Vertical Slices in .NET - Bojan Veljanovski, March 2016, MK.NET UGBojan Veljanovski
At its core, engineering is the art of decomposing big problems into smaller ones so that are easier to be understood, communicated and tackled.
The traditional n-tier approach to building a feature is to break it down into several layers. By building it as such there is high risk of over-engineering each layer individually to ensure that the next dependable layer has everything it needs. This way, there is high potential for introducing non-necessary complexity.
By slicing through the layers, and building features in “vertical slices” the complexity gets as big as the individual feature needs it to be, isolated from other parts of the system.
In this session I’ll explain and demo how to simplify a horizontal-layered system towards vertical-sliced one, by employing principles and practices such as SRP and CQS.

While large enterprises often require complex database systems that support thousands of concurrent users, terabytes of data, and a highly-trained support staff, the needs of most businesses and applications are more modest. InterBase SMP is a proven, highly-reliable, low-cost database that can easily support hundreds of concurrent users and gigabytes of data with no support during normal operation.

With AWS you can choose the right database for the right job. Given the myriad of choices, from relational databases to non-relational stores, this session will profile details and examples of some of the choices available to you (MySQL, RDS, Elasticache, Redis, Cassandra, MongoDB and DynamoDB), with details on real world deployments from customers using Amazon RDS, ElastiCache and DynamoDB.
PostgreSQL is very differently architected and presents none
of these problems. All PostgreSQL operations are multi-versioned using
Multi-Version Concurrency Control (MVCC). As a result, common
operations such as re-indexing, adding or dropping columns, and
recreating views can be performed online and without excessive locking,
In this article, we compare MongoDB vs. Firebase. People learn about databases and their various varieties and a detailed comparison chart. We further learn about types of database, features, advantages, and disadvantages, when to use them, and when not to use them.
When you're handling big data in the modern world, you will come to a point where you can't just pick a “one size fits all” approach anymore. However, to get the results you want, you also don’t have to spend big money on fire breathing hardware, or expensive software. AWS offers a beautiful array of open and commercial database choices, from do-it-yourself to fully managed services which handle scaling, and gives you powerful tools to choose the right architecture. You could choose from MySQL, RDS, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra, ElastiCache, Redis, and SimpleDB, and our customers use them for different use cases. Each has different strengths, and this session highlights when you would want to choose each, with examples of how we use each to solve our big data challenges and why we made those decisions. We profile the some of the choices available to you - MySQL, RDS, Elasticache, Redis, Cassandra, MongoDB and DynamoDB – and three customer case studies on RDS, Elasticache and DynamoDB.

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

11. Types of database Engines
Example : Innodb , MyISAM , BerkleyDB etc.
12. Types of database Engines
Every database engines has its different pros and
cons.
13. MyISAM
Designed with a thinking that database are
frequently read not updated.
High Performance
Good for frequent read operations
Locks tables while updating
14. Innodb
Designed with a thinking that database are
frequently updated not read.
InnoDB is transaction-safe
data-integrity is maintained throughout the entire
query process
Allow multiple updates on single table
Locks only row NOT table
15. When to use what database engines ?
More updates less read
More performance
