This document summarizes a study on the trajectory and fate of human waste buried in crevasses on Denali glacier. It finds that: 1) Waste will begin emerging on the glacier surface within decades as the burial sites reach lower elevations and ablation occurs. 2) Once emergent, the waste will remain intact and biologically active based on lab and field experiments. 3) Buried waste is already contaminating the Kahiltna River and emergent waste will further contaminate surface waters. 4) Options for addressing the issue include continuing current waste management practices, implementing partial waste removal, or fully packing out all waste. Each option involves different carbon emissions and costs.
