The Vital Importance of Homework
Every prosperous person has attained their goals via this privileged activity which has been
practised for generations. Homework is beneficial for children of all ages; to learn new strategies
and theories. All schools give homework to enrich their students learning and to prepare them for
their soon to be successful futures. Vehemently, homeworkis an essential requirement for children,
adolescents or even adults! Generally speaking, according to research (Cooper, Robinson Patall,
2006), studies are showing us that academic achievement is improved in children who partake in
some after school work at home. Homework familiarises new concepts and encourages students to
strive for their highest. It gives them a sense of responsibility as they need to organise their time
to fit all activities. In that way homework would only be a minor, every day routine. If students
want to have a privileged lifestyle, they need to do their homework. Having helpful homework
here, is the key to victory, inviting us through a door to various opportunities in life! The journey of
a thousand miles begins with one step.
Essentially, homework is a beneficial component of life. Without it, there wouldn t be any jobs
around as we wouldn t be intelligent enough to pass the exams and courses needed to fill
positions. Some people may be innately gifted, but the aces who are hungry to succeed, will excel
higher. Homework is the fruit of education; we learn the methods at school and we revise and

Case Study Of Ivanoskaya Manufacture
Ivanoskaya Manufacture is a giant wool processing plant based in Russia. Counting 3300
employees it is one of the only wool processing plants in the country. The company is specialized
in various types of activities which form more than 30 separate units that act as smaller businesses,
every one with its own hierarchyand a strong up to down administration, with well defined rules and
procedures. Every department is characterized by highly knowledgeemployees that are specialized
in a very narrow market niche. Even thou the company offers a wide set of items, from woolen
blankets to screens and felts for paper machines, the production has suffered from the serious losses
that affected the industry.
When Maria Ivanova returned from her MBA in the UK to support the family business, she made

She can create self direct work teams and employee participation groups, stipulating rewards for
those who are willing to share their information. She must create a network, and encourage the

The shared and processed knowledge over the time will serve a strategic competitive advantage for
the organization.
Russian managers should listen to Francis Bacon that once said: knowledge is power. Knowledge
can be used for learning new things, solving problems, creating core competences and initiating
new situations for both individual and organizations . Maybe the first step for them should be

Compassion Fatigue In Nursing. Hunter M. Ledbetter....
Compassion Fatigue in Nursing Hunter M. Ledbetter Gardner Webb University HONOR CODE: I
have neither given nor received any help on this assignment. This assignment is original work and
not previously submitted work from another course. Introduction Compassion fatigue seems to be
an epidemic in the health care profession. Since nursing, more specifically, can be high paced and
full of stress, there is high risk for compassion fatigue. Kelly, Runge, Spencer (2015) argue that
compassion fatigue is the combination of burnout and secondary traumatic stress (p.523). Hunsaker,
Chen, Maughan, Heaston (2014) describe compassion fatigue as feelings of hopelessness and
apathy (p. 187), which interferes with the ability to perform... Show more content on

The surveys were numerically coded and only able to be accessed by the researchers. The
survey itself included thirty questions that were broken down into three categories about
education level, shift length, age, and experience. The categories were compassion satisfaction,
compassion fatigue, and burn out. Once the surveys were received by the researchers, the
information gathered was entered into the Statistical Package for the Social Science. Each
category from the survey was then computed into statistics. Out of the 1,000 surveys mailed out,
a total of 278 participated. The limitations of the study were a small sample size, low response
rate, and the variables were measured at one given time. The results of this study were primarily
women, white, married, and worked 12 hour shifts. The mean age of the participants were 44
years old. The years of working as a nurse ranged anywhere from 1 year to 48 years and the
largest number of nurses held a bachelor s degree, although it ranged from a diploma to
doctorate degrees. This study found that nurses who held higher levels of education, such as
master or doctorate degrees, had higher satisfaction in the workplace compared to those who held
lower level degrees, such as associates and bachelors. There was no clinical significance in the
number of years as a nurse and compassion fatigue, although there was a higher level of
satisfaction as a nurse who had been working longer than those who did not

The Sun Ernest Hemingway
Outside reading assignment
In the sun also rises Hemingway s character development of Jake Barnes helps us understand the
theme of this book. The way Hemingway does this is through the diction and character
development of Jake. Jakes character development is built through a character foil with Robert
Cohn, which emphasizes jakes character. Then this character development helps bring the reader to
the theme of identity.
Furthermore Ernest Hemingway builds the character of Jake by making him the character foil of
Robert Cohn which helps emphasize not only jakes character, but also Jake s flaw. Jakes flaw
can be interpreted through the character foil as him summiting to what life during the war was
like even after the war. Jakes flaw is caused by the hardships he endured during the war, which
makes Jake come to know nothing else. His life then was forever changed and lost hence the name
lost generation which is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see his insecurity when he says at the Cathedral, I was a little ashamed, and regretted that I
was such a rotten Catholic, but realized there was nothing I could do about it , which tells us that
he is conscious of his condition, but does nothing to fix it. It is evident that Jake doesn t want to
do anything about his problem because when he says, , at least not for a while, and maybe never ,
he knows the problem is there but dismisses it by saying never.
To conclude Jake in the sun also rises is important to the book s plot because Hemingway builds
Jake s character through a character foil to emphasize Jake s overall character, and that character
development contributes to the theme of identity which Jake thinks he has under control but
actually doesn t. The fact that he doesn t have his identity under control explains Jake s strong
acceptance to his past war

Review Of Paige Difiore s Poem Blood Relatives
Blood Relatives Paige DiFiore He wakes up to sunlight blaring through the blinds. It casts an
almost godly glow around his messy bedroom and it made him squint with annoyance. He
glances over at the alarm clock at his bedside and groans. Eight in the morning. Too early for
this. Too early to be awake. He makes a mental note to invest in sun blocking curtains, he yawns
but pauses when he notices that he s wearing a jacket. A jacket? When had he put that on?
Actually, had he never taken his jacket off last night? He always slept with no shirt on and it
wasn t even cold outside... Why is he wearing clothes? Did he never take them off? Then again, he
doesn t remember coming home at all. He slides off the muddy jacket and frowns as he tosses...

How to Die in Oregon
How to Die in Oregon
Portland, USA, 107 Min., 3/13/12 9PM (Watched online) How to Die in Oregon is an emotionally
charged, and intimate exploration of the controversial Death with Dignity Law passed in the state
of Oregon in 1994. How to Die in Oregon received the Grand Jury Prize in the U. S. Documentary
Competition at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, along with other countless accolades, and is
currently available as an HBO Original Film. In his film, filmmaker Peter Richardson, employs the
observational mode of documentary to witness how patients families and friends grapple with the
legal option of physician assisted suicide. In exploring the complexities surrounding this topic,
Richardson interviews doctors on both sides of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Richardson produced, directed and captured all the footage himself. The end result is a multitude of
powerful one on one interviews, archival footage of patients, and candid long takes. Richardson cuts
himself out of the interviews, and edits together strikingly frank sound bytes to showcase his
subjects talking about death and the affect of the law. His use of archival footage primarily
captures his patients when they were healthy, and provides a striking contrast as they seriously
discuss death towards the end of their lives. His use of candid long takes captures some of the
most poignant moments of the film, including the final minutes of one man s life after taking the
lethal drugs. The camera is a spectator in the room, as the man accompanied by his family; all face
his personal decision to die together. All of these different footage types work together to provide
emotional weight to an already troubling subject.
2)Richardson s non interventionist style is a prime example of observational documentary, and
works specifically well in capturing and promulgating the subject of death. According to Nichols,
observational documentaries started appearing in the 1960 s as result of more mobile and smaller
equipment. Furthermore, observational documentary stresses non intervention, as filmmakers
objectively observe indirect speech, candidness in the form of long takes, and create a world out of
historical reality not fabricated with

Archetypal Themes In Romeo And Juliet
Stories throughout history have used archetypal themes. These themes usually follow certain
elements. Sometimes, stories with certain themes alter elements in their own way. This is the
case for Ovid s short story Pyramus and Thisbe and Shakespeare s tragic drama The Tragedy of
Romeo and Juliet. Both of these stories share the archetypal theme of ill fated love, but use and
transform certain elements. Forbidden marriage( an element of ill fated love) has been altered
in Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. In Pyramus and Thisbe, Ovid wrote, ...in houses so close
together that one wall was common to both. Growing up thus side by side they learned to love
each other. They longed to marry, but their parents forbade. (Ovid) . This quote talks about how
Pyramus and Thisbe grew up as neighbor and a love began to blossom between them, but their
parents forbidden to marry. On the other hand, in The Tragedy Of Romeo and Juliet, this element
is altered. Romeo and Juliet weren t directly forbidden to marry, but their families were enemies.
This is told in the prologue of act 1 (Two households, both alike in dignity,/In fair Verona, where
we lay our scene,/From ancient grudge break to new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Romeo and Pyramus believe their maiden has meet their tragic demise. The cause of why

kindred s vault. (5.1.18 20) meaning Juliet has been put inside a vault were all Capulets are laid
to rest. This quote shows that Balthasar is unawared Juliet faked her death. In Pyramus and
Thisbe, Pyramus believes Thisbe dead after finding a lioness with Thisbe s cloak ripped and
covered in blood. Thisbe had actually left her cloak behind trying to run away from the lioness
while waiting for Pyramus under a

Swiss Family Johann Davis Wyss
Proverbs 22:6 says Train up a child in the way he should go . In The Swiss Family
Robinson , Johann Davis Wyss tells the story of a family shipwrecked on an uninhabited
Island. The Robinson family was in a unique situation where they could either fail or flourish.
Not only did they flourish, but the parents, especially the father, used every obstacle and every
day as an opportunity to teach their four sons to become proper, godly men. Wyss does not simply
tell a tale of adventure, but teaches lessons to the readers just as the Robinson father did with his
sons. All people, especially children, are in need of admonition. With guidance from their parents,
the boys became more obedient, diligent and wise men in each passing chapter. ... Show more

When on the island, they thanked God for the provisions that existed on the island. God was the
cornerstone of their lives. The father led them in prayer every morning before working, and every
night before sleeping. Throughout their excursions the father taught the boys parables when
applicable to circumstances such as the story of Cain and Able. While out in his
cajack , a storm rolled in and the family did not know what became of Fritz. Mother put her trust
in Him who alone can comfort (273). When Fritz is found, he is grateful for all God did for him.
At the beginning of the story Fritz only seemed impressed with his own designs, now he thanks the
Lord without priding himself his own abilities.
When one of the boys brought home his bounty with an air of pride the other boys became
jealous. The father chided the boy to not be boastful and reminded the other boys of the
importance of their work. Later, when Fritz brings back a fantastic bird the boys cheered Bravo!
Bravo! (286). In the beginning, the boys beat and killed many animals without putting a second

what specific field the institution helps students transition from education to profession. The two
colleges we will take a look at is California Polytechnic State University, in San Luis Obispo, and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of MOBA Games
A computer is an electronic device that manipulates information or data. It is used in many
different works, it has the ability to store, retrieve and process data. It is used for typing
documents, sending emails, playing games and browsing the Web. (GCF, 2014) The computer

Now a day computer is one of the most important things that people usually need. People don t

disadvantages of using computers. According to Khan, J. (2013) Computer changes the way of

There are some good effects MOBA Games brought. It can make the player think critically and
show cognitive ability, since this game is a real time strategy genre (Prensky, M., 2012). It
provides teamwork and leadership because one team should be oriented, and it improves the ability
of individual to communicate with their team and work to secure their objectives. Lastly, it can
control the emotions of the player (Granic, I. G., Lobel, A. L. Engels, R. E. 2014).
Spite of those advantages there are still many disadvantages that a player can get, through playing
MOBA Games. First thing that any computer games affect is the time management. Almost the
entire player wants to play more after playing computer games they don t mind the time that they
are consuming. Second is the sleep deprivation, since they are not aware of the time still they are
not aware how long they take playing computer games and mostly people used to play computer

Psychology At The University Of Southern Mississippi
While studying psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, I developed an interest in
youth psychological health and social well being. As an avid learner, I subsequently became
interested in clinical child research and joined Dr. Christopher T. Barry s Youth Personality and
Behavior (YPB) laboratory as a volunteer research assistant during my sophomore year of college.
After learning the dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as
adolescent, social, developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal
relationships, personality, and mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my
experiences in undergraduate research. For example, I participated in my first independent research
experience at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research
Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted research in the clinical/community division of the
psychology department, and my research focused on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and
perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental health service impacted the magnitude
of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a wealth of information about
tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in the Statistical Package for
Social Sciences (SPSS). SROP was a wonderful experience, and it catalyzed my progress as an
undergraduate researcher.
Shortly after my SROP experience, I began simultaneously

Their Eyes Were Watching God Traits
The novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston portrays important to possess
traits of self revelation, maturity, and courage through Janie s relationship with Joe Starks. These
traits are revealed through both marriage and death in the Floridian setting of Eatonville, all taking
place in the early 1900 s. Through this marriage, Janie is not only defined as a major characterin the
book, but she is turned into an independent but loving woman by both the beneficial and deterring
effects of Joe Starks.

The Love Story Of Jack And Rose
The main fictional aspect of the film was the love story between Jack and Rose, two people who
never actually traveled on the Titanic, or even existed. James Cameron envisaged the entire concept
of this love story during pre production, and uses the idea to manipulate the audience throughout the
entire film. Character development in the film was vital, as this led the audienceto care for what
actually happened to these people. The death of 1500 people was tragic, but without key characters
the audience feels no strong connection to what happens in the film. To make this connection even
more effective, he uses a flashbackand framing technique in the telling of the love story. He begins
the story in the presentday for the starting proportion of the film. He then uses a flashback
sequence to 1912 for the majority of the rest, and then cuts back to the present day for the
concluding part of the film. He also visits the present day a few times briefly during the main
chunk of the movie set in 1912, to make important links between the two different aged Roses .
The first 25 minutes of the film are shot entirely in the present day. The old Rose is shown as a
feeble old woman who is being flown out to help a deep sea recovery team in the finding of a
priceless diamond necklace. A drawing recovered from the ship of Rose by her lover Jack is
shown to the old Rose. The emotions shown by the actress playing her on the sight of this picture
conveys highly effectively to the

The Rise Of The 19th Century Essay
The 14th century Renaissance1 was a transformational period in European history during which
society experienced a resurgence of classical beliefs which altered Europe s literature, science,
religion, politics, and especially art. The word Renaissance is defined as a revival or rebirth; the
period before, known as the Middle Ages, was characterized by feudalism, power of the Catholic
Church, and plague. However, as a result of the widespread loss of life caused by the Black Death,
there was a rapid growth of commerce, invention, and scholarship. Both men and women returned
to classical values and its humanist style of thinking, the appreciation of human capabilities as
opposed to the divine or supernatural matters, and ultimately worked towards becoming a
Renaissanceman or woman . Those people who spent their lives expanding their horizons embodied
the core values of the period and influenced much of modern day society. Leonardo Da Vinciwas
one of the greatest of these Renaissance men; his principles and work the Vitruvian man, cannons,
the aerial screw, and the Mona Lisa shaped the Renaissance in many ways: socially, politically, and
theologically, and scientifically. His works not only represented the period, they affected the
continuance of the Renaissance.
Leonardo Da Vinci2 was born on April 15th, 1452 to a Florentine notary and an unmarried peasant
woman named Caterina out of wedlock in Anchiano, Tuscany. His mother considered him an

The way that this works is exactly like any other syllabus, except each grade has a zero after the
normal grade, so if it was 93 for an A, it would be 930 for an A in this class. Also what I gathered
from this is that, the attendance policy is completely different than in high school. It states, no more
than three absences are allowed. For each absence beyond the third, your grade will be dropped
one step. For example, if you have been absent four times and have a B average, you will be
assigned a B .if you are not prepared for class, e.g. You have no rough draft on peer review day,
or if you have been consistently late for class, you will be counted absent. Also if you do not
bring your books on a day that it is necessary, you will be marked absent. The workload for Mrs.
Browner s English 101 class appears to be immense, but when you actually read the schedule on
the syllabus, it is not a horrible amount but it is decent. The only time consuming piece of work
would be all of the editing and portfolio and reflection work. Along side of this work is a good
amount reading. In this class there is not a final, all you need to turn in is your portfolio and
reflections, which is only worth 50 of 1000 points. Unfortunately Mrs. Browner does not have any

correlations are involved in the process. Through post Marxism, postfeminism, post affirmative and

important in understanding the handling of cases in the system (Bellis, 2007). The explanations

This experiment was performed in order to help in the learning of the different types of reactions.
Through this experiment we also learned about precipitates: these are the solids that form during
a reaction. Making a hypothesis wasn t the easiest because there are a total of 6 different
experiments put all into one class activity. We hypothesized that each of these experiments will
give us either a synthesis or single replacement reaction. The variables weren t that hard to
determine; the independent variable were the reactants and the dependent variables were the
products of the reaction. The safety hazards were upped because we were dealing with harmful

Silver nitrate and copper metal led to the formation of silver precipitate. We also observed a
color change towards the bottom where the copper was located. These results support that the
type of reaction was single replacement. The second experiment with hydrochloric acid was an
example of decomposition. We observed that the substance started to bubble and so a gas was
produced. In the third experiment Iron oxide was formed. We observed rust on the outside as a
result of the oxygen combing with the iron. This can best be described as synthesis. In the next
experiment we discovered that calcium chloride and magnesium Sulfate produce a substance that
looks like milk after it foams. As a result, we contemplated that this was an example of double
replacement. In reaction 5 with Zinc and hydrochloric acid we saw that the new product was
introduced through bubbling. So we decided that this was single replacement. The final experiment
was the easiest experiment in my opinion. Closing the candle stick and flame with a beaker resulted
in visible smoke. In conclusion, we agreed that this reaction was combustion. We observed that

Disney Vertical Integration
The first type of media structure used by Disney that I will be talking about is vertical
integration. Vertical integration is where firms in a company are working at different stages but
on the same production path . For example Disney own Walt Disney studios, Sky walker sound,
Disney digital post and Touch stone pictures. All of these companies will work on the same
production but only in the area they are equipped for. For example the new Stars Wars film, Walt
Disneystudios will work on recording the content where as Sky walker sound will work on the
sound whilst the recording is going on. This is very effective as it speeds up the process of
production and it also means Disney can profit from every aspect of making movies as Disney
produce,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example the AOL company spent 186.2 billion on Time Warner when they merged in 2002
which made it the biggest merger ever. This was an unsuccessful merger as AOL based its model
on dial up modems but consumers were switching to broadband. So subscribers ended leaving
AOL and within 2 years AOL had about $99 billion wiped off its value. In 2009 the companies
were de merged
The advantages of merging with a company is you get shared power over the market, and also you
make profits from both companies so your money increases. The disadvantages of mergers are that
you will get a loss of experienced workers as one company already has one set of specific workers
and another company may have different people qualified for the same job so some people will get
fired. Also mergers wont always be successful (like the AOL Time Warner merger has shown) as
when your buying a share of a company your buying a belief, and beliefs aren t always

Comparing The Protest Song Glory By Common And John Legend
Protest Music is music everyone can relate to while they are protesting. When listening to
protest music everyone feels and embodies the same emotion. They are motivated to keep going
because they are all fighting for an injustice and the music is what helps them keep going. For
example, the song titled Glory by Common and John Legend is a great protest song, and it is
usually heard at Black Lives Matter protests today. Glory is a song about how there is still
inequality in America today, however, imagining that one day everyone will be considered equal,
and there will be no differences between races and genders. The song gives people hope, that one
day things will get better.
There is still racism and inequality in this country and African Americans are disproportionately
impacted by a lot of factors which include, discrimination by police officers, housing, job
opportunities, mass incarceration, and much more. Glory is such a great song to listen to at a
protest because there is so much history in the song, and people are ... Show more content on

The message is that African Americans are fighting so they can be seen and treated as equal.
They message is also to stand up against authority and take a stand and rise against oppression.
People at protests can relate to the lyrics and feel the pain that African Americans have gone
through, and they are angry. African Americans are taking a stand and saying enough is enough.
So, this is why Glory is a great song to play at a protest because people are inspired and feel like it
is their duty to walk the streets and call for a mandatory change. Glory is a powerful song, and
for the people listening, they know that there is still a lot of work to be done and that someday it

Does The Government Influence The Role Of The Church And...
While our Founding Fathers did not intend for the government to interfere with Church and
family roles, it is clear from America s history that this is exactly what has happened. Over the
past few centuries, the government has slowly taken over the roles of the Church and family.
The role of the Church is supposed to provide hope to the unreached and unsaved and be a place
to grow closer to God. The role of the family is to provide care for one another and connect to each
other on a personal level. The governmenthas slowly been taking these roles away and replacing it
with their own laws and regulations. Over the years, the United Statesgovernment has slowly
usurped the roles of the Church and family system and removed God from many things, causing
Americans to put... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has changed to the government overtaking the roles of the Church and family. First of all,
the government has had a major impact on the Church. People have come to trust the government
rather than trusting the Church. There are many reasons for this including: if there are no jobs,
people go to the government s welfare; if you need food, you get food stamps instead of relying
on the Church; and if you need medical support, you get Medicaid instead of relying on the
Church for support. The government has also taken away the right of talking about God in the
public school system. Instead of schools allowing free speech, there are certain requirements about
what can and cannot be talked about. Since the government operates the public schools, they get to
decide what to teach the kids, even if it is not Spiritually related. Furthermore, giving taxes to the
Church is hard to do when you have to pay the Government about 30% of your income. The Bible
tells us to give 10% of our income to God. Overall, the government has replaced religion with
science, and people put their trust in the government rather than the Church. Next, the government
has replaced the roles of the

Hosea And Goman Analysis
In the biblical story of Hosea and Gomer, Hosea shows his unwavering faithfulness to his wife
Gomer and to God. Hosea in this story, fully demonstrates the term chesed which means showing
an unwavering faithfulness to people who are unfaithful. Gomer a former prostitute, leaves her
husband and sells herself back into prostitution. Hosea then goes out looking for Gomer and
eventually buys his wife out of prostitution. Hosea in the story is a direct reflection of God
because; he shows God s chesed, he replicates God s love to all races and backgrounds, and he
shows how God doesn t put a price on love and salvation. As stated earlier Hosea showed
faithfulness to Gomer, who in reality did not deserve Hosea s faithfulness. However, Hosea acted...

Hosea had to pay for what he already had, but that was not a factor in his decision. Whether the
price was fifteen shekels or a hundred shekels that would not have changed the mind of Hosea.
Today I think that we all put a huge emphasis on money and the idea of what s in it for me.
Hosea saw that he was saving his wife from being sold back into prostitution, and gave her a safe
place to live. Most people would see that Hosea gets nothing out of the deal, but Hosea saw that
the deal couldn t have gone any better. This story of Hosea buying back what he owns
foreshadows God buying back his Kingdom in the New Testament. God had to buy back his
Kingdom, which he already owned and he paid for this with his Son Jesus Christ. God doesn t give
any challenges that he wouldn t challenge himself with, and in this story he challenged Hosea and
Hosea accepted this challenge and thrived with

Thanks To Personal Computing Developing Into A Revolutionary
Thanks to personal computing developing into a revolutionary innovation in the early 1970s, 3D
printing was made possible in the late 1980 s. 3D printing technology was at one point only
available for the business elites because of its high cost and limited production by few companies.
This technology in the the late 1980s began as a new additive manufacturing, changing and
speeding up what use to be subtractive manufacturing. Subtractive manufacturing relied on tooling
and assembly lines since it began, 3D printinghowever made it possible for companies to fabricate
prototypes on demand. However 3D printing is no longer limited to manufacturing, but has

Stephanie Crawford says SLA Printers work by a focused beam of UV rays on the surface of the
object to be recreated. The CAD designed object is filled with what s called resin
(photopolymer). When the light hits the resin, the liquid hardens to form a high resolution 3D
model of the object that you designed. Hull, a few years later co found 3D Systems Corporation,
one of the first companies to sell a high end 3D printer and still is one of the leading companies
with this technology today. Charles Hull s first RP system, the SLA 1, was revealed in 1987
and quickly followed ongoing testing until this system was sold in 1988. As always after new
technology is discovered, there is always new competition, in 1987, Carl Deckard, who at the time
was working for University of Texas, filed a patent in the US for the Selective Laser Sintering
(SLS). SLS method is somewhat similar to stereolithography (SLA) but instead of using liquid
resin, you can use powdered material in the instead. SLS made it possible to use a variety of
materials ceramics, nylon, aluminum, glass and steel or silver. In 1989 another new Printing

used by beginners in 3D printing do to its easy refillable and cheap material. FDM works by melted

A Trip On A Family Vacation At California, Disneyland, The...
I ve been on a family vacation for ten days that included a road trip to California, Disneyland, the
beach, and a family reunion camping trip. It was a pretty ambitious trip and has provided an
interesting reflection on budgeting budgeting time, budgeting money, and budgeting food. I read
an article recently that said the biggest reason people are late is that they are too optimistic. I
laughed out loud when I read that. I so often optimistically try to fit in one more thing before I
leave and then end up leaving late or I get too optimistic about there not being any traffic and then
I am shocked when I hit traffic and arrive late. Truly budgeting time in a way that makes me not
late means budgeting for contingencies, allowing room for things to go wrong, and knowing
everything will not go as planned, but still being able to arrive on time. I have to put extra time into
my time budget, or I run out of time too soon.
I think the same is true for food and money too. I have to plan for contingencies, know
everything will not go as planned, and add in extra room when I can. I took money expert Dave
Ramsey s Financial Peace University class just before I left on vacation and so made an effort to
budget my vacation money the way he recommends, using envelopes for each category. I
separated our travel food budget into 10 envelopes, one for each day of the trip, and put cash into
each envelope to use on food each day. What a challenge that has been! There have been meals

Los dos tienen obsesiones que no coinciden. Ambos persiguen a una persona que esta diez pasos

AquГ es donde pienso que Laura Restrepo intenta romper con el esquema clГЎsico o comГєn del

The Mysterious Tale Of King Arthur s Myth
A story of my chivalry, love, magic, and betrayal; that is the mysterious tale of King Arthur. The
myth of King Arthur is an exciting, tale that is based in the medieval ages. There is a lot of
debate on whether Arthur was a real person, if he was based off of a person who lived during
that time period, or if he was simply just an idea; regardless he impacted that era, and continues to
be a popular legend even today. According to legend the birth of Arthur happened because of

The Odyssey by Homer
As society has progressed, composers have adapted and appropriated the archetypal quest so as to
reflect the values of the time s culture appropriately. This has been a necessary course of action, to
ensure their writing conveys the quest and its respective elements in a manner that will be
understood by the responder in the relevant time period. The texts The Odyssey(Homer 8th Century
BC), In the Shadow of No Towers (Art Spiegelman 2004) and The Picture of Dorian Gray (Oscar
Wilde 1890) have appropriated the archetypal quest in their respective time periods to reflect the
values of their context.

I wanted to sort out the fragments of what I d experienced from the media images that threatened
to engulf what I actually saw, and the collage like nature of a newspaper page encouraged my
impulse to juxtapose my fragmentary thoughts in different styles This quote from the author
enables the responder to develop further insight into Art s reasoning behind how he has structured
the comics, and why he chose to create them. The time period after September 11 in which the
comic was devised and then published was the beginning of a very invasive media presence. The
way in which the media dramatized its information, and bombard its audience with it, made it very
hard for one to distinguish between the facts of events, and the images the media would present us
with. This is very much evident in Art s somewhat satirical and cynical representation of the media.
Another theme that is prevalent throughout his work, is the idea that the government s ideas and
policies were heavily engrained into the American media. On one of his splash pages, he depicts
himself as a downtrodden writer, who is walking with his head down, his clothes and beard are
shown to be dishevelled. He says Despair slows me down, so I worry whether NYC, or I, will still
be around to see if my page was well printed . The use of several commas allows this to be read as
if Art is speaking aloud, these are thoughts being projected straight out, without pause or mental
editing. This gives

Acadian Natives
Acadians are the descendants of a group of French speaking settlers who migrated from coastal
France in the late sixteenth century to establish a French colony called Acadia in the maritime
provinces of Canada and part of what is now the state of Maine. Forced out by the British in the mid
sixteenth century, a few settlers remained in Maine, but most resettled in southern Louisianaand are
popularly known as Cajuns.
Before 1713, Acadia was a French colony pioneered mostly by settlers from the coastal provinces
of Brittany, Normandy, Picardy, and Poitou a region that suffered great hardships in the late
sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. In 1628, famine and plague followed the end of a
series of religious wars between Catholics and Protestants. When social tensions in coastal France
ripened, more than 10,000 people left for the colony founded by Samuel Champlain in 1604
known as La Cadie or Acadia. The area, which included what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick,
Prince Edward Island, and part of Maine, was one of the first European colonies in North America.

Compare And Contrast Cyrano De Bergerac
A great nose may be an index of a great soul (Rostand 30). This quote by Cyrano is one of many
interesting quotes that the play Cyrano de Bergerac contains. The play is a dramatic comedy
written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand about a cadet named Cyrano who has fallen in love with the
beautiful women Roxane. On the contrary, Roxanne, which is a movie based off of the play
Cyrano de Bergerac, takes place in the 1980 s and takes the same plot. The two stories have many
comparisons and contrast in many ways. One example of this is between the two characters
Cyrano and C.D. Both Cyrano and C.D are known for their incredible ability at doing their jobs.
Cyrano is known for being one of the best cadets to ever live and C.D is an excellent Fire Chief.

Human Struggle In The Tokyo Story
In Ozu s film, the Tokyo Story, has many scenes that define the human struggle, such as the struggle
to make a living, aging and death of loved ones, and the way children eventually fall apart from
their parents when they get older. The one human struggle from Ozu s film that influenced the most
empathy is the inevitable truth of life that the strugglefor survival in society eventually drifts
individuals apart such as parents and they re children when they begin to live independently and
become to take care for only themselves because of their daily busy lives.
From this film, Ozu introduces a few scenes to compare the similarities of different generations
in the relationship between children and parents. The first scene that begins this comparison is
when Koichi s son, Minoru, had high hopes of going sightseeing with his parents and
grandparents, but when suddenly Koichi had to go see his sick patient and the plans got
cancelled, Minoru was very disappointed and angry with his parents because he mentions that
they always say they will go next time, but they never seem to keep their words. Ozu includes
this scene to show how often parents never seem to keep their promises with their children
because they re constantly busy with their own things and not have enough free time to spend
time with them. It s just like in reality where parents that struggle financially tend to spend more
time at work than at home, thus they never seem to have the time or use their precious time to
take their children out because it always involves money. We can understand from both sides of
perspective, as the parent and as the child. Many of us as a child have surely experienced the
samething atleast one time in our life when our parents never kept they re words and seemed too
busy to play with us. If it were from a wealthy family the parents wouldn t have to worry about
spending they re money and consume most of their time at work. They would most likely go out
more often with their children and take them to places like Disneyland or Legoland such as most
families today. When Ozu included the scene when right before they were ready to go out for
sightseeing and the patient comes in to see Koichi, shows us that this family is

Man Carrying Thing By Wallace Stevens
September 11,2001 was one of the saddest days in American history. As everyone knows,
September 11, 2001 was the day that shook the world. It didn t only affect the US but everyone
around the world. The people in those buildings were not only Americans but people of every
nationality. I don t think that one person knew exactly how to react or think. This tragedy is
something that should have never happened from the start. However, it did. Most of America can
tell you that they remember exactly what they were doing and where they were on September
11th. Unfortunately, for kids my age, we were just too young to remember the devastating events
that happened on this day. Even though it may seem as though many people lost their lives in
these tragic events, we have to remember that hundreds and thousands were saved. However,

This ties into the Jumpers sculpture because she used paper to represent the people. We all

people jumped to their death but we had to realize and accept it. In conclusion, we can see that
Melinda Hoffman used many objects and symbolism to represent a terrible tragedy that happened.

an important part of the atmosphere and is one aspects many students consider when choosing a
school.
Scholarships are something that are often associated with the thought of college athletics, and are
used as a way to bring individuals to a particular university. These are an important part of
building a team of the best athletes possible. At the University of South Florida, scholarship
opportunities for cheerleaders are very minimal. With $24,000 yearly given to this team for this
purpose, $500 maximum is available to each student ( Operating Budget ). Due to this lack of
funding, many members of the team must have outside jobs in order to make do throughout the
school year. Having a job, as well as participating in the 25+ hours of cheerleading related activities,
and maintaining eligibility GPA can put a large strain on the athlete ( USF Spirit Squads ).
Recruitment budget is also an important aspect of continual growth of a team and a way to bring
new students to the university. Third year veteran, Michaela Jones, provided insight into the

Negative Effects Of Social Media Essay
Social media in this day and age weighs heavy on our everyday lives. Society tends to spend way
too much time on their mobile devices and computers on social media of all sorts including but not
limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. It can create unwanted problems in relationships,

biggest issues this society has. Another issue social media causes, it makes us lazy as a whole.
We lose the ability to spell, use proper grammar, or even punctuation. One of the biggest
problems with social media is the unwanted problems in a relationship. People spend way too
much time on their devices and instead of spending their much needed free time with their

help with some everyday activities but during family time can be unacceptable for some people
and may actually hurt their feelings. This can also make the other party feel unimportant or

Analysis: There s a peculiar trend that is beginning to appear in recent popular culture, and it has
to deal with one word: girl. Take, for example, this small list of contemporary, popular titles,
including Cecily von Ziegesar s Gossip Girl, Amy Sherman Palladino s Gilmore Girls, Gillian
Flynn s Gone Girl, Paula Hawkins The Girl on the Train, Lena Dunham s Girls, Disney Channel s
Girl Meets World, Stieg Larsson s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Fox Network s New Girl, CBS
s 2 Broke Girls, The CW s Supergirl, Tina Fey s Mean Girls... The list goes on. These popular
books, televisionshows, and movies all feature middle to upper class white girls and women in
their late teens and early twenties. The girls tend to be surrounded by drama... Show more content

A little over halfway through the novel, Gossip Girl sends out a blast which accuses N, more
commonly known as Nate Archibald, of buying marijuana in Central Park, as well as reporting
that B, Blair Waldorf, was supposedly seen buying condoms and getting a Brazilian waxing. She
ends the post by implicating that two other girls from their school are gaining too much weight
(von Ziegesar 81 82). None of these events have been proven to be true, but New York teens take
them and run with them, anyway. Rumors are spread, fights and scandals ensue, and the readers
beloved characters, inevitably, get hurt. This brings back the common theme of drama that
surrounds all of the girls and women in the girl titles mentioned earlier. Series like Gossip Girl
and Gilmore Girls are so popular because they are so easily accessible to their audience: women.
Every girl in the world has faced a scandal in her lifetime, true or not. It can cause serious
emotional, sometimes even physical, trauma that may last years. Seeing characters like the ones
in Cecily von Ziegesar s world who are seemingly perfect on the outside face the same difficulties
as other women adds complexity to their lives and allows them to be easily

Psalm 23 Sermon On The Mount
In the bible, people read it often and most of them like to share scriptures that they think is very
important to them because it gets stuck deep down in people s minds. When it gets stuck, that is
when people come out of their comfort zone to reach out to others and read the portions. Psalms
23 and The Sermon on the Mount are one of these scriptures that get stuck deep down in people s
minds. These two found in the Bible, are known for the Shepard of the people, relating to the Lord.

The Tale the Heart Tells
Poe s use of the first person point of view and a suspenseful tone, present in the mind of the
narrator, illustrates his distressed mental state to show the overpowering effects of insanity, which
influences the narrator s perception of the old man as his double. Immense insanity influences the
narrator s identification with the diseased old man, and one night he relates their moans of terror:
I knew the sound well. Many a night, just at midnight, when all the world slept, it has welled up
from my own bosom, deepening, with its dreadful echo, the terrors that distracted me. I say I knew
it well. I knew what the old man felt and pitied him although I chuckled at heart (Poe 2). The
narratorsees the man as his double through such an emphasis on their similar features, which later
becomes crucial as the narrator feels the need for the displacement of his fear. The fact that the old
man s fear is warranted due to his existence in actual physical danger serves to show that the
narrator s feeling of an association with the man through a bond of recurring paranoiais unjustified
due to such sane and normal feelings of apprehension in only this circumstance. His perceived
association with the man and constant feelings of fear, lead to his logical conclusion based off of
his own feelings of self loathing and self hatred that he would actually be doing the man a great
service by killing him, an action in which he also temporarily soothes his own agitations through a
transference

to rest the neck or a neck pillow at night. Physical therapy may be used and neck traction may be
used in order to reduce the compression of the nerve root. A short burst of oral steroids may be
used however no controlled studies have been done to prove their effectiveness. Dosages of
60mg of oral steroids for 7 days may be used to help alleviate inflammation (Malanga, 2016). To
further help reduce inflammation icing and nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)

The Colombian Culture
The Colombian culture is formed from the inheritance of the indigenous peoples present in the
territory since ancient times, the Spanish traditions adopted during the colonial period and the
African Customs incorporated by the slaves that led the conquistadors. This mixture of cultures
constitutes a society with traits common to the rest of Latin American countries but, at the same
time, very different also. Indeed, even within Colombias own territory there are many differences
between regions and others. Geographic diversity can be found from tropical beaches to mountains
of more than 5,000 meters in height with perpetual snows and the natural isolation of some areas
has led to this diversity. Some of the most important cultural groups according to their location are
the so called cops, located in the Altiplano Cundiboyacense; the countries, settled in Antioquia; The
foresters, Settlers of the eastern plains; the Vallunos, settled in the area of Valle del Cauca; the
coastal, inhabitants of the Caribbean coast, and the Santander, residents of the departments of
Santander and Norte de Santander. All these groups are characterized by showing great cultural
differences among themselves, which makes Colombia a fascinating country to know and enter
into the day to day of its inhabitants. Given these circumstances in the country there is a rich
variety of fauna and flora, since the quantities of species find their habitat in different regions of the

Review Of Index Building Methodologies Essay

Review of Index Building Methodologies
Introduction:
In recent decades, academics, policymakers and non governmental organizations have placed
greater focus on establishing more comprehensive metrics of well being and development ##.
Measures of national welfare have conventionally centered on a fairly narrow band of economic
considerations, such as gross domestic product (GDP) and employment rate. Poverty and wellbeing
are now widely understood as multifaceted concepts which cannot be adequately described through
measurements of income alone. Economists and development experts are faced with the challenge
of constructing metrics to distill the various components of wellbeing into an easily comparable
index. The following summarizes the most salient contemporary methods of index construction and
provide a brief overview of their strengths and weaknesses.
Transformation Functions: In order to build a multi dimensional index it is first necessary to
convert the various components deemed relevant into a comparable, aggregatable set of units.
That is, to find a way to bring variables like average income (which may be expect to fall in the
range of tens of thousands of dollars) and life expectancy (which would rarely exceed 90 years) into
the same scale of measurement. The mathematical tools used to accomplish this task are known as
transformation functions. We can sort the transformation functions which are relevant to index
formation into five

Essay on Benjamin Franklin Gender Roles
Gender and the Age of Reason
In these two books, we have the story of a young man coming of age and finding success in the
world and the story of a young woman coming of age and failing to do so. In either book, what
gender roles prevailed?
In The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, we are reading the path that one man took to go from
a middle class child to a well respected adult. Benjamin Franklin created what we know today as
the American dream. Today we understand the American dream to be that one can go from rags to
riches with a little hard work. The autobiography is based around the age of reason and a time man
was thought to be able to be perfected by means of science and invention. The Autobiography of

Benjamin Franklin is known as a political figure and scientist/inventor. Learning the importance of
debate at such a young age clearly served him in great and many ways. Benjamin Franklin spent
his teen years practicing his writing. In 1720, James started a newspaper known as the New
England Courant. According to Franklin, this was the second newspaper in America. Franklin
worked as a delivery boy and would publish his own writings anonymously. Franklin often disputed
politics and books with another bookish lad by the name of John Collins. One of their arguments
speaks directly about the female gender during the 1700 s. A question was once, somehow or
other, started between Collins and me, of the propriety of educating the female sex in learning,
and their abilities for study. He was of opinion that it was improper... (Franklin, Benjamin. The
Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. New York: Bantam Books, 1982, pg 14.) Collins shares the
same views and mentalities that many men of the 1700 s shared. At the time, it was understood
that education and teaching was not to be wasted on women. Not only was it a waste but Collins
specifically states that it is improper. I took to the contrary side, perhaps a little for disputes sake.
(Franklin. The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, 14.) This statement, made by Benjamin
Franklin, is of great importance. He goes against the general population, whether by choice or

State lottery is indispensable to the government budget, with an annual contribution of over 75

The River-Merchant s Wife A Letter By Ezra Pound
There is a relationship between poetry and sexual desires because there can be an underlying
message showing sexual desires . This relates to The River Merchant s Wife A Letter Ezra Pound,
where it shows the girl impatiently waiting for her husband to come and fulfil her sexual desires.
Pound portrays his underlying message of sexual enlightenment through symbolisms, imageries and
syntax. Even Though from the surface, this poem may look romantic, but it actually has sexual
interpretations. The River Merchant s Wife A Letter shows the wife s emotional growth throughout
the poem. The narrator goes from childhood; where she was naive then to womanhood, where she
became erotic. As the wife grows older, she becomes more erotic in the absence... Show more

Which means that her womanhood has not been touched in quite some time. The river merchant s
wife is not pleased with the fact that she is getting older, and is scared that her time is running out:
The leaves fall early this autumn, in wind (22). This quotation states that autumn is already starting,
which is making the wife anxious. Another line that shows the narrator s letter to her husband is
about her sexual wishes is when she says, The paired butterflies are already yellow with August
(22). The butterflies are hurting her because they are paired and possibly mating as she is not . The
butterflies are becoming yellow transforming with the season, growing older together. The
butterflies distress her because they accentuate the pain of her realization that she is growing older,
but alone, not with her husband. Which means that seeing the butterflies mate, hurting the wife
because she is constantly thinking about sex. Pound transitioning/ending his poem to Autumn is
another example of symbolism, which helps the reader to understand the narrator s feelings and
her womanhood journey. Autumn is when greenery slowly withered away, when the leaves fall
and the air grows cold, which could represent the wife s feelings from the inside. The picture of the
leaves falling seems to increase the anxiety the wife is feeling. The

Hamlet s Existential Crisis
When looking at Hamlet, one could say that William Shakespeare put the play together as a very
cathartic tragedy. The emotional result of dealing with so many deaths brings on a plethora of
emotions which are not usually felt in a typical play. Hamlet begins not with the normal
prosperity and good fortune as do most tragedies, but with a more stifling and depressing sort of
mood (Tekany 115). However, something else could be said about this play as well. The play
centers on Hamletand his existential characteristics, such as angst, isolation and his confrontations
with nothingness. The exhibition of these characteristics proves Hamlet to be an existential
character. The idea of Hamlet s father s (King Hamlet of Denmark) passing is what begins the cycle
of existential thoughts and feelings within him. From the conflict raging inside Hamlet, stemming
from the loss of his father, blooms the beginnings of a bigger, overall existential conflict that soon
leads to his cathartic downfall. He visits places filled with nothingness and abhorrence with a sense
of frailty and pulsating frustration. Hamlet s existential crisis begins with the death of his father
and the remarrying of his mother. At this point, for Hamlet, the questions start pouring in; to be or
not to be (Hamlet 3.1.57), and so on. From questioning his existence and fighting with himself
about the purpose of his life begins to show the beginnings of the existential crisis that is soon to
consume him. Also, this

Biblical Interpretations Of Samson s Biblical Quotions
Biblical Quotations
Samson broke one of his three Nazirite vows: eating anything that is unclean, especially
anything associated with the corpse of an animal or human. His vows are brought up earlier in
Judges 13 and even earlier in Numbers 6: 6 8 and Samson breaks this vow in Judges 14: 5 9. This is
where the narrator is speaking and says starting in verse 8, he turned aside to see the carcass of
the lion, and there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. He scraped it out into
his hands, eating as he went (NRSV).
Samson seems to break another Nazirite vow in Judges 14: 10 11 when the narrator says, Samson s
father goes down to arrange for the marriage, and Same made a feast was was the custom for
weddings. The word feast in this context suggests a drinking fest the Nazirite vow says in Judges
13:4, be careful not to drunk wine or strong drink and clarifies more in Number 6: 3 4.
Foreshadowing
In the TLB version, Samson s parents ask him right away in the beginning, Why must you go and
get a wife from these heathen Philistines? From experience, my parents seem to always be right,
so after reading that dialogue, I saw some foreshadowing to Samson s wife doing bad things.
When he is basing his riddle off of a story, the vocabulary and motifs foreshadow the ultimately
deadly encounter between Samson and the Philistines if I were to keep reading into chapter 15.
The riddle also tragically foreshadows his demise by revealing that

Every department is characterized by highly knowledgeemployees that are specialized in a very narrow market niche. Even thou the company offers a wide set of items, from woolen blankets to screens and felts for paper machines, the production has suffered from the serious losses that affected the industry. Ledbetter Gardner Webb University HONOR CODE: I have neither given nor received any help on this assignment. This assignment is original work and not previously submitted work from another course. Introduction Compassion fatigue seems to be an epidemic in the health care profession. Since nursing, more specifically, can be high paced and full of stress, there is high risk for compassion fatigue. Kelly, Runge, Spencer (2015) argue that compassion fatigue is the combination of burnout and secondary traumatic stress (p.523). Hunsaker, Chen, Maughan, Heaston (2014) describe compassion fatigue as feelings of hopelessness and apathy (p. 187), which interferes with the ability to perform... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The surveys were numerically coded and only able to be accessed by the researchers. The survey itself included thirty questions that were broken down into three categories about education level, shift length, age, and experience. The categories were compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue, and burn out. Once the surveys were received by the researchers, the information gathered was entered into the Statistical Package for the Social Science. Each category from the survey was then computed into statistics. Out of the 1,000 surveys mailed out, a total of 278 participated. The limitations of the study were a small sample size, low response rate, and the variables were measured at one given time. The results of this study were primarily women, white, married, and worked 12 hour shifts. The mean age of the participants were 44 years old. The years of working as a nurse ranged anywhere from 1 year to 48 years and the largest number of nurses held a bachelor s degree, although it ranged from a diploma to doctorate degrees. This study found that nurses who held higher levels of education, such as master or doctorate degrees, had higher satisfaction in the workplace compared to those who held lower level degrees, such as associates and bachelors. There was no clinical significance in the number of years as a nurse and compassion fatigue, although there was a higher level of satisfaction as a nurse who had been working longer than those who did not ... • 5. The Sun Ernest Hemingway Outside reading assignment In the sun also rises Hemingway s character development of Jake Barnes helps us understand the theme of this book. The way Hemingway does this is through the diction and character development of Jake. Jakes character development is built through a character foil with Robert Cohn, which emphasizes jakes character. Then this character development helps bring the reader to the theme of identity. Furthermore Ernest Hemingway builds the character of Jake by making him the character foil of Robert Cohn which helps emphasize not only jakes character, but also Jake s flaw. Jakes flaw can be interpreted through the character foil as him summiting to what life during the war was like even after the war. Jakes flaw is caused by the hardships he endured during the war, which makes Jake come to know nothing else. His life then was forever changed and lost hence the name lost generation which is the ... We see his insecurity when he says at the Cathedral, I was a little ashamed, and regretted that I was such a rotten Catholic, but realized there was nothing I could do about it , which tells us that he is conscious of his condition, but does nothing to fix it. It is evident that Jake doesn t want to do anything about his problem because when he says, , at least not for a while, and maybe never , he knows the problem is there but dismisses it by saying never. To conclude Jake in the sun also rises is important to the book s plot because Hemingway builds Jake s character through a character foil to emphasize Jake s overall character, and that character development contributes to the theme of identity which Jake thinks he has under control but actually doesn t. The fact that he doesn t have his identity under control explains Jake s strong acceptance to his past war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It casts an almost godly glow around his messy bedroom and it made him squint with annoyance. He glances over at the alarm clock at his bedside and groans. Eight in the morning. Too early for this. Too early to be awake. He makes a mental note to invest in sun blocking curtains, he yawns but pauses when he notices that he s wearing a jacket. A jacket? When had he put that on? Actually, had he never taken his jacket off last night? He always slept with no shirt on and it wasn t even cold outside... Why is he wearing clothes? Did he never take them off? How to Die in Oregon How to Die in Oregon Portland, USA, 107 Min., 3/13/12 9PM (Watched online) How to Die in Oregon is an emotionally charged, and intimate exploration of the controversial Death with Dignity Law passed in the state of Oregon in 1994. How to Die in Oregon received the Grand Jury Prize in the U. S. Documentary Competition at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, along with other countless accolades, and is currently available as an HBO Original Film. In his film, filmmaker Peter Richardson, employs the observational mode of documentary to witness how patients families and friends grapple with the legal option of physician assisted suicide. Richardson produced, directed and captured all the footage himself. The end result is a multitude of powerful one on one interviews, archival footage of patients, and candid long takes. Richardson cuts himself out of the interviews, and edits together strikingly frank sound bytes to showcase his subjects talking about death and the affect of the law. His use of archival footage primarily captures his patients when they were healthy, and provides a striking contrast as they seriously discuss death towards the end of their lives. His use of candid long takes captures some of the most poignant moments of the film, including the final minutes of one man s life after taking the lethal drugs. The camera is a spectator in the room, as the man accompanied by his family; all face his personal decision to die together. All of these different footage types work together to provide emotional weight to an already troubling subject. 2)Richardson s non interventionist style is a prime example of observational documentary, and works specifically well in capturing and promulgating the subject of death. According to Nichols, observational documentaries started appearing in the 1960 s as result of more mobile and smaller equipment. Furthermore, observational documentary stresses non intervention, as filmmakers objectively observe indirect speech, candidness in the form of long takes, and create a world out of historical reality not fabricated with ... • 8. Archetypal Themes In Romeo And Juliet Stories throughout history have used archetypal themes. These themes usually follow certain elements. Sometimes, stories with certain themes alter elements in their own way. This is the case for Ovid s short story Pyramus and Thisbe and Shakespeare s tragic drama The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Both of these stories share the archetypal theme of ill fated love, but use and transform certain elements. Forbidden marriage( an element of ill fated love) has been altered in Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. In Pyramus and Thisbe, Ovid wrote, ...in houses so close together that one wall was common to both. Growing up thus side by side they learned to love each other. They longed to marry, but their parents forbade. (Ovid) . This quote talks about how Pyramus and Thisbe grew up as neighbor and a love began to blossom between them, but their parents forbidden to marry. On the other hand, in The Tragedy Of Romeo and Juliet, this element is altered. Romeo and Juliet weren t directly forbidden to marry, but their families were enemies. In The Swiss Family Robinson , Johann Davis Wyss tells the story of a family shipwrecked on an uninhabited Island. The Robinson family was in a unique situation where they could either fail or flourish. Not only did they flourish, but the parents, especially the father, used every obstacle and every day as an opportunity to teach their four sons to become proper, godly men. Wyss does not simply tell a tale of adventure, but teaches lessons to the readers just as the Robinson father did with his sons. All people, especially children, are in need of admonition. With guidance from their parents, the boys became more obedient, diligent and wise men in each passing chapter. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While out in his cajack , a storm rolled in and the family did not know what became of Fritz. Mother put her trust in Him who alone can comfort (273). When Fritz is found, he is grateful for all God did for him. At the beginning of the story Fritz only seemed impressed with his own designs, now he thanks the Lord without priding himself his own abilities. When one of the boys brought home his bounty with an air of pride the other boys became jealous. The father chided the boy to not be boastful and reminded the other boys of the importance of their work. Later, when Fritz brings back a fantastic bird the boys cheered Bravo! Bravo! (286). After learning the dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as adolescent, social, developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal relationships, personality, and mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my experiences in undergraduate research. For example, I participated in my first independent research experience at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted research in the clinical/community division of the psychology department, and my research focused on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental health service impacted the magnitude of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a wealth of information about tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). James Cameron envisaged the entire concept of this love story during pre production, and uses the idea to manipulate the audience throughout the entire film. Character development in the film was vital, as this led the audienceto care for what actually happened to these people. The death of 1500 people was tragic, but without key characters the audience feels no strong connection to what happens in the film. To make this connection even more effective, he uses a flashbackand framing technique in the telling of the love story. He begins the story in the presentday for the starting proportion of the film. He then uses a flashback sequence to 1912 for the majority of the rest, and then cuts back to the present day for the concluding part of the film. He also visits the present day a few times briefly during the main chunk of the movie set in 1912, to make important links between the two different aged Roses . The first 25 minutes of the film are shot entirely in the present day. The old Rose is shown as a feeble old woman who is being flown out to help a deep sea recovery team in the finding of a priceless diamond necklace. The Rise Of The 19th Century Essay The 14th century Renaissance1 was a transformational period in European history during which society experienced a resurgence of classical beliefs which altered Europe s literature, science, religion, politics, and especially art. The word Renaissance is defined as a revival or rebirth; the period before, known as the Middle Ages, was characterized by feudalism, power of the Catholic Church, and plague. However, as a result of the widespread loss of life caused by the Black Death, there was a rapid growth of commerce, invention, and scholarship. Both men and women returned to classical values and its humanist style of thinking, the appreciation of human capabilities as opposed to the divine or supernatural matters, and ultimately worked towards becoming a Renaissanceman or woman . Those people who spent their lives expanding their horizons embodied the core values of the period and influenced much of modern day society. Leonardo Da Vinciwas one of the greatest of these Renaissance men; his principles and work the Vitruvian man, cannons, the aerial screw, and the Mona Lisa shaped the Renaissance in many ways: socially, politically, and theologically, and scientifically. For each absence beyond the third, your grade will be dropped one step. For example, if you have been absent four times and have a B average, you will be assigned a B .if you are not prepared for class, e.g. You have no rough draft on peer review day, or if you have been consistently late for class, you will be counted absent. We observed rust on the outside as a result of the oxygen combing with the iron. This can best be described as synthesis. In the next experiment we discovered that calcium chloride and magnesium Sulfate produce a substance that looks like milk after it foams. As a result, we contemplated that this was an example of double replacement. In reaction 5 with Zinc and hydrochloric acid we saw that the new product was introduced through bubbling. While our Founding Fathers did not intend for the government to interfere with Church and family roles, it is clear from America s history that this is exactly what has happened. Over the past few centuries, the government has slowly taken over the roles of the Church and family. The role of the Church is supposed to provide hope to the unreached and unsaved and be a place to grow closer to God. The role of the family is to provide care for one another and connect to each other on a personal level. People have come to trust the government rather than trusting the Church. There are many reasons for this including: if there are no jobs, people go to the government s welfare; if you need food, you get food stamps instead of relying on the Church; and if you need medical support, you get Medicaid instead of relying on the Church for support. The government has also taken away the right of talking about God in the public school system. Instead of schools allowing free speech, there are certain requirements about what can and cannot be talked about. Since the government operates the public schools, they get to decide what to teach the kids, even if it is not Spiritually related. Furthermore, giving taxes to the Church is hard to do when you have to pay the Government about 30% of your income. The Bible tells us to give 10% of our income to God. I ve been on a family vacation for ten days that included a road trip to California, Disneyland, the beach, and a family reunion camping trip. It was a pretty ambitious trip and has provided an interesting reflection on budgeting budgeting time, budgeting money, and budgeting food. I read an article recently that said the biggest reason people are late is that they are too optimistic. I laughed out loud when I read that. I so often optimistically try to fit in one more thing before I leave and then end up leaving late or I get too optimistic about there not being any traffic and then I am shocked when I hit traffic and arrive late. Truly budgeting time in a way that makes me not late means budgeting for contingencies, allowing room for things to go wrong, and knowing everything will not go as planned, but still being able to arrive on time. I have to put extra time into my time budget, or I run out of time too soon. I think the same is true for food and money too. I have to plan for contingencies, know everything will not go as planned, and add in extra room when I can. I took money expert Dave Ramsey s Financial Peace University class just before I left on vacation and so made an effort to budget my vacation money the way he recommends, using envelopes for each category. The time period after September 11 in which the comic was devised and then published was the beginning of a very invasive media presence. The way in which the media dramatized its information, and bombard its audience with it, made it very hard for one to distinguish between the facts of events, and the images the media would present us with. This is very much evident in Art s somewhat satirical and cynical representation of the media. Acadian Natives Acadians are the descendants of a group of French speaking settlers who migrated from coastal France in the late sixteenth century to establish a French colony called Acadia in the maritime provinces of Canada and part of what is now the state of Maine. Forced out by the British in the mid sixteenth century, a few settlers remained in Maine, but most resettled in southern Louisianaand are popularly known as Cajuns. Before 1713, Acadia was a French colony pioneered mostly by settlers from the coastal provinces of Brittany, Normandy, Picardy, and Poitou a region that suffered great hardships in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. In 1628, famine and plague followed the end of a series of religious wars between Catholics and Protestants. When social tensions in coastal France ripened, more than 10,000 people left for the colony founded by Samuel Champlain in 1604 known as La Cadie or Acadia. The area, which included what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and part of Maine, was one of the first European colonies in North America. • 31. Compare And Contrast Cyrano De Bergerac A great nose may be an index of a great soul (Rostand 30). This quote by Cyrano is one of many interesting quotes that the play Cyrano de Bergerac contains. The play is a dramatic comedy written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand about a cadet named Cyrano who has fallen in love with the beautiful women Roxane. On the contrary, Roxanne, which is a movie based off of the play Cyrano de Bergerac, takes place in the 1980 s and takes the same plot. The two stories have many comparisons and contrast in many ways. One example of this is between the two characters Cyrano and C.D. Both Cyrano and C.D are known for their incredible ability at doing their jobs. Cyrano is known for being one of the best cadets to ever live and C.D is an excellent Fire Chief. Cyrano is challenged to duel Valvert and during their duel Cyrano starts to realize that Valvert is having trouble with Cyrano. • 32. Human Struggle In The Tokyo Story In Ozu s film, the Tokyo Story, has many scenes that define the human struggle, such as the struggle to make a living, aging and death of loved ones, and the way children eventually fall apart from their parents when they get older. The one human struggle from Ozu s film that influenced the most empathy is the inevitable truth of life that the strugglefor survival in society eventually drifts individuals apart such as parents and they re children when they begin to live independently and become to take care for only themselves because of their daily busy lives. From this film, Ozu introduces a few scenes to compare the similarities of different generations in the relationship between children and parents. The first scene that begins this comparison is when Koichi s son, Minoru, had high hopes of going sightseeing with his parents and grandparents, but when suddenly Koichi had to go see his sick patient and the plans got cancelled, Minoru was very disappointed and angry with his parents because he mentions that they always say they will go next time, but they never seem to keep their words. Ozu includes this scene to show how often parents never seem to keep their promises with their children because they re constantly busy with their own things and not have enough free time to spend time with them. It s just like in reality where parents that struggle financially tend to spend more time at work than at home, thus they never seem to have the time or use their precious time to take their children out because it always involves money. We can understand from both sides of perspective, as the parent and as the child. Many of us as a child have surely experienced the samething atleast one time in our life when our parents never kept they re words and seemed too busy to play with us. If it were from a wealthy family the parents wouldn t have to worry about spending they re money and consume most of their time at work. They would most likely go out more often with their children and take them to places like Disneyland or Legoland such as most families today. When Ozu included the scene when right before they were ready to go out for sightseeing and the patient comes in to see Koichi, shows us that this family is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Man Carrying Thing By Wallace Stevens September 11,2001 was one of the saddest days in American history. As everyone knows, September 11, 2001 was the day that shook the world. It didn t only affect the US but everyone around the world. The people in those buildings were not only Americans but people of every nationality. I don t think that one person knew exactly how to react or think. This tragedy is something that should have never happened from the start. However, it did. Most of America can tell you that they remember exactly what they were doing and where they were on September 11th. Unfortunately, for kids my age, we were just too young to remember the devastating events that happened on this day. Even though it may seem as though many people lost their lives in these tragic events, we have to remember that hundreds and thousands were saved. However, weeks after thousands were estimated dead. Review Of Index Building Methodologies Essay Alexander Khoury 11/7/2014 Review of Index Building Methodologies Introduction: In recent decades, academics, policymakers and non governmental organizations have placed greater focus on establishing more comprehensive metrics of well being and development ##. Measures of national welfare have conventionally centered on a fairly narrow band of economic considerations, such as gross domestic product (GDP) and employment rate. Poverty and wellbeing are now widely understood as multifaceted concepts which cannot be adequately described through measurements of income alone. Economists and development experts are faced with the challenge of constructing metrics to distill the various components of wellbeing into an easily comparable index. The following summarizes the most salient contemporary methods of index construction and provide a brief overview of their strengths and weaknesses. Transformation Functions: In order to build a multi dimensional index it is first necessary to convert the various components deemed relevant into a comparable, aggregatable set of units. That is, to find a way to bring variables like average income (which may be expect to fall in the range of tens of thousands of dollars) and life expectancy (which would rarely exceed 90 years) into the same scale of measurement. The mathematical tools used to accomplish this task are known as transformation functions. We can sort the transformation functions which are relevant to index formation into five ... • 51. Hamlet s Existential Crisis When looking at Hamlet, one could say that William Shakespeare put the play together as a very cathartic tragedy. The emotional result of dealing with so many deaths brings on a plethora of emotions which are not usually felt in a typical play. Hamlet begins not with the normal prosperity and good fortune as do most tragedies, but with a more stifling and depressing sort of mood (Tekany 115). However, something else could be said about this play as well. The play centers on Hamletand his existential characteristics, such as angst, isolation and his confrontations with nothingness. The exhibition of these characteristics proves Hamlet to be an existential character. The idea of Hamlet s father s (King Hamlet of Denmark) passing is what begins the cycle of existential thoughts and feelings within him. From the conflict raging inside Hamlet, stemming from the loss of his father, blooms the beginnings of a bigger, overall existential conflict that soon leads to his cathartic downfall. He visits places filled with nothingness and abhorrence with a sense of frailty and pulsating frustration. Hamlet s existential crisis begins with the death of his father and the remarrying of his mother. At this point, for Hamlet, the questions start pouring in; to be or not to be (Hamlet 3.1.57), and so on. From questioning his existence and fighting with himself about the purpose of his life begins to show the beginnings of the existential crisis that is soon to consume him. Also, this ... • 52. Biblical Interpretations Of Samson s Biblical Quotions Biblical Quotations Samson broke one of his three Nazirite vows: eating anything that is unclean, especially anything associated with the corpse of an animal or human. His vows are brought up earlier in Judges 13 and even earlier in Numbers 6: 6 8 and Samson breaks this vow in Judges 14: 5 9. This is where the narrator is speaking and says starting in verse 8, he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. He scraped it out into his hands, eating as he went (NRSV). Samson seems to break another Nazirite vow in Judges 14: 10 11 when the narrator says, Samson s father goes down to arrange for the marriage, and Same made a feast was was the custom for weddings. The word feast in this context suggests a drinking fest the Nazirite vow says in Judges 13:4, be careful not to drunk wine or strong drink and clarifies more in Number 6: 3 4. Foreshadowing In the TLB version, Samson s parents ask him right away in the beginning, Why must you go and get a wife from these heathen Philistines? From experience, my parents seem to always be right, so after reading that dialogue, I saw some foreshadowing to Samson s wife doing bad things. When he is basing his riddle off of a story, the vocabulary and motifs foreshadow the ultimately deadly encounter between Samson and the Philistines if I were to keep reading into chapter 15. The riddle also tragically foreshadows his demise by revealing that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
