The three Soldiers were able to make it to the coast, they had taken a route that took them around

Syringe exchange programs seek to provide drug injection users with sterile syringes in order to
prevent the user from contracting blood borne diseases such as HIV/AIDs, hepatitis B and hepatitis
C. These programs are often controversial because they provide injection drug users with the means
to use illicit drugs. Syringe exchange programs are based on the concept of harm reduction. It
would be beneficial to advocate for syringe programs within Canada because they provide Canada
with important services needed to protect public health. Syringe exchange programs can help to
decrease the number of HIV infections among drug injection users within Canada and around the
world.

Alcohol is one of the most widely used drugs there are. It s effects on behavior and personalities
are known by most, whether they abuse it, use it, or neither. Since alcohol is a depressant while
being intoxicated, people s response time, and decision making are effected strongly as the
amount of alcohol taken in rises. At a blood alcohol level of .05%, a person feels good and is a
little less alert than normal. At .1%, a person is slow to react and much less cautious. At .15%, a
person s reaction time is much slower. At .2%, the sensory motor skills are largely suppressed.
At .25%, a person will most likely be staggering and have very bad perception. At .3%, the
person is at a semi stupor. At .35%, a person is at a level for anesthesia and, depending on
tolerance and body weight, could possibly die; And finally at .4% death is likely. People like
drinking alcoholic beverages because of the feeling of courage, being care free and spontaneous.
While drinking, the user may exuberate all of these feelings and act more sexual and aggressive

In this thesis, the goal is to examine how the sense of Self and Place is portrayed and influenced
by colonialism, in two postcolonial fictional South African novels; J.M. Coetzee s Waiting for
the Barbarians and Nadine Gordimer s Burger s Daughter. Both authors have won the Nobel
Prize for Literature, in 1991 Gordimer was the first South African author to receive this Prize,
and Coetzee joined her in 2003. First of all, Coetzee s novel Waiting for the Barbarians offers the
story of the Magistrate going through a crisis of conscience in a complicated place, however the
Magistrate serves as a parallel for all human beings living under regimes that disregard lawfulness
