Charles Dickens wrote Oliver Twist in 1838. The novel follows Oliver, a poor orphan born in a workhouse, who is taken in by a group of criminals led by Fagin. Despite his difficult circumstances, Oliver maintains his purity and innocence. Fagin trains young boys to be pickpockets, including the Artful Dodger who recruits Oliver. Bill Sikes is a terrifying thief and partner of Fagin who threatens Oliver's safety. Though surrounded by corruption, Oliver remains a good-hearted character.
