Sanctions and helping our pupils move
on!
Key Message: The association between parental involvement and a child’s academic
success is well-established, and at West Hatch we’ve always been fortunate to work
with families who work in partnership with us and support us in holding the line for
undesirable behaviours so their child can achieve success and reach their potential.
o At West Hatch, we believe that excellent behaviour is not only a prerequisite for
exceptional progress, but that it is an entitlement for all students to have access to
learning that is uninhibited by poor behaviour. What can you expect if a pupil
disrupts your child’s lesson?
o We expect every student will commit to being a positively contributing member of
our community by embodying the West Hatch values and following our rules and
expectations of their behaviour. What can you expect if a pupils has been unkind
to your child?
o We appreciate that from time to time some people might get things wrong and we
value the support of parents to work with us so that your child is able to repair and
restore their relationships with staff. Detentions are an integral part of our
discipline system, not only to promote excellent behaviour at the school and thus
secure the learning and safety of all members of our community, but to also deliver
a clear message to our pupils that unacceptable behaviour that breaches our
behaviour policy, will not be tolerated and will be sanctioned accordingly. Non-
attendance is perceived as a pupil failing to take responsibility for their behaviour

  • 23. Sanctions and helping our pupils move on! Key Message: The association between parental involvement and a child’s academic success is well-established, and at West Hatch we’ve always been fortunate to work with families who work in partnership with us and support us in holding the line for undesirable behaviours so their child can achieve success and reach their potential. o At West Hatch, we believe that excellent behaviour is not only a prerequisite for exceptional progress, but that it is an entitlement for all students to have access to learning that is uninhibited by poor behaviour. What can you expect if a pupil disrupts your child’s lesson? o We expect every student will commit to being a positively contributing member of our community by embodying the West Hatch values and following our rules and expectations of their behaviour. What can you expect if a pupils has been unkind to your child? o We appreciate that from time to time some people might get things wrong and we value the support of parents to work with us so that your child is able to repair and restore their relationships with staff. Detentions are an integral part of our discipline system, not only to promote excellent behaviour at the school and thus secure the learning and safety of all members of our community, but to also deliver a clear message to our pupils that unacceptable behaviour that breaches our behaviour policy, will not be tolerated and will be sanctioned accordingly. Non- attendance is perceived as a pupil failing to take responsibility for their behaviour West Hatch values • To be determined and persevere • To be respectful • To be responsible • To be considerate • To be proud • To be ready to achieve
