They’ll also explore some of the exciting new gadgets, widgets, social media, and mobile options offered by the library to make research fit into the lives of our active students, staff, and faculty.

The iPad: Sign of the times, but which way does it point?
Some see the iPad as one more way for people to find endless distractions and entertainments, a nail in the coffin for those who seek to "amuse themselves to death." Others believe the iPad is the best exemplar to date of the possibilities for extending human abilities to learn, connect, and create via powerful portable computing devices. Either way, the iPad and its ilk deserve attention from educators considering the future of teaching and learning. This session will open a conversation about the possibilities, in the hopes of helping participants to move beyond their preconceptions and biases.
Community Collaboration
The goal of community-based service learning is creating an environment in which all stakeholders can collaborate outside the parameters of a traditional course. Creating a wiki site enables current, present, and future students to interact with faculty, other students, and organizational members in one collaborative space. Technology promotes innovation and collaboration as all stakeholders participation in the creative and learning process now and in the future, long after the semester course has ended.

Dr. Bart Rienties is Professor of Learning Analytics and programme lead of the learning analytics and learning design research programme at the Institute of Educational Technology at the Open University UK. He leads a group of academics who provide university-wide learning analytics and learning design solutions and conduct evidence-based research of how students and professionals learn. As educational psychologist, he conducts multi-disciplinary research on work-based and collaborative learning environments and focuses on the role of social interaction in learning, which is published in leading academic journals and books. His primary research interests are focussed on Learning Analytics, Professional Development, and the role of motivation in learning. Furthermore, Bart is interested in broader internationalisation aspects of higher education. He has successfully led a range of institutional/national/European projects, and has received a range of awards for his educational innovation projects. He has published over 250 academic outputs, and is the 4th most cited author and contributor in Learning Analytics in the period 2011-2018 (Adeniji, 2019), the 5th most published author on internationalisation in the period 1900-2018 (Jing et al. 2020) and the 3rd most cited author on higher education internationalisation in Asia in the period 2013-2018 (Can & Hou, 2021), the 7th most published author on social network analysis in social sciences in the period 1999-2018 (Su et al. 2020), and the 14th most published author on educational technology in the period 2015-2018 (West & Bodily, 2020). There is need for constant updating of informatics in fields such as nursing so as to help those in the fields to be able to learn and utilize the skills they learn in positive development of children and personal development. This resource is aimed at performing a study spread out across a ten year period identifying the issues which arise and affect both tutors and students in the context of e-learning systems. This study has been significantly the largest change in the field of medicine and nursing education where hospital training was moved to the tertiary sector. Also, the existing differences between computers and systems dealing with informatics depending on their use can prove successful to the users. Technology has also enabled for the creation and use of online data sources and libraries for purposes of referencing and gaining knowledge.
From this reference I will be able to review how technology has been used in developing an online database which can be used by learners and tutors in the field of nursing to gain information.

Recent advancements in technology have assisted in creation of avenues for students with special needs to be able to access equal education opportunities. Mobile applications can be developed for children especially with cognitive disabilities and other difficulties which may arise in the process of learning to help them gain knowledge and education better. These applications can be used as a tool for improvement and betterment of behaviors, helping them interact with the environment and other aspects of holistic growth such as helping in communication. These applications can be designed for Apple iOS devices due to their increased use in the American market however developments can be made to incorporate other platforms. However, there exists a number of applications which have already been implemented and have proven to be successful in helping in positive growth n children.
I intend to use this source to sow how technology can be used to teach children with disabilities and difficulties in learning. Technology can be harnessed and channeled to be used as a tool for education outside the school to help for better growth and development of a child.

This webinar takes participants through the design and planning phases of building an iCentre in schools. It outlines the range of programs and services provided by an iCentre (the WHAT); presents a range of configurations for an iCentre team including staffing formulas and role statements (the WHO); provides a rationale for establishing an iCentre (the WHY); and presents a blueprint for developing an iCentre (the HOW).
This webinar series assists participants in putting the iCentre concept into practice. It assumes participants already have a basic understanding of the iCentre concept (essential pre-reading is Lyn Hay’s Access commentary on the iCentre concept for those who have not). The popular OCEAN320 The Oceans course was rebooted from the ground up to (1) promote SDSU's new GE capacities and goals and (2) capitalize upon the strengths of online learning. Every quanta of new course content was reversed-engineered from learning outcomes designed to help students appreciate the scientific context and societal complexity of major oceanographic issues, such as ocean warming and acidification, overfishing and aquaculture, and petroleum exploitation and risk. The course is structured into scaffolding learning modules, each comprised of an integrated sequence of live Wimba sessions and an array of student-centered activities based on readings, videos, and web-based simulations. This session will report on the major findings of three large-scale studies examining the impact of instructor immediacy behaviors in recorded online videoconferencing sessions, the Wimba online classroom, and Second Life. The presenters will describe the communicative behaviors that enhance instructor immediacy and closeness with the students and offer practical recommendations for application in different online learning environments.Providing Online Support for Student Writing
With class sizes increasing, it is becoming increasingly difficult to support research and writing activities. The extra workload associated with grading, checking assignments, and providing support outside of the classroom can become overwhelming. Through my experience in the Course Design Institute, I have learned about several tools that will be useful for increasing research and writing activities while maintaining a manageable workload. I have incorporated the use of online tools to support writing activities in a large undergraduate course, including Blackboard, Google Docs, and Wimba Classroom. In this session I will describe what worked and what didn’t work, and I will provide a brief demonstration of the techniques that have been most useful.

Intro to Principles of Universal Design for Learning
Is it conceivable that a course can be designed to reach students with varied learning styles and strengths? This session will explore the practical and concrete applications of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to curriculum and program design. It will also highlight the Scholar Program’s approach to professional development, mentoring, and evaluation in supporting higher education campuses to apply UDL and other strategies. The Scholar Program is part of the Disability & Diversity Project at SDSU – Interwork Institute, which conducts professional development and technical assistance activities for faculty, stafadministrators. The overall focus of the Project is facilitate the capacity of colleges and universities to meet the needs of its diverse student population, including students with disabilities. At the conclusion of the session, participants will have the opportunity to complete a Scholar application to be considered for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
