This document discusses a study comparing how urban and suburban 4th and 5th grade children learn and use digital literacies. The study found that urban children had much less experience using computers at school and knew fewer skills like proper keyboarding. In contrast, suburban schools integrated technology into lessons more and students had greater access to computers at home. The results suggest urban students are at a disadvantage for learning important new literacies due to less instructional time spent on computers and digital skills.
