3. Cause and Effects
You are going to be presented with 5 sub headings. Please use these sub heading in your
work.
For each effect you are going to be asked to describe the cause. This must relate to nutrition
and specific foods. For example: The cause of obesity is eating too much processed foods
that are high in saturated fats and sugars. Such as, crisps, chocolate, takeaways.
For each heading you are also going to be asked to describe the effect it can have on the
body. This must relate to physical effects. For example, obesity can affect an individual by
making them gain weight, development joint and muscle pain. Also an induvial is much more
likely to experiences breathing and heart problems.

Vitamin deficiency: Remember a deficiency is when someone is not eating enough of something
Vitamin A, e.g. night blindness, impaired maintenance and repair of skin, mucus membranes,
accelerated ageing
Vitamin B, e.g. beriberi
Vitamin C, e.g. scurvy
Vitamin D, e.g. rickets, bone loss-osteoporosis, low blood calcium, brittle bones, impaired tooth
formation
Vitamin E, e.g. lethargy, apathy, muscle weakness
Vitamin K, e.g. impaired blood clotting
