Multiple disabilities or multi-handicapped refers to the presence of two or more severe disabilities, such as intellectual disability combined with blindness, deafness, or orthopedic impairment. Students with multiple disabilities make up between 1-3% of the school-aged population and have difficulties in two or more areas such as communication, daily living skills, and mobility. Common examples of multiple disabilities include locomotor disability with speech impairment, intellectual disability with blindness, and mental retardation with orthopedic impairment.
