Display fonts in all capital letters would match the conventions of the masthead title "RPM".
Main task
For their main task, the student must create a front cover, contents page, and double page spread for a new music magazine of their own invention aimed at a clear target audience. They will use at least 4 of their own photos alongside original text elements. Photoshop will be used to edit photos and design the front cover, while InDesign will lay out the contents page and article pages. The student's research, planning, process, and evaluation will be documented on a blog using Blogger, and works will be shared using Slideshare and HTML links.

- 1. Masthead – The masthead is large and majusxule in a sans serif font this shows that the music type is not formal and is more like the classic rock era. The colours of black and the metallic silver brings out that feel more as those colours are connoted with the 70's rock era. The fact that it is in the centre of the page shows that it is meant to be the centre of attention and read first. The big size shows that it is the most important piece of text on the page. Also the silver bevel makes the masthead stand out on the page; almost jump out, so this is jumping out at the reader once again making it seem most important. Main Image – The main image is very simple but is the largest thing on the page, it is also in the foreground and over the masthead this shows that the main image is used to attract the audience more than any other conventions. The picture is a long shot so has the full body however the background is just plain white so that the cover lines are easier to see. The use of the long shot shows: clothes, body language, facial expressions, and props. The use of these clothes and props shows that the main model has fashion and is in the music scene as he is holding a guitar. Also his stance is that of a jive which was very popular in the classic rock 'n' roll scene. Also the shadow on the floor makes the model once again seem like it is jumping out to the audience, which could attract the audience to the magazine on the shelf. Main Cover line – The main cover line of 'A Date With Elvis', is positioned on the left hand side of the page so it is the first thing read, showing it's importance. The fact that it is in a serif font shows that there is an element of formality to this magazine, possibly because it is aimed at an older audience meaning more formal may be more attractive. The fact 'Elvis' is written in red and downwards draws the eye of the reader making it obvious that it is the main cover line. Cover lines – The cover lines are all similar in font and colour; they are all in majuscule so therefore stand out and show that they are important on the page. The colours of the text also show importance on the page, for example the most important pieces of writing on the page are in red as this is a colour that stands out the most, the next most important is black as compared to the final colour of silver it stands out considerably. The use of the cover lines fills all space making the magazine cover seem very professional. Also there is the yellow background blocks that jump out at the reader meaning that these are things that might attract the audience the most. Header – The header is there as added information including all the colours to show different types of importance. The picture links to the text on the header and has a stroke around it that suggests that it is a picture that has been printed. This suggests that it is a memorial as the picture is greyscale. It is also going towards that elder more sophisticated aesthetic. Main Cover line – The main cover line of 'A Date With Elvis', is positioned on the left hand side of the page so it is the first thing read, showing it's importance. The fact that it is in a serif font shows that there is an element of formality to this magazine, possibly because it is aimed at an older audience meaning more formal may be more attractive. The fact 'Elvis' is written in red and downwards draws the eye of the reader making it obvious that it is the main cover line. Plug – The plug of 'Free CD' is definitely a convention used to attract the audience. The yellow box with the black and red text is contrasted so stands out in the corner; there is a drop shadow also which makes the the plug jump out to the reader from the shelf. The use of something free also makes the magazine more attractive because the reader will feel like they are getting more for the money they spend. Bar code/Date/Issue Number – The bar code is solely there to make the magazine purchasable, it is least important so it is in the bottom right hand corner. The date and issue number is there for collectors of the magazine can keep track of the magazines they have bought; these are also located in the bottom right as this is the least important because it does not attract the reader.
