This paper discusses a logging framework and guidelines that provide a proactive approach to logging to ensure that the data needed for forensic investigations has been gener- ated and collected. The standardized framework eliminates the need for logging stakeholders to reinvent their own stan- dards. These guidelines make sure that critical information associated with cloud infrastructure and software as a ser- vice (SaaS) use-cases are collected as part of a defense in depth strategy. In addition, they ensure that log consumers can effectively and easily analyze, process, and correlate the emitted log records. The theoretical foundations are em- phasized in the second part of the paper that covers the im- plementation of the framework in an example SaaS offering running on a public cloud service.
While the framework is targeted towards and requires the buy-in from application developers, the data collected is crit- ical to enable comprehensive forensic investigations. This document summarizes a research paper that proposes a method for dynamically measuring coupling in distributed object-oriented software systems. The method involves three steps: instrumentation of the Java Virtual Machine to trace method calls, post-processing of the trace files to merge information, and calculation of coupling metrics based on the dynamic traces. The implementation results show that the proposed approach can effectively measure coupling metrics dynamically by accounting for polymorphism and dynamic binding, overcoming limitations of traditional static coupling analysis.

Software metrics are increasingly playing a central role in the planning and control of software development projects. Coupling measures have important applications in software development and maintenance. Existing literature on software metrics is mainly focused on centralized systems, while work in the area of distributed systems, particularly in service-oriented systems, is scarce. Distributed systems with service oriented components are even more heterogeneous networking and execution environment. Traditional coupling measures take into account only “static” couplings. They do not account for “dynamic” couplings due to polymorphism and may significantly underestimate the complexity of software and misjudge the need for code inspection, testing and debugging. This is expected to result in poor predictive accuracy of the quality models in distributed Object Oriented systems that utilize static coupling measurements. In order to overcome these issues, we propose a hybrid model in Distributed Object Oriented Software for measure the coupling dynamically. In the proposed method, there are three steps
such as Instrumentation process, Post processing and Coupling measurement. Initially the instrumentation process is done. In this process the instrumented JVM that has been modified to trace method calls. During this process, three trace files are created namely .prf, .clp, .svp. In the second step, the information in these file are merged. At the end of this step, the merged detailed trace of each JVM contains pointers to the merged trace files of the other JVM such that the path of every remote call from the client to the server can be uniquely identified. Finally, the coupling metrics are measured dynamically. The implementation results show that the proposed system will effectively measure the coupling metrics dynamically.
Can “Feature” be used to Model the Changing Access Control Policies? IJORCS
Access control policies [ACPs] regulate the access to data and resources in information systems. These ACPs are framed from the functional requirements and the Organizational security & privacy policies. It was found to be beneficial, when the ACPs are included in the early phases of the software development leading to secure development of information systems. Many approaches are available for including the ACPs in requirements and design phase. They relied on UML artifacts, Aspects and also Feature for this purpose. But the earlier modeling approaches are limited in expressing the evolving ACPs due to organizational policy changes and business process modifications. In this paper, we analyze, whether “Feature”- defined as an increment in program functionality can be used as a modeling entity to represent the Evolving Access control requirements. We discuss the two prominent approaches that use Feature in modeling ACPs. Also we have a comparative analysis to find the suitability of Features in the context of changing ACPs. We conclude with our findings and provide directions for further research.

Architecture descriptions greatly contribute to the understanding, evaluation and evolution of software but despite this, up-to-date software architecture views are rarely available. Typically only initial descriptions of the static view are created
but during the development and evolution process the software drifts away from its description. Methods and corresponding tool support for reconstructing and evaluating the current architecture views have been developed and proposed, but they usually
address the reconstruction of static and dynamic views separately. Especially the dynamic views are usually bloated with low-level information (e.g. object interactions) making the understanding and evaluation of the behavior very intricate. To overcome this,
we presented ARAMIS, a general architecture for building toolbased approaches that support the architecture-centric evolution and evaluation of software systems with a strong focus on their behavior. This work presents ARAMIS-CICE, an instantiation
of ARAMIS. Its goal is to automatically test if the run-time interactions between architecture units match the architecture description. Furthermore, ARAMIS-CICE characterizes the intercepted behavior using two newly-defined architecture metrics.
We present the fundamental concepts of ARAMIS-CICE: its meta-model, metrics and implementation. We then discuss the results of a two-folded evaluation. The evaluation shows very promising results.

The model classifies resource utilization into states representing CPU utilization intervals. Two metrics are used to evaluate reservation quality: failure rate, which measures the fraction of times reserved budget was insufficient; and resource waste, which measures unused budget. STATE OF THE ART SURVEY ON DSPL SECURITY CHALLENGESIJCSES Journal
The Dynamic Software Product Line (DSPL) is becoming the system with high vulnerability and high confidentiality in which the adaptive security is a challenging task and critical for it to operate. Adaptive security is able to automatically select security mechanisms and their parameters at runtime in order to preserve the required security level in a changing environment. This paper presents a literature review of
security adaptation approaches for DSPL, and evaluates them in terms of how well they support critical
security services and what level of adaptation they achieve. This work will be done following the Systematic
Review approach. Our results concluded that the research field of security approaches for DSPL is still
poor of methods and metrics for evaluating and comparing different techniques. The comparison reveals
that the existing adaptive security approaches widely cover the information gathering. However, comparative approaches do not describe how to decide on a method for performing adaptive security DSPL or how to provide knowledge input for adapting security. Therefore, these areas of research are promising.

In the process of software architecture design, different decisions are made that have systemwide
impact. An important decision of design stage is the selection of a suitable software
architecture style. Lack of investigation on the quantitative impact of architecture styles on
software quality attributes is the main problem in using such styles. So, the use of architecture
styles in designing is based on the intuition of software developers. The aim of this research is
to quantify the impacts of architecture styles on software maintainability. In this study,
architecture styles are evaluated based on coupling, complexity and cohesion metrics and
ranked by analytic hierarchy process from maintainability viewpoint. The main contribution of
this paper is quantification and ranking of software architecture styles from the perspective of
maintainability quality attribute at stage of architectural style selection.

This document summarizes a research paper that proposes a method for dynamically measuring coupling in distributed object-oriented software systems. Software metrics are increasingly playing a central role in the planning and control of software development projects. Coupling measures have important applications in software development and maintenance. Existing literature on software metrics is mainly focused on centralized systems, while work in the area of distributed systems, particularly in service-oriented systems, is scarce. Distributed systems with service oriented components are even more heterogeneous networking and execution environment. Traditional coupling measures take into account only “static” couplings. They do not account for “dynamic” couplings due to polymorphism and may significantly underestimate the complexity of software and misjudge the need for code inspection, testing and debugging. This is expected to result in poor predictive accuracy of the quality models in distributed Object Oriented systems that utilize static coupling measurements. In order to overcome these issues, we propose a hybrid model in Distributed Object Oriented Software for measure the coupling dynamically. In the proposed method, there are three steps
such as Instrumentation process, Post processing and Coupling measurement. Initially the instrumentation process is done. In this process the instrumented JVM that has been modified to trace method calls. During this process, three trace files are created namely .prf, .clp, .svp. In the second step, the information in these file are merged. At the end of this step, the merged detailed trace of each JVM contains pointers to the merged trace files of the other JVM such that the path of every remote call from the client to the server can be uniquely identified. Finally, the coupling metrics are measured dynamically. The implementation results show that the proposed system will effectively measure the coupling metrics dynamically.
Can “Feature” be used to Model the Changing Access Control Policies? IJORCS
Access control policies [ACPs] regulate the access to data and resources in information systems. These ACPs are framed from the functional requirements and the Organizational security & privacy policies. It was found to be beneficial, when the ACPs are included in the early phases of the software development leading to secure development of information systems. Many approaches are available for including the ACPs in requirements and design phase. They relied on UML artifacts, Aspects and also Feature for this purpose. But the earlier modeling approaches are limited in expressing the evolving ACPs due to organizational policy changes and business process modifications. In this paper, we analyze, whether “Feature”- defined as an increment in program functionality can be used as a modeling entity to represent the Evolving Access control requirements. We discuss the two prominent approaches that use Feature in modeling ACPs. Also we have a comparative analysis to find the suitability of Features in the context of changing ACPs. We conclude with our findings and provide directions for further research.

Architecture descriptions greatly contribute to the understanding, evaluation and evolution of software but despite this, up-to-date software architecture views are rarely available. Typically only initial descriptions of the static view are created
but during the development and evolution process the software drifts away from its description. Methods and corresponding tool support for reconstructing and evaluating the current architecture views have been developed and proposed, but they usually
address the reconstruction of static and dynamic views separately. Especially the dynamic views are usually bloated with low-level information (e.g. object interactions) making the understanding and evaluation of the behavior very intricate. To overcome this,
we presented ARAMIS, a general architecture for building toolbased approaches that support the architecture-centric evolution and evaluation of software systems with a strong focus on their behavior. This work presents ARAMIS-CICE, an instantiation
of ARAMIS. Its goal is to automatically test if the run-time interactions between architecture units match the architecture description. Furthermore, ARAMIS-CICE characterizes the intercepted behavior using two newly-defined architecture metrics.
We present the fundamental concepts of ARAMIS-CICE: its meta-model, metrics and implementation. We then discuss the results of a two-folded evaluation. The evaluation shows very promising results.

STATE OF THE ART SURVEY ON DSPL SECURITY CHALLENGESIJCSES Journal
The Dynamic Software Product Line (DSPL) is becoming the system with high vulnerability and high confidentiality in which the adaptive security is a challenging task and critical for it to operate. Adaptive security is able to automatically select security mechanisms and their parameters at runtime in order to preserve the required security level in a changing environment. This paper presents a literature review of
security adaptation approaches for DSPL, and evaluates them in terms of how well they support critical
security services and what level of adaptation they achieve. This work will be done following the Systematic
Review approach. Our results concluded that the research field of security approaches for DSPL is still
poor of methods and metrics for evaluating and comparing different techniques. The comparison reveals
that the existing adaptive security approaches widely cover the information gathering. However, comparative approaches do not describe how to decide on a method for performing adaptive security DSPL or how to provide knowledge input for adapting security. Therefore, these areas of research are promising.
Evaluation of the software architecture styles from maintainability viewpointcsandit
In the process of software architecture design, different decisions are made that have systemwide
impact. An important decision of design stage is the selection of a suitable software
architecture style. Lack of investigation on the quantitative impact of architecture styles on
software quality attributes is the main problem in using such styles. So, the use of architecture
styles in designing is based on the intuition of software developers. The aim of this research is
to quantify the impacts of architecture styles on software maintainability. In this study,

Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

Service-based applications are multi-layered in nature, as we tend to
build software as a service on top of infrastructure as a service.
Adaptation and monitoring goal:
Observe different quality values
corresponding to the specified
requirements (KPI, PPM, SLAs),
and, in case of the violation of the
target values,
Adapt the running business process
(or future instances) so the violation
is either prevented or corrected.
5. Problem Description
Most existing SOA monitoring and adaptation techniques address
layer-specific issues. These techniques used in isolation, cannot
deal with real-world domains:
1. The violation of the high-level SBA requirements may be motivated by
different factors and at different layers and components. Given the
complexity of the application it is not possible to immediately discover
which specific element caused the overall quality degrade.
2. Even if the problem is identified, it may not be clear whether the
associated adaptation action is suitable. Indeed, the adaptations should
be analyzed with respect to the impact they may have on other elements
of the SBA and on the other requirements.
Multi-layer monitoring and adaptation is essential in
truly understanding problems and in developing
comprehensive solutions.

Goal: reveal correlations between what is being observed at the software
and at the infrastructure layer to enable global system reasoning
Sensors deployed throughout the system capture run-time data about its
software (Dynamo/Astro) and infrastructural (Laysi) elements.
Dynamo/Astro provides means for gathering events regarding either process
internal state, or context data
Laysi produces low-level infrastructure events and can be queried to better
understand how services are assigned to hosts.
The collected data are then aggregated and manipulated (EcoWare) to
produce higher-level correlated data under the form of general and domain-
specific metrics.
Possible to use predefined aggregate metrics such as Reliability, Average
Response Time, or Rate, or domain-specific aggregates whose semantics is
expressed using the Esper event processing language.

Monitoring and correlation produce simple and complex metrics that need to
be evaluated.
A Key Performance Indicator consists of one of these metrics (e.g., overall
process duration) and a target value function which maps values of that
metric to a set of categories (e.g., process duration < 3 days is “good”,
otherwise “bad”).
Goal: if monitoring shows that many process instances have bad KPI
performance, we need to analyze the influential factors that lead to these
bad KPI values

Receives the (software, infrastructure, aggregated) metric values for a set of process instances within a
certain time period
Uses machine learning techniques (decision trees) to find out the relations between a set of metrics (potential
influential factors) and the KPI value based on historical process instances
Adaptation needs analysis tool:
Receives the decision tree and an adaptation actions model (manually defined) specifying a set of adaptation
actions (e.g., service substitution, process structure change) and how they affects one or more metrics
Extracts the paths which lead to bad KPI values from the tree and combines them with available adaptation
actions which can improve the corresponding metrics on the path, obtaining different sets of potential
adaptation actions

Goal: Manage the impact of adaptation actions across the system's
multiple layers.
This is achieved by the Cross Layer Adaptation Manager (CLAM) in two ways :
Identifying the application components that are affected by the adaptation actions
Proposing an adaptation strategy that properly coordinates the layer-specific
adaptation capabilities
To achieve its goal CLAM relies on
A model of the SBA containing the current configuration of the system components
(e.g. business processes, services, infrastructure resources) and their dependencies
A set of pluggable checkers, each associated with a specific application concern
(e.g. service composition, service performances, infrastructure resources), to
analyze whether the updated application model is compatible with the concern's
requirements.

SBA Model Updater
Whenever a new set of adaptation actions is received from the Quality Factor Analysis tool, the SBA Model Updater
module updates the current application model by applying the received adaptation actions
Cross-Layer Rule Engine
Detects the SBA components affected by the adaptation and identifies, through a set of predefined rules, the associated
adaptation checkers.
Each checker is responsible for checking local constraint violations and for searching local solutions to the problem. This
analysis may result in a new adaptation action to be triggered. This is determined through the interaction with a set of
pluggable application-specific adaptation capabilities.
The Cross-layer Rule Engine uses each checker's outcome to progressively update the adaptation strategy tree.

In case of multiple available adaptation strategies (paths in the adaptation tree), selects the best adaptation strategy
according to a set of predefined metrics

Multi-layer adaptation and monitoring approach for SBA:
The approach is based on a variant of the well-known MAPE
(Monitor, Analyze, Plan and Execute) control loops that are typical
in autonomic systems.
All the steps in the control loop acknowledge the multi-layered
nature of the system, ensuring that we always reason holistically,
and adapt the system in a cross-layered and coordinated fashion.
The proposed framework integrates a set of adaptation and
monitoring techniques, mechanisms, and tools developed within
the S-Cube project
The approach has been evaluated on the e-Health CT-Scan
scenario.
32. Conclusions and Future work
Future work includes:
Evaluate the approach through new application scenarios.
Add new adaptation capabilities and adaptation enacting techniques.
Integrate new layers, such as a platforms, typically seen in cloud
computing setups, and business layers. This will require the development
of new specialized monitors and adaptations
Study the feasibility of managing different kinds of KPI constraints.
