Morphology is the study of word forms and the rules by which words are formed. It examines the internal structure of words. A morpheme is the smallest meaningful unit that cannot be divided further. Morphemes are divided into free morphemes, which can stand alone, and bound morphemes, which need to be attached to a free morpheme to convey meaning. Examples are given of words with one, two, three, or four morphemes.
