Et in academia ego? Flemish university colleges and academic heritageAcademischErfgoed
This document discusses the results of screening collections at Flemish university colleges. Forty collections were described from six university colleges. The majority of collections originally served an educational purpose but are now inactive, likely due to institutional changes and a shift towards more vocational training. University colleges have undergone significant merging and restructuring over the past century. For example, over 200 institutions were consolidated into today's 17 university colleges in Flanders. While most historic collections date to the 19th-20th centuries and served educational needs, research is becoming more important as university colleges increasingly take on academic functions through "academisation" and integration with universities.
The document discusses academic heritage in Flanders and the challenges it faces. It describes the Interuniversity Platform for Academic Heritage, established in 2007 with 4 founding university members. The platform aims to gain an overview of academic heritage collections in Flanders, raise university awareness of necessary collection policies, and design long-term collection management strategies. A funded project screened collections at 4 universities, finding over 100 collections totaling over 1 million objects, but most lacking digital inventories or conservation policies. The project will now screen other higher education institutions and create stories about significant collection objects and research an online portal for academic heritage in Flanders.

The Partage Plus project aims to digitize over 75,000 Art Nouveau objects from 23 partners in 17 European countries to make them available through Europeana. The two-year project will significantly increase the number of Art Nouveau collections available online. Content will include paintings, drawings, furniture, sculpture, ceramics and architecture. The project website and Europeana will provide access to information on European cultural heritage from the Art Nouveau period.
The National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam underwent a reinvention from 2014-2016 which included developing new exhibitions, programs, and strategies focused on different audience groups. The museum's exhibition strategy involved creating different formats and atmospheres in different areas of the building to appeal to families, students, specialists, and other traditional museum visitors. Evaluation found the new approach increased visitation and satisfaction levels, though budget cuts and competition from other reopening museums impacted attendance. Temporary exhibits on slavery and life at sea helped attract diverse audiences. Future plans include augmented reality experiences and programs using the nearby Navy Dockyard.

Workshop presentation to Sharing is Caring - Hamburg Extension
at Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, 20 April 2017.
As digitisation has become a major task for the cultural heritage sector, more and more cultural institutions are providing access to their digitised collections. But sharing is not only about creating online access, it is about sharing the authority to interpret the digitised assets and to create value by opening them up for reuse. How can opening up result in a mutual benefit for institutions as well as for their audiences and society? And what are the challenges on the way like copyright, institutional policies and not to forget the expectation of the users?
Douglas introduced Europeana to a workshop audience with a special focus on re-use of digital cultural heritage in educational contexts.

The document discusses stakeholder interviews around the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of special collections in libraries, museums, and archives. It proposes that special collections can make sense of open data and aggregation by connecting users to difficult to understand language and concepts in resource discovery. Examples provided of how special collections in local heroes, national events, anniversaries, and areas of staff personal interest could be better utilized and accessed through collaborative aggregation and integration rather than existing as isolated resources.
Museum Collections on Wikipedia: Opening Up to Open Data InitiativesMuseWeb Foundation
The Web has become an important source of information, made possible by structured data. Open linked data enables ubiquitous presence as machines increasingly filter our views—via preferred search engines, the knowledge graph, or Siri—particularly of content found in Wikidata. In this paper, we identify paintings in Wikidata and analyze their usage in the English Wikipedia to find substantial impact. Our results provide evidence that publication of collections as open data facilitate an increase in views, enriched data, automatic translation, and magnified visibility. We find that the usage of paintings and views present a long-tail structure with an underrepresentation of contemporary paintings. Collaborations between museums and Wikimedia yield increased impact, yet projects are unsustainable. We propose an adjusted work-flow to accommodate for Wikimedia projects and amplify the impact of opening museum collections data.
1) There is currently a gap in Flemish academic education regarding museum studies, as existing courses focus only on practical aspects of museum organization and management rather than critical theory.
2) A museum studies course would need to examine how the definition and role of museums has changed over time in response to societal changes like globalization and democratization, and reflect on what museums may become in the future.
3) For a museum studies course to be feasible and useful in Flanders, it would need to have an international scope and aim to be a center of excellence for research and knowledge production about museums.
The museum-library of the GLNF has grown significantly since its inception in 1993 and is now facing space constraints. It houses a wide variety of masonic regalia, jewels, diplomas, artifacts from lodges and daily life, artworks, books, manuscripts, and more. It offers tours for groups and masonic brothers, participates in exhibits, and has a strong online presence to promote its collections. Expansion is needed to continue showcasing the growing number of items in the museum.

The document defines museums as institutions that preserve culturally significant artifacts and objects of historical, scientific, or artistic importance for public education and enjoyment. It traces the origins of the term "museum" back to Greek and Roman times. Key points made include:
- Museums aim to collect, conserve, research, and exhibit objects, as well as educate the public.
- The first national museum was the British Museum, established in 1753.
- According to UNESCO and ICOM definitions, museums are permanent, nonprofit institutions open to the public that acquire, research, and exhibit collections.
- There are over 55,000 museums globally that serve important roles in research, education, and cultural
The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) promotes scientific culture, increases social participation in science, analyzes research and innovation metrics, provides services to support the R&D+I system, and supports the internationalization of Spanish science. A New Strategic Approach To The Museum And Its Relationship To SocietyCarrie Romero
This document summarizes a new strategic approach for museums to engage more visitors and become sustainable. It discusses how traditional blockbuster exhibitions and new buildings increased visitors initially but failed to sustain engagement. The approach focuses on supporting user interaction over broadcasting facts, and measuring success by repeated use not just visits. This was implemented at newMetropolis science center which emphasized skills development over content. The approach is now being tested at mak.frankfurt museum to transform it into a "learning platform" through new facilities, programs, collections, and accessibility measures to attract a broader audience as a "new piazza." The goal is to experiment with a new relationship between museums and society.

This document discusses how natural history museums are evolving from monologues to dialogues by embracing social media and digital platforms. It provides examples of how the Natural History Museum of Barcelona is using internal and external blogs, Facebook, and other social networks to foster two-way conversations about science with staff and the public. By sharing content, stories, and expertise on these platforms, the museum aims to communicate more openly, learn from others, and establish itself as a public forum for discussion about the natural world. It also reflects on challenges like maintaining an active online presence and determining how virtual interactions could reshape the role of physical museums.

"Universe Awareness Sri Lanka – a volunteer effort" by Thilina Heenatigalaunawe
UNAWE Sri Lanka is an astronomy outreach program that began in 2009 as part of International Year of Astronomy. Since then, it has reached over 1500 girl guides and 34 orphanages through its Saturday Astronomy Program and SpaceScoop publications. While volunteers are not always reliable, focused efforts with student ambassadors, interns, and regular meetups have been effective. Moving forward, the program aims to provide astronomy resources for people with disabilities, publish multilingual educational materials, and bring the Universe in a Box exhibit to additional cities.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.
