Module 2 Assignment: Case Study Analysis An understanding of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems is a critically important component of disease diagnosis and treatment. The process involves administering drugs to ensure that the immune system does not repel the organs being transplanted (McCance & Huether, 2019). The physicians must first carry an examination of different body organs them makes a prescription to the patient. During the process, the doctor monitors the patients effectively on a close observation. Immunosuppression has different side effects in the body, some of which arise due to the drugs ( citation needed). Theories of aging are important aspects of understanding the aging process. The
theories give society different methods to understand how and why aging occurs, even
though not all of the theories are accurate. Most theories of aging have some sort of
research that back them, unlike personal experiences or educated guesses. Theories of
aging change our perception of adults and aging by giving us an understanding of the
process of aging. If we are able to better understand how aging occurs and why it occurs,
society is more likely to accept the process and accept elders. Theories of aging are
relevant to those who work with older adults because theories can help workers focus on
specific aspects of aging to increase care. An example is our knowledge of the
immunological theory. As we age our immune system deteriorates leaving elders more
susceptible to disease; workers can attempt to improve sanitation of elder care to decrease
risk of diseases. The quality of programs and services of older adults can be improved by
the theories because they allow for a better understanding of the development of older
adults, which allows caretakers to improve their approaches to care.
The biological theory of free radicals contributes to the physical aspect of aging.
Free radicals are waste products produced by cells, specifically, molecules of ionized
oxygen that have an extra electron (Moody & Sasser, 2014, p. 21). The free radicals
cause damage because they bond with proteins and other structures in the body, which
can inactivate them and make them unable to function. The amount of free radicals in the
body increase as people age. This causes mutations, damage to organs, and ultimately the
symptoms we see as aging. The body does create antioxidants, which are protection
against free radicals; they find and destroy the free radicals, preventing damage of cells

(Moody & Sasser, 2014, p. 62). Although it is thought that consuming antioxidants will
slow aging, studies have only shown minimal effects (Moody & Sasser, 2014, p. 62).
Schöttker et al. (2015) studied if free radicals were associated with mortality,
more specifically the association of derivatives of reactive oxygen metabolites (d-ROMs)
and total thiol levels (TTL) with mortality from all causes, cardiovascular disease, and
cancer. The study was conducted on two groups. The first group was Health, Alcohol and
Psychosocial Factors in Eastern Europe (HAPIEE) from Poland, Czech Republic, and

Introduction
Mr. X has a medical diagnosis of stage 3 chronic kidney disease. According to the interview, he has a little bit of an understanding of his condition, though his level of awareness is low. He pointed out that the condition has changed his relationship with family and friends. The quality of life of individuals is closely related to the quality of life of those around them (Golics, 2019). In this journal, Golics further went and published that most chronic illnesses have the same impact on the family. In this case, chronic kidney disease has disrupted the psychological, emotional, and normal functioning of the family and some friends of Mr. X. Even the study advocates for a family-centered approach to care the disruptions brought about by the disease process negatively affect the wellbeing of the patient.
According to the stages of grief, Mr. X is at the level of acceptance same to the family. This stage means the patient has understood and accepted what the condition means to his life. The family members and friends have also reached the acceptance stage and are with him in his hard moments. Acceptance is not necessarily an uplifting stage of grief, it may mean that there may be more good days than bad but there may be still bad – and that is ok (Holland, 2018).
Coping mechanisms
Dealing with chronic illnesses requires coping skills to avoid sinking into depression. As for Mr. X, the main coping skill is lowering expectations of the awaited outcome. For example, if his blood has been taken for waste analysis before dialysis when the results come, he has trained himself not to expect much to avoid disappointments if otherwise. In addition to lower expectations, Mr. X also asks for help if need be, especially financial support. Change of source of stress and distance from the source of help has also been practiced by Mr. X to cope with stress. Finally, maintaining emotional composure has also been deployed by the patient to avoid stress (Coping skills and strategies, 2017).
Treatment of CKD
The treatment for Mr. X is partly symptomatic and largely therapeutic. For example, on occasions where the hemoglobin levels are low, he is given ferrous sulfate tablets or iron injections to control anemia. Diuretics such as furosemide are given to the patient to control edema. He is put on antihypertensive drugs to control his blood pressure which is the suspected root course of his condition. He also attends two sessions of hemodialysis each week to eliminate wastes from the blood (Medication, 2019).

It has been found that over the past 40 years the dominant paradigm for understanding severe mental illness has shifted from a psychosocial model that emphasized factors such as parental and intrapsychic influences to a current biopsychosocial model that emphasizes the interplay between biological and psychosocial factors (Drake, Goldman, Green, & Mueser, 2003). The history of care and treatment of mental illness presents as an endless journey between the mental hospital and living in the community. In reviewing articles it is intriguing to learn of the evolution from mental illness. In the 17th century mental illness was considered as an individual and not societal issue to be handled by the family. Next, came about treatment with minimal research such as the malaria therapy in the 20th century. Followed by the field becoming psychodynamic and analytical with synthesis of the first psychoactive drug, Thorazine in the 1950s. Then the discussion of patients’ rights (Civil Rights Movement) came about and has led to current progression to demanding the treatment of mental health in the least restrict setting for treatment.
I have always had the assumption that when working with the mental needs of an individual, it takes a collaborative approach as it would with the physical needs. With the physical need, for example, if an individual had a swollen face and went to their general physician, who may refer them to an allergist for further examination and rule out. In this case the allergist who would communicate with the general physician of findings and probably follow-up. This cycle of communication typical continues with the stakeholders of the individual in care to include family members. My assumption was that, that is the same in mental health. However in reviewing the history of mental health, I was unaware that many nonmedical practitioners are not comfortable communicating with those prescribing medication. Another highlighting point of history is the notion of losing a client to the psychologist if referred to the psychologist for psychological testing.
Literature reveals that in the 1980s, mental health clinicians and policy makers began to recognize the high rate and clinical consequences of comorbidities among persons with severe mental disorders. Treatment interventions that target symptoms and illness have gradually been extended to comorbid conditions, such as substance abuse and common associated medical problems. It is enlightening to know that collaborating learning experiences led to integrated treatment approaches in which mental illness, substance abuse, and medical problems were treated by the same usually through the work of multidisciplinary team of clinicia.

Human Health and Disease is an upper-level science course. You will learn about the human body and its structural components and

“Mrs. Walsh, a woman in her 70s, was in critical condition after repeat coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Her family lived nearby when Mrs. Walsh had her first CABG surgery. They had moved out of town but returned to our institution, where the first surgery had been performed successfully. Mrs. Walsh remained critically ill and unstable for several weeks before her death. Her family was very anxious because of Mrs. Walsh’s unstable and deteriorating condition, and a family member was always with her 24 hours a day for the first few weeks.
The nurse became involved with this family while Mrs. Walsh was still in surgery, because family members were very anxious that the procedure was taking longer than it had the first time and made repeated calls to the critical care unit to ask about the patient. The nurse met with the family and offered to go into the operating room to talk with the cardiac surgeon to better inform the family of their mother’s status.
One of the helpful things the nurse did to assist this family was to establish a consistent group of nurses to work with Mrs. Walsh, so that family members could establish trust and feel more confident about the care their mother was receiving. This eventually enabled family members to leave the hospital for intervals to get some rest. The nurse related that this was a family whose members were affluent, educated, and well informed, and that they came in prepared with lists of questions. A consistent group of nurses who were familiar with Mrs. Walsh’s particular situation helped both family members and nurses to be more satisfied and less anxious. The family developed a close relationship with the three nurses who consistently cared for Mrs. Walsh and shared with them details about Mrs. Walsh and her life.
The nurse related that there was a tradition in this particular critical care unit not to involve family members in care. She broke that tradition when she responded to the son’s and the daughter’s helpless feelings by teaching them some simple things that they could do for their mother. They learned to give some basic care, such as bathing her. The nurse acknowledged that involving family members in direct patient care with a critically ill patient is complex and requires knowledge and sensitivity. She believes that a developmental process is involved when nurses learn to work with families.
She noted that after a nurse has lots of experience and feels very comfortable with highly technical skills, it becomes okay for family members to be in the room when care is provided. She pointed out that direct observation by anxious family members can be disconcerting to those who are insecure with their skills when family members ask things like, “Why are you doing this? Nurse ‘So and So’ does it differently.” She commented that nurses learn to be flexible and to reset priorities. Geely, which owns Swedish brand Volvo Cars, Malaysia’s Proton, and a stake in Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler, will invest Rmb2.27bn ($325m) in a new development centre and factory to manufacture satellites this year, the company said yesterday.
The announcement makes Geely the first known Chinese carmaker with plans to build its own satellites. Mr Li’s move sparked comparisons in China media with Elon Musk, founder of electric carmaker Tesla and private space exploration company SpaceX.

Position Paper
This paper will present an overview of the history of mental illness and will include its impact on stigmatization and replacement by psychotherapy. It has been found that over the past 40 years the dominant paradigm for understanding severe mental illness has shifted from a psychosocial model that emphasized factors such as parental and intrapsychic influences to a current biopsychosocial model that emphasizes the interplay between biological and psychosocial factors (Drake, Goldman, Green, & Mueser, 2003). The history of care and treatment of mental illness presents as an endless journey between the mental hospital and living in the community. In reviewing articles it is intriguing to learn of the evolution from mental illness. In the 17th century mental illness was considered as an individual and not societal issue to be handled by the family. Next, came about treatment with minimal research such as the malaria therapy in the 20th century. Followed by the field becoming psychodynamic and analytical with synthesis of the first psychoactive drug, Thorazine in the 1950s. Then the discussion of patients’ rights (Civil Rights Movement) came about and has led to current progression to demanding the treatment of mental health in the least restrict setting for treatment.
I have always had the assumption that when working with the mental needs of an individual, it takes a collaborative approach as it would with the physical needs. With the physical need, for example, if an individual had a swollen face and went to their general physician, who may refer them to an allergist for further examination and rule out. In this case the allergist who would communicate with the general physician of findings and probably follow-up. This cycle of communication typical continues with the stakeholders of the individual in care to include family members. My assumption was that, that is the same in mental health. However in reviewing the history of mental health, I was unaware that many nonmedical practitioners are not comfortable communicating with those prescribing medication. Another highlighting point of history is the notion of losing a client to the psychologist if referred to the psychologist for psychological testing.
Literature reveals that in the 1980s, mental health clinicians and policy makers began to recognize the high rate and clinical consequences of comorbidities among persons with severe mental disorders. Treatment interventions that target symptoms and illness have gradually been extended to comorbid conditions, such as substance abuse and common associated medical problems. It is enlightening to know that collaborating learning experiences led to integrated treatment approaches in which mental illness, substance abuse, and medical problems were treated by the same usually through the work of multidisciplinary team of clinicia.

The insights gained from this type of research can then positively impact health outcomes locally, nationally, and globally.

organ systems of the human body. The goal is to use scientific reasoning to make informed decisions about matters related to human biology
and health. Topics include infections, cancer, heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, stroke, malnutrition, poisoning by environmental toxins,
stress, inflammation, disorders of the immune system, and aging. Emphasis is on analysis of factors that cause disruption of healthy body
functions, leading to disease, and on prevention of disease through control of risk factors and early detection. Students may receive credit for

Human Health and Disease is an upper-level science course. You will learn about the human body and its structural components and
mechanisms that help the body maintain optimal working order. We will explore the relationship between the body's structure (anatomy) and
function (physiology), learning how the body works when it is healthy and what happens when it is affected by a disease.
We will learn to distinguish between healthy and diseased function of the various levels of organization in the body starting from the smallest

Geely is aiming to be the first China carmaker to design and build satellites to support its autonomous driving programme, the latest step by founder Li Shufu in his bid to build an industry leader.
Geely, which owns Swedish brand Volvo Cars, Malaysia’s Proton, and a stake in Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler, will invest Rmb2.27bn ($325m) in a new development centre and factory to manufacture satellites this year, the company said yesterday.
The announcement makes Geely the first known Chinese carmaker with plans to build its own satellites. Mr Li’s move sparked comparisons in China media with Elon Musk, founder of electric carmaker Tesla and private space exploration company SpaceX.
Last month Geely drew comparisons with Volkswagen when Mr Li’s holding group announced plans to merge Geely Automobile and Volvo Cars, moving the company towards becoming the first global Chinese carmaker.
Che Jun, Communist party boss of China’s eastern Zhejiang province, where Geely is based, said that the complex would be built in Taizhou city and that construction had begun.
The centre will design, test and manufacture low-orbit communication satellites, purpose-built to improve geolocation of vehicles and to support their connected functions, Geely said.
Geely has been pouring money into new technologies from self-driving cars to flying taxis, spending Rmb20bn on research and development in the past year.

Nonprofit organizations are increasingly dependent on the involvement of Millennial
constituencies. Three studies investigated their motivations to support charity-linked
events: emotional identification with a cause, self-determination theory (SDT) regula-
tions, and context-related Facebook promotions. This article addresses the recent call to
expand SDT research from a simple analysis of autonomous versus controlled moti-
vation, to studying the effects of all the regulations in the SDT continuum, in particular,
the inclusion of the tripartite dimensions of intrinsic motivation and integrated moti-
vation. Results demonstrated that the greater the emotional identification with the
cause, the stronger was the tendency to support the charity-linked event. Also, the
results in these social media contexts revealed that specific intrinsic dimensions (e.g.,
experience stimulation) are motivators of online and offline support, as is the personal
value nature of integrated regulation. Whereas only autonomous motivational regula-
tions predicted support for the two events organized specifically a for charitable causes,
both autonomous and controlled regulations predicted support of a for-profit event
organized with a charitable cause as an adjunct. These findings can assist practitioners
in designing more effective social media communications in support of charity-linked
events.

Social media is a new domain offering excit-
ing opportunities to investigate research ques-
tions in social psychology (Greitemeyer, 2011;
Kende, Ujhelyi, Joinson, & Greitemeyer, 2015).
Our research examined motivation to support
charity-linked events of nonprofit organizations
that are currently faced with increased compe-
tition for resources and declining government
support (Paulin, Ferguson, Jost, & Fallu, 2014;
Reed, Aquino, & Levy, 2007; White & Peloza,
2009). Presently, they depend on an ageing set
of traditional supporters (Urbain, Gonzalez, &
Le Gall-Ely, 2013). However, their future suc-
cess lies in ensuring the sustainable involve-
ment of the Millennial generation (Fine, 2009),
distinguished from other generations by their
intense exposure at an early age to interactive
technology and social media (Bolton et al.,
2013).

Monica asked that we meet to see if I could help to reduce the differences between them. When the time came, she started the conversation by saying that Richard wasn’t saving any money at all. They hadn’t started implementing. She said he spent a good deal of time buy- ing and selling stocks. He seemed to be influenced by the weekly ups and downs of the market. At least temporarily, however, he had raised the quality of the stocks he was buying.
Richard seemed a little annoyed and said that Monica never wanted to sell any securities. She almost always told him to wait. She said the shares would come back. When I asked what money meant to them, Richard said an opportunity to gamble and Monica replied a chance to lose what you’ve accumulated. As far as their long-term goals were concerned, Richard said he had no real long-term goals. The future was too fickle. He said who knew what fate had in store for them. Monica’s goal was to feel secure. I had the feeling that her remark was in response to Richard’s behavior. She wouldn’t allow herself to think of anything beyond security until Richard’s activities could be controlled.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
