January 2014 – Present Edge Technology: Solution Architect
Infrastructure Engineer
Edge technology is a boutique consultancy offering a full lifecycle of services making it a global IT leader primarily focused
on the financial industry.
Between January 2014 – March 2016 my role was Infrastructure engineer, performing day to day 3rd line support to clients
and in house. I was heavily involved in design work for the internal setup of Edge, Edge cloud platformand clients. With
this and a show of strong technology skills, I was promoted into a Solution Architect role. This role’s primary focus is
twofold.
• Design, Document and implement large scale client projects
• Design, Document and implement a new cloud platformfor edge
Currently my main achievements at edge are:
• Part automated the client on boarding from a systems perspective. Domain controller, Exchange server, file
and print server. This automation also includes configuring and installing of all components used within the
default setup. This reduced the on-boarding time from 1 week to 1 day of engineering time. Started working
on a fully automation that will be a one click deployment for theseon boarding further reducing the
engineering time.
• Redesigned the cloud platform, moving to separatethe Edge internal domain from its cloud platform domain.
Adding security to all customers and Edge, itself.
• Moving services to a Shared services model reducing the support overhead. Consolidating software into a
shared services platformcreating a single pane of glass for monitoring and management.
• Planning, designing and implementing VMware 6.0 around the globe again taking advantage of the
distributed technology consolidating the view of the cloud platforminto a single workspacefor the edge
cloud.
• Migrated clients and shifted the focus of this to Mimecast due to issues with other 3rd party mail filtering
products;Reducing support cases, outages and lowering deployment time.
• Designed and demonstrated the new remote desktop solution to be used via Citrix for all technicians working
on clients and cloud servers.
• Recommended a new SAN solution to Edge to improve performance, cost and management utilising Nimble.
This is now globally used as the preferred storage solution for all our sites.
• Create, maintain and develop PowerShell scripts and new technology to continually enhance the edge cloud
platform, reduce overhead/engineering time and improve current services.
• Final port of call for all escalations that cannot be solved by other teams globally. Working with the global
committee to design and deliver the new cloud initiatives, to continually keep edge ahead of the curve.
• Client Projects
 Infrastructureupgrade design, planning and implementation: Working with a client has to move
their infrastructure to the latest levels, this work includes Active Directory, Servers, Exchange and
third party products. Creatinga design document, a plan of action document and hand over
documents.
 Design, implement and document a global Citrix deployment to allow a client to run their CMS
solution in the remote datacentre.
 Auditing prospectiveclients’ estates creating detailed report and suggestions of what should be
done to improve, secure and updatewhile transitioning to Edge.
 Designed, implemented, documented and manage a large virtual hedge fund platformincubator.
The client required all customers to be delivered a virtual desktop with a staticlist of applications.
These customers would share an Active directory and email server but function as individual
customers with security boundaries. Thedesign utilises VMwareHorizon and NVidia grid cards to
keep up with the demand of a day trader. This solution was also later implemented in theUS.

July 2011 – January 2014 Robert Walters: Infrastructure Engineer
Environment and Storage Specialist
Between July 2011 – April2012 my role was Environment & Storage Specialist. This was broadened to Infrastructure
engineer to recognise my involvement in the full range of Infrastructure project work.
Robert Walters are a leading international recruitment company active in 23 countries. The EMEAA regional team globally,
of which 1,300 covers supporting2500+ users. Supportingserver 2003, 2008, 2008R2, Edgesight, XenApp 5.5, SQL 2008,
ISA, and other technologies. Utilising a full thin client based solution.
 Manage and maintain Robert Walters SAN’s located in two datacenters with full replication allowing for DR and high
availability.
o Design, configured, Implemented and documented a new SAN environment utilising Nimble storage SAN.
 Designed, implemented, documented and maintain RODC’s across EMEAA. Currently RW have utilised the RODC (In
a DMZ) for external AD authentication with Mimecast.
 Designed, implemented, documented and maintain EMEAA monitoring solution using Nagios
 Implemented and manage AD delegation to limit access and make suresupport personnel can function within their remit.
 Creating, planning and testing Technical Action Plans for disaster recovery
o One of theseDR strategies was employed during a real incident, verifying thestrategy and its improvements to
RW’s process.
 Datacentre move, primarily responsible for the moving of Compellent SAN and reconfiguration at the new Datacentre
 Planned, maintained and implemented major domain upgrade work to move all domain controllers from 2003 to 2008
R2. Responsible for EMEAA region and collaborated with our APAC region.
 Designed, implemented documented and maintained EMEAA DNS/DHCP design.
 Worked on federated services for Robert Walters Office 365 deployment.
 Redesign and manage certificate services for the Robert Walters estate.
 Evaluated and recommended where server 2012 would improve service to end users.
 Plan, test and executed a major file migration of business critical data of over 3TB from internal Compellent storage to
Robert Walter’s NetApp devices located in RW datacentres. RW currently have two datacentres each with a dedicated
NetApp device and Compellent SAN. The NetApp devices are maintained by Control Circle and the Compellent SAN
maintained by RW. Control Circle take configuration instructions from RW.
 Designed, evaluated and implemented monitoring and reporting of Robert Walters Citrix environment using EdgeSight
including creating custom reports using SQL Language and SQL report builder
 Designed, evaluated and implemented AWS automation for cloud based services including an on demand development
testing sand pit.
 Designed and implemented a new automation service using MDT 2010 to replace legacy Ghost imaging.
 Designed and implemented and maintain SQL Server 2008 database services
 Maintain, configure and manage EMEA storage solution on Compellent, EMEA ISA Solution, EMEAA DNS, EMAA
DFA and EMEAA Active directory
 Designed and implemented load testing of Robert Walters Citrix environment using EdgeSight for Load testing
