Nanotechnology can be applied to civil engineering to improve materials like concrete, steel, and glass. At the nanoscale level between 1 to 100 nanometers, the properties of materials are affected and can be manipulated. Nanotechnology is being used to make concrete stronger and more durable, steel tougher, and glass self-cleaning. While nanotechnology offers benefits, its high costs and potential environmental effects are limitations that need to be addressed. Nanotechnology will significantly impact the construction industry by enabling more efficient use of resources and improved durability of structures.
