MTV is considered the leading music channel, launching in 1981 and broadcasting music videos globally across multiple genre-specific channels. It was the first channel dedicated to music television, showing music videos 24/7 guided by on-air personalities. Though MTV no longer plays music videos exclusively, channels like MTV Hits and MTV Jams continue this format. The Video Music Awards became MTV's most watched annual event, honoring music with "moonman" trophies.

2.  MTV is considered to be the leading music channel
and has been for many years, having their channels
broadcasting all over the world.
 It’s has several individual channels which show
different genres of music videos such as: MTV MUSIC,
MTV BASE, MTV HITS, MTV DANCE, MTV ROCKS,
MTV CLASSIC.
 It launched on 1 August 1981, based in New York City,
US.
 The first images shown on MTV were a
montage of the Apollo 11 moon landing

 The original purpose of MTV was to be "Music
Television", playing music videos 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week, guided by on-air personalities known as VJs, or
video jockeys
 For the first day MTV managed to show 87 music videos
 During MTV's first few years on the air, very few black
artists were included in rotation on the channel. Those
who were in MTV's rotation included Eddy Grant, Tina
Turner, Donna Summer, Musical Youth, Herbie Hancock,
Grace Jones, and Prince. The very first non-white act
played on MTV in the U.S. was UK band The Specials,
which featured an integrated line-up of white and black
musicians and vocalists

music videos 24/7, several of its spin-off channels do
so, including MTV Hits and MTV Jams
 In 1984, the channel produced its first MTV Video
Music Awards show, or VMAs. The first award
show, in 1984, was punctuated by a live performance
by Madonna of "Like A Virgin". The statuettes that are
handed out at the Video Music Awards are of the
MTV moonman, the channel's original image from its
first broadcast in 1981.
 Presently, the Video Music Awards are MTV's most
watched annual event

 It is the only channel within the Box Television
Network to be branded under Channel 4 and is one
of the only channels in the network to be broadcast
in widescreen
 It broadcasts 24 hours a day
 It shows several programmes on the channel,
including Today's 4Music Top 10, Fresh Music
Top 20, Your Official Top 20, The UK Airplay Top
20, UKHot40, 4Music Doubles

6.  The channel was officially launched on 26
October 2009
 The channel is owned by Viacom International
Media Networks Europe and was originally a
German channel. It is also the first channel from
MTV that is on Freeview
 The channel replaced TMF
 As well as music videos, Viva also shows
programmes from other Viacom channels
including MTV, and Comedy Central.
