. However, if it is a liquida boiling point technique must be performed,
such as distillation or refluxing.2
The melting point determination consists of five major steps: obtain the sample and make sure it is
grinded, fill 2 3 capillary tubes with the sample, ensure that the sample is tightly packed, insert the
tubes into the Melting Point Apparatus to run a fast and a slow ramp, and finally record the data.3
Grinding the sample could be done by several methods. A large stainless steel spatula could be
used to directly crush the tiny crystals into fine powder, or the sample could be first placed
within a folded piece of filter paper and then pressed with the spatula.2 A mortar and pestle are
also an appropriate instrument to grind the sample.4 Next, the adequate amount of sample, which
is 1 2mm, should be collected with each capillary tube.2 If less sample is collected, it is much
harder to see when the first and last droplets form, making it difficult for the chemist to record
melting range temperatures.6 If the capillary tubes are filled with larger sample, this could cause
uneven heating during the fast and slow ramps and could also provide inaccurate melting range that

The Standard Set Of `` Acceptable `` Rules And...
The standard set of acceptable rules and expectations for men and women are significantly
different. Gender creates disputes and often is the driving force in many of today s conflicts, but
this is an issue that has been seen as far as history is recognized. In Sean O Casey s The Three
Dublin Plays, the ideal of this genderconflict transpires creating a powerful argument against
political disputes. O Casey was one of the most political writers of his generation, exploring the
boundaries between literature and politics. One of his works, Juno and the Paycock, shows the
influence of gender conflicts within the political sphere. O Casey highlights gender as a major
theme by using reality and the characteristics of the ordinary lives faced in Dublin during the
1920s. This time period notes the upheaval of the Irish Civil War in 1922. Juno and the Paycock
utilizes the the inferiority of gender inequality to show its standstill in the progression of history
and politics within Ireland. It is clear the ideal of gender conflicts is one that is universally noted. It
is seen in many instances throughout history, causing much of society to recognize such
differences. In this recognition individuals are only understanding how men and women are being
treated differently, rather than further exploring where the conflicts lie between genders. It is
important to understand why and where these differences in gender stems from, as it helps to
further understand the progression of

Hitler Became Chancellor in January 1933 Because He Was...
Hitler s assumption of power on the 30th of January 1933 was seemingly due to the mass
popularity of the Nazi party. However it was far off achieving the 50% majority it needed to put
Hitler automatically in power. As well as popularity, backstairs intrigue and the short sightedness of
those in power enabled Hitler to become Chancellor. The weaknesses of Germanys political
leadership were fundamental to Hitler s success. In some senses the popularity of the party only
provided an opening, available for exploitation.
Undoubtedly, Nazi popularity placed pressure on government and on President Hindenburg to
make Hitler Chancellor. Their astonishing rise in votes since 810 000 in 1928 to 13.75 million in
July 1932 was extraordinary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meeting with Kurt Von Schröder, Papen not only in turn helped solve the Nazi financial debts to
ensure the continuation of the party, but presented an opportunity to Hitler which he otherwise
would not have been offered. Papen convinced Hindenburg the Nazi support could be harnessed
and that its ambitions and extremist policies contained through safety features. The President
agreed to only meet with Hitler when the Vice Chancellor, Von Papen, was present. Only two
cabinet ministers were included. By offering this, Von Papen made perhaps the most fatal
underestimation of the 20th century. He had had the responsibility of being decisive, thorough and
unfaltering when Hindenburg could not be and so his weak acceptance of Hitler s demands when
he was perhaps not even in a position to demand is surely a cause of Hitler s appointment.
Debatably, this arrangement was a production of Hitler s own political skill as opposed to, or as
well as, Papen s great failure. Hitler s opportunism, vehement desire for power and ability to
manipulate people was crucial for his success. Meeting with Von Papen in December 1932, he
resolutely demanded the Chancellorship. Whereas Strasser faltered in making botched agreements
with Von Schleicher for a lesser position, Hitler held out against odds. Additionally Hitler s
chameleon nature meant that he was successfully demanding with Von Papen, yet very respectful

Analysis Of Disney U s The Happiest Place On Earth
Within the pages of Disney U, a captivating story unfolds describing the development program
designed for Disney employees. Many times reading a perfunctory book that is designed to
improve one s skills in leadership is, well, not a delight to read. However, Disney U is able to grab
the reader s attention and guide them through a thought provoking journey of ground breaking
leadership tactics, inventive training methods, and creating an engaging environment for an
employee.
Disneyland was Walt Disney s dream of a theme park that would be, in his words, The Happiest
Place on Earth . Walt understood too well that the people that were hired would need to be taught
how to create that elusive atmosphere. He called on Van France to assist him in creating what has
become a world renowned training program. This program taught their employees, or cast members
, to achieve the ultimate result, a good show .
Walt and Van were known to be visionaries, always reaching for what seemed to be unattainable
goals in guest experience. Perfection to them is every guest feeling that they are in The Happiest
Place on Earth and enjoying the best show they have experienced. They were in fact able to reach
these goals because they listened to feedback from everyone. These dedicated leaders especially
took the time to hear from the people who knew Disneyland better than anyone, the employees that
worked there every day. Walt and Van would solicit the feedback from all employees, not

Essay Dualism in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho
The characters in Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho (1960) each have a dual nature that is masterfully
portrayed through character development and use of mirrors throughout the film. The very first
shot in Psycho is zooming in from an open view of the city where it is a bright and sunny day. As
the shot zooms in further and further it comes into a dark and shaded room that shows Marion
Crane (Janet Leigh) and Sam Loomis (John Gavin) having an affair in a undisclosed hotel. This is
dualistic image is just one example of many that Hitchcock has placed in this film. Marion Crane is
the first main character that is focused upon for the first half of Psycho. All that Marion Wants, after

Marion s death is very symbolic and dualistic in a multitude of ways. The fact that Marion is
nonetheless murdered after her self realization suggests that neither she nor the society that
produced her is recuperable (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] Once Marion
had made that fatal mistake to become a criminal, she was destined to die as a criminal, with no
chance of salvation. This is very dualistic of the ending of the frontier, which was right around the
time Psycho was produced. the movement of the film is steadily downward and inward, away from
the feeling of daylight, abundance, and expanse to a nightmarish claustrophobia that exteriorizes
the unconscious mind. (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] The image of the
West being a gigantic open expanse was coming to an end and Hitchcock showed that the frontier
was finished and there was no chance of it coming back. Hitchcock places a large amount of
dualism between the characters of Marion, Sam, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), and Lila Crane
(Vera Miles). The first couple, Sam and Marion, engenders the second, Norman and Marion:
Norman has thus taken the place of Sam. Yet he has actually, diegetically speaking, taken the place
of Marion, given the mirror dialectic between the sexes and their psychic structurations.
(Deutalbaum, Poague 357) [Bellour 357] The couple of Marion and Sam never got a chance to be
married, but as the film goes through the

The Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform And Consumer Protection Act
The Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act was signed to redesign
numerous areas of the US regulatory system and to protect consumers against mortgage
companies, banks, and other entities that were gambling and taking excessive risks with the
consumers financial assets7. The act promised to restore America and create new jobs for those
who had lost everything during the financial crisis of 2008. When the crisis occurred, Wall Street
did not have the tools to break apart or wind down a failing financial firm without putting the
American taxpayer and the entire financial system at risk, and Washington did not have the power
to oversee and limit the risk taking behavior that was taking place at the time7. The act is
composed of sixteen titles, each one can be considered a powerful law individually; however, the
act comprised them all together to have a major impact on the economy. Some of the main
provisions of the Dodd Frank Act removed the burden imposed on the taxpayers and are now
holding Wall Street accountable for any firm that fails in the future7. In addition, the Volcker Rule
has been implemented, in essence this rule prohibits banking institutions to do other activities
unconnected to assisting their customers; this provision separates proprietary trading (which
includes the banks being allowed to own, invest, or sponsor hedge funds, private equity funds, or
proprietary trading operations for their own profit ) from the activity of banking

How Technology Can Be Dangerous For Youth
In this day and age, technology is a major part of our everyday lives. Think of our schedules and
where technology fits into them. We wake up, with an alarm clock; technology. We make breakfast,
in a microwave; technology. We commute, in cars; technology. Almost everything we do involves
technology. One form that commonly occupies our attention and focus is social media. Social
media is any communication that can be done using electronics. Not only do older people find
themselves immersed in social media, but so do children. This form of technology can be
dangerous for youth, tactically imbedding snares, which can easily entangle them. One thing, or

Eagle Scout Project Observation Report
The act of service that meant the most to me was my Eagle Scout Project. I began planning it in
November of 2014 and finished April 2015. It was one of the largest things I planned from
concept to final product. Before my Eagle Scout Project, In my town, the park is one of the most
used venues in our community and most of it is beautiful but in front of the bathrooms was an area
that was overgrown and had corn growing in it. I had to go through many steps of bureaucracy just
to get approval, planeverything in detail, and execute the project effectively.
Initially, I had to gain approval from my troop and city for an initial plan. I planned to build some
raised beds filled with native North Carolinian flowers. Firstly, I had to obtain approval from the
benefactor, my scoutmaster, a unit committee member, and a council advancement committee
member. The benefactor member who worked with me was the City Manager, Homer Deerman.

a true friend should have. At first he refers to the term Kenzoku in the word Japanese which means

He also shares some characteristics of what a true friend should always have. Those characteristics
are Common interest, History, Common values, Equality, a commitment to your happiness, not

H. J Mccloskey Argument
Eighteenth century Enlightenment philosophers believed that reason and science were the
foundation of truth; thereby, tradition, faith, and superstition were becoming obsolete. They felt
they were coming out of the darkness of medieval religion and into the light of reason. However,
rather than discovering true liberation after killing God, they had only succeeded in orphaning
themselves (Craig, 2008. P. 71). This dissertation will focus on the article On Being an Atheist
written by Australian philosopher H.J. McCloskey in 1968. The purpose of his article was to
establish, what he referred to as proofs against the existence of God.
It is interesting that McCloskey refers to his grounds for evidence as proofs for according to Mark
Foreman, who is Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Liberty University, proof carries with it
connotations of certainty that actually originate from the field of mathematics and is not meant to
be used regarding philosophical arguments pertaining to the existence of God. Theists cannot prove
the existence of God 100%; ergo, the naturalists and atheists cannot provide 100% proof that God
does not exist.
Arguments are defeasible, they are not incorrigible, thus defeaters can be presented; therefore, the

A Political Campaign Analysis
The political campaign environment in the United States changed in 2010 with the allowance of
unlimited independent expenditures by outside entities in elections. The courts decisions in
Citizens United and SpeechNow.org further increases Americans concerns regarding an undue
influence of money in politics. This, coupled with increasing polarization and congressional
gridlock in the U.S. House of Representatives, promotes skepticism of the political process.
Polarization and gridlock create perceptions that representatives do not represent the average voter
preferences but represent big moneyed interests (Briffault, 2011; Gilbert and Aiken, 2015) and
donors, who are more ideologically extreme than the average voter (Barber, 2014). Given... Show

Since the 1960s, the decline of moderate ideological voters has allowed more active, partisan
voters to determine election outcomes. This produces greater ideological conflict and stimulates a
further decrease in the level of voter turnout by ideological moderates (Rogowski, 2014;
Ansolabehere, et. al, 1994). Outside money that supports or opposes a particular partisan candidate
can increase the level of electoral conflict and promote a greater rallying effect around ideological
partisan leanings of particular candidacies. This diminishes the representation for the average
constituents, median voters, and ideological moderates. Diminishing representation of average
constituent interests in Congress also has a detrimental effect on political efficacy and willingness

Thucydides Peloponnesian War
The Peloponnesian War was an exceptionally predominant war that had consequential outcomes for
both Athens and the opposing side of the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta. The Peloponnesian
War was an ancient Greek war that began in 431 to 404 BC. Thucydides was an Athenian historian
who wrote the account of History of the Peloponnesian War, which became the most immeasurably
valuable primary source. The events of the Peloponnesian War, the outcomes, the consequences of
the Spartan victory and of the Athenian defeat in conjunction with the historiographical debates
about the war, reflect the ramifications of the conflict.

The Athenians had allied with Sicily. After Sparta and Athens concluded the Peace of Nicias treaty
in 421, Athens ordered out an armada to conquer the island. Sicily was now a target due to the fact
that Sicily was not much smaller than Athens conquering all of it would have brought Athens an
immense amount of resources. The Athenian force consisted of over 100 ships and some 5000
infantry (Crystalinks.com 2015). When the armada landed in Sicily, Lamachus recommended to
attack immediately as to take the main city when it was still unprepared despite that the other two
commanders suggested different approaches. The Athenians created a base in Catana and defeated
the Syracusans in battle, nonetheless illness, political sabotage and death had struck the three

fortifications and reformulate the structure of command. The new system failed and the Athenians
laid siege to Syracuse. Athens sent reinforcements to Syracuse, and very burdensome, Sparta
declared war on Athens, this made spreading the required resources difficult. It did not take long
until the Athenian Expeditionary Force was conclusively destroyed. Thucydides however states

Addison s disease
Addison s disease is a rare disorder that occurs when the adrenal glands do not produce enough
hormones. It occurs in all age groups and affects all genders equally. This disorder is characterized
by weight loss, muscle weakness, fatigue, and low blood pressure and oftentimes darkening of the
skin in both exposed and unexposed parts of the body.
Thomas Addison first described the clinical presentation of primary adrenocortical insufficiency
(Addison s Disease) in 1855 in his classic paper, On the Constitutional and Local Effects of
Diseases of the Supra Renal Capsules.

Steroid Use in Major League Baseball Essay
Steroid Use in Major League Baseball
Why Major League Baseball players would use steroids is the biggest question that every person
in the world wants to know. I think MLB players use steroids so they can bulk up and get stronger,
which will allow them to last through the long, seven month season. I think that because they play
162 games a year during these seven months that this causes a great deal of wear and tear on their
bodies. Especially if a player gets hurt, they might try to take illegal medicines, such as steroids, to
help them get back on the field quicker, hoping that maybe they could help their team win the
pennant. Steroids however, are indeed very dangerous because they mess with the body s hormones.

Everyone who he named was playing good baseball at the time he said they were taking steroids.
For example, Mark McGwire was one baseball player s name that came up. He broke the record
for home runs in a season in 1998. It seemed impossible to break that record at the time, but he
did it. Now nobody knows if he was on steroids or not. When he had to come in front of a court
recently, and they asked him questions about doing steroids, he said that he could not say not
because his lawyer advised him not to and that it might hurt him and his family in the long run.
When he did not answer the question, I myself lost respect for him because, to me, that meant he
did indeed do steroids. He was the only player that did not answer the question. Sammy Sosa and
Rafael Palmerio answered that they did not do steroids. Canseco also said that he not only injected
McGwire, but also Jason Giambi. Giambi was the most obvious steroid user, and he actually
admitted to doing steroids this year in front of a grand jury. If steroids were allowed in the MLB,
there would probably be all kinds of new records, but this would not accomplish much because
they were broken with the help of steroids. In Major League baseball this off season, there has
been a lot of controversy about steroids. The commissioner of MLB, Bud Selig, has banned
steroid usage from the game. Everyone this off season was shocked when Canseco wrote a book

Discrimination In The Blue Hotel By Stephen Crane
Entrepreneur and theoretical neuroscientist Vivienne Ming has said that Discrimination is not done
by Villians. It s done by us. This kind of thought process and anti discrimination viewpoints is
common among today s youth and most adults. However, in the not so distant past, discrimination
was very prominent in American society. For example, Stephen Crane s widely read short story, The
Blue Hotel , exhibits many situations where discriminationdrives the plot forward.
Within the first few paragraphs of The Blue Hotel, the reader is promptly introduced to a situation
in which discrimination occurs, due to the description of the Palace Hotel. The author, Stephen
Crane, describes the color scheme of the hotel, which points out how different the hotel is to the
rest of the town, and proceeds to write that The Palace Hotel, then, looked always loud and
screaming in a way that made the bright winter scenes of Nebraska seem only a dull gray. (Crane,
26) Stephen s use of adjectives and style causes the Palace Hotel to seem foreign and almost as if
the establishment doesn t belong in the setting. The author then emphasizes this point by saying
that It was believed that no traveler could pass the Palace Hotel without looking at it. (Crane 26)
This manner of discrimination causes the reader to look at the town and the hotel as two different
entities almost, resulting in readers viewing the town as a more inferior place when compared to
the hotel. After Mr. Crane finishes

The Mongol Empire And The Impact Of The Mongol Empire
Revised paper proposal and bibliography
The Mongol empire was one the greatest empires of all time expanding all over Central Asia.
Bordering Chinese states, the Khwarazmian empire, present day Afghanistan, Siberia, Iran, and
many more, at its height the mongol empire was over 20,000,000 square kilometers. This was all
possible due to extraordinary men in Central Asia, ruled by Genghis khan emperor of the Mongol
empire. These Asian nomads along with their fearless and intelligent leader, flourished against
numerous odds impacting all those whom they waged war against. A recipient of this impact in
particular was Russia. It was around 1219 when the Mongols first entered the Kievan Russia
marking the beginning of the interactions of the two. With the Mongols rise in establishing one of
the largest contiguous empire in history and having Russia only distances away the collision of the
two were inevitable. As history shows this collision did happen in the year 1236 which marked the
beginning of great impact that the Mongols would have on the Russian empire culturally,
politically, and economically.
Prior to the rise of the Mongol empire and their invasion of Russia, was a time of violence.
Mongolia separated by tribes and provinces was a non unified empire with little impact to Central
Asia. Being separated, feuds between provinces of power and money were the reason why
Mongolia remained separated. The provinces after a long a grueling process eventually became

advent of the Nano in the auto industry has now set a new benchmark for other auto industry

the people need, their affordability and only then work towards meeting that on an innovative
platform. Following Tata s footsteps, Ford, Nissan, Volkswagen, Hyundai and General Motors

Poe s intention was to show how a dream may be the only thing you have, but it is only a lie.
Another example is Ah! what is not a dream by day,To him whose eyes are cast... Hath cheered
me as a lovely beam . He is confused about having such a dream when his life is bad. He writes
the poem in his point of view, he does this through the use of the language. This poem talks about
the motivation, anxiety, and hope you get when dreaming, but wake up knowing it was never
true. The three verses That holy dream that holy dream, While all the world were chiding, Hath
cheered me as a lovely beam indirectly shows the importance of a dream in man, how it can give
a person freedom from what he is suffering. On the other hand, What could there be more purely
bright, In Truth s day star? also indicates that every man must be capable of facing the reality and
keep on going such as the dream is only a truth that will never be true. Never be crushed by your
dreams is the main purpose of the poem. The title A Dream can give a sarcastic tone indirectly
showing the very little importance a dream is. But can give an opposite tone to the poem such
as a glimpse of hope. Depending on the reader, the poem can give diverse emotions. Edgar Allan
Poe uses many literary devices in his poem A Dream , and uses them to increase the quality of
his poem and make it be more lively. Poe applies the literary device of imagery by using the terms

The process requires millions of gallons of water which is mixed with numerous chemicals
sometimes sand or other substances to prevent the cracks from closing. Fracking has been

earth quakes. Liquids used in the process are stored on site in holding tanks or ponds and are
sometimes pumped back into the ground using waste wells. Fracking has become a common
practice to increase production on old and new drilling operations. Experts predicted 100,000
new jobs in Texas will be created in the Oil and Gas industries by 2018 bring the total to over

Arguments On Human Cloning
Human cloning has been around since 1952 and up to this day, the issues surrounding cloning of
humans remain a hot topic. People are divided on both sides of the controversy and morally the
arguments are broader. The word cloning is mostly used in everyday communication to mean and
represent many different technological procedures. More specifically, cloningis defined as somatic
cell nuclear transfer. Human cloning is a very controversial topic as well as a tremendous
breakthrough in today s technology and science. There have been many experiments on animal
cloning which have been successful, and because of these discoveries, there is a belief that human
cloning would be successful too.
Many individuals argue that each human life is unique and born of a miracle that is beyond
laboratory science. A fundamental argument is that cloning is ethically wrong, and many
religious groups have rejected it saying that cloning is equivalent to playing God . And cloning
goes against these certain religions because they believe only God has created life and its
various forms in nature, and humans should have no right to act like God . And many others
argue that human cloning should continue for many reasons. One of them being that cloned
humans embryos would make research into genetics and genetically related diseases and their
preventions or treatments, much easier, as well as cheaper. Embryo cloning has also been seen
as a potential treatment for infertility when in vitro fertilization is not available. And this can
occur when parents are infertile, or when both or one of the parents harbor a genome coding for
certain undesirable traits or beliefs. Cloned embryos tissues could be used for the replacement of
lost or diseased tissues. Some experts believe that embryo should not require any moral
consideration. Reason being that they believe at the stage an embryo is cloned, it is basically just a
bunch of cells that contain DNA, which are considered no different than the millions of skin cells
we shed daily. At that stage, embryonic cells should not be considered equivalent to human beings
because it does not have any self awareness, memory, feelings, thoughts, organs, legs, arms, etc.
However, adult cloning might be

The Giver Arguments
Giver Argument Essay The book Giver by Lois Lowry is about a 13 year boy named Jonas.
Jonas was selected for a special job because he can see beyond such as the color red. The special
job is getting memories of the past such as snow and love from his mentor the Giver. Jonas also
receives memories about death. He sees a release, which is where a worker of the community
injects a liquid killing the person. His dad killed one of the newborn twins because no one in the
community can look the same. Everyone in the community was told that release was kicking
someone out of the community and shipping them to elsewhere. Jonassees his dad throw the baby in

Jonas rides the same red sled on the soft snow like the first memory the Giver gave him. Jonas
knew that he wouldn t get pain because another memory that the Giver gave him was on a hill
with a sled, but the snow was hard, causing him to fall of the sled and get a lot of pain. The hill
Jonas is on right now is soft, so they won t get hurt. Jonas even said We re almost there, Gabriel,
he whispered, feeling quite certain without quite knowing why. I remember this place, Gabe.
And it was true. But it was not a grasping of a thin and burdensome recollection; this was
different. This was something different. This was something that he could keep. It was a
memory of his own(p. 223 224) Even the Christmas lights were from his memories. When the
Giver gave Jonas a memory of love, it was a family celebrating Christmas with lights and songs.
Riding to elsewhere on the sled, Jonas sees Christmas light and hears Christmas songs like the
memories, making him happy. Jonas noticed as they went downward. downward, sliding, and all
at once he could see lights, and he recognized them now. He knew they were shining through the
windows of rooms, that they were the red, blue, and yellow lights that twinkled from the trees in
places where families created and kept memories, where they celebrated love (p. 225). Jonas
knows what to expect because he recieved memories of them from the Giver. Now he can keep it

Oil Pulling Research Paper
The process of oil pulling is one that I have been doing for several years. There is a lot of
information currently online about oil pulling with a lot of different opions. However have you
ever thought about how much money you could actually save in dental bills if you were actually
able to take care of your teeth naturally and keep them healthy. Most of us have dental insurance
which allows you to get one or two dental cleanings per year. If you don t need any major work
than you should be able to maintain your dental health yourself. Keep in mind that the information I
am sharing is just that information. I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice, nor am I
suggesting in any way that you should not go to the dentist. It is... Show more content on

If you spit it down the drain you are guaranteed to have a clogged drain. So what does oil pulling
do? Well for me, it helped to whiten my teeth, and actually it is currently helping to heal my
gums. That s just my opinion, and what I have experienced since I started taking the coconut oil.
Some do have a few concerns when it comes to oil pulling, like if your fillings will loosen up and
fall out. Of course if this were to happen you really would not be saving any money. You would
be doing the opposite and spending more to replace those fillings. I personally have a mouth full
of fillings and have so far not have one fall out. This could just be an experience that is unique to
me, since each person is different. So how can the coconut oil help you save money by oil
pulling? Well, if it works to help keep your gums and teeth healthy that is clearly a huge savings.
There is also some science behind the oil pullung method that shows is has some benefits to your
health. For additional information on oil pulling, the different types of oils you can use and the
possible benefits you can take a look at the articles

The Legal Definition Of A Duty Of Care And Negligence
The legal definition of a duty of care and negligence is very complex. It primary concerns itself with
relationship between the defendant and the claimant, it must be established that there is an
obligation upon the defendant to take proper care to avoid causing injury to the claimant in all
circumstances.
Determining negligence is not always easy. Before 1932 there was no generalised duty of care in
negligence. The tort did exist but it was only applied in particular situations where the courts had
decided that a duty should be owed, e.g., road accidents, bailments or dangerous goods. Third
parties who suffered as a result of a breach of contract had no remedy, because they were not a part
to the contract and thus excluded by the doctrine of privity, which means that only parties to
contracts should be able to sue to enforce their rights or claim damages.
The idea of a duty of care in the tort of negligence has been developed over the years through
judges making decisions in high profile cases. In a ground breaking case and milestone in
Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562, an opportunity had arisen for Lord Atkin to formulate the
neighbour principle . By doing so It created the and laid down the foundations of modern law on
negligence, by setting out general principles whereby one person would owe a duty of care to
another person.
Facts:May Donoghue, a shop assistant, met a friend at the Well meadow cafe in Paisley, near
Glasgow. Upon arrival Ms Donoghue s friend

The Impact Of Tajikistan On The United States Of The...
Tajikistan gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and in its short life has already
seen considerable amounts of turmoil. When it was first declared a sovereign nation it was
plunged very quickly in to civil war. The war led to a quick decline in the nation s economy. This
war crippled the nation leaving Tajikistanvery weak in the June of 1997 when the war finally drew
to a close. This civil war weakened Tajikistan s legitimate economy and left many people to rely
on the revenues of illicit opiate trade . Tajikistan is slowly recovering from the effects of becoming
a new nation, plagued with war and drugproblems early in its life, and this requires the government
to find a way to end the drug usage and distribution problem that grips the country along with the
corruption of the state in an attempt to improve the economy and living conditions of Tajikistan.
There are many contributing factors to the perfect storm of sorts that lead to the rapid increase in
Tajikistan s status as a drug state. One of the most important of these is the proximity of Tajikistan
to Afghanistan. This proximity allowed for Afghanistan to take advantage of Tajikistan in the
midst of civil unrest giving the people of the poverty stricken economy an easy way to make quick
money. This was made easier for Afghanistan by Tajikistan s lack of border regulations, allowing
drugs to easily be transferred between the two countries. Afghanistan shares a 1,200 km border with

Going back to chapter 1, millions of cats and dogs are euthanized a year and endure being stray.
These high numbers are mostly because of a big litter that was unplanned. Removing a pet s
reproductive organs is a great way to battle animal overpopulation. The price of spaying or
neutering has a range of about $45 $175. That is not too much relative to caring for a whole litter
of kittens or puppies. There are other great reasons to spay and neuter animals besides the fact that
it doesn t contribute to overpopulation. For instance, spaying helps prevent uterine infections and
breast cancer, which is fatal in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. (pets.webmd.com)
In summary, one easy, cost effective treatment can help with animal overpopulation and

Coyotes In City Analysis
Coyotes Create Chaos In City Coyotes have been an issue in Southern California for decades
now, specifically in the city of La Habra. An uprise in coyote attacks over the last few years has
finally brought the attention of the city council. Coyotes going into residential areas and attacking
pets is becoming more common. La Habra pet owners are leaving pet food and garbage outside at
night which tends to attract the coyotes into residential areas. In order to stop coyotes from
coming into residential areas and the attacks on pets, any food source the coyotes might want
should be kept indoors along with the actual pet itself. Coyotes are not just a problem in La Habra,
but most if not all of Southern California, and they can affect anyone,... Show more content on

Coyotes return to homes because they have got use to finding food daily. According to the
article Keep me wild:Coyote Coyotes primarily hunt rodents and rabbits for food, but will take
advantage of whatever is available including garbage, pet food, and domestic animals . They
also state garbage cans should be kept tightly closed and make sure they are not tippable.
Remove any source of food and water such as peed food, fallen tree fruit, or bird feeders ( Keep

coyotes might want to eat. Coyotes have got so use to there being food in residential areas, that
they know exactly where to go back and get more. Once the coyotes are use to there being no
more food were they expect food to be, they will stop showing up and therefore the attacks will stop.

The supporting roll is a boy who called Manolin. The old man has not caught a fish in 84 days.
But he never gives up, he has full of fighting spirit.. Finally in the eighty fifth day he catchs a

Jane Johnston Schoolcraft Analysis
Jane Johnston Schoolcraft, America s first Female Native American writer and poet, exemplifies a
unique multicultural influence in her writing as a result of her intermarried parents. Robert Dale
Parker (2009), in his paper Contemporary Anticolonialist Reading and the Collaborative Writing of
Jane Johnston Schoolcraft, describes her controversial writings as representing the cacophonous
medley of internal contradictions that she lived in (p.52). Specifically, that of her poem Pensive
Hours, which exhibits the layered nature of her works, shown through her Anglo American heritage
(with an emphasis towards Christian) tones hidden alongside her native spirituality, establishes Jane
Johnston Schoolcraft as an American poet influenced by more than English Romanticism. Michelle
Esther Alexander Fankhauser (2010), identifies Schoolcraft s dual influential environment, in her
paper Booked: Womanhood is too Tightly Bound to Give Me Scope which asserts, Schoolcraft s
choice of poetryas a genre meant to be read and heard out loud is an indicator that even when
working within a literate tradition, her upbringing in an oral one was never far from her mind (p.
52 53). Schoolcraft, much like many of the early American Renaissance writers, were unable to
write in isolation and consequently their works were inadequate in their entirety to be exclusively
romantic pieces of literature (Parker 2009). Therefore, neither can Schoolcraft s work be singularly
influenced by her Ojibwe

The Overall Problem At Apple Inc.
The overall problem at Apple Inc. is a stagnant iPhone growth problem due to decreased innovation
and marketing efforts. Apple has hit a static point in its growth and continues to lose market share
to its global competitors while trying to recover and invent the next big product (Seeking Alpha,
2017). Apple s innovation and marketing efforts have been minimal and thus reflect in the company
s declining global position, pricing and current growth statistics.
Apple Inc. has been stagnant over the past two years despite successful profits, a fast growing

Apple lost valuable market share to Chinese manufacturers Huawei and Oppo, which saw
promising increases in their shares year over year (9to5Mac, 2017). Currently, the iPhone market
share is decreasing in China, the world s second largest economy after the U.S., which can be
attributed to new manufacturers and iPhone users delaying upgrades (9to5Mac, 2017). While all
products go through a product life cycle, Apple has already been through this cycle with at least
two products (Forbes, 2016). Currently, Apple has no backup to replace its vanguard iPhone
product. Adding to injury, the competing Huawei P9 phone compares well against the iPhone 7
and cost 30 percent cheaper than the iPhone (9to5Mac, 2017). In addition, cheaper android phones
that offer everything the iPhone does and sometimes more at fraction of the price are also gaining
market share rapidly (9to5Mac, 2017).
PROMOTION For the first time in over a decade, Apple reported a yearly decline in quarterly
revenue. This can be attributed in part to Apple s recent lack in marketing efforts (Linkedin, 2016).

  • 2. Hollywood Studio System Essay What was the role of the Hollywood Studio System in creating and promoting stars? The Studio System A model of industrial organisation in the film industry from about 1915 1946, characterised by the development of major and minor studios that produced, distributed and exhibited films and held film actors, directors, art directors and other directors under contract (1 Page 456 7) The Golden Age was certainly golden for the biggest film studios in Hollywood, these studios include Paramount (1916), Warner Bros (1919), RKO (1928), Fox (1915) and M.G.M (1924), or as they were best known, The Big Five . It was these five studios that created the Studio System, a system that gave all five total control over the movies that they made, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Douglas Gomery in The Hollywood Studio System , he describes the end of the Studio System through three outside shocks. They were, The decrease in demand caused by the decline in incomes during the Great Depression, 1938 s court case against the Big Five and the Second World War (5 Page 22) However, the main issue on why the Studio System fell apart was the fact that the Big Five were sued for use of Blind Bidding when selling their films to theatres. In short of what they say on www.cybercollege.com, in 1938, the U.S Supreme Court had decided that these studios represented a monopoly and ordered for the case to be opened. Two years after the case was opened against them, they denied any monopolistic practises and agreed to stop buying theatres, eliminate blind bidding and limit these biddings to only five films, but they didn t do what they said they would. Four years after, the Big five still had control over the motion picture industry. An antitrust was launched against them and instead of saying they would change their blind bidding or stopping the theatres ownership, they were forced to diverse themselves of both the Big Five and also from the theatres they owned. (6) Thus the end of the Studio System reign was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Is Schindler s List Considered Historically Accurate The historical movie I chose to write about was Schindler s List , directed by Steven Spielberg. This movie is set during World War II and is a true story about Oskar Schindler, a Nazi businessman who makes money off of Jews forced labourers and how he saved the lives of hundreds of Jews by employing them in his factories where they would be safe from death. The movie shows a horrific inside perspective of The Holocaust, and how cruel the Nazis truly were to the Jews, Polish, and all who were affected by the Third Reich. It shows inside the forced labour camps, the Auschwitz concentration camp, and the interaction the Nazis had with each other and everyone around them. It displays the disgusting behavior and norms Nazi Germanyhad during that time, and how simple and faultless it was to humiliate and slaughter the Jews whom had done nothing wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie because it truly pulled audience into the story it was telling, and captured the tone of The Holocaust quite well. The story is true and the main characters, including Oskar Schindler, Amon GГ¶th, and Itzhak Stern are all actual people who had impacts during the Second World War, though their dialogue and some motives were of course changed in... For instance, Spielberg tried to tell the stories of Schindler s Jews accurately, and tried to mimic how they would ve looked like even bringing some of the real people at the end of the movie, set in the future. He also accurately portrayed how liquidations worked, and how the Nazis rounded up Jews to be sent to concentration camps or labour camps. He also did well at the selection process, showing how weaker looking Jews were sent to die and healthier looking ones lived. He also captured the concentration camp scenes well, including how Jews were shaved, humiliated, and then rounded up in showers were most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Violence In The Workplace Research Paper Violence in the work place Many people believe that violence in the work place only consists of physical actions. Work place violence can be demonstrated through many acts. According to researchers, violence in the workplace consists of any act where someone is being abused, threatened, intimidated or assaulted in their place of work(Violence in The Workplace, 2017). A few examples of these would be verbal threats, harassment, verbal abuse or any physical harm to a worker. I have decided to research violence in the workplace because I feel that it is a very important subject that I myself would like to gain more knowledge on. Violence in the workplace is a great subject that I believe everyone should know about. Also, I work at a fast food restaurant where we are constantly dealing with customers and many coworkers. In an environment like this, it is good to know how to identify violence in the work place. There are many factors that can add to preventing violence in the workplace. By law, all places of employment must contain a workplace violence protection program. Researchers tell us that the most important component of any workplace violence prevention program is management commitment (Violence in The Workplace, 2017, p.5). The best form of management commitment is in a written policy. This written policy should be created by management along with a few workers. A few things that should be included in this written policy are any consequences for violent acts in the workplace, multiple ways to prevent violence in the workplace and it should also inform workers on how to properly report incidents confidentially. • 5. The Journey Of Aeneas From Virgil s Aeneid And The... At a first glance, the journeys of Aeneas from Virgil s Aeneid and Saint Augustine in his autobiography The Confessions, do not seem to have much in common. In Confessions, Augustine embarks on a spiritual journey, while Aeneas endures a physical one. After closely reading both texts, readers can see the powerful, striking connection between Saint Augustine s journey and Aeneas. The Confessions serves as a personal inspiration to readers by showcasing Augustine s journey towards God, and His presence throughout that journey. Aeneas ability to overcome hardships because of his belief in the gods and divine grace, is closely related to Augustine s ability to be exposed to God s mercy and companionship, even when he did not have faith in Him, because of the notion instilled in him by God. Divine Providence is evident in both The Aeneidand The Confessions through examples such as, characters enduring storms as a result of the gods, or dreams confirming that God is in complete control of the world. Although Augustine has strayed from God, God remains with him. Throughout The Aeneid, Aeneas showcases divine grace, divine Providence, and self sacrifice, which makes him relate more closely with Augustine s journey of life than the one written by Virgil. Divine grace can be defined as the divine influence within humans, which inspires them to resist temptation and endure tribulations. It also signifies the reawakening of people to God. • 8. Melting Point And Boling Point Introduction: Melting point and Boling point are two fundamental physical properties that are commonly used to identify unknown compounds, to verify already known compounds, and to determine the purity of compounds.2 If the compound is a solid, the procedure for melting point determination is followed. However, if it is a liquida boiling point technique must be performed, such as distillation or refluxing.2 The melting point determination consists of five major steps: obtain the sample and make sure it is grinded, fill 2 3 capillary tubes with the sample, ensure that the sample is tightly packed, insert the tubes into the Melting Point Apparatus to run a fast and a slow ramp, and finally record the data.3 Grinding the sample could be done by several methods. A large stainless steel spatula could be used to directly crush the tiny crystals into fine powder, or the sample could be first placed within a folded piece of filter paper and then pressed with the spatula.2 A mortar and pestle are also an appropriate instrument to grind the sample.4 Next, the adequate amount of sample, which is 1 2mm, should be collected with each capillary tube.2 If less sample is collected, it is much harder to see when the first and last droplets form, making it difficult for the chemist to record melting range temperatures.6 If the capillary tubes are filled with larger sample, this could cause uneven heating during the fast and slow ramps and could also provide inaccurate melting range that is ... • 9. The Standard Set Of `` Acceptable `` Rules And... The standard set of acceptable rules and expectations for men and women are significantly different. Gender creates disputes and often is the driving force in many of today s conflicts, but this is an issue that has been seen as far as history is recognized. In Sean O Casey s The Three Dublin Plays, the ideal of this genderconflict transpires creating a powerful argument against political disputes. O Casey was one of the most political writers of his generation, exploring the boundaries between literature and politics. One of his works, Juno and the Paycock, shows the influence of gender conflicts within the political sphere. O Casey highlights gender as a major theme by using reality and the characteristics of the ordinary lives faced in Dublin during the 1920s. This time period notes the upheaval of the Irish Civil War in 1922. Juno and the Paycock utilizes the the inferiority of gender inequality to show its standstill in the progression of history and politics within Ireland. It is clear the ideal of gender conflicts is one that is universally noted. It is seen in many instances throughout history, causing much of society to recognize such differences. In this recognition individuals are only understanding how men and women are being treated differently, rather than further exploring where the conflicts lie between genders. It is important to understand why and where these differences in gender stems from, as it helps to further understand the progression of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Hitler Became Chancellor in January 1933 Because He Was... Hitler s assumption of power on the 30th of January 1933 was seemingly due to the mass popularity of the Nazi party. However it was far off achieving the 50% majority it needed to put Hitler automatically in power. As well as popularity, backstairs intrigue and the short sightedness of those in power enabled Hitler to become Chancellor. The weaknesses of Germanys political leadership were fundamental to Hitler s success. In some senses the popularity of the party only provided an opening, available for exploitation. Undoubtedly, Nazi popularity placed pressure on government and on President Hindenburg to make Hitler Chancellor. Their astonishing rise in votes since 810 000 in 1928 to 13.75 million in July 1932 was extraordinary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meeting with Kurt Von SchrГ¶der, Papen not only in turn helped solve the Nazi financial debts to ensure the continuation of the party, but presented an opportunity to Hitler which he otherwise would not have been offered. Papen convinced Hindenburg the Nazi support could be harnessed and that its ambitions and extremist policies contained through safety features. The President agreed to only meet with Hitler when the Vice Chancellor, Von Papen, was present. Only two cabinet ministers were included. By offering this, Von Papen made perhaps the most fatal underestimation of the 20th century. He had had the responsibility of being decisive, thorough and unfaltering when Hindenburg could not be and so his weak acceptance of Hitler s demands when he was perhaps not even in a position to demand is surely a cause of Hitler s appointment. Debatably, this arrangement was a production of Hitler s own political skill as opposed to, or as well as, Papen s great failure. Hitler s opportunism, vehement desire for power and ability to manipulate people was crucial for his success. Meeting with Von Papen in December 1932, he resolutely demanded the Chancellorship. Whereas Strasser faltered in making botched agreements with Von Schleicher for a lesser position, Hitler held out against odds. However, Disney U is able to grab the reader s attention and guide them through a thought provoking journey of ground breaking leadership tactics, inventive training methods, and creating an engaging environment for an employee. Disneyland was Walt Disney s dream of a theme park that would be, in his words, The Happiest Place on Earth . Walt understood too well that the people that were hired would need to be taught how to create that elusive atmosphere. He called on Van France to assist him in creating what has become a world renowned training program. This program taught their employees, or cast members , to achieve the ultimate result, a good show . Walt and Van were known to be visionaries, always reaching for what seemed to be unattainable goals in guest experience. Perfection to them is every guest feeling that they are in The Happiest Place on Earth and enjoying the best show they have experienced. • 13. Essay Dualism in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho The characters in Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho (1960) each have a dual nature that is masterfully portrayed through character development and use of mirrors throughout the film. The very first shot in Psycho is zooming in from an open view of the city where it is a bright and sunny day. As the shot zooms in further and further it comes into a dark and shaded room that shows Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) and Sam Loomis (John Gavin) having an affair in a undisclosed hotel. This is dualistic image is just one example of many that Hitchcock has placed in this film. Marion Crane is the first main character that is focused upon for the first half of Psycho. Marion s death is very symbolic and dualistic in a multitude of ways. The fact that Marion is nonetheless murdered after her self realization suggests that neither she nor the society that produced her is recuperable (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] Once Marion had made that fatal mistake to become a criminal, she was destined to die as a criminal, with no chance of salvation. This is very dualistic of the ending of the frontier, which was right around the time Psycho was produced. the movement of the film is steadily downward and inward, away from the feeling of daylight, abundance, and expanse to a nightmarish claustrophobia that exteriorizes the unconscious mind. (Gottlieb, Brookhouse 362) [Christopher Sharrett 362] The image of the West being a gigantic open expanse was coming to an end and Hitchcock showed that the frontier was finished and there was no chance of it coming back. Hitchcock places a large amount of dualism between the characters of Marion, Sam, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), and Lila Crane (Vera Miles). The first couple, Sam and Marion, engenders the second, Norman and Marion: Norman has thus taken the place of Sam. Yet he has actually, diegetically speaking, taken the place of Marion, given the mirror dialectic between the sexes and their psychic structurations. The Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform And Consumer Protection Act The Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act was signed to redesign numerous areas of the US regulatory system and to protect consumers against mortgage companies, banks, and other entities that were gambling and taking excessive risks with the consumers financial assets7. The act promised to restore America and create new jobs for those who had lost everything during the financial crisis of 2008. When the crisis occurred, Wall Street did not have the tools to break apart or wind down a failing financial firm without putting the American taxpayer and the entire financial system at risk, and Washington did not have the power to oversee and limit the risk taking behavior that was taking place at the time7. The act is composed of sixteen titles, each one can be considered a powerful law individually; however, the act comprised them all together to have a major impact on the economy. Some of the main provisions of the Dodd Frank Act removed the burden imposed on the taxpayers and are now holding Wall Street accountable for any firm that fails in the future7. We wake up, with an alarm clock; technology. We make breakfast, in a microwave; technology. We commute, in cars; technology. Almost everything we do involves technology. One form that commonly occupies our attention and focus is social media. Social media is any communication that can be done using electronics. A meeting that should have been one hour lasted three and a half hours. After 2 hours of people yelling at the council men for being Godless Fascists and other slurs, I was finally up at the podium, sick as a dog. I explained what my project was, why I wanted to do this, and a timescale for completion. • 20. What Makes A True Friend, By Alex Lickerman M. D. In the article What Makes A True Friend the author Alex Lickerman M.D discusses about qualities a true friend should have. At first he refers to the term Kenzoku in the word Japanese which means Family. He explains that many of us may have a true friend that can mean more like family to us. He also shares some characteristics of what a true friend should always have. Those characteristics are Common interest, History, Common values, Equality, a commitment to your happiness, not asking you to place the friendshipbefore your principles, and a good influence. However, these characteristics that Alex stated are very true and helpful but I would like to share three of my own definition of the qualities of a true friend which are loyalty, trustworthy and someone who s supportive.... It will most likely cause problems in a friendship with that person, nowadays loyalty is hard to find in a friend because people never know when they are being fake and lying to you, But loyalty really consist of a loyal friend who is willing to share private secrets with each other and not tell anyone about it afterwards. Like for example, my true loyal friend is my mother because she s always the person I always go to whenever I have to talk about something important and she doesn t tell anyone after I share those secrets with her. J Mccloskey Argument Eighteenth century Enlightenment philosophers believed that reason and science were the foundation of truth; thereby, tradition, faith, and superstition were becoming obsolete. They felt they were coming out of the darkness of medieval religion and into the light of reason. However, rather than discovering true liberation after killing God, they had only succeeded in orphaning themselves (Craig, 2008. P. 71). This dissertation will focus on the article On Being an Atheist written by Australian philosopher H.J. McCloskey in 1968. The purpose of his article was to establish, what he referred to as proofs against the existence of God. It is interesting that McCloskey refers to his grounds for evidence as proofs for according to Mark Foreman, who is Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Liberty University, proof carries with it connotations of certainty that actually originate from the field of mathematics and is not meant to be used regarding philosophical arguments pertaining to the existence of God. Theists cannot prove the existence of God 100%; ergo, the naturalists and atheists cannot provide 100% proof that God does not exist. A Political Campaign Analysis The political campaign environment in the United States changed in 2010 with the allowance of unlimited independent expenditures by outside entities in elections. The courts decisions in Citizens United and SpeechNow.org further increases Americans concerns regarding an undue influence of money in politics. Steroid Use in Major League Baseball Essay Steroid Use in Major League Baseball Why Major League Baseball players would use steroids is the biggest question that every person in the world wants to know. I think MLB players use steroids so they can bulk up and get stronger, which will allow them to last through the long, seven month season. I think that because they play 162 games a year during these seven months that this causes a great deal of wear and tear on their bodies. Especially if a player gets hurt, they might try to take illegal medicines, such as steroids, to help them get back on the field quicker, hoping that maybe they could help their team win the pennant. This kind of thought process and anti discrimination viewpoints is common among today s youth and most adults. However, in the not so distant past, discrimination was very prominent in American society. For example, Stephen Crane s widely read short story, The Blue Hotel , exhibits many situations where discriminationdrives the plot forward. Within the first few paragraphs of The Blue Hotel, the reader is promptly introduced to a situation in which discrimination occurs, due to the description of the Palace Hotel. The author, Stephen Crane, describes the color scheme of the hotel, which points out how different the hotel is to the rest of the town, and proceeds to write that The Palace Hotel, then, looked always loud and screaming in a way that made the bright winter scenes of Nebraska seem only a dull gray. (Crane, 26) Stephen s use of adjectives and style causes the Palace Hotel to seem foreign and almost as if the establishment doesn t belong in the setting. The author then emphasizes this point by saying that It was believed that no traveler could pass the Palace Hotel without looking at it. • 40. Arguments On Human Cloning Human cloning has been around since 1952 and up to this day, the issues surrounding cloning of humans remain a hot topic. People are divided on both sides of the controversy and morally the arguments are broader. The word cloning is mostly used in everyday communication to mean and represent many different technological procedures. More specifically, cloningis defined as somatic cell nuclear transfer. Human cloning is a very controversial topic as well as a tremendous breakthrough in today s technology and science. There have been many experiments on animal cloning which have been successful, and because of these discoveries, there is a belief that human cloning would be successful too. Many individuals argue that each human life is unique and born of a miracle that is beyond laboratory science. A fundamental argument is that cloning is ethically wrong, and many religious groups have rejected it saying that cloning is equivalent to playing God . And cloning goes against these certain religions because they believe only God has created life and its various forms in nature, and humans should have no right to act like God . And many others argue that human cloning should continue for many reasons. One of them being that cloned humans embryos would make research into genetics and genetically related diseases and their preventions or treatments, much easier, as well as cheaper. Embryo cloning has also been seen as a potential treatment for infertility when in vitro fertilization is not available. And this can occur when parents are infertile, or when both or one of the parents harbor a genome coding for certain undesirable traits or beliefs. Cloned embryos tissues could be used for the replacement of lost or diseased tissues. Some experts believe that embryo should not require any moral consideration. Reason being that they believe at the stage an embryo is cloned, it is basically just a bunch of cells that contain DNA, which are considered no different than the millions of skin cells we shed daily. At that stage, embryonic cells should not be considered equivalent to human beings because it does not have any self awareness, memory, feelings, thoughts, organs, legs, arms, etc. However, adult cloning might be ... • 43. The Legal Definition Of A Duty Of Care And Negligence The legal definition of a duty of care and negligence is very complex. It primary concerns itself with relationship between the defendant and the claimant, it must be established that there is an obligation upon the defendant to take proper care to avoid causing injury to the claimant in all circumstances. Determining negligence is not always easy. Before 1932 there was no generalised duty of care in negligence. The tort did exist but it was only applied in particular situations where the courts had decided that a duty should be owed, e.g., road accidents, bailments or dangerous goods. Third parties who suffered as a result of a breach of contract had no remedy, because they were not a part to the contract and thus excluded by the doctrine of privity, which means that only parties to contracts should be able to sue to enforce their rights or claim damages. The idea of a duty of care in the tort of negligence has been developed over the years through judges making decisions in high profile cases. In a ground breaking case and milestone in Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562, an opportunity had arisen for Lord Atkin to formulate the neighbour principle . By doing so It created the and laid down the foundations of modern law on negligence, by setting out general principles whereby one person would owe a duty of care to another person. Tajikistan gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and in its short life has already seen considerable amounts of turmoil. When it was first declared a sovereign nation it was plunged very quickly in to civil war. The war led to a quick decline in the nation s economy. This war crippled the nation leaving Tajikistanvery weak in the June of 1997 when the war finally drew to a close. This civil war weakened Tajikistan s legitimate economy and left many people to rely on the revenues of illicit opiate trade . Tajikistan is slowly recovering from the effects of becoming a new nation, plagued with war and drugproblems early in its life, and this requires the government to find a way to end the drug usage and distribution problem that grips the country along with the corruption of the state in an attempt to improve the economy and living conditions of Tajikistan. There are many contributing factors to the perfect storm of sorts that lead to the rapid increase in Tajikistan s status as a drug state. One of the most important of these is the proximity of Tajikistan to Afghanistan. This proximity allowed for Afghanistan to take advantage of Tajikistan in the midst of civil unrest giving the people of the poverty stricken economy an easy way to make quick money. This was made easier for Afghanistan by Tajikistan s lack of border regulations, allowing drugs to easily be transferred between the two countries. Robert Dale Parker (2009), in his paper Contemporary Anticolonialist Reading and the Collaborative Writing of Jane Johnston Schoolcraft, describes her controversial writings as representing the cacophonous medley of internal contradictions that she lived in (p.52). Specifically, that of her poem Pensive Hours, which exhibits the layered nature of her works, shown through her Anglo American heritage (with an emphasis towards Christian) tones hidden alongside her native spirituality, establishes Jane Johnston Schoolcraft as an American poet influenced by more than English Romanticism. Michelle Esther Alexander Fankhauser (2010), identifies Schoolcraft s dual influential environment, in her paper Booked: Womanhood is too Tightly Bound to Give Me Scope which asserts, Schoolcraft s choice of poetryas a genre meant to be read and heard out loud is an indicator that even when working within a literate tradition, her upbringing in an oral one was never far from her mind (p. 52 53). Schoolcraft, much like many of the early American Renaissance writers, were unable to write in isolation and consequently their works were inadequate in their entirety to be exclusively romantic pieces of literature (Parker 2009).
