Haitian art is distinct, unique, vibrant and is an expression of their lives.
3. Haitian Art Taino Indians, indigenous to the Island, painted colorful symbols on themselves and on the cave walls. During French/Spanish occupation, painters were referred to as “talented negroes”. Centre de Art was established in the 1930’s to celebrate the growing number of rising artists in the area. Now, different schools of art exist for various types of depiction, each unique to their environment.
4. Haitian Art Haitian sculpture and flag making are also a celebrated form of Haitian Art. Sculptures tend to be made from recycled materials, mainly oil drums are colorful and beautiful.
