2. Music channels started back in 1895 with the first
video was aired in a studio against a wall with a
projector
In the 1970’s saw the birth of MTV which is now the
largest music channel in the world and is known
internationally.
Music channels are television channels especially for
airing artists and bands music and their videos.
There are specific channels dedicated to doing this
and constantly are playing all types of music.
There are many channels for all different genres so
they have been classified and most channels now
have their own chart shows.
3. MTV
MTV is an American music channel that is now shown in
the UK via cable and was founded in the 1970’s. Its based
in New York and is now available across many different
forms on media such as online and by mobile.
When it was first launched only a few thousand people
could actually watch it in New Jersey which highlights how
much they have developed since then.
The channel was originally for just airing music videos and
having its own charts, however it now has its own reality
entertainment programmes too which have helped it gain
its success.
It has many sister channels which it also works alongside
such as MTV Hits and MTV Jams.
The first music video that MTV ever showed was ‘Video
killed the radio star’ by The Buggles.
4. Kerrang TV
•Kerrang television is a channel owned by box television that mainly
airs the pop-punk genre.
•Again it is now well known across many medias such as
radio, magazine and now television as of 2005.
•They don’t tend to have as many reality programmes as MTV but
instead have an open schedule were the audience themselves can
have their input and text in what videos they would like to see.
• The channel is highly based around its audience with only a few
set showings of certain bands with numerous hits such as Greenday
and Paramore.
•Its very similar to the magazine in the sense that it will not talk
about the top charts in the UK but only with bands that they deem
to be suitable to the genre and who are passionate about music.
•It mainly shows American and British music but sometimes
European music can be shown as it is a worldwide channel.

broadcasted in widescreen.
•Its very different from the other music channels as it now mainly
airs TV programmes about artists and celebrities and their day to day
lives rather than actual music videos. They still have their own chart
shows though which is why the two incorporated together work.
•Its very new in comparison to other music channels and keeps up
with all the latest music events showing the iTunes festival, V festival
and also T4 on the beach.
• It gets a lot of support as a channel as its part of the ‘4’
company, therefore sistering channel 4, E4 and Film 4.
