These resources constitute the main source for food, medicine and cosmetic production. -They constitute also the biological basis of food security and the equilibrium of ecosystems. - In spite of its small size, Tunisia is a reservoir of biodiversity whish shall be maintained and sustainably used for the next generations - In this context, the National Gene Bank of Tunisia (NGBT) was created in 2007. - 4. The National Gene Bank was created by Order No. 1748 in 2003, as a public institution and it really started in 2007. Its mission is: --to collect, to conserve and evaluate the national collection of genetic resources (GR), especially those who are threatened with extinction --to carry back the genetic resources from the other national institutions and from foreign banks (repatriation) --to valorize them in a sustainable manner, Mission of the National Gene BankMission of the National Gene Bank
