New Hampshire is located in New England between Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, and the Atlantic Ocean. It was initially colonized along the Connecticut River and has over 40,000 miles of rivers and streams. The highest point is Mount Washington. It was first settled in the early 1600s as a fishing colony but was later colonized by Captain John Mason who sought its natural resources like fish, trees, and beavers. New Hampshire has played an important role in the American Revolution and new nation as the first state to declare independence from Britain.
