Improving Recall Of Declarative Memories Essay
Napping: Improving Recall of Declarative Memories in Children Velo Vincent van Houden UC
Berkeley Introduction Sleep has an undoubtedly profound effect on cognitive function and memory
consolidation in young children. Policy makers have the ability to influence sleeping patterns in
children by means of scheduling of classes and funding activities therefore research into sleeping
patterns for optimal achievement is very important when considering the structure of early
education. Extensive research exists showing the positive effects of napping on cognitive
performance tasks but there is still somewhat of a gap in the quantitative information of adolescent
napping via actimeter or electroencephalograph when analyzing the results of declarative memory
recall as well as controlling for the effects of social interaction in lecture settings. Research on
preschool children illustrated that sleep spindles in midday naps enhanced learning for memories
acquired earlier that day (Kurdziel, Duclos Spencer, 2013). A similar study conducted with
adolescents showed that napping enhanced the duration of declarative memories which
demonstrates the continued benefits of napping through development (Lemos, Weissheimer Riberio
2014). A later study showed that nap schedules modulate children s motor learning in finger tapping
exercises and facilitate skill retention for younger children (Ren, Guo, Yan, Liu, Jia, 2015). In
another study, infants who were in a nap

The Beer Simulation
Root Beer Simulation From what I could see, there were not multiple roles to play in this
simulation; instead, everyone logging into the simulation appears to play the same role, which was
that of the distributor ordering products from the manufacturer and attempting to get them to the
customers. This is an important point, because in many ways a distributor has greater flexibility
than a retailer and a manufacturer, but, in other ways, faces far greater constraints than business
people in other positions. The distributor s role is to get stuff from a manufacturer or other
wholesaler and then distribute that stuff to resellers. From reading the instructions, it appears that
there are actually different roles to play in the project, but I actually logged in from different
computers to see if I would get to play another role in the game, but every time I ended up in the
distributor role. One of the interesting things about the simulation was that one did not start from
scratch in the project. Instead, the simulation is already running and is in a certain week of
production and distribution when the student enters into the stimulation. This means that the
student gets both the benefit and the burden of work done by prior students. In my scenario, this
ended up having a very detrimental impact on me, because I began with a tremendous backlog of
product that my retailers had ordered from me. I cannot tell if the person before me was placing
small orders or if they were

Unlike PCI DSS, HIPAA itself does not descend to the level of security controls and technologies to
implement. This requires the organizations affected by HIPAA also known as covered entities to
try to follow the spirit of the regulation as opposed to its letter (Chuvakin amp; Schmidt, 2013). The
iTrust database contains protected health information and therefore identifies as a covered entity
and must establish safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic
data. Compliance with HIPAA security standards in the areas of administrative safeguards, physical
safeguards, stored data safeguards, and technical security mechanisms are required for an entity to
achieve HIPAA compliance.
Lack of Access Control
The lack of administrative safeguards that control information access management concluded that
the iTrust website and database lack the appropriate access controls to protect and safeguard patient
data. Access controls should enable authorized users to access the minimum necessary information
needed to perform job functions (HHS, 2007). Additionally, every person accessing the system
should have a unique account for accountability and auditing purposes. HIPAA does not publish a
guide with the exact security controls to achieve compliance, which is the direct opposite of PCI
DSS. Instead, HPIAA would rather an organization achieve compliance with a sincere aspiration to
protect sensitive patient

3) In what ways did Charles Hamilton Houston and W.E.B. DuBois differ in their approaches to
school integration? Why? [Optional: Who do you think was right and why? You may use extra
lines if you would like to respond.] Houston fought for black civil rights through the legal
system. He was a prominent black lawyer and believed that legal tradition inspired judicial
restraint, whereas legal realism inspired judicial activism. This not only sparked a change in
those that worked with Houston, but it incorporated using laws to help blacks with civil
injustices wherever possible. DuBois approached school integration and civil rights issues
through militant socialism. He believed that blacks needed to strengthen their own infrastructure
in order to gain a better social structure. This didn t sit well with the NAACP. I believe that
Houston had a better approach to the issue of school integration because his approach was
accepted by more individuals. DuBois offended more people by saying that blacks needed to
create a change amongst themselves in order to be accepted more in society. 4) The Supreme
Court ruled on Sweatt v. Painter and McLaurin v. Oklahoma State Regents in 1950, and on Brown

Mental And Physical Health Of College Students
Literature Review: Mental and Physical Health of College Students
Jackie Brocious
Misericordia University
Literature Review: Mental and Physical Health of College Students
This paper is focused on the sub topic of mental and physical health of college students, either
within healthcare related fields or general graduate programs. This sub topic is a branch of our
group s research purpose of identifying the occupational therapy (OT) student s perception and
confidence with an OT program and their preparedness within the field.
A study done by Pfeifer, Kranz, and Scoggin (2008) at Texas Universityfocused on the perceived
stress of OT students in an entry level master s program. The results from the interview revealed that

It was found that much of the cause of psychological distress came from the lack of clarity and
transparency within the structure of the programs and study plans, and not with the quality of the
teachers (Nerdrum et al., 2009).
Jacob, Itzchak, and Raz (2013) stated that many healthcare students perceive themselves as working
under a lot of pressure due to the demands of their programs. The students rated time demands of
courses and the amount of material covered the highest indicators of stress within the academic
factor (Jacob et al., 2013).
In Norway, a survey reported that college students were at a greater risk of developing mental
health problems than the general population (Bonsaksen, 2015). Female students were also twice as
likely to report mental health problems compared to their male counterparts (Bonsaksen, 2015). At
the end of the study, the male students had a higher satisfaction with the OT program, and had
higher levels of self esteem and self efficacy (Bonsaksen, 2015). Bonsaksen (2015) also notes that
regarding the self esteem measure, the students who spent most of their time on self study, acquired
higher scores, which suggests that the female students, who tended to have a lower self esteem and
self efficacy, could offset it by increasing self study.
Holinka s (2015) study was determined to support other findings of how stress negatively correlates
with college students life satisfaction. The analysis from her study

German Secret Weapons of World War II
German Secret Weapons of World War II Introduction German jets had many unique designs
during World War II. These designs have fascinated many airplane designers since the end of the
war. My purpose is not meant to praise the World War II Nazi Air Force, but to show how
Germany developed these airplanes and how they used them. It was fortunate for the Allied
powers of World War II and the world that the U.SA.F. Defeated the axis powers. If the allies had
delayed entering the war a few more months, this would have allowed the Germans enough time
to produce large amounts of these jet airplanes, and the outcome would certainly have been
different or too close for comfort. German technology advances in modern warfare were more of
a danger to the world that many would like to admit. We are very fortunate that Adolf Hitler
made the mistakes he made in the design and production of these advanced airplanes. Adolf
Hitler was responsible for making decisions that either slowed or stopped many of these jet
projects. The airplanes Germany had before anyone else were faster than anything flying at the
time. So why didn t Germany and the Axis powers win the war if this was true? The answer is
that Allied powers produced more of the B 24 s the B 17 s and also P 51 Mustangs by the tens of
thousands. The Allies also dropped thousands of tons of bombs on German airplane factories, until
they destroyed all of the Nazi manufacturing plants and destroyed the entire German air force, along

Analysis Of Allah Hu Akbar
David Procter Formal Writing
Allah Hu Akbar is portrayed as a war chant and terrorist motto by the media whenever there has
been a conflict around the world with Muslims or others with Middle Eastern descent. But it is
actually a prayer meaning God is great. The media is wrongly portraying Muslims as terrorists,
Muslims follow the religion of Islam and since the attacks of 9/11 on the twin towers. Muslims,
especially in America, are suffering from discrimination from babies being forced off domestic
flights to American Muslims who were denied the second amendment of bearing arms. Even
famous musicians have been denied entry in the U.S because of their Islamic name, and
Muslims not being served un opened cans of Coca Cola as it could be used as a weapon . This
prejudice is creating lethal stereotypes in today s society. The media have published articles that
portray many Muslims as terrorists. This has made many Americans believe that Muslims all
have connections to Al Qaeda and Taliban making everyone fear them in general. This
discrimination is even effecting babies. Riyanna Abdullah was an 18 month old child who was
flying on a JetBlue flight from Florida back to New Jersey. She was asked to leave the plane by
flight attendants because she was on the no fly list. Riyanna shares the same name as a known
terrorist (Islam uses similar names). Even when the flight attendants saw that she was an infant they
still refused. This prejudice against the Abdullah family was

Examples Of Fatalism In The Breakfast Club
Is It Really Fate? There are 19 major world religions which are subdivided into a total of 270
large religious groups, and many smaller ones. 34,000 separate Christian groups have been
identified in the world according to David Barrett. Religion is just faith or a belief system that
people have. A belief system that dates back to early times is, Fatalism. Still seen today in
popular movies, books, T.V. shows and other works of art, fatalism is the belief that, all things
and events are inevitable. Movies like: The Breakfast Club, Dirty Dancing, and Serendipity all
show examples of how fatalism is still real. In the movie, The Breakfast Club, which is based on
five different high school students, all meeting each other in detention. It is significant that they all
different stereotypes because it later shows how much they are truly alike although they are
different. If in the movie, if the director would have used the same type of students it would not
have had the same effect, how everyone is brought to one place by fate. Even though they student
pour out their guts to each other and realize how much they common, they know that they are not

Heroes And Non-Hodgkin s Lymphoma
When you look up hero in the dictionary it reads: a person, typically a man, who is admired or
idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. If you were to ask a five
year old what he or she thought a hero was, they would give you an answer like Superman or
Captain America. I probably would have given the same type of answer. Now that I m older, I have
a better understanding and different outlook on the word hero.
In the definition it states typically a man . Besides my father, the rest of my heroes are women.
Other people might know a ton of male figures that they consider heroes. That is great, but I feel
like typically a man does not need to be in the definition of the word hero. This makes it sound
like women are less likely able to be heroes. When women are more ... Show more content on

Analysis Of This Way For The Gas Ladies And Gentlemen
This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski, published in 1959, is a short
story about a concentration camp prisoner s experience working on Canada, the group of
inmates responsible for helping unload the incoming prisoner transports. The narrator bares
witness to many atrocities throughout the story, which are made more impactful to the reader
through Borowski s use of impactful dialogue, figurative language, casual and matter of fact
tone, and repetition. These literary elements allow Borowski to draw the reader in more than he
would otherwise, and make them feel almost as if they are experiencing the horrors along with
him. With few exceptions, every line of dialogue in the passage starts on it s own new line. This,
combined with a lack of says or said in most cases, gives the dialogue a pointed and natural
feeling. This has a couple of effects on the reader. First, it allows the reader to be more invested
in the characters and the narrative that is playing out. They are able to feel closer to the action
because of a lack of Henri said or I said getting in the way every line. This helps with the flow of
the story while it is being consumed. For example, Schade, too bad. Come, come, Herr Posten, isn
t my word good enough any more? Haven t we done business before? How much? One hundred.
Gemacht? Gemacht. (698) The dialogue above is casual and welcoming. In context, when the

Analysis Of Mcdonald s S Low Cost Industry
To compare or contrast any industry, our text s author makes a clear distinction of the
identification of the specific industry so the appropriate strategy can be identified. To ensure
the strategy identification is not apples to oranges, he gives the example of McDonald s
utilizing Porter s low cost strategy if it s in relation to all restaurants and not just fast food, but if
the industry was fast food only with an organization like White Castle, McDonalds would be
defined somewhere in the middle. Specific market industries are important in identifying the
type of strategy an organization is utilizing and strategies are relative terms to the way in which
the organization hopes to or actually fits into an industry. Porter s generic typology emphasizes
low cost industries or how industries strategies differentiate their products in the industry
through specific focus groups or to the market as a whole. Porter s typology is expressed in low
cost (cost leadership) strategy (without focus), where typical quality and research and
development standards are set a there is very little opportunity to improve either because of the
cost driver scenario. Wal Mart is identified in our text as part of this group. Next is the focus low
cost strategy, identified by low cost items with a specific niche. The text refers to Aldi, a low cost
retailer known for a specialized selection of items management have deemed to be low cost, but

Essay about Lowering Population In India And South Asia
Lowering Population in India and South Asia
The problem of overpopulation exists nearly everywhere, and if it does not currently exist, it will
in the near future. People are having several children, and that is greatly exceeding the death rate.
This problem is especially apparent in South Asia, and it is causing several problems such as
famine, epidemic, overcrowding, etc.
The country of India is in dire need of aid in the decreasing of their population. There are
approximately 25 births for each 9 deaths. That is nearly a 1.58% increase in population. The

including required military service for the father and the new son or large fines can be created. But
limiting the amount of children allowed by law may seem kind of harsh. There are still other
methods of lowering surface population in India.
The Country of India has a GDP of 1.8 trillion dollars. A new tax dubbed, quot; The population tax
quot; can be enacted, that for a small some of money monthly, can aid in the fight against over
population in South Asia. The tax would do this by constructing free clinics with a variety of
ways to help. The first of which is to provide the strictest confidentiality about anything that
occurs inside. A barrage of free material as well as expert advise would be in the clinics for
anyone to learn about safe sex, and anything else that needed to be there. Free contraceptives would
be given. Of course Abstinence with 100% effectiveness will be recommended but if this will not
be done that other methods will be suggested.

Disadvantages Of A Semi Structured Interview
Section 1: Methodological Considerations Question 1 One advantage of a semi structured interview
is that in the case of participants who tend to answer questions briefly, the interviewer can ask more
open ended questions and cater the structure of the interview for the participant. The interviewer
has a choice of which order to ask the questions in and how to ask them. For instance, in the
transcript for the interview, the interviewer is being provided with one sentence yes/no replies in
the beginning. Then, a few questions later, the interviewer asks a more detailed question that asks
the participant how they manage their diabetes and who helps them. This prompts a more detailed
response from the participant, who has now been asked to speak more freely about their experience
with diabetes. Furthermore, for semi structured interviews, the interviewers can follow what the
participants are saying and modify their questions accordingly. The interviewer can be prompted by
something the participant has said, and explore that prompt further in their proceeding questions.
For example, when the respondent states that they do their own finger prick blood test, the
interviewer then explores that deeper by asking follow up questions such as what equipment the
participant uses and the difference in their own materials versus the hospital s. Furthermore, in a
semi structured interview, the participant might bring up interesting points the interviewer had not
come across in their

Description Of The Red Kangaroo
Describing Movement The Red Kangaroo
Introduction
The Red Kangaroo Macropus rufus is the largest of the marsupial family residing across the
deserts and grasslands of Australia (SDZG, 2011). The Red Kangaroo is a herbivorous species with
an unusual method of locomotion, hopping, also known as saltatory locomotion; hopping is unique
to members of the kangaroo and wallaby family (Dawson, 1995). A red kangaroo is capable of
hopping at speeds of 30mph using its muscular hind legs to propel and tail as counterbalance and
support (Marshall Cavendish Corporation, 2010). The kangaroo s body and musculoskeletal
structure of large hindlimbs and short forelimbs has evolved to adapt to its hopping gait. Ancestors
of the species were quadrupedal, the only exception to this evolutionary change is the smaller
Musky Rat Kangaroo Hypsiprymnodon moschatus which still uses a quadrupedal plantigrade gait
(Richardson, 2012).
Why Hopping?
It is commonly known that Australia is a large country, and with a total of 7,692,024 km2, it is
the sixth largest country in the world (GA, 2014). Considering most of the land is arid, there is a
limited amount of resources readily available for the grazing kangaroo, so it is necessary for it to
be able to travel far distances efficiently to reach water before dehydrating. Kangaroos are prey
animals, with the main predator being the Dingo with additional predation coming from
commercial shooting for human consumption (Dawson, 1995), the Red Kangaroo has

Essay about Health Care Reform in the United States
Health Care Reform
Health care has been an area of discussion for some time now. In the United States, the current
health care system is a private system that allows individuals to choose their own method of care.
Despite the freedom that comes with the independent nature of this type of health care system, the
true disposition creates more problems than it solves. The privacy of the health care institutions has
caused affordability and access to become serious issues with this system. Additionally, those with
lower socioeconomic status fall short of the ability to access the same pool of resources as
everyone else. Due to the issues with affordability, access, and the poor infrastructure of the health
care system, a universal health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These facts point out that the system currently at play is rather ineffective and therefore ought to
be changed. Money plays a huge role in access, therefore it is a vital issue to discuss. Within the
current system, lack of money results in lack of health care, which leaves thousands of people
without any health care coverage. Between 2001 and 2005, the number of people paying for health
insurance increased 30%, however income only raised 3% (Health Care Problems). Adequate
income is a necessity and unfortunately that is not present. According to the National Conference
of State Legislatures, the average annual premium across the country is $16,000. Currently, the
average annual income in the United States is $51,107. Mint Money Management suggests that
about 4 6% of one s total income should be spent on insurance, including life, disability, and health
insurance. However, the averages in the United States show that the average person spends about
31% of their income on health insurance, which is not financially beneficial. When this rise in
health insurance is not parallel to the inflation of income, innocent people are left without a
method to achieve health care. There is a program for those who can t afford health insurance out
of pocket nor have access to it, and that is called Medicaid. Issues still exist with the program.
There is only so much funding, which leaves many still uninsured. Additionally, people with
Medicaid have difficulty

Us Constitution Vs Great Britain Essay
Great Britain and the United States have two different types of political systems, but both are
democratic. Although their relationship hasn t always been great, they have a military alliance
which was established during World War II. They have had their ups and downs.
The United States has a written constitution whereas the Great Britain does not. While the
Constitution is impossible to change in any significant respect, the Great Britain various Acts of
Parliament can be changed by a majority vote of the legislature. The American constitution separate
the power between the executive, the legislature and the judiciary, but the British political system
does not have official separation of powers. Actually, in Great Britain, one person is actually a
member of all three arms of government.
The chief executive of the United States is the President. He has the power to issue executive orders
which have the full force of law. In addition, the constitutional system of, checks and balances,
restrain the power of the President which makes it difficult to push legislation through Congress.

The Road And City Of Thieves
Everyday people are put into tough situations, and how they get past these situations is up to
them. The choice is to overcome these challenges or give up and let the challenge triumph.
Cormac Mccarthy s novel The Road, takes place in a post apocalyptic world in the present day.
With ash covering the land, cannibal groups roaming and freezing temperatures, a father and son
manage to stay strong and survive. The father s main goal is to keep his innocent scared son alive,
and teach him life lessons while doing so. David Benioff s novelCity of Thieves, occurs during
World War II while the Nazis are invading Russia. The two men who begin as strangers, have to
perform a near impossible task to be able to keep their lives. They must hide from Nazis, survive
the harsh winter and have the faith to complete their task. Both The Roadand City of Thieves
demonstrate that people can overcome difficult situations by having faith, and keeping strong
relationships. For starters, The Road displays that people can overcome tough situations by
having faith and never giving up. A father and son in the novel are forced to survive and adapt to
a new way of living that includes, searching for food and shelter to survive, and always being on
the lookout for evil people. Never giving up, and having faith in these tough situations is how the
pair survive and live the best life possible. The manin the novel always believed in never giving up,

Mr. Rogers Neighborhood
For many Americans, the simple mention of the word neighborhood immediately conjures up
memories of Fred Rogers singing the iconic theme song of his long running PBS show, Mr.
Rogers Neighborhood. A typical episode of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood featured appearances from
many of Mr. Rogers neighbors, such as Officer Clemmons, a black policeofficer who would often
drop by to teach viewers about the job of policing, to impart some practical wisdom for living
peacefully with one s neighbors, or simply to check up on the kind, cardigan wearing man.
Characters like Officer Clemmons added to the overt portrayal of Mr. Rogers neighborhood as a

One of the ways that youths in inner cities find stability in their unsafe neighborhoods is by
following the code of the street and campaigning for respect on the street asserting their

example of this pressure to follow this code of the street can be seen in the fourth season of The

Castrati In The 18th Century
Castrati were very popular during the 18th century. Boys from the age of 8 to 12 years old or
even before they hit puberty would be castrated with the intention of saving their high pitched
voices and they were now called castrati. The effects of this operation would vary depending on
when it occurred. According to Tony Perrottet , if the castration occurred on before the age of 10,
they often grew up with feminine features, smooth, hairless bodies, incipient breasts, infantile
penis and a complete lack of sex drive. Perrottet continues that on the opposite side, males operated
on after the age of 10 continued physically develop and could often hold erections. This operation

Both ladies and gentlemen of society desired them. This is interesting due to the fact that words
for gender identities had not yet been created at this time . An example of the obsession but
hypocrisy with castrati is seen when castrato Giuston Tenducci and Dorothy Maunsell, an Irish
heiress, eloped to the outrage of her father who later found Tenducci and threw him in jail . The
father approved of the castrato until he married his daughter and could not reproduce. In a way
castrati could be considered as a taboo love interest and therefore this is what made them more
attractive. During the 18th century, castrati were also thought to have angel voices which was
attractive to the audience. The infatuation with castrati and their voices overpowered the thought
that castration for boys was unethical and so the operation continued. This contrasts to the belief
that this operation in the present day violates a basic human right and is too unethical even with the
results to continue. Angus Heriot, modern day critic and author, expresses this from the description
of the last castrati, Alessandro Moreschi, He is surprising, but never exquisite. These thoughts from
modern day denote that the talent is not thought to surpass the unethicalness of the operation and
therefore the operation continues to be

The Role Of Commercialism In White Noise By Don Delillo
Life...Made better This is promising the slogan for Dash In convenience stores. It is a promise
that stopping at their store will improve your life. It is a promise that you are not lying to
yourself every time you step through those glass doors. In the book White Noise by Don Delillo,
readers experience the story of this kind of lie and it s consequences. It follows an introspective
college professor and his dealings with his fear of death. It does so against the background of a busy
family life, full of colorful characters. White Noise highlights the truths of humanity in a satirical
fashion, expertly weaving the American dream into the troubled psyche of the main character, Jack.
White Noise reveals that the modern tools of humanity are shallow protections against the reality of
life and death.
The role of blinding commercialism in people s lives is to provide comfort in its repetitiveness and
thoughtlessness. Commercialism does not encourage deep thought by any means, it prays on the
quick impulses of the human mind. Murray points this out when talking to Jack about his students
and their dislike of television, Look at the wealth of data concealed in the grid, in the bright
packaging, the jingles, the slice of life commercials, the products hurtling out of darkness, the coded
messages and endless repetitions, like chants, like mantras. (51). Murray s studying the television
shows just how much can be learned about humankind from it. Through the use of a simile,

The Historical Context Of The Letter To The Colossians
The letter to the Colossians was written by the apostle Paul. It is likely that Paul wrote the letter
of Colossians in the late AD 50 s or 60 s, while he was imprisoned. This letter was written to a
gentile church plant located in Colossae, a city of Rome. Paul planted churches in Ephesus
which is 100 miles west from Colossae. However, it is improbable that Paul is the founder of the
church of the Colossians since he was imprisoned at the time. For example, Paul said,
Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, (Col. 4:10, ESV) indicating his imprisonment as he
mentioned his fellow inmate. The book of Colossians is not the only prison epistle that Paul
wrote; The book of Ephesians, the book of Philippians and the book of Philemon are all prison
epistles. So, perhaps, it was Epaphras who planted the Colossians church. This exegetical study
will explore the historical context of the Book of Colossians to understand why Paul exhorted
and prayed for the Colossians to be filled with God s divine will. Colossians 1:9 14 is relevant in
today s time because it proves that the power of intercessory prayer edifies the Church to defend
the gospelfrom false teaching.
Historical Context
It is apparent within the letter of Colossians that Paul cautioned them to abstain from false
teachings and philosophies that usurp the sufficiency of Christ, his grace, and their faith in Christ
[and which it enabled] them to reach the desired goal of glorification and perfect

The Value Of Love In Those Winter Sundays, By Robert Hayden
Love, in any form, is such that people find ways of celebrating it. The American poet Robert
Hayden honors this compelling emotion in the poem Those Winter Sundays. Those Winter
Sundays is a fourteen line literary work that gives a description of an event from the speaker s
past. Although the poem is a short description of an event past, much information can be read
between the lines of few words. Freelance writer Jeannine Johnson characterizes Hayden s work to
honor the value of loves simple, domestic services in our lives (Johnson). Moreover, the value of
love in Those Winter Sundays is underlined by the use of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic sensory
images to emphasize the change in the speaker s perspective of the events.... Show more content on

Other than the title, the visual sensory images of the body of the poem also support the contrast
and change in the speaker s perspective. The first stanza implies the eagerness of the father to
carry out simple chores for his family as he does not fail to accomplish on Sundays the same
task he tirelessly does on every other day of the week...On every day, Monday through Saturday,
and even on Sundays too (Johnson, par. 1). The first line may denote the father s care, however,
the nonchalance on the part of the speaker in Sundays too my father got up early (Hayden 1) is
also apparent. It could be that the line is a mere statement of a simple recollection, but is also
indicative of how the speaker trivializes the father s early morning efforts. If in the first line the
speaker offhandedly remarks about the early morning efforts of the father, the speaker, in the
following lines, shows more concern in sharing minute details about the condition in which the
father carried out his morning tasks. In fact, the nonchalance in the first line suddenly changes as
said line contributes to the intensity of the image of and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold,

the uninteresting normalness of the routine, the image changes to one of selflessness as with the

Christian Worldview Research Paper
Western Civ Essay Hayden McLendon A worldview is one s presuppositions and values that a
person tries to use to understand the world around them. A presupposition affects how we
believe and reflect on how we view Politics, Science, and our ethics. A Christian world view
helps us to interpret God, Jesus, ideas, beliefs, convictions, and our habits of the world. The cool
thing is that everyone has a worldview whether they think it or not there isn t such a think as

Diction In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
In the poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, he looks back in his memory as a child and
explains the love he has for his father despite all the flaws his father holds. Roethke describes his
emotions through this poem by using diction, imagery, and the use of tone. In the poem, Roethke
uses diction that shows his emotions towards his father. In the first stanza, the poet says: The
whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy; But I hung on like death: Such waltzing
was not easy. Even though his father is a drunk he still loves him. He says I hung on like death
which emphasizes the bond he has with his father while they are waltzing together. This also shows
a strong sense of loveand affection he has for him. Because his father s breath reeked of whiskey,
it was hard for them to waltz with ease. Also, the poet somewhat describes pain in way as well
when he uses the words battered and scraped in the third stanza. He uses these word battered
because he s describing that his father s hands as worn out and beat up because he probably
works really hard at his job which requires a lot of labor and the description of that word shows
the reader that he works hard at what he does. With the word scraped, this shows pain because
when the poet and his father waltz, his right ear scraped because his father was drunk on the
whiskey and it made him a little dizzy and the poet most likely hit something which scraped his
ear. The poet also uses the word romped ; this describes that the son and the father are having fun
together waltzing even though they are being careless as they are bumping into the pots and pans in
the kitchen which annoys the mother as described in the second stanza in the last two lines.
With the use of imagery, the poet communicates to the reader the emotional bond between the
father and his son. In the first stanza of the poem, the he illustrates a clear picture between the son
and the father. The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy But I hung on like death
Such waltzing was not easy. the poet is saying that the father may not be the best father in the world
with his breath smelling like whiskey, but despite that, the son hangs on like death. The simile the

The Governing Body Of Soccer
The People s Game Soccer
Football, fГєtbol, fuГџball, soccer. No matter what the name, it is a sport that is played throughout
the world. The current governing body of soccer is the FГ©dГ©ration Internationale de Football
Association (FIFA) headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. Just like any large cooperation, they are
not without fault when it comes to integrity issues, such as the recent corruption scandal in 2015.
Nonetheless, the idea of the game was created to be pure in order to have friendly competition.
The concept of the game in which is known today was established in 1863 in England. However,
the origins of the game have been scientific traced dating back to the second and third centuries in
China (FIFA). In 1863, the game that was played centuries before split into two factions; one
faction continued to use their hands and became rugby, the other became soccer. Breaking the
soccer down to the basics of today; each team is allowed to have 11 players on the field, goal
keepers are the only ones allowed to use their hands, and the objective is to get the spherical ball
into the other team s goal without using their hands. The evolution of the game has allowed soccer
become the best sport in the world because it teaches teamwork, goals, and camaraderie.
The word teamwork is used very regularly; however, it is much easier said than done, especially
when it comes to sports. Teamwork is about remaining positive, having trust, accepting

healthcare sector. I will reflect upon a practice based situation related to a service user and
discuss how this is linked to the policy Our health, our care, our say (Department of Health,
2006). I will also provide a self assessment of my current level of development using the
Interprofessional Capability Framework. Our health, our care, our say is a policy published by
the Department of Health in 2006 which aims to provide a more effective health and social care
service in the community outside of hospital. It s main aims are to improve community based
care, enable health independence and well being, provide better access to general practice and
community services, and greater support for people with long term health conditions. It sets out
the government s vision for high quality support meeting people s aspirations for independence
and greater control over their lives, making service flexible and responsive to individual needs.
This policy really highlights the need for an improved, person centred healthcare service in the
community, bringing together different interprofessional teams to provide quality care for the
service user. The practice based situation I will discuss revolves around Mary, a single mother of
two young children. Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a left sided total

Similarities Between Huck Finn And Walden
Freedom is an inalienable right according to the Declaration of Independence. But it s only
inalienable to those of a certain age, race and gender. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and
Walden share a similar premise about seeking and gaining freedom but go about it very differently.
Freedom in Huckleberry Finn comes about through running away, making good friends and having
many adventures. Freedom in Waldenhappens when Thoreau is secluded in nature for an extended
period of time to be self reflective. Huckleberry Finn is an adolescent and Thoreau is an adult.
As an adolescent, I would rather be with friends new or old on a similar adventure as Jim and
Huckleberry Finn down the Mississippi because of freedom it represents and the encounters with
people and situations along the way. Thoreau s seclusion for years on a pond in the woods means
he s alone with nothing but his thoughts to develop personal philosophies on freedom. Both books
are statements on the society at the time and on how to best find yourself at different life stages.
Huckleberry Finn is running away from an abusive parent and started off his adventure alone,
but soon finds Jim who is a runaway slave of Miss Watson s. They continue their journeys
together and become friends and will do anything to protect each other. Along the way, when
they are together they come across two people in need of help. Just as I was passing a place where

Examples Of Delusion In Don Quixote
Miguel Cervantes Don Quixote is a masterpiece in many senses of the word: at the time of its
conception, it was hailed as a revolutionary work of literature that defined a genre, in later centuries
regarded as an acerbic social commentary, a slightly misshapen romantic tragedy, and even as a
synthesis of existentialist and post modernist features. At the centre of this Spanish satirical
chronicle is the perplexing character Don Quixote. Don Quixote s personality and perspective is
rapidly established fromsince the beginning of the novel, revealing unabashedly to readers that he
is mad. The source of his madness lies in the extent to which Don Quixote acts on his delusions and
projections unto reality as he saunters through Cervantes Andalusia. Don Quixote s delusions have
two primary functions in the novel: demonstrating the reality and tragedy of Cervantes
manifestation of idyllic themes of love and chivalry, and revealing certain characteristics about
narration. A role of Don Quixote s delusions is to provide a glimpse into a situation where the

Southerners relied on slaves to produce the cotton and considered those slaves as property, but
Northerners felt that slavery was in violation of the Constitutional right to liberty, the pursuit of
happiness, and equal rights. As the country expanded west and more states were added, there were
more issues with sectionalism. When Missouri requested statehood, they wanted to be admitted as
a slave state. If they had been allowed to join, the free states would have been outnumbered. Maine
also wanted to become a free state. To keep the balance of the nation, Henry Clay suggested the
Missouri Compromise that both states be admitted at the same time to keep the balance.
(Cornell, p. 214) This action continued to keep the country divided based upon the regional
attitudes of slavery, however, it did relieve the tension of what would happen if there wasn t a
balance anymore. The Compromise of 1850 included the Fugitive Slave Law which also was an
act of sectionalism. (Cornell, p. 347) Under this law, runaway slaves could not be free if they
escaped to the North, but rather they must be returned to their owners. This law created more
tension between the North and South because a Northerner could be held accountable for harboring

The Pros And Cons Of Higher Education
Higher education is an optional terminal stage of formal learning, usually offered after
completion of secondary education. Records show that there has been an increase in college
admission of up to 15 %, since the mid 90 s (Brennan, 2004). Better jobs, huge salaries, excellent
perspective, good status and better lifestyle, are all promised to people considering to join
colleges. However, there is a debate if they made the best decision to join and graduating from the
college. The life that you would lead after college is a matter based on the program of study and
the occupation you choose (Philip and Uros, 2013). The cost of pursuing higher educationis also a
matter of contention which limits the level of study one can reach with some opting to drop out
due to constraints in finances and others having to deal with loan debts of an average $33,000. The
question everyone is asking now is college education worth it?
Is it worth it? The demand for higher education is ever increasing as competition in the job market
also increases. The rate of employment of college educated is twice that of the national average
compared to high school graduates. Employee counterparts who have college degrees receive
better pays than their counterparts with no degree. They are also known to retain their works for
longer and have a better perspective of the revolving issues.

railing around their deck. Railing height is solely a personal opinion. Think about what you want
out of your railing in order to figure out which height you will need.
Think About Safety
One of the great things about wrought iron railing is it comes in a varieties of sizes and options.
Therefore it can be pretty custom to your wishes. If you have a family, or little ones around at all,
you need to take their safety into consideration. As with all railing wrought iron has gaps between
each rail, you will want to make sure that this railing is close enough together that little heads can t
get stuck in the sections. Wrought iron can also contain a locking mechanism so that kids can t get
to the stairs. These are a few things to remember when taking safety into consideration.

Louis Pasteur Accomplishments
Louis Pasteur was a scientist. He led many scientific discoveries particularly in the study of
germs and living organisms. It is through the work of Pasteur that we know to wash our hands to
prevent that spread of germs, that medical instruments need to be sterilized, and his research on
germ theory led to the development of antibiotics. His initial motivation was a love of science, but
his research and life events led him to ask important science questions that begged to be answered.
After his initial research on crystallization and how polarized light passed through them he became
associated with another scientist named Biot. It was after testing Pasteur s theories that the two
became good friends and colleagues. Pasteur s work into the study of disease and vaccination was
further spurred on when two of his daughters died of typhoid.
Pasteur s study of crystallography gained him great recognition and he became the Dean of the
Faculty of Science Lille. In this school they were doing a great deal of research on the production
of alcohol by fermentation of the beetroot. At this time the theory of Liebig, that fermentation was a
chemical process, (Fleming) was being researched. Pasteur questioned this theory ... Show more

With Edward Jenner s discovery of the smallpox vaccination, Pasteur asked the questioned if a

experiments of trial and error were conducted and it was actually chickens that were injected with
an old culture that led Pasteur and his team to discover the vaccination for chicken cholera.

A Summary Of The Ancient Greek And The Byzantine Empires
Both the Ancient Greek and the Byzantine Empires have a long and familiar history with
warfare, acclimated to crushing losses and sweeping victories. In Greece, military action has
fended off the Persian invaders and brought warring city states deep set rivalries. Within the
Byzantine Empire, conquest has brought Rome back into the Roman Empire. Despite both
civilizations high esteem in military conquest and glory, they had contrasting views of warfare
and how their respective armies went to work. The Greek Classical Terracotta volute krater,
attributed to the Painter of the Woolly Satyr, illustrates two messy front line battles in separate
registers. Meanwhile, from the Early Byzantine period, the silver Plate with the Battle of David
and Goliath depicts not so much a battle between two armies, but rather a dramatic yet
organized duel, over the course of 3 registers. From these two pieces, one could all but assume
one statement: of the artists and commissioners of the terracotta volute krater and the Plate with
the Battle of David and Goliath, only those of the former have seen battle. In the terracotta
volute krater, the viewer immediately sees from any angle that there is indeed a raging battle
afoot in the register occupying the body of the vase. The amazonachae, a battle between the
mythical Amazon (a race of warrior women) and Greeks, were a popular subject of works,
particularly in Athens. On one face of the neck of the vase, there rages a fight between centaurs
and Lapiths. Meanwhile, the Byzantine Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath depicts the
titular duel from the holy text. Despite drawing the viewer s eyes to the larger middle register
depicting the biblical fight, the silver plate s top register begins the plate s narrative: David is
confronting the giant Goliath. More importantly, among the two holding their hands out in
blessing (thumb to ring finger), David has the the blessing of God (depicted as a hand descending
from the sky). In this narrative, David s victory is assured; after all, he has the approval of God;
such is not the case in the amazonachae nor the centauromachia depicted on the volute krater, in
which victory is still uncertain. Needless to say, these works of art do not

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Youtube
If a certain individual were to interrogate a select person about what they do during their free time,
their answer would probably be something between the lines of using the internet and anything else
related to it, because let s face it, our race has evolved into a technology dependent specie. The rise
of the internet has given way to more opportunities especially in the entertainment category which
resulted in more people turning to the internet and away from TV and movies. According to the
2011 Edelman Value, Engagement and Trust in the Era of Social Entertainment Survey, 56% of
U.S. citizens agreed that they frequently accessed the internet more than several years ago and 49%

Essay On Genetic Engineering Babies
The process of creating a designer baby is often questioned because of its shaky moral platform.
Though there are certainly some positive things that can be obtained from the use of genetic
engineering used on unborn babies, though there are questions on whether or not people are
choosing their babies genes for reasons relating to. This is because people will start choosing
their babies genes based on whether they want their children to be intelligent or sporty. This will
make people think that the designer babies are more superior from children that were made
naturally. Though there are people that are skeptical about people being able to choose the genetic
genes of their children there are positive to it such as it prevents genetic diseases such as down

risk of inherited medical conditions such as obesity, anaemia, diabetes, cancer, and many more.

By the late eighteenth century, the New World, which was still remote, had formed its own
complicated individual and national identities. Moreover, the disparate communities within Latin
America had established a unique culture characterized by its hybridity. A close reading of
Ignacio de Castro s From Spaniard and Indian, a Mestizo is born and Agostino Brunias s Planter

hybridity. Additionally, both objects specifically express Latin American hybridity for a white,
European class, likely as a means to demystify and boost the standing of the New World.

The Lottery Short Story Analysis
Shirley Jackson s short story The Lottery is about an unusual traditionalistic small town that
ironically gives the lottery a bad meaning. In the beginning of the story Jackson makes sure to
describe the setting of the story. Jackson starts the story off by saying The morning of June 27th
was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full summer day (1). This quote is very
misleading because Jackson gives her audience a false sense of a welcoming environment. The town
seems to be stuck in this traditionalistic way of doing things. When you think of the lotteryone
automatically thinks of money, but this story focuses more on the tragedy of the town. The
story sets place in the town square with the towns people all gathered to carry out the lottery.
The year is not stated but based on the description of the town s people one can assume that it is
post war time. We learn that the lottery is not a one town event, but it is conducted across
several towns. We expect it to be familiar to everyone since it seems to be a fun time for all the
town members. The story talks about how children in the town are collecting stones before the
lottery begins. Mr. Summers the conductor of the lottery is responsible for getting everything
ready for the lottery. The lottery takes about 2 hours but some towns take sometimes even days.
Once all the slips of paper are mixed in the box all the people from the list come up and draw a slip.
During the lottery everyone

Essay on The Myth of Sisyphus
The Myth of Sisyphus Sisyphus is the absurd hero. This man, sentenced to ceaselessly rolling a
rock to the top of a mountain and then watching it roll back down, is the epitome of the absurd
hero according to Camus. In retelling the Myth of Sisyphus, Camus is able to create an extremely
powerful image which sums up the intellectual discussion which comes before it in the book. We
are told that Sisyphus is the absurd hero as much through his passions as through his torture. His
scorn of the gods, his hatred of death, and his passion for life won him that unspeakable penalty in
which the whole being is exerted toward accomplishing nothing. (p.89). Sisyphus is conscious of
his troubles , and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these essays Camus looks the problem of suicide. In a shocking, unnerving manner he opens
with the bold statement that: There is but one truly serious philosophical problem and that is
suicide. (p. 3). He goes on to discover if suicide is a real answer to the human who is unhappy
with life. Or if life is worth living now that god is dead? The discussion begins and continues not
as a metaphysical cobweb but as a well reasoned statement based on a way of knowing which
Camus holds is the only epistemology we have at our command. We know only two things: This
heart within me I can feel, and I judge that it exists. This world I can touch, and I likewise judge
that it exists. There ends all my knowledge, and the rest is construction. (p. 14) With these as the
basic certainties of the human condition, Camus argues that there is no meaning to life. He
disapproves of the many philosophers who have played on words and pretended to believe that
refusing to grant a meaning to life necessarily leads to declaring that it is not worth living. (p.7)
Life has no absolute meaning. In spite of the human s irrational nostalgia for unity, for absolutes,
for a definite order and meaning to the not me of the universe, no such meaning exists in the silent,
indifferent universe. Between this yearning for meaning and eternal verities and the actual condition

Auto Title Lo An Auto Loan
An auto title loan is a type of secured loan where borrowers use their auto title as collateral. People
who get auto title loans must allow their lenders to place a lien on their vehicle title, and submit the
original copy of their car title temporarily, in exchange for a loan amount.
How to Get an Auto Title Loan
Unexpected emergencies are one of the most difficult things to budget for. If you own a car and
find yourself in unexpected situation that requires some extra money, you can always apply for an
auto title loan.
Here is how you can apply for a car title loan:
In order for you to qualify for an auto title loan, you must own the car being used as security and
the car must be paid off or nearly paid off. You will also be required to show proof of ownership as
well as your repayments on the vehicle before you qualify. The maximum amount of money that
can be given to you is based on the resale value of your vehicle, so if you have a newer vehicle in
good condition, you can qualify for a larger amount of money.
The next step is to look for a lender that you have confidence in and are comfortable to work
with. The lender you choose may consider your employment status and source of income when
determining approval. It s always important to have a secure source of income as this will assure
the lender that you will have no problems repaying the loaned amount. Most of the lenders usually
offer you 25 to 50 percent of the car s current market value.

The Transmogrification of Venus to Mary in the Works of...
The works of Sandro Botticelli are among the most revered of renaissance painting. The
sweeping curves of his women and the ethereal beauty of their gazes are recognized
instantaneously: from a grandmother in a small town to the cognoscenti of New York or Paris,
few can claim to be unmoved by his work. Patronized by the Vatican as well as one of the most
rich and powerful Florentines of his time, Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, Botticelli was
hugely popular in his own day. His most magnificent work, the Primavera, as well as The Birth of
Venus, Camilla and the Centaur, and Mars and Venus contain entirely mythological figures whose
significances have been debated by various art historians for centuries. Born as Alessandro di...

If you were to unite with her in wedlock and claim her as yours, she would make all your years
sweet (Hartt and Wilkins 378). This passage could have countless connotations. The one that
seems to make the most sense is that Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, upon the news of his
upcoming marriage to Semiramide d Appiano, asked Botticelli to paint the Primavera using the
figures that he did because they held a strong meaning for him since he received the
aforementioned letter (Venturi 72). The way Venus is used in this picture along with the Three
Graces, Mercury, Cupid, The Zephyr and Flora has mounds upon mounds of meanings. It is
truly Neo Platonic. There are so many meanings, that if taken out of context, Venus could mean
anything from lust to ideal beauty, to being the Goddess of April and gardens, along with Flora
(Dempsey 260 261). If it is to be a gift to the bride or the married couple, it could suggest fertility
being ushered in through Flora by way of Zephyr s actions. It could also be that the picture is
showing the bride certain virtues she must possess through the Three Graces and a virginal, pure
looking, wedding veiled Venus (see figure 2). The fact that there are, blossoming off of the orange
trees, ripe sumptuous fruits is congruent with the fertility theme as well as the fact that oranges
are part of the Medici coat of arms (Hartt and Watkins 379). Or is could be all of these ideas

Downsizing Healthcare
Downsizing Medical Care in the United States
Mary Carnahan
HA 303: Public Policy in Health Care
August 5, 2015
Introduction For one reason or another hospitals are closing their doors. In this paper we will look
at how the downsizing of hospitals is affecting medical care in the United States. Why have some
of these hospitals closed?
High Point Community Hospital Closing I personally haven t seen or heard of any hospitals
closing down in my area recently but I do remember back in 1985 High Point Community
Hospital, now High Point Regional (since 1996) closed their doors only to move next door to the
new hospital which offered 351 private beds, in 1985 the hospital had only had 100 private beds.

In my community High Point Regional went from a hospital with room for 12 patients and
employed four nurses and a housekeeper. The cost of a week s hospitalization was between $10
and $15 (High Point Regional 2015), in 1904 to 351 private beds for medical and surgical patients
serving over 120,000 patients each year, and 15 operating rooms. So I think in this case High Point
Regional is growing with the community.
Is Downsizing of Hospitals Affecting Medical Care in the United States? I also think a lot of
these community hospitals are downsizing and/ or closing is because with the new technologies
coming across the board, the smaller hospitals cannot afford the upgrades like the hospitals in
the big cities. Case in point, I use to live in Pennsylvania and in the county I lived in there are a
lot of very small towns. The hospital that was in our town Spangler Memorial was what everyone
call a Band Aid hospital because they were not equip for major surgeries or baby

  • 2. Improving Recall Of Declarative Memories Essay Napping: Improving Recall of Declarative Memories in Children Velo Vincent van Houden UC Berkeley Introduction Sleep has an undoubtedly profound effect on cognitive function and memory consolidation in young children. Policy makers have the ability to influence sleeping patterns in children by means of scheduling of classes and funding activities therefore research into sleeping patterns for optimal achievement is very important when considering the structure of early education. Extensive research exists showing the positive effects of napping on cognitive performance tasks but there is still somewhat of a gap in the quantitative information of adolescent napping via actimeter or electroencephalograph when analyzing the results of declarative memory recall as well as controlling for the effects of social interaction in lecture settings. Research on preschool children illustrated that sleep spindles in midday naps enhanced learning for memories acquired earlier that day (Kurdziel, Duclos Spencer, 2013). A similar study conducted with adolescents showed that napping enhanced the duration of declarative memories which demonstrates the continued benefits of napping through development (Lemos, Weissheimer Riberio 2014). A later study showed that nap schedules modulate children s motor learning in finger tapping exercises and facilitate skill retention for younger children (Ren, Guo, Yan, Liu, Jia, 2015). In another study, infants who were in a nap ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Beer Simulation Root Beer Simulation From what I could see, there were not multiple roles to play in this simulation; instead, everyone logging into the simulation appears to play the same role, which was that of the distributor ordering products from the manufacturer and attempting to get them to the customers. This is an important point, because in many ways a distributor has greater flexibility than a retailer and a manufacturer, but, in other ways, faces far greater constraints than business people in other positions. The distributor s role is to get stuff from a manufacturer or other wholesaler and then distribute that stuff to resellers. From reading the instructions, it appears that there are actually different roles to play in the project, but I actually logged in from different computers to see if I would get to play another role in the game, but every time I ended up in the distributor role. One of the interesting things about the simulation was that one did not start from scratch in the project. Instead, the simulation is already running and is in a certain week of production and distribution when the student enters into the stimulation. This means that the student gets both the benefit and the burden of work done by prior students. In my scenario, this ended up having a very detrimental impact on me, because I began with a tremendous backlog of product that my retailers had ordered from me. I cannot tell if the person before me was placing small orders or if they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike PCI DSS, HIPAA itself does not descend to the level of security controls and technologies to implement. This requires the organizations affected by HIPAA also known as covered entities to try to follow the spirit of the regulation as opposed to its letter (Chuvakin amp; Schmidt, 2013). The iTrust database contains protected health information and therefore identifies as a covered entity and must establish safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic data. Compliance with HIPAA security standards in the areas of administrative safeguards, physical safeguards, stored data safeguards, and technical security mechanisms are required for an entity to achieve HIPAA compliance. Lack of Access Control The lack of administrative safeguards that control information access management concluded that the iTrust website and database lack the appropriate access controls to protect and safeguard patient data. Access controls should enable authorized users to access the minimum necessary information needed to perform job functions (HHS, 2007). Additionally, every person accessing the system should have a unique account for accountability and auditing purposes. HIPAA does not publish a guide with the exact security controls to achieve compliance, which is the direct opposite of PCI DSS. Instead, HPIAA would rather an organization achieve compliance with a sincere aspiration to protect sensitive patient

[Optional: Who do you think was right and why? You may use extra lines if you would like to respond.] Houston fought for black civil rights through the legal system. He was a prominent black lawyer and believed that legal tradition inspired judicial restraint, whereas legal realism inspired judicial activism. This not only sparked a change in those that worked with Houston, but it incorporated using laws to help blacks with civil injustices wherever possible. DuBois approached school integration and civil rights issues through militant socialism. He believed that blacks needed to strengthen their own infrastructure in order to gain a better social structure. This didn t sit well with the NAACP. I believe that Houston had a better approach to the issue of school integration because his approach was accepted by more individuals. DuBois offended more people by saying that blacks needed to create a change amongst themselves in order to be accepted more in society. 4) The Supreme Court ruled on Sweatt v. Painter and McLaurin v. • 7. Mental And Physical Health Of College Students Literature Review: Mental and Physical Health of College Students Jackie Brocious Misericordia University Literature Review: Mental and Physical Health of College Students This paper is focused on the sub topic of mental and physical health of college students, either within healthcare related fields or general graduate programs. This sub topic is a branch of our group s research purpose of identifying the occupational therapy (OT) student s perception and confidence with an OT program and their preparedness within the field. A study done by Pfeifer, Kranz, and Scoggin (2008) at Texas Universityfocused on the perceived stress of OT students in an entry level master s program. The results from the interview revealed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was found that much of the cause of psychological distress came from the lack of clarity and transparency within the structure of the programs and study plans, and not with the quality of the teachers (Nerdrum et al., 2009). Jacob, Itzchak, and Raz (2013) stated that many healthcare students perceive themselves as working under a lot of pressure due to the demands of their programs. The students rated time demands of courses and the amount of material covered the highest indicators of stress within the academic factor (Jacob et al., 2013). In Norway, a survey reported that college students were at a greater risk of developing mental health problems than the general population (Bonsaksen, 2015). Female students were also twice as likely to report mental health problems compared to their male counterparts (Bonsaksen, 2015). At the end of the study, the male students had a higher satisfaction with the OT program, and had higher levels of self esteem and self efficacy (Bonsaksen, 2015). Bonsaksen (2015) also notes that regarding the self esteem measure, the students who spent most of their time on self study, acquired higher scores, which suggests that the female students, who tended to have a lower self esteem and self efficacy, could offset it by increasing self study. Holinka s (2015) study was determined to support other findings of how stress negatively correlates with college students life satisfaction. The analysis from her study ... • 8. German Secret Weapons of World War II German Secret Weapons of World War II Introduction German jets had many unique designs during World War II. These designs have fascinated many airplane designers since the end of the war. My purpose is not meant to praise the World War II Nazi Air Force, but to show how Germany developed these airplanes and how they used them. It was fortunate for the Allied powers of World War II and the world that the U.SA.F. Defeated the axis powers. If the allies had delayed entering the war a few more months, this would have allowed the Germans enough time to produce large amounts of these jet airplanes, and the outcome would certainly have been different or too close for comfort. German technology advances in modern warfare were more of a danger to the world that many would like to admit. We are very fortunate that Adolf Hitler made the mistakes he made in the design and production of these advanced airplanes. Adolf Hitler was responsible for making decisions that either slowed or stopped many of these jet projects. The airplanes Germany had before anyone else were faster than anything flying at the time. So why didn t Germany and the Axis powers win the war if this was true? The answer is that Allied powers produced more of the B 24 s the B 17 s and also P 51 Mustangs by the tens of thousands. The Allies also dropped thousands of tons of bombs on German airplane factories, until they destroyed all of the Nazi manufacturing plants and destroyed the entire German air force, along ... • 10. Analysis Of Allah Hu Akbar David Procter Formal Writing Allah Hu Akbar is portrayed as a war chant and terrorist motto by the media whenever there has been a conflict around the world with Muslims or others with Middle Eastern descent. But it is actually a prayer meaning God is great. The media is wrongly portraying Muslims as terrorists, Muslims follow the religion of Islam and since the attacks of 9/11 on the twin towers. Muslims, especially in America, are suffering from discrimination from babies being forced off domestic flights to American Muslims who were denied the second amendment of bearing arms. Even famous musicians have been denied entry in the U.S because of their Islamic name, and Muslims not being served un opened cans of Coca Cola as it could be used as a weapon . This prejudice is creating lethal stereotypes in today s society. The media have published articles that portray many Muslims as terrorists. This has made many Americans believe that Muslims all have connections to Al Qaeda and Taliban making everyone fear them in general. This discrimination is even effecting babies. Riyanna Abdullah was an 18 month old child who was flying on a JetBlue flight from Florida back to New Jersey. She was asked to leave the plane by flight attendants because she was on the no fly list. Riyanna shares the same name as a known terrorist (Islam uses similar names). There are 19 major world religions which are subdivided into a total of 270 large religious groups, and many smaller ones. 34,000 separate Christian groups have been identified in the world according to David Barrett. Religion is just faith or a belief system that people have. A belief system that dates back to early times is, Fatalism. Still seen today in popular movies, books, T.V. shows and other works of art, fatalism is the belief that, all things and events are inevitable. Movies like: The Breakfast Club, Dirty Dancing, and Serendipity all show examples of how fatalism is still real. In the movie, The Breakfast Club, which is based on five different high school students, all meeting each other in detention. It is significant that they all different stereotypes because it later shows how much they are truly alike although they are different. If in the movie, if the director would have used the same type of students it would not have had the same effect, how everyone is brought to one place by fate. Heroes And Non-Hodgkin s Lymphoma When you look up hero in the dictionary it reads: a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. If you were to ask a five year old what he or she thought a hero was, they would give you an answer like Superman or Captain America. I probably would have given the same type of answer. Now that I m older, I have a better understanding and different outlook on the word hero. In the definition it states typically a man . Besides my father, the rest of my heroes are women. Other people might know a ton of male figures that they consider heroes. That is great, but I feel like typically a man does not need to be in the definition of the word hero. • 13. Analysis Of This Way For The Gas Ladies And Gentlemen This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski, published in 1959, is a short story about a concentration camp prisoner s experience working on Canada, the group of inmates responsible for helping unload the incoming prisoner transports. The narrator bares witness to many atrocities throughout the story, which are made more impactful to the reader through Borowski s use of impactful dialogue, figurative language, casual and matter of fact tone, and repetition. These literary elements allow Borowski to draw the reader in more than he would otherwise, and make them feel almost as if they are experiencing the horrors along with him. With few exceptions, every line of dialogue in the passage starts on it s own new line. This, combined with a lack of says or said in most cases, gives the dialogue a pointed and natural feeling. This has a couple of effects on the reader. First, it allows the reader to be more invested in the characters and the narrative that is playing out. They are able to feel closer to the action because of a lack of Henri said or I said getting in the way every line. This helps with the flow of the story while it is being consumed. For example, Schade, too bad. Come, come, Herr Posten, isn t my word good enough any more? Haven t we done business before? How much? One hundred. Gemacht? Gemacht. (698) The dialogue above is casual and welcoming. In context, when the reader is aware it is a conversation between two characters, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Analysis Of Mcdonald s S Low Cost Industry To compare or contrast any industry, our text s author makes a clear distinction of the identification of the specific industry so the appropriate strategy can be identified. To ensure the strategy identification is not apples to oranges, he gives the example of McDonald s utilizing Porter s low cost strategy if it s in relation to all restaurants and not just fast food, but if the industry was fast food only with an organization like White Castle, McDonalds would be defined somewhere in the middle. Specific market industries are important in identifying the type of strategy an organization is utilizing and strategies are relative terms to the way in which the organization hopes to or actually fits into an industry. Porter s generic typology emphasizes low cost industries or how industries strategies differentiate their products in the industry through specific focus groups or to the market as a whole. Porter s typology is expressed in low cost (cost leadership) strategy (without focus), where typical quality and research and development standards are set a there is very little opportunity to improve either because of the cost driver scenario. Wal Mart is identified in our text as part of this group. Next is the focus low cost strategy, identified by low cost items with a specific niche. Essay about Lowering Population In India And South Asia Lowering Population in India and South Asia The problem of overpopulation exists nearly everywhere, and if it does not currently exist, it will in the near future. People are having several children, and that is greatly exceeding the death rate. This problem is especially apparent in South Asia, and it is causing several problems such as famine, epidemic, overcrowding, etc. The country of India is in dire need of aid in the decreasing of their population. To enforce the law, strict punishments including required military service for the father and the new son or large fines can be created. But limiting the amount of children allowed by law may seem kind of harsh. There are still other methods of lowering surface population in India. The Country of India has a GDP of 1.8 trillion dollars. A new tax dubbed, quot; The population tax quot; can be enacted, that for a small some of money monthly, can aid in the fight against over population in South Asia. The tax would do this by constructing free clinics with a variety of ways to help. The first of which is to provide the strictest confidentiality about anything that occurs inside. A barrage of free material as well as expert advise would be in the clinics for anyone to learn about safe sex, and anything else that needed to be there. Free contraceptives would be given. • 16. Disadvantages Of A Semi Structured Interview Section 1: Methodological Considerations Question 1 One advantage of a semi structured interview is that in the case of participants who tend to answer questions briefly, the interviewer can ask more open ended questions and cater the structure of the interview for the participant. The interviewer has a choice of which order to ask the questions in and how to ask them. For instance, in the transcript for the interview, the interviewer is being provided with one sentence yes/no replies in the beginning. Then, a few questions later, the interviewer asks a more detailed question that asks the participant how they manage their diabetes and who helps them. This prompts a more detailed response from the participant, who has now been asked to speak more freely about their experience with diabetes. Furthermore, for semi structured interviews, the interviewers can follow what the participants are saying and modify their questions accordingly. The interviewer can be prompted by something the participant has said, and explore that prompt further in their proceeding questions. For example, when the respondent states that they do their own finger prick blood test, the interviewer then explores that deeper by asking follow up questions such as what equipment the participant uses and the difference in their own materials versus the hospital s. Furthermore, in a semi structured interview, the participant might bring up interesting points the interviewer had not come across in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Description Of The Red Kangaroo Describing Movement The Red Kangaroo Introduction The Red Kangaroo Macropus rufus is the largest of the marsupial family residing across the deserts and grasslands of Australia (SDZG, 2011). The Red Kangaroo is a herbivorous species with an unusual method of locomotion, hopping, also known as saltatory locomotion; hopping is unique to members of the kangaroo and wallaby family (Dawson, 1995). A red kangaroo is capable of hopping at speeds of 30mph using its muscular hind legs to propel and tail as counterbalance and support (Marshall Cavendish Corporation, 2010). The kangaroo s body and musculoskeletal structure of large hindlimbs and short forelimbs has evolved to adapt to its hopping gait. Ancestors of the species were quadrupedal, the only exception to this evolutionary change is the smaller Musky Rat Kangaroo Hypsiprymnodon moschatus which still uses a quadrupedal plantigrade gait (Richardson, 2012). Why Hopping? It is commonly known that Australia is a large country, and with a total of 7,692,024 km2, it is the sixth largest country in the world (GA, 2014). Considering most of the land is arid, there is a limited amount of resources readily available for the grazing kangaroo, so it is necessary for it to be able to travel far distances efficiently to reach water before dehydrating. Kangaroos are prey animals, with the main predator being the Dingo with additional predation coming from commercial shooting for human consumption (Dawson, 1995), the Red Kangaroo has ... • 18. Essay about Health Care Reform in the United States Health Care Reform Health care has been an area of discussion for some time now. In the United States, the current health care system is a private system that allows individuals to choose their own method of care. Despite the freedom that comes with the independent nature of this type of health care system, the true disposition creates more problems than it solves. The privacy of the health care institutions has caused affordability and access to become serious issues with this system. Additionally, those with lower socioeconomic status fall short of the ability to access the same pool of resources as everyone else. These facts point out that the system currently at play is rather ineffective and therefore ought to be changed. Money plays a huge role in access, therefore it is a vital issue to discuss. Within the current system, lack of money results in lack of health care, which leaves thousands of people without any health care coverage. Between 2001 and 2005, the number of people paying for health insurance increased 30%, however income only raised 3% (Health Care Problems). Adequate income is a necessity and unfortunately that is not present. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, the average annual premium across the country is $16,000. Currently, the average annual income in the United States is $51,107. Mint Money Management suggests that about 4 6% of one s total income should be spent on insurance, including life, disability, and health insurance. However, the averages in the United States show that the average person spends about 31% of their income on health insurance, which is not financially beneficial. When this rise in health insurance is not parallel to the inflation of income, innocent people are left without a method to achieve health care. There is a program for those who can t afford health insurance out of pocket nor have access to it, and that is called Medicaid. Issues still exist with the program. There is only so much funding, which leaves many still uninsured. Additionally, people with Medicaid have difficulty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Boys from the age of 8 to 12 years old or even before they hit puberty would be castrated with the intention of saving their high pitched voices and they were now called castrati. The effects of this operation would vary depending on when it occurred. According to Tony Perrottet , if the castration occurred on before the age of 10, they often grew up with feminine features, smooth, hairless bodies, incipient breasts, infantile penis and a complete lack of sex drive. The father approved of the castrato until he married his daughter and could not reproduce. During the 18th century, castrati were also thought to have angel voices which was attractive to the audience. The infatuation with castrati and their voices overpowered the thought that castration for boys was unethical and so the operation continued. This contrasts to the belief that this operation in the present day violates a basic human right and is too unethical even with the results to continue. In the book White Noise by Don Delillo, readers experience the story of this kind of lie and it s consequences. It follows an introspective college professor and his dealings with his fear of death. It does so against the background of a busy family life, full of colorful characters. White Noise highlights the truths of humanity in a satirical fashion, expertly weaving the American dream into the troubled psyche of the main character, Jack. White Noise reveals that the modern tools of humanity are shallow protections against the reality of life and death. The role of blinding commercialism in people s lives is to provide comfort in its repetitiveness and thoughtlessness. Commercialism does not encourage deep thought by any means, it prays on the quick impulses of the human mind. Murray points this out when talking to Jack about his students and their dislike of television, Look at the wealth of data concealed in the grid, in the bright packaging, the jingles, the slice of life commercials, the products hurtling out of darkness, the coded messages and endless repetitions, like chants, like mantras. • 25. The Historical Context Of The Letter To The Colossians The letter to the Colossians was written by the apostle Paul. It is likely that Paul wrote the letter of Colossians in the late AD 50 s or 60 s, while he was imprisoned. This letter was written to a gentile church plant located in Colossae, a city of Rome. Paul planted churches in Ephesus which is 100 miles west from Colossae. However, it is improbable that Paul is the founder of the church of the Colossians since he was imprisoned at the time. For example, Paul said, Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, (Col. 4:10, ESV) indicating his imprisonment as he mentioned his fellow inmate. The book of Colossians is not the only prison epistle that Paul wrote; The book of Ephesians, the book of Philippians and the book of Philemon are all prison epistles. So, perhaps, it was Epaphras who planted the Colossians church. This exegetical study will explore the historical context of the Book of Colossians to understand why Paul exhorted and prayed for the Colossians to be filled with God s divine will. Colossians 1:9 14 is relevant in today s time because it proves that the power of intercessory prayer edifies the Church to defend the gospelfrom false teaching. • 26. The Value Of Love In Those Winter Sundays, By Robert Hayden Love, in any form, is such that people find ways of celebrating it. The American poet Robert Hayden honors this compelling emotion in the poem Those Winter Sundays. Those Winter Sundays is a fourteen line literary work that gives a description of an event from the speaker s past. Although the poem is a short description of an event past, much information can be read between the lines of few words. Freelance writer Jeannine Johnson characterizes Hayden s work to honor the value of loves simple, domestic services in our lives (Johnson). Moreover, the value of love in Those Winter Sundays is underlined by the use of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic sensory images to emphasize the change in the speaker s perspective of the events.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other than the title, the visual sensory images of the body of the poem also support the contrast and change in the speaker s perspective. The first stanza implies the eagerness of the father to carry out simple chores for his family as he does not fail to accomplish on Sundays the same task he tirelessly does on every other day of the week...On every day, Monday through Saturday, and even on Sundays too (Johnson, par. 1). The first line may denote the father s care, however, the nonchalance on the part of the speaker in Sundays too my father got up early (Hayden 1) is also apparent. It could be that the line is a mere statement of a simple recollection, but is also indicative of how the speaker trivializes the father s early morning efforts. If in the first line the speaker offhandedly remarks about the early morning efforts of the father, the speaker, in the following lines, shows more concern in sharing minute details about the condition in which the father carried out his morning tasks. In fact, the nonchalance in the first line suddenly changes as said line contributes to the intensity of the image of and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold, / then with cracked hands that ached/ from labor in the weekday weather made (Hayden 3 4). • 30. Diction In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke In the poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, he looks back in his memory as a child and explains the love he has for his father despite all the flaws his father holds. Roethke describes his emotions through this poem by using diction, imagery, and the use of tone. In the poem, Roethke uses diction that shows his emotions towards his father. In the first stanza, the poet says: The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy; But I hung on like death: Such waltzing was not easy. Even though his father is a drunk he still loves him. He says I hung on like death which emphasizes the bond he has with his father while they are waltzing together. This also shows a strong sense of loveand affection he has for him. Because his father s breath reeked of whiskey, it was hard for them to waltz with ease. Also, the poet somewhat describes pain in way as well when he uses the words battered and scraped in the third stanza. He uses these word battered because he s describing that his father s hands as worn out and beat up because he probably works really hard at his job which requires a lot of labor and the description of that word shows the reader that he works hard at what he does. With the word scraped, this shows pain because when the poet and his father waltz, his right ear scraped because his father was drunk on the whiskey and it made him a little dizzy and the poet most likely hit something which scraped his ear. The poet also uses the word romped ; this describes that the son and the father are having fun together waltzing even though they are being careless as they are bumping into the pots and pans in the kitchen which annoys the mother as described in the second stanza in the last two lines. With the use of imagery, the poet communicates to the reader the emotional bond between the father and his son. In the first stanza of the poem, the he illustrates a clear picture between the son and the father. The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy But I hung on like death Such waltzing was not easy. the poet is saying that the father may not be the best father in the world with his breath smelling like whiskey, but despite that, the son hangs on like death. • 37. Examples Of Delusion In Don Quixote Miguel Cervantes Don Quixote is a masterpiece in many senses of the word: at the time of its conception, it was hailed as a revolutionary work of literature that defined a genre, in later centuries regarded as an acerbic social commentary, a slightly misshapen romantic tragedy, and even as a synthesis of existentialist and post modernist features. At the centre of this Spanish satirical chronicle is the perplexing character Don Quixote. Don Quixote s personality and perspective is rapidly established fromsince the beginning of the novel, revealing unabashedly to readers that he is mad. The source of his madness lies in the extent to which Don Quixote acts on his delusions and projections unto reality as he saunters through Cervantes Andalusia. Don Quixote s delusions have two primary functions in the novel: demonstrating the reality and tragedy of Cervantes manifestation of idyllic themes of love and chivalry, and revealing certain characteristics about narration. A role of Don Quixote s delusions is to provide a glimpse into a situation where the chivalric code is implemented. Don Quixote is mad at first glance:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When specific geographic areas put their own needs and beliefs over the entire country, sectionalism is born. Sectionalism is an identification with a geographic section and the cultural, social, economic, and political interests of that section. Southerners relied on slaves to produce the cotton and considered those slaves as property, but Northerners felt that slavery was in violation of the Constitutional right to liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and equal rights. As the country expanded west and more states were added, there were more issues with sectionalism. When Missouri requested statehood, they wanted to be admitted as a slave state. If they had been allowed to join, the free states would have been outnumbered. Maine also wanted to become a free state. To keep the balance of the nation, Henry Clay suggested the Missouri Compromise that both states be admitted at the same time to keep the balance. (Cornell, p. 214) This action continued to keep the country divided based upon the regional attitudes of slavery, however, it did relieve the tension of what would happen if there wasn t a balance anymore. The Compromise of 1850 included the Fugitive Slave Law which also was an act of sectionalism. (Cornell, p. 347) Under this law, runaway slaves could not be free if they escaped to the North, but rather they must be returned to their owners. This law created more tension between the North and South because a Northerner could be held accountable for harboring a fugitive if they helped a slave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Records show that there has been an increase in college admission of up to 15 %, since the mid 90 s (Brennan, 2004). Better jobs, huge salaries, excellent perspective, good status and better lifestyle, are all promised to people considering to join colleges. However, there is a debate if they made the best decision to join and graduating from the college. The life that you would lead after college is a matter based on the program of study and the occupation you choose (Philip and Uros, 2013). The cost of pursuing higher educationis also a matter of contention which limits the level of study one can reach with some opting to drop out due to constraints in finances and others having to deal with loan debts of an average $33,000. The question everyone is asking now is college education worth it? Is it worth it? The demand for higher education is ever increasing as competition in the job market also increases. The rate of employment of college educated is twice that of the national average compared to high school graduates. Employee counterparts who have college degrees receive better pays than their counterparts with no degree. • 45. A Summary Of The Ancient Greek And The Byzantine Empires Both the Ancient Greek and the Byzantine Empires have a long and familiar history with warfare, acclimated to crushing losses and sweeping victories. In Greece, military action has fended off the Persian invaders and brought warring city states deep set rivalries. Within the Byzantine Empire, conquest has brought Rome back into the Roman Empire. Despite both civilizations high esteem in military conquest and glory, they had contrasting views of warfare and how their respective armies went to work. The Greek Classical Terracotta volute krater, attributed to the Painter of the Woolly Satyr, illustrates two messy front line battles in separate registers. Meanwhile, from the Early Byzantine period, the silver Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath depicts not so much a battle between two armies, but rather a dramatic yet organized duel, over the course of 3 registers. From these two pieces, one could all but assume one statement: of the artists and commissioners of the terracotta volute krater and the Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath, only those of the former have seen battle. In the terracotta volute krater, the viewer immediately sees from any angle that there is indeed a raging battle afoot in the register occupying the body of the vase. The amazonachae, a battle between the mythical Amazon (a race of warrior women) and Greeks, were a popular subject of works, particularly in Athens. On one face of the neck of the vase, there rages a fight between centaurs and Lapiths. Meanwhile, the Byzantine Plate with the Battle of David and Goliath depicts the titular duel from the holy text. Despite drawing the viewer s eyes to the larger middle register depicting the biblical fight, the silver plate s top register begins the plate s narrative: David is confronting the giant Goliath. More importantly, among the two holding their hands out in blessing (thumb to ring finger), David has the the blessing of God (depicted as a hand descending from the sky). In this narrative, David s victory is assured; after all, he has the approval of God; such is not the case in the amazonachae nor the centauromachia depicted on the volute krater, in which victory is still uncertain. The discussion begins and continues not as a metaphysical cobweb but as a well reasoned statement based on a way of knowing which Camus holds is the only epistemology we have at our command. The way Venus is used in this picture along with the Three Graces, Mercury, Cupid, The Zephyr and Flora has mounds upon mounds of meanings. It is truly Neo Platonic.
