NeuroTouch is a physics-based virtual simulator developed for cranial microneurosurgery training. It was created by a team of over 50 experts in collaboration with neurosurgeons from teaching hospitals across Canada. NeuroTouch aims to help train technical skills through tasks using 3D graphics, haptic feedback, and various surgical tools. Prototypes have been set up in 7 hospitals for beta testing and evaluation for integration into neurosurgery curriculums.

Objectives: We hypothesized that sleep deprivation, caffeine intake, and alcohol consumption the night prior to simulated microneurosurgery may impact performance on a virtual reality neurosurgical simulator.Patients and Methods: After IRB approval, trainees practiced a simulated bimanual arachnoid dissection microsurgical task on the NeuroTouch Neurosurgical simulator (National Research Council, Canada) until it was mastered. For each participant, the task was repeated several times following sleep deprivation, caffeine intake and the morning after a social gathering where blood alcohol content (BAC) was measured. Each time the task was performed, the participants documented variables on a questionnaire. Performance metrics included: task duration, left or right hand excessive force, number of incorrect or correct fibers cut, and overall score based on several measurements.

In current biometric security systems using images for security authentication, finger vein-based systems are getting special attention in particular attributable to the facts such as insurance of data confidentiality and higher accuracy. Previous studies were mostly based on finger-print, palm vein etc. however, due to being more secure than fingerprint system and due to the fact that each person's finger vein is different from others finger vein are impossible to use to do forgery as veins reside under the skin. The system that we worked on functions by recognizing vein patterns from images of fingers which are captured using near Infrared(NIR) technology. Due to the lack of an available database, we created and used our own dataset which was pre-trained using transfer learning of AlexNet model and verification is done by applying correct as well as incorrect test images. The result of deep convolutional neural network (CNN) based several experimental results are shown with training accuracy, training loss, Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) Curve and Area Under the Curve (AUC).

The paradigm of embedding computing devices in our surrounding environment has gained more interest
in recent days. Along with contemporary technology comes challenges, the most important being the
security and privacy aspect. Keeping the aspect of compactness and memory constraints of pervasive
devices in mind, the biometric techniques proposed for identification should be robust and dynamic. In this
work, we propose an emerging scheme that is based on few exclusive human traits and characteristics
termed as ocular biometrics, promising utmost security and reliability. Complex iris recognition and
retinal scanning algorithms have been discussed which promises achievement of accurate results. The
performance and vast applications of these algorithms on pervasive computing devices is also addressed.

AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).
