This document outlines challenges immigrants face in meeting their information needs and how public libraries can help. It presents a case study of an immigrant interview where they discussed settlement challenges, finding information, and integrating into Canadian society. Their experience using the library was also examined. The conclusion recommends libraries be aware of immigrants' diverse backgrounds and needs, and make the first library experience a successful one.

Editor's Notes
Since 1991 there are 250000 immigrants arriving in Canada every year .
This Study will outline the opportunities and challenges of immigrants toward the service information they are dealing with since their arrival , particularly how to use public libraries an important source of information and support to them throughout the different stages of settlement . To Answer these questions , I will analyze a case study of a new immigrant to Canada.
PLs play a crucial role in providing immigrants with information they need to settle and adjust to their new environment. Fisher, Durance, and Hinton (2004), identified four main steps immigrants are required to do in order to incorporate libraries into their daily lives. The immigrants must (1) find the library and experience its trustful environment to accommodate information based needs, (2) know which resources are available and learn the skills needed to use libraries to access information, (3) increase awareness of family and friends about benefits of libraries, and (4) learn to trust library staff
information professionals need to be aware what immigrants know, how they know it and how they search for it (Caidi & Allard, 2005).
This case study has to do with the analysis of information needs of a newcomer to Montréal. To understand the information needs of a newcomer, this study structures and conducts an in-depth interview, and offers a qualitative analysis.
The interview focuses on settlement experience, barriers in integration and challenges of a new immigrant who came to Montreal. The participant was asked about his experiences since
arriving to Canada, the challenges he faced during integration, and the ways in which he sought, used and shared information during his settlement.
It is important that imigrants know abot the library services available to them . Any actions orianted to imrove…… / to benefit both sides
All in all, nowadays libraries in Canada should contribute to streghthening of immigrants’integration in the society, with their new policies and understanding their user needs and predict their future barriers.
