This document summarizes a study examining trends in rural newspapers and how they may differ from national trends. The study hypothesized that rural newspapers would be less impacted by factors like online competition and decreased revenues due to their remote locations and limited broadband access insulating them. The methodology involved surveying editors and publishers of rural newspapers. Preliminary results showed differences in readership, staffing, wire service usage, and online accessibility compared to national trends potentially supporting the hypothesis that rural newspaper trends differ from national trends.
