Performance of CBR Traffic on Node Overutilization in MANETsRSIS International
Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) are power constrained since nodes are operated with limited battery supply. The important technical challenge is to avoid the node overutilization and increase the energy efficiency of each node with increasing traffic. If a node runs out of battery, its ability to route the traffic gets affected and hence, the network lifetime. There has been considerable progress in the battery technology, but not in par with the semiconductor technology. There are various techniques adopt the different approaches to achieve energy efficiency. The proposed approach uses a cost metric for path selection, which is a function of residual battery and current traffic load at a node. Further, the simulation and performance is carried through Qualnet network simulator. From the simulation results, it is observed that the proposed scheme has lower node overutilization with the less CBR connections.

Improvement of crankshaft MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks: a simula...IJECEIAES
Due to the dramatic growth in the use of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applications ranging from environment and habitat monitoring to tracking and surveillance, network research in WSN protocols has been very active in the last decade. With battery-powered sensors operating in unattended environments, energy conservation becomes the key technique for improving WSN lifetimes. WSN Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols address energy awareness and reduced duty cycles. The focus of this study is to investigate, through simulation, the effect of variations in various factors that influence the performance results of WSNs. Using MiXiM framework with OMNeT++ simulator, this simulation study proposes modifications in Crankshaft MAC protocol in order to improve its performance. The impact of duration and number of slots, degree of connectivity among the nodes, mobility speed and mobility update interval and also, the impact of sending data packets without preambles are investigated. Based on the simulation results, an improved version of the Crankshaft protocol for WSN is suggested and a comparative study of the performances of the original and improved protocol is presented. The results clearly indicate the superiority of the improved protocol over its original version.
VIRTUAL ROUTING FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT IN NFV-BASED NETWORKS UNDER NETWORK DELAY...IJCNCJournal
NFV-based network implements a variety of network functions with software on general-purpose servers and this allows the network operator to select any capacity and location of network functions without any physical constraints. The authors proposed an algorithm of virtual routing function allocation in the NFVbased network for minimizing the total power consumption or the total network cost, and developed effective allocation guidelines for virtual routing functions. This paper evaluates the effect of the maximum tolerable network delay on the guidelines for the allocation of virtual routing functions, which minimizes the total network cost. The following points are clear from quantitative evaluations: (1) The shorter the maximum tolerable network delay, the greater the number of areas where the routing function must be allocated, resulting in an increase in the total network cost. (2) The greater the routing function cost relative to the circuit bandwidth cost, the greater the increase in thetotal network cost caused by the maximum tolerable network delay. This paper also provides the possible
guideline how to decide the value of maximum tolerable network delay when the condition of allowable increase in network cost is given.

The NGN (next generation network) initiative -why? and who benefits? It has not proved to be a success. The world should carry on with the present mixed networks of TDM and IP with media gateways to interface between the two.
Explains how the PVDTN-STS may be used to build secure State WANs and integrated National WAN with e- and m-governance through public portals connected to the Internet, but without impairing the security of the SWANs and NWAN.
Explains how all VPN networks (MPLS or otherwise) are built over Telephone Service Providers (TSPs) IP Core networks, and why they are security vulnerable.
Shows the format in which the location-wise details of the organisations are required to be furnished for network design and set-up and running costs. Additional inputs of organisations' total telecom and datacom costs, and also present cost of inter-locational travel will help in providing the payback period of the set-up costs.
This document shows how point-to-point leased lines are built over the public PSTN / TDM networks and how it ensures the segregation of these from the public network. These lines ensure that MAN / WAN built with such lines are automatically segregated from the external network (integrated)
Explains the difference of PVDTN-STS with present connectivity methods; explains the security vulnerability of all VPN (MPLS or otherwise) networks used for MAN / WAN connectivity. The key to the system is the Secure Switch ( a 3 position, electromechanical, microprocessor driven, RJ45 switch) and the STS system covered by letter of patent 262590, which facilitates segregation at LAN level, simultaneous presence on the Internet through the public or Web server, and exchange of publishable information / data and mail between the internal and external networks without impairing the security of the former.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
