This document provides instructions for naming binary ionic compounds based on their chemical formulae. It explains that binary compounds contain two elements, with the first part of the name coming from the metal element and the second part coming from the non-metal element modified to end in "-ide". An example is worked out, showing that the binary compound Al2O3 is named aluminum oxide. Students are then given additional examples and asked to practice naming binary compounds from their formulae.
