The neighborhood has a shortage of toilets, with only one bathroom available for every 1,500 residents. As a result, residents use the Mahim River for bathing and relieving themselves, causing ongoing public health problems. There are also large gaps in the supply of drinking water. The water flowing under the neighborhood is heavily polluted, as it receives direct discharge from collectors in the suburb. The problem of insufficient toilets and pollution of the Mahim River has existed since 1946.
