Analysis Of The Secretary Of Labor V Performance...
It is alarming to know that each year there are over 4,500 scaffold injuries and 65 deaths
(Occupational Safety and Health Administration [OSHA], 2016). In addition, there is a high risk
for construction workers to be struck from objects falling off scaffolds. With these facts in mind,
the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission s (OSHRC) 2013 case of the Secretary
of Labor v Performance Contracting, Inc. (PCI) raises questions as to why violations of OSHA
s scaffold standards are sometimes considered other than serious. Understanding that OSHA
gives the Secretary of Labor the tasks of rulemaking and enforcement of its rules, it also gives
the task of carrying out the legal process to the commission which both parties accepted, as well
as PCI engaging as a business affecting interstate commerce (Secretary of Labor v. PCI, 2013,
pp. 2 3). Knowledge of the case s background, parties involved, arguments presented, cases used
to reach a verdict, and final ruling provide insight to the penalties assessed, significance, and
personal opinion. As detailed in OSHRC s Docket No. 11 3095, a trial was held in the case of the
Secretary of Labor, the plaintiff, v PCI, the defendant, on February 28, 2013 in Portland, Oregon
before the Administrative Law Judge Patrick B. Augustine. According to court documents, PCI was
hired by general contractor, Penta, to do installation work at the Indian Head casino. Since PCI
needed scaffolds, the company hired Scaffold Erectors

Essay about Pros and Cons of the Private Insurance Industry
1. Introduction
Extreme weathers, such as storm, floods, heat waves, drought, glacial retreat, have suffered human
being and threaten the life, properties and economies for a long time. In recent years, a significant
increase is observed in the extreme weathers, such as the number of heavy precipitation events,
more intense and longer drought/heat waves as a consequence of anthropogenic influences (IPCC,
2011). In particular, intensification of extreme precipitation is likely to lead extreme coastal high
water associated with an increase in mean sea level. On the other hand, there might be positive
results from global warming, such as improved agriculture in some high latitude regions
(Mendelsohn, 2006), but economic losses from weather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay focuses on the impacts and challenges of private insurance industry in growing weather
and climate related disasters. Unsurprisingly, private insurance would avoid the financial loss and
withdraw its coverage of vulnerable areas. However, insurance mechanism can bring various
benefits in terms of loss and damage associated with natural disasters and increasing efforts for
equity in the industry in the world. I shall illustrate the benefits of insurance mechanism and a wide
range of activities that the industry has worked on, and the potential of a contribution to the
international aid programme as a challenge in the future.
2. Insurance mechanism
What is insurance?
There are a wide range of surrounding risks in activities for individual and companies, such as
government finance regulations, ISO certification, IT security, compliance, increasing in natural
disasters and infectious diseases, and so on. A failure of the risk managementcould cause a huge
financial loss, a bankrupt or a degradation in the reliability. Therefore, the world has invented
various risk management mechanisms. There are three main existing risk management schemes to
guarantee to meet specified costs for individual, companies or organizations (Freeman and
Kunreuther, 1997). One of the schemes is government benefit program. Damaged citizens or
companies are benefited by the local council or government financially. While it provides

The Ballad Of Mulan And Mui Slays The Serpent
In the two stories The Ballad of Mulan and Chi Li Slays the Serpent two young girls living in
Ancient China defy all odds and go against the gender barriers. Mulan and Chi Li are two different
women living in different parts of China, however, they both have similar feelings about the way
they should handle difficult tasks. On the contrary, Mulan is a secretive young girl, while Chi Li is
honest. Both womenreveal their true colors when they step out of their traditional role in society
and take on the role of a man.
Chi Li and Mulan both value bravery and their families well being. Chi Li and Mulan both take
risks and forget about fear, as they take on challenges that could end with their death. When Chi
Li says, Poor girls! ... The monster conquered you because you were too timid to put up a fight!
How pitiful! it shows her value because she s making fun of the girls who weren t brave enough
to fight the serpent. Chi Li frowns upon this as she values bravery and these girls were too
proper to retaliate. Although nobody has ever been able to slay the serpent, Chi Li defies all
odds and does so because of her courage. As for Mulan, even the small action of when she buys a
spirited horse, ... she buys a saddle ... she buys a bridle .... she buys a long whip. shows bravery
because she had to sneak around her town without anyone seeing her. If anybody saw her, they
would realize what she was doing and her parents would have found on immediately. Her bravery
overcame the feelings of fear she may have felt, and she stayed strong and fought for twelve years.
Both women were brave as an attempt to care for their parents and their families. Even though
fighting a serpent and fighting in a battle may have been risky, the two women fought their hardest
for the benefit of their families. The two women were courageous because they faced danger and
overcame it, even though this might have been difficult. Both women value bravery and family
matters because of their fearless mind sets.
Chi Li values honesty while Mulan values secrecy. When Chi Li says to her parents, Father and
Mother, I want you to know that I have decided to place myself into the hands of the county
authorities and to volunteer to

George W Bush Speech Analysis
The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers that took place on 11 September 2001 will never
be forgotten among American citizens. The complete destruction of the Twin Towers and the
massive death toll of the attacks left the United States in a widespread panic. On 14 September
2001, President George W. Bushstepped up and delivered a speech later titled the Remarks at the
National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Service. President Bush proved that he was the leader
that the United Statesneeded at this extremely difficult time. Bush delivered this speech to his
fellow Americans in an attempt to calm the panicking nation. President George W. Bush
achieved his purpose through the speech s structure, his word choice, and his use of the
rhetorical devices of anaphora and repetition. The structure of President Bush s speech was a
crucial aspect in getting his points across to his fellow Americans. At the beginning of the speech,
Bush addresses the events that occurred three days earlier. He does not ignore the great losses of
the country or what the country is feeling. Instead, Bush acknowledges the types of casualties and
offers sympathy to the Americans that are suffering in the second paragraph. Bush focuses on the
negatives of September 11 and gets those sorrowful topics out of the way early when he says, War
has been waged against us by stealth and deceit and murder (Par. 3). In the middle of the speech,
Bush focuses on God and the strength of the United

The Eighties
The nineteen eighties were the most important and remembered decades; Ronald Reagan, MTV,
cliques, fashion icons and Blockbuster. High school was different than today. The Breakfast Club
(1985) by John Hughes was the most iconic movie to sum up the eighties; a movie delving into
the different stereotypes and stigma of mental illness and bullying, in high school. Adolescence
was the time of transition between childhood and adulthood; it is a time for sense of identity.
(Chronological Description) For example, there were many labels used on the students by others.
(Exemplification) There was the jock, rich girl, geek, outcast, and the rebel. (Objective
Description) In the end it had also showed that perspective stereotypes do not matter. The clothing
was represented on what was worn in the eighties, in which the trend is slowly coming back into
style. The Breakfast Club best describes this era because of how the students labeled each other,
disrespected one another, and by the way they dressed. During and after the 1980 presidential
election, the Reagan Democrats provided millions of crucial votes for the Republican candidate,
Ronald Reagan.( Morning in America,16) He won 51 percent of the vote; once a Hollywood actor,
his outwardly reassuring disposition and optimistic style appealed to many Americans. (Ethos) His
campaign cast a wide net, big tax cuts and a smaller government.

in 1909. Although Ida B. Wells was one of the founding members of the
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People(NAACP), she was also among the

Humbert s The Hotel Mirana
At one of the darkest moments in Lolita, after Humbert s outburst of rage and violence toward
Lolita, the name of his father s hotel appears, causing Humbert to interrupt the description of his
and Lolita s sensual reconciliation with a parenthetical exclamation (Mirana!) (227). This decision
might strike the reader as strange due to its emphasis of a seemingly irrelevant detail. However, the
influence of Humbert s childhood home on his life in America is significant, though often subtle. In
the midst of the darkness of his remorse, hopelessness, and sobbing atonement after striking Lolita,
the two of them happen to stay at a motelof the same title as the HotelMirana. The name of the
Mirana generates a flash of light that offers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At a hobby museum in Mississippi, Humbert finds a collection of European hotel picture post
cards that happens to contain a photograph of the Mirana (155). While every other mention of
the Mirana is found in Humbert s mind or narration, subject to his fantasies and potentially faulty
memory, the idea of a photograph suggests a real world representation of the original, unaltered
Mirana Hotel. However, the colored photo is less authentic than it seems at first. The word
colored indicates an editing of the original photo (it didn t originate as a color photo ), and the
photo depicts retouched palm trees ; already, the credibility of this photograph is in doubt. In
addition, Humbert only gives a few details about the hotel in the picture: it has striped awnings
and a flag flying above the aforementioned palm trees. The combination of the editing of the photo
and this generic description casts doubt on its authenticity is it even the Mirana? Humbert s hot
wave of pride is no clear indication of the photo s validity; his mental perception of and fascination
with the Mirana is so strong that he could be projecting his unreal fantasy onto a photograph of
another European hotel. Though at first it has an intrinsic legitimacy, the photograph s accuracy is
quickly subverted and eroded by Humbert s distortion of reality. As a result, the

Pennsylvania Dutch Word Hex
The word hex can be used as either a verb or noun. The verb hex means to bewitch or to practice
witchcraft on . As a noun, the word can refer to a spell, a charm or a witch. Etymologically, the
word hex began as an American English concept in 1830. It originated with the Pennsylvania
Dutch, who immigrated to this country from Germany in the 18th century. The word is from
Pennsylvania German hexe, which means to practice witchcraft . Hexe comes from the German
word hexen to hex and the word Hexe which means witch . It is related to the Old High German
hagzissa and Middle English hagge, the root of our word hag which is often associated with
witches. The Pennsylvania Dutch emigrated from Germany and Switzerland in several waves and

It is whatever the practitioner puts into the hex. By insinuating that a hex is evil, as is
commonly believed, we are perpetuating misinformation. It s important to understand how this
form of manipulative magick works so a practitioner will understand the need for prudence when
working with hexes. For my definition of hex in the assignment Off the Top of Your Head , I
defined a hex as a spell cast that intends either positive or negative outcome????? I don t know on
this one? . Obviously I had much learning to do of this term. While it s true that it could have
either a positive or negative outcome, one should strive for positive, always weighing possible
outcomes. I did not realize that it was a form of manipulative magick, nor had I ever heard of
that, but it makes sense. I had always seen hexes portrayed, especially by Hollywood, as
something evil or bad. To summarize, hexes are not by nature something evil. They have been
given a bad reputation by the uninformed. They are a form of manipulative magick that can be
used in a beneficial way, especially to prevent someone from causing harm to themselves or others.
The word hex originated with the Pennsylvania Dutch who use their own form of magick both
symbolically in their hex signs and as part of Pow wow

Analysis Of Firstlife
Firstlife is a fantasy novel similar to our world where there are two after life s: two heavens and
one hell. Gena Showalter has built a world which lets her show us a side to the human mind
which we don t look at very often. This twisting and turning plot shows how quickly a person s
point of view can change when we learn something we didn t know before. Characters are stuck in
a world where there next life will be decided on which heaventhey chose sign their allegiance to,
and they are polar opposites of each others. Since this is a fantasy world there are some big
differences with it from the one we live in currently. While it has its similarities there are some
major differences with it and ours. Starting with the biggest differencethere are three after lifes: the
Troikarealm, the Myriad realm and the Realm of Many Ends. Currently people today have no
idea what happens when we die. Many religions have many different ways that our lives end.
These versions are some variation on hell and heaven to varying degrees, others believe there is
nothing or that our spirits haunt the world of the living. In Firstlife, the first realm that people
can go to is Troika. This is a realm where the sun never stops shining. This realm is devoted to
helping others and bringing truth to the unknowing. Valuing the human s life and the right to
choose, even if it means that they will be harmed by this choice. Humans who chose to sing with
them are offered the same as the next person, no exceptions. They create family with each new
member added to their rank. There motto being Light Brings Sight! (9). Myriad on the other
hand is almost the exact opposite. This is a realm where the night never comes to a stop. When
they aren t indulging themselves the work hard to accomplish what task they are give. While
Troika give a set deal for everyone no matter who you are, Myriad are willing to talk to see what
they can offer you in the first life as well as the afterlife. The more you want the more you can get
because to them, Might Equals Right! (17). The Realm of Many Ends was a realm originally
created for criminals but eventually became the place where those who are unsigned went. This
realm is basically the hell of this

Literary Devices Used In The Book Thief
Words can light fires in the minds of men (Patrick Rothfuss). Author, Markus Zusak, in his novel
The Book Thief, narrates as Death to show the story of Liesel Meminger, a girl living in World
War Two Nazi Germany. Zusak uses literary devices to depict a theme of how words can change
the world in order to show their effect on people.
First, Markus Zusak uses metaphors help enhance the theme to the reader. Zusak uses a Word
Shakers as a metaphor for people like Liesel, who use words to influence people in various ways.
The best Word Shakers were the ones who understood the true power of words... (Zusak 446). In
this part, the narrator, Death, is speaking of Liesel and people like her, calling them Word Shakers.

Zusak alludes to the many book burnings that took place in Nazi Germany to show what people
thought of words, and how powerful they really are. Nazi s were gathering fuel... Liesel was
witness to men and women knocking on doors, asking people if they had material that they felt
should be done away with or destroyed (Zusak 101). This is when people come knocking on
doors, asking for books they deemed un German to burn in a large bonfire that night. Zusak
alludes to this event to show how Germany thought of words and what they did to the mind.
Zusak uses an allusion to Adolf Hitler himself to show how powerful his words were to the
citizens of Germany and how they influenced them. Without words, the Fuhrer was nothing
(Zusak 521). Here, the narrator Death is speaking about Hitler and that if he never spoke those
words he did, if he never rose to power, the world wouldn t be the way it is. Zusak does this to
show words, even when negatively used, can change people and what they do. Zusak uses an
allusion to Adolf Hitler s own novel Mein Kompf to show the Nazi governments drilled words
into the citizen s heads through the book. In return, he received a used copy of Mein Kompf
(Zusak 128). In this scene, people hand a copy of Mein Kompf to Hans, like they do to all citizens,
to attempt bringing him in deeper to

The Lego Case Study
In 2014, LEGO announced record results. In the financial year 2013, the company revenues had
increased by 10% to 25.4 billion DKK (Annual Report). Profits before tax were 8.2 billion DKK
representing a net income of 24% while operating margins were at a staggering 32.8% (Annual
Report). However, the company s future had not always looked so promising. When Jorgen Vig
Knudstrop stepped in as CEO in 2003, he described the then financial state of the company as a
burning platform which generated negative cash flows that would lead to its eventual collapse
(Ashcroft 3). Sadly, his portrayal was not that far from the truth. Throughout the early 2000s, the
company was facing losses of ~1 billion DKK yearly and was falling behind it competitors, Mattel
and Hasboro (Annual Report). So how did LEGO turn itself around in a short span of 8 years? ...

bricks however between 1997 and 2004, LEGO stretched its product lines to include movies,
clothing, video gaming and event theme parks. Unfortunately, these activities generated limited
returns and were capital intensive as a result, LEGO s bottom line plummeted. LEGO strayed too
far from its core business of manufacturing building blocks and ventured in industries which it no
knowledge or specific skills sets to compete in ( Fun and Games: The LEGO Success Story 2).
Also, a lack of financial and product profitability analysis meant that management had no idea
which products were making money and which were not producing adequate returns on investment.
Another problem was that retailers were constantly overstocked with products which offered
diminishing margins as clearance offers ensued (Ashcroft 14). This was due to a lack of

Compare And Contrast Galileo And Paine
Language has been an important part of an individual s life in order to communicate and understand
one another. However, Bacon, Galileo and Paine believe that language beyond the means of
communication can hinder our own understanding as sometimes can be. Language has fooled the
human mind to understanding the world without the idea of reasoning and rational thinking. In
Bacon s Novum Organum, especially in the Idols of the Market, he talks about how languagecan
create confusion rather than understanding through the random use of words. Nothing only does
words create confusion but lead mankind into vain and innumerable controversies and fallacies
(34). Man is unable to form specific words because of the lack of attention to nature and the usage
of words that is difficult to define in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He points out in his Letter to Christina of Tuscany that words differ by the context of their
meaning especially in the written Scriptures in order to accommodate every population. He argues
that words do not mean what they are out to be and which appear to differ from the absolute truth
so far as the bare meaning of the words is concerned (18). Galileo argues that some of the biblical
passages should not be taken literally because some have different meaning beneath their words.
Lastly, Paine claims in his writing of The Age of Reason, God s message cannot be in language due
to its incapable of interpretation in different languages which prevent others to understand what the
Bible ought to say. This is all done by a revelation which presents a problem on what the word truly
means as something communicated immediately from God to man (162). This inhibits
understanding because not everything is given through first hand experience but rather hearsay
from others. Language rather than giving providing clear understanding, unfortunately brings
confusion that leads to fallacies and

Employment And Wages Of Migrant Workers
Employment and Wages There are an estimated 274 million rural migrant workers in China,
making 36% of total working population and is divided into two categories i) short distance;

regions. The majority of rural migrant workers are employed in low paid jobs in manufacturing,

addition, even with the implementation of ?Labor Contract Law?, in 2014, only 38% of long

Comparing Single And Married Life In The United States
Nowadays, people in the world are more like to be single because they think they can have more
money, freedom, and time for entertainment. During these three decades the average age of
marry is increase in my country. The lives of people who are single differ from who are married
in terms of the amount of money they can make and spend, having freedom, and having
entertainment. First, the lives of single and married people are different in terms of basic life
expenses. Obviously, married people have to spend more money for basic life expenses such as,
housing, insurance, utilities, and foods. On the other hand, Single people spend less money for
these mentioned expenses. Married people can make more money if both couple have a job. In
contrast, single people have to make money by their own. In addition, the lives of single and
married people are different in terms of having the ability to do anything they want. For example,
married people can t do road trip whenever they want because they have to check that with their
spouse at first, while single people can decide to do unplanned trip with their friends. Married
people can t go anywhere they want. For instance, they can t go to bar restaurant after 10 pm. By

Comparison Of Alexander Hamilton And Thomas Jefferson
Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were key Founding Fathers of America who
contributed to its freedom and independence. Both men were influential leaders of their time
whose visions for the future of the country were clearly contrasting. Hamilton believed for a strong
federal government and an economy based on banking. While Jefferson desired for a nation to be
controlled by the states and its people. Their competing visions for the United Statesare still in
debate until this day. Although Jefferson s ideas were significant to America, many of Hamilton s
philosophy still holds in today s government. Alexander Hamiltonwas born in Charlestown, Nevis,

George Washington had recognized Hamilton s leadership abilities and promoted him as Lieutenant
Colonel. He was also an innovator of military design, where he designed reports on the defects and
how there could be improvement in the military. While Hamilton was working as an adviser for
Washington, Hamilton had come to realize the Congress weaknesses, including jealousy between
states, which he believed came from the Articles of Confederation (http://www.ushistory.org/). In
1782, Hamilton was convinced that establishing a strong central government was the key to
achieving America s independence. Alexander Hamilton wanted a national government that had
complete political authority. Although Hamilton did not like state governments and wanted them to
be eliminated, he knew it was not possible. Therefore, he proposed the idea of having the central
government to have the most power, but allow the states to control many of their own rights and
individuality. In collaboration with James Madison and John Jay, Hamilton wrote 51 essays out of
85 essays called The Federalist Papers . These essays explained and defended the new Constitution
prior to its approval and with his effort, nine states agreed to ratify the Constitution. Alexander
Hamilton led the Federalist Party, who believed in a centralized national government with strong
economic roots, unlike Thomas Jefferson, who wanted a limited government. Hamilton also

Marx Point Of View On Class Conflict
According to Marx, this division between classes widens the condition of exploiting workers
that deteriorate so destructively that leads to collapse the social structure: the class struggle is
changed into proletarian revolution. The success of workers reduces basis of class division in
property from public ownership for production means (Archer, 1982, pp. 455 483). On the basis
of this, the classes thus wiped off, the classless society will arise and as the political power protects
bourgeoisie from workers is pointless, and the state and political authority will decline away
(Merton, 1968, pp 56 78). Generally there are six factors in Marx s point of view over class
conflict, these includes:

Marx is supposed to have made scientific discovery in forming the concept of productive forces,
superstructure relations of production, ideologies, social formation (Wright Perrone, 1977, 32 55).
It is nearly impossible to deny that Marx established new perception for analysing the society s
nature, however such ideas are not appropriate with Marx s humanism. Whereas Marx never
rejected the human nature idea, but he did specify that it was both historically and socially
conditioned (Saunders, 2006). Marx interpretation of humanist is an attempt to re establish human

Frog And Toad Essay
The children s book, Frog and Toad Together, might not have challenging language or plot lines,
but it does have life lessons that can apply to real life situations for anyone from children to
adults. In the book, Frog and Toad show the importance of being organized and having a plan.
The first chapter, A List, shows us that life can become far easier when we have a plan for the
future, but be careful not to be too organized. In the second chapter, The Garden, we learn that
persistence is key. The third chapter, Cookies, is all about will power. The fourth chapter, Dragons
and Giants, teaches it s readers not only how to be brave, but that being afraid can be okay too.
You can t have too much of either. The fifth and final chapter, The Dream,

In the chapter, Dragons and Giants, the friends read a book about brave heroes that fight
dragons and giants. They begin to look at themselves in the mirror. I wonder if we are brave,
said Frog (Lobel 42). Many people wish to be brave, but they don t really understand the
meaning of the word. Frog and Toad prove that being brave is not about having no fear, but
rather having fear and conquering it. Together, the pair climbed a tall mountain, faced a snake,
and were chased by a hawk. They ran back to Toad s house and hid under the bed and in the
closet. Although they had fear, they faced them and were brave in the face of adversity. People
often mistake bravery for arrogance in the real world. Someone who is truly brave still has fear
but does not let the fear control them. People that claim they have no fear often tend to be very full

The Role of Sight, Scent, and Sound by the White-tailed Deer
Use and relative role of sight, scent, and sound by white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) to
locate and select between different types of foods
Introduction
The foraging habits of white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus; hereafter deer) have been
extensively researched. Studies have evaluated seasonal influence as well as other environmental
influences on forage selection by deer (Moen 1981, Rogers et al. 1981, McCullough 1985, and
others). However, no such research has ever tested to determine what senses deer use to locate and
select between different food types or the relative importance of each sense involved in that
process. We are missing much of the basic knowledge of physiology and anatomy related to the
sensory capabilities of deer (D Angelo et al. 2006). Information from this type of research is
becoming increasingly important to wildlife biologists, as they can use it to improve other forage
selection studies aimed at reducing crop depredation or other wildlife damage. So little is known
about the role of sight, smell, and sound in deer ability to locate and select between forage types,
therefore quantitative information in this area of research needs further attention (Sayre et al.
1992). By understanding the importance of each sense in the location and selection of different
food types by deer, new studies can be set up that focus on the most important sense, while also
considering what effects the other senses have on their behavior. As

Differences Between Grounded Theory And Narrative Analysis
Grounded theory Is a qualitative approach which calls for simultaneous data collection and analysis
to generate a theory during the research process. A theory emerges inductively through the
systematic data collection and analysis pertaining to a given phenomenon (Strauss Corbin, 1990).
This has two fundamental characteristics which include: theoretical sampling and constant
comparative analysis. A grounded theoryis generated by themes which emerge from the data during
analysis, capturing the essence of meaning drawn from varied contexts and situations
Theoretical sampling, this involves data collection for comparative analysis (Glaser Strauss 1967).
The collected data then gives insights and the analysis leads to further data collection and analysis.

Both approaches are based on naturalistic inquiry. They focus on how people behave in natural
settings while engaging in real life experiences. Both maintain inquiry stems from the naturalistic
paradigm that places itself opposite positivist paradigm.
Both approaches support flexibility in using multiple sources of data. This allows checking the
reliability and validation of a given phenomenon under investigation through triangulation. For
example use of interviews, document review and observation.
Both methods seek themes through coding process. The main of these two approaches is to capture
themes and subthemes which emerge in the process of data collection. All these are backed by
direct quotes from the participants in the study.
In both methods, texts to be coded into themes or categories follow qualitative analysis

Summary Of John Tudor s The Boston Massacre
Tudor, John. The Boston Massacre. March 5, 1770. The diary entry by John Tudor stated that
there had been a brutal massacre on King Street in front of the Customhouse by approximately
eight soldiers. This murder took place under the command of Captain Thomas Preston. The
massacre started by a group of young men that were having a snowball fight, but quickly drew the
attention of many, ending in Captain Thomas Preston commanding his soldiers to shoot. The
diary stated that Lieutenant Governor Hutchinson was going to do everything he could do to get
justice for those killed. Justice Dana and Tudor gave a warrant for Captain Preston to High
Sheriff, which ended with the arrest of Captain Preston and the arrest of the eight soldiers. It was
no longer safe for the troops to be in the town because everyone hates them, so Lieutenant
Governor called for the immediate removal of the troops from the town to Castle William. The
textbook and the diary entry are both similar on how the massacre began, but the textbook states
that the soldiers came to assist White, ending in the soldier being surrounded by the crowd and one
of the soldiers being knocked down. The soldier that was knocked down, got up and fired his
musket according to the textbook, but the diary entry stated that Captain Preston commanded the
soldiers to fire. The textbook does not state anything about the soldiers being immediately removed,
but states that the redcoats left for Canada.

Economic Development Office For The State Of Texas
The summer of 2014, I interned at the Economic Development Office for the state of Texas. The
office was tasked with preparing relocation incentives for companies in order to create jobs. The
office was split into different departments totaling about 45 people. The office worked strictly under
the Governor. One would answer the phone, Office of the Governor, Economic Development...
Economic Development offices around the country came under repetitive criticism for behaving
as governors slush funds. Essentially there are clear lines of imperative control from superior
offices. The office was responsible for overseeing the economic development of the whole state.
In other ways, the office directly contrasted Weber s definition. Since the office was able to
distribute funds and abate taxes, it made incredible financial decisions for companies and the
taxpayers of the state. Awards could not be given out based on a specific set of rules. There was
careful consideration into a companies intentions, how they were prepared for the future, and if
they fit the new model of businesses Texas wanted to attract. In this regard, the office did not
always make systematic decisions. Those promoted were the best performing, most ambitious, and
took initiative; only residue of a seniority system remained. A meritocracy, in direct opposition to a
tenured hierarchy, opened a dichotomy between the older and younger generations. Under
performers were let go regardless of tenure. On a

Mozart Classical Style Essay
Introduction:
In the classical period most people only described the 18th century music as classical music
(style) but it was carefully divided between 3 main styles namely the Gallante style, the
Empfindsam style and Sturm und Drang and finally the Classical style. Later during the 17th
century the music styles became more important and because of the large number of instrumental
players in the orchestra and most of the growth took place in the orchestra field. The first genre
that came to rise was the style gallant around the 1720s to the 1770s it was also known and
described as sophisticated and elegant (Burkholder, Grout Palisca 2010).

String Quartet in E flat major, Op. 33, Russian, No. 2, Hob.III:38, Joke
Haydn was referred as the father of string quartets and this particular one, String quartet in E flat
major, Op.33, composed in 1781, shows great examples of all the different element he used in his
string quartets. The name, The Joke originated because of the fact that Haydn replaced the normal
minuet into a scherzo, which meant playfulness. (Gretchen:1991)
In this composition, he introduces the theme several times, which played in his advantage, because
it would help the audience remember the theme. And his dance like rhythm and pulse was regular

I did have a hard time finding sources that were particularly pertaining to how Lilith came into
play and what exactly her midrash was. Once I found a good substantial amount of information,
I laid out an outline for myself to know exactly in what direction I was headed with the research
content and how I should portray it. Luckily for me, there are many different cultures that have
the context of Lilith, even if they do not call her that. They all describe her as a winged demon
whom comes around at night to seduce men (in order for her to produce demonic children) and to
strangle babies. Another thing that I did which ended up really playing out was researching the
many different forms of Midrash and how they worked. The outcome of my research provided me
with many different types, and how you were meant to characterize each one. I was honestly
surprised at how much went into determining how a midrash should be laid out, whether it be
legal, or non legal reasoning s. I also found it interesting to how sources determined Eve as Adams

how that relationship ended up. I would be interested in taking a class about the women of the bible

growth over time. Each of the specific aspects of Porter s Model is next analyzed and insights are

Threat of Substitute Products and Retail Outlets
Given the relatively high level of capitalization required to move into the Canadian retail grocery
market and the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) also required, these two factors combined create a
formidable barrier to entry for competitors. The exceptions are the well capitalized global
competitors including Carrefour and Wal Mart. Loblaw s reliance on stores as a brand, Control
Label, and Customer Loyalty provide a unique mix of products which also alleviates potential
conflicts with lower end retailers and their regional strengths and weaknesses.
Supplier Power
For Loblaw the continual improving of electronic initiatives including the adoption of the ECCNet
standard and the development of more advanced support of demand planning, ERP integration of
supply chain planning and execution, have given the company a defendable position with suppliers.
The supplier community in retailing tends to dominate the smaller retailers, yet the converse is true

The Ritual Of Sacrificial Suicide
Sacrificial suicide, more commonly known as sati, commenced in the Indian subcontinent as a
Hindu custom. Devi Sati was born to Queen Parusuti and King Dakhsha, who, desiring to parent a
baby girl turned to Devi Adi Parashakti to seek help. The Devi promised to grant their wish, stating
that she herself would be born to them, but that if her manifestation is ever humiliated or insulted,
she would leave the queen and king s lives forever. When Devi Satireached adolescence, she
wished to wed Lord Shiva against the King s command, but the King humiliated her so Sati set
fire to herself and bore a sacrifice to defend her honor. The custom of sati persisted in the
subcontinent for centuries and in fact persists to today. A widow immolating herself on her
husband s funeral pyre or committing suicide one or another way is seen as a symbol or marital
felicity and longevity, as specified by Hindu scriptures. British imperialists not only justified
imperialism by exemplifying sati, but also often took credit of the practice s abolishment in 1829.
The specifics and history of this practice can be demonstrate through three divergent theories:
stadial, hybridity, and post structuralist.
Lord William Bentinck, the governor general of India (1833 1835), portrayed sati as a widely
spread barbarous practice and demanded British action to help save the helpless Indian women.
However, during his reign sati was not as omnipresent as the British colonists made it seem. A

Risks of PSA Testing Essay
PSA test results are interpreted as: 0 4 ng/mL is normal. Between 4 to 10 ng/ML is 25% of
developing cancer, and 10 ng/ml is a 50% risk of cancer. However, some men with normal PSA
levels still have prostate cancer, while other men with high PSA levels do not. PSA levels increase
with age often due to a higher prevalence of benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH). Therefore, no PSA

Emmy Noether Research Papers
When I hear the word mathematician , I normally think of Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton. Notice
how Einstein and Newton are men? Unfortunately most people do not think of any female
mathematicians when they hear that crazy M word. My point of view on mathematicians has
changed drastically due to doing this paper. Instead of thinking of Einstein and Newton, I will think
of the great Emmy Noether. She was a mathematician, professor, and, most importantly, a friend to
students. In this paper, I will discuss her childhood, adulthood, education, major life events, and her
mathematical contributions to the green and blue globe we call home. Emmy had a pretty
educational childhood. Born on March 23, 1882, Amalie Emmy Noether was the eldest of four
children (McGrayen 67). The three boys, Emmy, and their parents lived in the small university of
Erlangen, Germany (McGrayen 67). The Noether family was Jewish a family. Emmy s mother, Ida

Wilfred Owen s poem, Dulce Et Decorum Est, describes the perspective of a soldier fighting in
World War I. In the first stanza, he portrays the current conditions of his comrades and allies,
which he compares to as similar to the appearance of a troubled, old beggar. Together, they are
exhausted, as they force their ways through thick, sludge like mud to get to a place of rest away
from the front line. From that point forward, he and the soldiers continue past the flares launched
by the opposition, which lights them up from behind, causing them to be more easily identifiable,
as well as an easier target. Though weak, and wounded, they still march on. These men are so tired,
in fact, that they were oblivious to the shells coming at them.

Thorndike s commencement suggests that responses instantly followed by gratification will be

How Technology Has Made On Students
In recent years, federal and local governments have been pouring overwhelming amounts of
taxpayer money into buying computers and other digital tools for K 12 education. The rationale is
computers are more important than ever, and they are gaining in popularity daily, so it is necessary
to prepare our students to use them in their daily lives. But the tools that are being invested in are
not being used effectively, and they are showing very minor benefits relative to the massive
economical investment that the public has placed in it. The developments and integration of
computerscience curriculum in K 12 educationis better understood by observing the current impact
that technology has made on students, and exploring the perspectives of teachers and
administrators on technology integration and the expansion of computer curriculum. It is also
important to understand what taxpayers and the public expect out of public schools, and how
curriculum writers and educational agencies are working to better equip schools with resources
with respect to computer education and computer science. In the following paragraphs I will
explore various articles from established individuals in both the educational and computer science
industries, and I will apply their opinions and research to the stakeholders above. To better

Depending on the time of day you go into Topshop depends on the types of people you would
see in there. In the week in the morning the shop is normally quite empty, the only people you
would see in there are young women who are probably unemployed or students. These people
probably will not buy much but will stay in the store for a while. If you go in to Topshop at
lunch time it will be busier and will have young professionals who are just popping in on their
lunch break. These people probably already know what they are going to buy and so will just
buy it then leave. At weekends the store is a lot busier, it is full of all sorts of people who will
probably all spend quite a while in the shop trying things on and then buying.
All Topshop stores look very similar when you walk in, you will know you are in a Topshop

We entered the elevator next. The elevator was as long and narrow as a prison confinement.

were silent in awe. Noticing our reaction, dad looked at us and smiled as comfort. The doors

Since she had delivered the night before, we had to utilize a wheelchair to transport her to the
NICU. On our long walk to the NICU, I asked my dad what NICU meant. He explained that it
stood from Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. When he explained this to me, I was terrified by the big
words and wondered if something was wrong with my baby sister. So when we arrived to the
NICU check in center, I asked a nurse if my sister was okay. She had warm brown eyes, a gentle
smile on her face and auburn hair that fell past her shoulders. She chuckled and told me that my
beautiful baby sister was just fine, and that NICU was just a fancy name for where they kept all
the babies. I breathed a sigh of

Neanderthals
Ever since Neanderthals have been discovered they have been misunderstood. From their name,
physical traits, and their brain power we have misrepresented them in our novels, comic sketches,
cartoons, movies and even in scientific literature for a while. Recently in the past couple of
decades we have been gaining a better perspective of them through advancements in technology
and scientific methods. Here we are going to discuss some of the evidence that led our ancestors to
moving out of Africaand who they were. Taking a look at their environment, archaeological sites
and technologies. Then we will discuss the rise of the Neanderthals and what led them to being
prominent in Europe before we ever got there. We will then go over when our two... Show more

In the book is says we are living in a golden age of Neanderthal tourism. (page 196). There are
several Neanderthal sites that people can visit along with museums like: La Chapelle aux Saints
and Le Moustier in France... just to name a couple. (Page 196). In the United States there is a Hall
of Human Origins in New York and in D.C at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
Of these places there are very realistic reconstructions of the human tree. The artist for the New
York Hall of Human Origins is Gary Sawyer and Viktor Deak, the one at the Smithsonian is John

Introduction to psychology
TASK 1
Psychodynamic is an approach within psychoanalysis (a human behaviour theory) which was
found by Sigmund Freud. He believed that the unconscious mind which was developed primarily
from childhood experiences is what drives our behaviour. Freud thought of the human mind as
though it was an iceberg the conscious mind (which you re in control of) as the tip, and the
unconscious mind (which you have no control over) as the larger part of the iceberg. This led to
him believing that personality was made up of 3 important elements, ID (instinct e.g. sex, hunger,
lust, aggression and so on), Ego (reality and how you perceive the world) and Superego (morality,
following rules within society and being sensible).
Behaviourism is a psychological approach that emphasis on environmental factors influencing
observable human behaviour. This approach consists of two main processes: Classical conditioning
which means learning things by associating them with something e.g. if you ate Chinese food
before and it made you feel queasy and unwell then the next time you see Chinese food you will
associate it to that experience you had before. Operant conditioning which means learning things by
positive and negative reinforcement and association e.g. when you do well in school and your
parents buy you the game you ve always wanted (positive reinforcement).
A key difference between the two is the nature and the nurture debate. The psychodynamic theory
takes both

The Discovery Of Its Effects On The Body
B nCreatine was first found in 1832 by a French scientist named Michel Eugene Chevreul. This
discovery was found by isolating it from the basified water extract of the skeletal muscle in
animals. He named it creatine after he found concentration of it in animal blood and meat. Justus
Von Liebug confirmed in the year 1847 that creatine can be found in the flesh of animal. During
his research he also found that wild foxes have more creatine in their muscles than their domestic
counterparts. Around 1846, the decomposed product of creatine/creatinine was present in urine. In
1923, the first research demonstrated that when animals were to intake oral creatine, the result was
an increase in their weight. After they were to stop or slow their creatine intake, their weight
increased slowly over the period of time. In 1926, Alfred Chanutin, showed in his study that
humans can retain the storage of creatine in their muscles by taking 10 grams of creatine during
the period of a week. The weight gained caused by the intake of creatine allowed Chanutin to come
to a conclusion that it has an anabolic effect on humans. However, taking creatine from meat is very
expensive for researchers so they started trying to produce the synthetic version of creatine. This
was successfully done in the laboratory in the 1950 s. The research studies done in 1978 confirmed
that creatine guarantees that nitrogen is retained better in the muscles. This in turns helps muscles
to recover faster. Within this

Apple Is An Extremely Reputable Company
Apple is an extremely reputable company with many great technologies that many people
throughout the world enjoy. They have advanced quite a bit since their beginning Macintosh
computers a long time ago, and now sell smartphones and tablets, along with their own programs
and software. Apple offers purchases on their devices through their programs such as iTunes and
the App Store, however they always required a passwordin order to buy the product. One of their
slightly new programs, iCloud, offers more freedom when trying to access stored data and
passwords. With iCloud, everything a userinputs on their Apple device gets stored into the cloud,
something that has become very popular even outside of Apple. With all of this personal data
floating around, privacy and security questions begin to rise, and especially when certain
incidents happen that stirs and worries everybody up. Apple s iCloud software, while
conveniently storing and sharing data, has been proven to be accessible by unwanted third parties.
To hack into user s accounts can be very simple through techniques like manipulating usernames
and passwords through brute force or finding the IP address of the device that accessed the cloud.
While these may all seem like difficult things to accomplish to any basic user of Apple s
technology, there are some that have the skill to breach and gain whatever they wish. Internet
protocol (IP) addresses are what s used to identify users through the Internet, and are relatively

Greek Informative Speech
Hi everybody, My name is Mary and I am going to be your docent for the day. Today we are
going to be learning about two different kinds of ancient artwork. I am going to be showing you
examples from ancient Egyptian art and ancient Greek art. First off we are going to learn about
ancient Greek art. The Greeksmastered the idea of sculpture, in earlier times the sculptures looked
fake but by the classical period they started looking more natural with realistic looking faces.
The Greeks also liked to make pottery out of stone and clay, they usually would have
mythological or religious scenes on them and grew more realistic over time. The first ancient
Greek art that we will be learning about today is the Winged Victory of Samothrace. It was
created around 220 185 BC made from parian and rhodian marble. On April 15, 1863 workers
were excavating and uncovered parts of a statue. They then sent it to the Louvre, where it is
currently on display. You can t tell from the picture, but can you believe that this statue is over 18
feet tall!! It has been suggested that she was once holding something in her right hand, such as a
trumpet, wreath, or a fillet. The base of the sculpture is made up of 23 blocks of marble. The next
piece of art that we will be learning about is the Laocoon and his Sons. This sculpture was made in

Its is made of stucco coated limestone. The bust is 3300 years old and was found by excavators
on December 6,1912. Next is a piece of art called Pallete of King Namer. The back of the palette
has a scene showing the king about to strike down a foe, whose hair he is grabbing. The king is
wearing a white crown which is associated with upper Egypt. The victim is shown naked kneeling
in front of him, arms close to his body indicating he was bound. In the background in the scene
there is a falcon, which is a symbol of the

Similarities Between Frankenstein And The Island Of Dr Moreau
Frankenstein, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Island of Dr. Moreau are
excellent examples of Gothic fiction. These stories deal with the forces of good against evil. The
good forces are the family, social conscience, religious belief and moral judgement, all constituents
of a civilized society. The evil side is the corruption of conscience, the misuse of power, violation of
nature and rampant ego. The themes of each work explore the dual nature of mankind. Behind the
benevolent face of civilization there still lurks the beast within every man and it is this fear that the
protagonists exploit to justify their blasphemous experiments. The brooding gothic background is
powerful vehicle for writers to express their unease regarding the imbalance between nature,
science, man and spirituality.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second story is The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the equally famous tale of a
scientist who assaults the social order by unleashing his dark side. Finally The Island of Dr
Moreau, is where we meet the most modern of the three scientists, but we are left without a solid
description of what we must fear. The Island of Dr Moreau, as with the other two novels, deals
with the failures of

Hot Air Balloon In A Wall Of Fire Rising
A massive, air filled balloon wandering mindlessly in the sky thousands of feet high is likely what
comes to mind when you think of a hot air balloon, but this is not the case in the story A Wall of
Fire Rising. In this story, the hot air balloon mentioned has such a deeper meaning to Guy.
Characteristics of a hot air ballooninclude being filled with air, but hollow, free flying, and non
stationary. These four characteristics define the symbol in a whole other light; they describe
hopefulness, trapped, destined, unattainable freedom and escape. As the story evolves Guy s
perspective and the meanings on the symbol changes as well.
A hot air balloon can be classified as filled with air, hollow, free flying, and non stationary. The hot

As hopeful as Guy was, is anything he was trying to accomplish even in his reach? All the things
he wants to do for him and his family seem so farfetched; it s questionable where this hope even
comes from. When the Haiti got their freedom from the French, Guy mistakenly took this notion
as a beginning to freedom. He was stuck in a predestined future; he was poor and without a job.
He was hopeful to have his name on the job list because this meant an opportunity. As time went
by, he realized the hope was back up nothing. He was so far buried down on the job list that it
was nearly impossible to ever get out of the situation he was stuck in. Throughout the whole
story he was the most hopeful person, and it was easily seen by his determination and effort. He
has high hope for a job, freedom, escape and an opportunity even for his family. As the story
developed, he became weary. He sees all the unachieved hopes he had was pointless. He became
hopeless and trapped inside his destined fate. He was stuck inside a life that didn t give him
opportunities, second chances, promises, freedom or escape. He lived the life in the same shoes
his father did. Ultimately every factor he tries to accomplish backfires and he s trapped back at
square one. He hoped for a better life apart of the life he saw growing up with his father. This, as a
matter of fact, changed nothing for Guy; he was buried

  • 2. Analysis Of The Secretary Of Labor V Performance... It is alarming to know that each year there are over 4,500 scaffold injuries and 65 deaths (Occupational Safety and Health Administration [OSHA], 2016). In addition, there is a high risk for construction workers to be struck from objects falling off scaffolds. With these facts in mind, the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission s (OSHRC) 2013 case of the Secretary of Labor v Performance Contracting, Inc. (PCI) raises questions as to why violations of OSHA s scaffold standards are sometimes considered other than serious. Understanding that OSHA gives the Secretary of Labor the tasks of rulemaking and enforcement of its rules, it also gives the task of carrying out the legal process to the commission which both parties accepted, as well as PCI engaging as a business affecting interstate commerce (Secretary of Labor v. PCI, 2013, pp. 2 3). Knowledge of the case s background, parties involved, arguments presented, cases used to reach a verdict, and final ruling provide insight to the penalties assessed, significance, and personal opinion. As detailed in OSHRC s Docket No. 11 3095, a trial was held in the case of the Secretary of Labor, the plaintiff, v PCI, the defendant, on February 28, 2013 in Portland, Oregon before the Administrative Law Judge Patrick B. Augustine. According to court documents, PCI was hired by general contractor, Penta, to do installation work at the Indian Head casino. • 3. Essay about Pros and Cons of the Private Insurance Industry 1. Introduction Extreme weathers, such as storm, floods, heat waves, drought, glacial retreat, have suffered human being and threaten the life, properties and economies for a long time. In recent years, a significant increase is observed in the extreme weathers, such as the number of heavy precipitation events, more intense and longer drought/heat waves as a consequence of anthropogenic influences (IPCC, 2011). In particular, intensification of extreme precipitation is likely to lead extreme coastal high water associated with an increase in mean sea level. On the other hand, there might be positive results from global warming, such as improved agriculture in some high latitude regions (Mendelsohn, 2006), but economic losses from weather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This essay focuses on the impacts and challenges of private insurance industry in growing weather and climate related disasters. Unsurprisingly, private insurance would avoid the financial loss and withdraw its coverage of vulnerable areas. However, insurance mechanism can bring various benefits in terms of loss and damage associated with natural disasters and increasing efforts for equity in the industry in the world. I shall illustrate the benefits of insurance mechanism and a wide range of activities that the industry has worked on, and the potential of a contribution to the international aid programme as a challenge in the future. 2. Insurance mechanism What is insurance? There are a wide range of surrounding risks in activities for individual and companies, such as government finance regulations, ISO certification, IT security, compliance, increasing in natural disasters and infectious diseases, and so on. A failure of the risk managementcould cause a huge financial loss, a bankrupt or a degradation in the reliability. Therefore, the world has invented various risk management mechanisms. There are three main existing risk management schemes to guarantee to meet specified costs for individual, companies or organizations (Freeman and Kunreuther, 1997). • 4. The Ballad Of Mulan And Mui Slays The Serpent In the two stories The Ballad of Mulan and Chi Li Slays the Serpent two young girls living in Ancient China defy all odds and go against the gender barriers. Mulan and Chi Li are two different women living in different parts of China, however, they both have similar feelings about the way they should handle difficult tasks. On the contrary, Mulan is a secretive young girl, while Chi Li is honest. Both womenreveal their true colors when they step out of their traditional role in society and take on the role of a man. Chi Li and Mulan both value bravery and their families well being. Chi Li and Mulan both take risks and forget about fear, as they take on challenges that could end with their death. When Chi Li says, Poor girls! ... The monster conquered you because you were too timid to put up a fight! How pitiful! it shows her value because she s making fun of the girls who weren t brave enough to fight the serpent. Chi Li frowns upon this as she values bravery and these girls were too proper to retaliate. Although nobody has ever been able to slay the serpent, Chi Li defies all odds and does so because of her courage. As for Mulan, even the small action of when she buys a spirited horse, ... she buys a saddle ... she buys a bridle .... she buys a long whip. shows bravery because she had to sneak around her town without anyone seeing her. If anybody saw her, they would realize what she was doing and her parents would have found on immediately. Her bravery overcame the feelings of fear she may have felt, and she stayed strong and fought for twelve years. Both women were brave as an attempt to care for their parents and their families. Even though fighting a serpent and fighting in a battle may have been risky, the two women fought their hardest for the benefit of their families. The two women were courageous because they faced danger and overcame it, even though this might have been difficult. Both women value bravery and family matters because of their fearless mind sets. Chi Li values honesty while Mulan values secrecy. • 5. George W Bush Speech Analysis The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers that took place on 11 September 2001 will never be forgotten among American citizens. The complete destruction of the Twin Towers and the massive death toll of the attacks left the United States in a widespread panic. On 14 September 2001, President George W. Bushstepped up and delivered a speech later titled the Remarks at the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Service. President Bush proved that he was the leader that the United Statesneeded at this extremely difficult time. Bush delivered this speech to his fellow Americans in an attempt to calm the panicking nation. President George W. Bush achieved his purpose through the speech s structure, his word choice, and his use of the rhetorical devices of anaphora and repetition. The structure of President Bush s speech was a crucial aspect in getting his points across to his fellow Americans. At the beginning of the speech, Bush addresses the events that occurred three days earlier. He does not ignore the great losses of the country or what the country is feeling. Instead, Bush acknowledges the types of casualties and offers sympathy to the Americans that are suffering in the second paragraph. Bush focuses on the negatives of September 11 and gets those sorrowful topics out of the way early when he says, War has been waged against us by stealth and deceit and murder (Par. 3). High school was different than today. The Breakfast Club (1985) by John Hughes was the most iconic movie to sum up the eighties; a movie delving into the different stereotypes and stigma of mental illness and bullying, in high school. Adolescence was the time of transition between childhood and adulthood; it is a time for sense of identity. (Chronological Description) For example, there were many labels used on the students by others. (Exemplification) There was the jock, rich girl, geek, outcast, and the rebel. (Objective Description) In the end it had also showed that perspective stereotypes do not matter. The clothing was represented on what was worn in the eighties, in which the trend is slowly coming back into style. The Breakfast Club best describes this era because of how the students labeled each other, disrespected one another, and by the way they dressed. During and after the 1980 presidential election, the Reagan Democrats provided millions of crucial votes for the Republican candidate, Ronald Reagan.( Morning in America,16) He won 51 percent of the vote; once a Hollywood actor, his outwardly reassuring disposition and optimistic style appealed to many Americans. (227). This decision might strike the reader as strange due to its emphasis of a seemingly irrelevant detail. However, the influence of Humbert s childhood home on his life in America is significant, though often subtle. At a hobby museum in Mississippi, Humbert finds a collection of European hotel picture post cards that happens to contain a photograph of the Mirana (155). While every other mention of the Mirana is found in Humbert s mind or narration, subject to his fantasies and potentially faulty memory, the idea of a photograph suggests a real world representation of the original, unaltered Mirana Hotel. However, the colored photo is less authentic than it seems at first. The word colored indicates an editing of the original photo (it didn t originate as a color photo ), and the photo depicts retouched palm trees ; already, the credibility of this photograph is in doubt. In addition, Humbert only gives a few details about the hotel in the picture: it has striped awnings and a flag flying above the aforementioned palm trees. The combination of the editing of the photo and this generic description casts doubt on its authenticity is it even the Mirana? Humbert s hot wave of pride is no clear indication of the photo s validity; his mental perception of and fascination with the Mirana is so strong that he could be projecting his unreal fantasy onto a photograph of another European hotel. Though at first it has an intrinsic legitimacy, the photograph s accuracy is quickly subverted and eroded by Humbert s distortion of reality. As a result, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hexe comes from the German word hexen to hex and the word Hexe which means witch . Gena Showalter has built a world which lets her show us a side to the human mind which we don t look at very often. This twisting and turning plot shows how quickly a person s point of view can change when we learn something we didn t know before. Starting with the biggest differencethere are three after lifes: the Troikarealm, the Myriad realm and the Realm of Many Ends. Currently people today have no idea what happens when we die. Many religions have many different ways that our lives end. These versions are some variation on hell and heaven to varying degrees, others believe there is nothing or that our spirits haunt the world of the living. In Firstlife, the first realm that people can go to is Troika. This is a realm where the sun never stops shining. This realm is devoted to helping others and bringing truth to the unknowing. Galileo argues that some of the biblical passages should not be taken literally because some have different meaning beneath their words. Lastly, Paine claims in his writing of The Age of Reason, God s message cannot be in language due to its incapable of interpretation in different languages which prevent others to understand what the Bible ought to say. This is all done by a revelation which presents a problem on what the word truly means as something communicated immediately from God to man (162). While Hamilton was working as an adviser for Washington, Hamilton had come to realize the Congress weaknesses, including jealousy between states, which he believed came from the Articles of Confederation (http://www.ushistory.org/). In 1782, Hamilton was convinced that establishing a strong central government was the key to achieving America s independence. Alexander Hamilton wanted a national government that had complete political authority. Although Hamilton did not like state governments and wanted them to be eliminated, he knew it was not possible. Therefore, he proposed the idea of having the central government to have the most power, but allow the states to control many of their own rights and individuality. In collaboration with James Madison and John Jay, Hamilton wrote 51 essays out of 85 essays called The Federalist Papers . These essays explained and defended the new Constitution prior to its approval and with his effort, nine states agreed to ratify the Constitution. Alexander Hamilton led the Federalist Party, who believed in a centralized national government with strong economic roots, unlike Thomas Jefferson, who wanted a limited government. • 19. Marx Point Of View On Class Conflict According to Marx, this division between classes widens the condition of exploiting workers that deteriorate so destructively that leads to collapse the social structure: the class struggle is changed into proletarian revolution. The success of workers reduces basis of class division in property from public ownership for production means (Archer, 1982, pp. 455 483). On the basis of this, the classes thus wiped off, the classless society will arise and as the political power protects bourgeoisie from workers is pointless, and the state and political authority will decline away (Merton, 1968, pp 56 78). It is nearly impossible to deny that Marx established new perception for analysing the society s nature, however such ideas are not appropriate with Marx s humanism. Frog And Toad Essay The children s book, Frog and Toad Together, might not have challenging language or plot lines, but it does have life lessons that can apply to real life situations for anyone from children to adults. In the book, Frog and Toad show the importance of being organized and having a plan. The first chapter, A List, shows us that life can become far easier when we have a plan for the future, but be careful not to be too organized. In the second chapter, The Garden, we learn that persistence is key. The third chapter, Cookies, is all about will power. Frog and Toad prove that being brave is not about having no fear, but rather having fear and conquering it. Together, the pair climbed a tall mountain, faced a snake, and were chased by a hawk. They ran back to Toad s house and hid under the bed and in the closet. Although they had fear, they faced them and were brave in the face of adversity. • 21. The Role of Sight, Scent, and Sound by the White-tailed Deer Use and relative role of sight, scent, and sound by white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) to locate and select between different types of foods Introduction The foraging habits of white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus; hereafter deer) have been extensively researched. Studies have evaluated seasonal influence as well as other environmental influences on forage selection by deer (Moen 1981, Rogers et al. 1981, McCullough 1985, and others). However, no such research has ever tested to determine what senses deer use to locate and select between different food types or the relative importance of each sense involved in that process. We are missing much of the basic knowledge of physiology and anatomy related to the sensory capabilities of deer (D Angelo et al. 2006). Information from this type of research is becoming increasingly important to wildlife biologists, as they can use it to improve other forage selection studies aimed at reducing crop depredation or other wildlife damage. So little is known about the role of sight, smell, and sound in deer ability to locate and select between forage types, therefore quantitative information in this area of research needs further attention (Sayre et al. 1992). By understanding the importance of each sense in the location and selection of different food types by deer, new studies can be set up that focus on the most important sense, while also considering what effects the other senses have on their behavior. Differences Between Grounded Theory And Narrative Analysis Grounded theory Is a qualitative approach which calls for simultaneous data collection and analysis to generate a theory during the research process. A theory emerges inductively through the systematic data collection and analysis pertaining to a given phenomenon (Strauss Corbin, 1990). This has two fundamental characteristics which include: theoretical sampling and constant comparative analysis. A grounded theoryis generated by themes which emerge from the data during analysis, capturing the essence of meaning drawn from varied contexts and situations Theoretical sampling, this involves data collection for comparative analysis (Glaser Strauss 1967). The diary entry by John Tudor stated that there had been a brutal massacre on King Street in front of the Customhouse by approximately eight soldiers. This murder took place under the command of Captain Thomas Preston. The massacre started by a group of young men that were having a snowball fight, but quickly drew the attention of many, ending in Captain Thomas Preston commanding his soldiers to shoot. The diary stated that Lieutenant Governor Hutchinson was going to do everything he could do to get justice for those killed. Justice Dana and Tudor gave a warrant for Captain Preston to High Sheriff, which ended with the arrest of Captain Preston and the arrest of the eight soldiers. It was no longer safe for the troops to be in the town because everyone hates them, so Lieutenant Governor called for the immediate removal of the troops from the town to Castle William. The textbook and the diary entry are both similar on how the massacre began, but the textbook states that the soldiers came to assist White, ending in the soldier being surrounded by the crowd and one of the soldiers being knocked down. The soldier that was knocked down, got up and fired his musket according to the textbook, but the diary entry stated that Captain Preston commanded the soldiers to fire. Economic Development offices around the country came under repetitive criticism for behaving as governors slush funds. Essentially there are clear lines of imperative control from superior offices. The office was responsible for overseeing the economic development of the whole state. In other ways, the office directly contrasted Weber s definition. Awards could not be given out based on a specific set of rules. There was careful consideration into a companies intentions, how they were prepared for the future, and if they fit the new model of businesses Texas wanted to attract. In this regard, the office did not always make systematic decisions. Those promoted were the best performing, most ambitious, and took initiative; only residue of a seniority system remained. • 32. The Ritual Of Sacrificial Suicide Sacrificial suicide, more commonly known as sati, commenced in the Indian subcontinent as a Hindu custom. Devi Sati was born to Queen Parusuti and King Dakhsha, who, desiring to parent a baby girl turned to Devi Adi Parashakti to seek help. The Devi promised to grant their wish, stating that she herself would be born to them, but that if her manifestation is ever humiliated or insulted, she would leave the queen and king s lives forever. When Devi Satireached adolescence, she wished to wed Lord Shiva against the King s command, but the King humiliated her so Sati set fire to herself and bore a sacrifice to defend her honor. The custom of sati persisted in the subcontinent for centuries and in fact persists to today. A widow immolating herself on her husband s funeral pyre or committing suicide one or another way is seen as a symbol or marital felicity and longevity, as specified by Hindu scriptures. British imperialists not only justified imperialism by exemplifying sati, but also often took credit of the practice s abolishment in 1829. The specifics and history of this practice can be demonstrate through three divergent theories: stadial, hybridity, and post structuralist. Lord William Bentinck, the governor general of India (1833 1835), portrayed sati as a widely spread barbarous practice and demanded British action to help save the helpless Indian women. • 40. Hospital Observation The hospital lobby was filled with the smell of hand sanitizer. I remember feeling the deep anticipation of seeing my little sister for the first time. The night before I remember overhearing my aunt on the phone, saying it was happening. Instantly, I figured out that it meant my mom was having the baby. Full of excitement, I woke up early the next day, rushed down the stairs, and woke my dad up. My first question was what is her name, but he said mom wanted to tell us all together when we went to the hospital in an hour. In response to this, I whined for ten minutes till he gave up and told me that it had to be our little secret. Her name was Narayani. We quickly drove to the hospital, where we spent three minutes getting visitor badges. We entered the elevator next. The elevator was as long and narrow as a prison confinement. Slowly and steadily, it glided up to the 5th floor. The inside of the elevator smelled like fresh hand sanitizer. My sisters and I had a million questions we wanted to ask but at that time all of us were silent in awe. Noticing our reaction, dad looked at us and smiled as comfort. On our long walk to the NICU, I asked my dad what NICU meant. He explained that it stood from Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. When he explained this to me, I was terrified by the big words and wondered if something was wrong with my baby sister. So when we arrived to the NICU check in center, I asked a nurse if my sister was okay. She had warm brown eyes, a gentle smile on her face and auburn hair that fell past her shoulders. She chuckled and told me that my beautiful baby sister was just fine, and that NICU was just a fancy name for where they kept all the babies. I breathed a sigh of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From their name, physical traits, and their brain power we have misrepresented them in our novels, comic sketches, cartoons, movies and even in scientific literature for a while. Recently in the past couple of decades we have been gaining a better perspective of them through advancements in technology and scientific methods. Here we are going to discuss some of the evidence that led our ancestors to moving out of Africaand who they were. Taking a look at their environment, archaeological sites and technologies. • 42. Psy 201 Study Guide Introduction to psychology TASK 1 Psychodynamic is an approach within psychoanalysis (a human behaviour theory) which was found by Sigmund Freud. He believed that the unconscious mind which was developed primarily from childhood experiences is what drives our behaviour. Freud thought of the human mind as though it was an iceberg the conscious mind (which you re in control of) as the tip, and the unconscious mind (which you have no control over) as the larger part of the iceberg. This led to him believing that personality was made up of 3 important elements, ID (instinct e.g. sex, hunger, lust, aggression and so on), Ego (reality and how you perceive the world) and Superego (morality, following rules within society and being sensible). Behaviourism is a psychological approach that emphasis on environmental factors influencing observable human behaviour. This approach consists of two main processes: Classical conditioning which means learning things by associating them with something e.g. if you ate Chinese food before and it made you feel queasy and unwell then the next time you see Chinese food you will associate it to that experience you had before. Operant conditioning which means learning things by positive and negative reinforcement and association e.g. when you do well in school and your parents buy you the game you ve always wanted (positive reinforcement). A key difference between the two is the nature and the nurture debate. The psychodynamic theory takes both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Discovery Of Its Effects On The Body B nCreatine was first found in 1832 by a French scientist named Michel Eugene Chevreul. This discovery was found by isolating it from the basified water extract of the skeletal muscle in animals. He named it creatine after he found concentration of it in animal blood and meat. Justus Von Liebug confirmed in the year 1847 that creatine can be found in the flesh of animal. During his research he also found that wild foxes have more creatine in their muscles than their domestic counterparts. Around 1846, the decomposed product of creatine/creatinine was present in urine. In 1923, the first research demonstrated that when animals were to intake oral creatine, the result was an increase in their weight. After they were to stop or slow their creatine intake, their weight increased slowly over the period of time. In 1926, Alfred Chanutin, showed in his study that humans can retain the storage of creatine in their muscles by taking 10 grams of creatine during the period of a week. The weight gained caused by the intake of creatine allowed Chanutin to come to a conclusion that it has an anabolic effect on humans. However, taking creatine from meat is very expensive for researchers so they started trying to produce the synthetic version of creatine. This was successfully done in the laboratory in the 1950 s. The research studies done in 1978 confirmed that creatine guarantees that nitrogen is retained better in the muscles. This in turns helps muscles to recover faster. Within this ... • 46. Greek Informative Speech Hi everybody, My name is Mary and I am going to be your docent for the day. Today we are going to be learning about two different kinds of ancient artwork. I am going to be showing you examples from ancient Egyptian art and ancient Greek art. First off we are going to learn about ancient Greek art. The Greeksmastered the idea of sculpture, in earlier times the sculptures looked fake but by the classical period they started looking more natural with realistic looking faces. The Greeks also liked to make pottery out of stone and clay, they usually would have mythological or religious scenes on them and grew more realistic over time. The first ancient Greek art that we will be learning about today is the Winged Victory of Samothrace. It was created around 220 185 BC made from parian and rhodian marble. On April 15, 1863 workers were excavating and uncovered parts of a statue. They then sent it to the Louvre, where it is currently on display. You can t tell from the picture, but can you believe that this statue is over 18 feet tall!! It has been suggested that she was once holding something in her right hand, such as a trumpet, wreath, or a fillet. The base of the sculpture is made up of 23 blocks of marble. The next piece of art that we will be learning about is the Laocoon and his Sons. This sculpture was made in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its is made of stucco coated limestone. • 47. Similarities Between Frankenstein And The Island Of Dr Moreau Frankenstein, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Island of Dr. Moreau are excellent examples of Gothic fiction. These stories deal with the forces of good against evil. The good forces are the family, social conscience, religious belief and moral judgement, all constituents of a civilized society. The evil side is the corruption of conscience, the misuse of power, violation of nature and rampant ego. The themes of each work explore the dual nature of mankind. Behind the benevolent face of civilization there still lurks the beast within every man and it is this fear that the protagonists exploit to justify their blasphemous experiments. The brooding gothic background is powerful vehicle for writers to express their unease regarding the imbalance between nature, science, man and spirituality.... • 48. Hot Air Balloon In A Wall Of Fire Rising A massive, air filled balloon wandering mindlessly in the sky thousands of feet high is likely what comes to mind when you think of a hot air balloon, but this is not the case in the story A Wall of Fire Rising. In this story, the hot air balloon mentioned has such a deeper meaning to Guy. Characteristics of a hot air ballooninclude being filled with air, but hollow, free flying, and non stationary. These four characteristics define the symbol in a whole other light; they describe hopefulness, trapped, destined, unattainable freedom and escape. As the story evolves Guy s perspective and the meanings on the symbol changes as well. A hot air balloon can be classified as filled with air, hollow, free flying, and non stationary. All the things he wants to do for him and his family seem so farfetched; it s questionable where this hope even comes from. When the Haiti got their freedom from the French, Guy mistakenly took this notion as a beginning to freedom. He was stuck in a predestined future; he was poor and without a job. He was hopeful to have his name on the job list because this meant an opportunity. As time went by, he realized the hope was back up nothing. He was so far buried down on the job list that it was nearly impossible to ever get out of the situation he was stuck in. Throughout the whole story he was the most hopeful person, and it was easily seen by his determination and effort. He has high hope for a job, freedom, escape and an opportunity even for his family. As the story developed, he became weary. He sees all the unachieved hopes he had was pointless. He became hopeless and trapped inside his destined fate. He was stuck inside a life that didn t give him opportunities, second chances, promises, freedom or escape. He lived the life in the same shoes his father did. Ultimately every factor he tries to accomplish backfires and he s trapped back at square one. He hoped for a better life apart of the life he saw growing up with his father. This, as a matter of fact, changed nothing for Guy; he was buried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
