Pink Village-a village name Nanaksagar in Chhattisgarh. This village turns pink due to its pink infrastructure as each of the house in this village is colored pink. pink is the color use here as a indicator of the house having toilet. initial effort by the village head to make the village free from open defecation slowly followed by the villagers and there combine effort totally changes the face of the village. village head's unique idea and methodology act as a life changing scene for the villager. within a year the village create its own identity as a pink village free from open defecation. This village is one of the finest example of community participation in rural development.

What is community participation?
•Enables them to become agents for their own development instead
of being passive beneficiaries of development aid.
•Important in emergency sanitation programmes where people
may be unaccustomed to their surroundings and new sanitation
facilities.
Why community participation is important in rural area?
•Providing an open forum for the community to discuss its
problems and find indigenous solutions which may be efficient
and economical.
•Creating will and determination among the members in the

 The Swachch Bharat movement put great
impact on the villagers.
COMMUNITY DECISION MAKING
•Sarpanch of the village and villagers join hand to
hand and took the plunge to clean every nook
and corner of nanaksagar.
•Houses having toilets were painted in pink
colour so that they can be distinguished from
other houses.
CREATIVE CONCEPT ADOPTED
•The village head had ordered that all houses
must have at least one toilet.
•. The village head also declared a fine of Rs 500
for open defecation.

•Earlier The village had some 50 houses with
toilets and now it’s all pink
•Demostration effect put positive impact in
achieving social change in this village.
•People modified the drainage system and made pits to collect the
garbage.
•Outside every house in the village has dozens of pots and saplings .
•Fine is imposed if anyone is found throwing garbage here and there
in the village.
