Ideas to Address Profiles for Technology Literate Students By : Liz O’Brien Intro to Nets for Students Grade Level 9-12 (Ages 14-18)
1. Design, develop, and test a digital learning game to demonstrate knowledge and skills related to curriculum content. (1, 4) I think it would be great for students to create a crossword puzzle in excel using key vocabulary words related to a certain topic covered in class. The students can build the puzzles in collaborative groups by coming up with a clue for each word. Once the group completes their puzzle, each one can be handed out for a different group to try.
Create and publish an online art gallery with examples and commentary that demonstrate an understanding of different historical periods, cultures, and countries. (1,2) Students can create an online plant guidebook by drawing pictures of different plant species and then scanning them into the computer. Once the pictures are scanned, the students can then use Prezi to create a presentation with a caption about each plant.
Identify a complex global issue, develop a systematic plan of investigation, and present innovative sustainable solutions. (1,2,3,4) Using a video camera students can document how pollution impacts the environment in their community. They can then upload the footage into iMovie and create a film about solutions to prevent future pollution.
Analyze the capabilities and limitations of current and emerging technology resources and assess their potential to address personal, social, lifelong learning, and career needs. (4,5,6) Each student can create a blog for the class to communicate any questions or ideas they may have about assignments. Each post helps to keep everyone on task and socially connected. They can also embed projects done in class on the blog to create a digital portfolio to showcase their work for the future.
