The nomenclature of natural products is a highly specialized field of biochemistry. Fortunately, some classes of natural products are more amenable to computer analysis than others. Non-ribosomal peptides and heavily post-translationally modified peptides, such as derivatives of the homodetic cycles gramicidin S and the cyclic depsi-peptide valinomycin and the natural product cyclic isopeptides anantin and sungsanpin push the current state-of-the-art in automated natural product naming. Where a compound is structurally related to an existing peptide, perceiving this relationship is required for generating succinct human understandable names. In this talk, we describe the use of databases/dictionaries based upon HELM notation and IUPAC's condensed line notations for specifying 'parent' peptides from which derivatives and analogues can be named. Using the described techniques the name '[5-L-valine]dichotomin C' may be assigned to the cyclic peptide CHEMBL478596. These techniques have been successfully used to identify and correct naming issues in the UniProt and IUPhar/BPS guide to pharmacology databases, which have then been updated by their curators.

Robert Raikes witnessed the poor conditions of children in Gloucester, England in the late 18th century due to the Industrial Revolution. This inspired him to create the first Sunday school to educate and reform street children. The Sunday school used the Bible as its textbook and proved hugely successful in improving behavior and civic responsibility. Raikes' idea then spread across Britain and to other parts of Europe and America, revolutionizing religious education of children and community outreach efforts of churches. Late in life, Raikes had a profound spiritual experience witnessing a young girl reading the Bible that gave him a new understanding of faith.

The nomenclature of natural products is a highly specialized field of biochemistry. Fortunately, some classes of natural products are more amenable to computer analysis than others. Non-ribosomal peptides and heavily post-translationally modified peptides, such as derivatives of the homodetic cycles gramicidin S and the cyclic depsi-peptide valinomycin and the natural product cyclic isopeptides anantin and sungsanpin push the current state-of-the-art in automated natural product naming. Where a compound is structurally related to an existing peptide, perceiving this relationship is required for generating succinct human understandable names. In this talk, we describe the use of databases/dictionaries based upon HELM notation and IUPAC's condensed line notations for specifying 'parent' peptides from which derivatives and analogues can be named. Using the described techniques the name '[5-L-valine]dichotomin C' may be assigned to the cyclic peptide CHEMBL478596. These techniques have been successfully used to identify and correct naming issues in the UniProt and IUPhar/BPS guide to pharmacology databases, which have then been updated by their curators.

What is the ultimate measure of our effectiveness as educators? Perhaps it is enrollment growth at our institution. Maybe it is retention rates of students. Could it be graduation rates of cohorts? Possibly it is average scores on major field tests. While all of those are worthwhile metrics to measure, consider employer satisfaction with our graduates as a key performance indicator of our effectiveness.
Internal metrics are absolutely important to utilize as we continually improve our programs. But ultimately graduating students is not the goal, it is merely a means to an end. The ultimate goal is to develop students who possess the attributes, knowledge and skills to be a professional in their chosen field.
Is your institution/program measuring employer satisfaction with your graduates? Is there dialogue taking place between persons serving on curriculum development committees and employers about the competencies needed in the workforce?
Dr. Mac Adkins has an uncommon perspective as both an educator and employer. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Auburn University, has served as a Dean at a state institution and a private, for-profit institution, and has taught on-campus and online for the past twenty years at Troy University, Capella University, Amridge University and the International Distance Education Certification Center. In addition to that academic background for fourteen years he has served as the CEO and Founder of SmarterServices which provides assessment services to over 500 colleges and universities. He has served on curriculum development committees at the program level as well as the state level as he was one of the authors of the Alabama Course of Study in Technology Education.
In this presentation Dr. Adkins will share his combined perspective from higher education and corporation leadership. This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
