Splitting the number 18
(i) 18 x 7 18
9 x 2
We can write it as 7 x 9 x 2
= 63 x 2 = 126
Splitting the number 45
(ii) 45 x 22 45
9 x 5
We can write it as 22 x 5 x 9
= 110 x 9 = 990.
Here, 22 x 5 can be seen as 22 x 10 = 110.

To get the answer of a number multiplied by 5, we can
get the answer by dividing the number by 2 and
multiplying by 10.
Splitting the number 12
(iii) 15 x 12 12
6 x 2
15 x 12 = 15 x 2 x 6
= 30 x 6 = 180.
Multiplying by 4
(iv) 53 x 4 4
2 x 2
53 x 4 = 53 x 2 x 2
Double of 53 = 106
Double of 106 = 212
Hence, 53 x 4 = 212
Try this with other numbers multiplied by 4.
Multiplying by 8
(v) 26 x 8 8
2 x 2 x 2
26 x 8 = 26 x 2 x 2 x 2
Double of 26 = 52
Double of 52 = 104
Double of 104 = 208
Hence, 26 x 8 = 208
Try this with other numbers multiplied by 8.
