Proposal for mentoring young women by using
creative arts
o Project I Can See In Color is a mentoring
program for young women in inner cities.
o Sex, Peer Pressure, Drugs, Bullying and
Conforming to societies standards plague the
youth of today.
o Not Just a Rich/Poor or Black/White problem,
it is an urban issue that starts at home.
Qualifications
 I’m a Young African-American Woman
 Over the last 18 yrs. I have dabbled in many
mediums of art including Dance, Music, Radio,
Branding and Marketing.
 I have volunteered for countless organizations
mentoring youth.
 I have a passion to help guide young women.
Current Situation
 Girls are having babies younger and younger.
 Drug experimentation is becoming normal.
 The suicide rate in girls between the ages of 13-25
has increased drastically over the last 10 yrs.
 Self-Esteem and Perception is based on what
young girls are seeing in the media.
 If unchecked, this problem will grow and continue
to effect us directly as well as indirectly.
Plan
 Start a Mentoring Program just for young
women.
 Held once a month in different middle and
high schools.
 Creates a forum which promotes healthy
listening and communication skills.
 Teaches self love and respect through
fashion, dance and drama.
Budget
 Vendor Application for HISD $100
 Travel Expenses $3600
 Beverages & Refreshments $2400
 Miscellaneous Expenses $6000
 Total Annual Cost at Start $12,100
Conclusion
 This plan is very much needed.
 Everyone can relate to or knows someone
who will benefit from a program like this.
 The cost does not exceed the reward.
 In the long run, Project I Can See In Color will
help young girls blossom into adulthood and
make better life changing decisions.
