 Raises the bar for what students should know by 12th
grade

 RtI focuses on whether the students are responding
to the instruction.
 Because Common Core is being adapted by many
states it is important to know how that will affect RtI.

Marjorie Y. Lipson many changes will occur.

 For example it is clear that teachers look at the “big five”
to evaluate students

Now the first 3 are under the “foundational skills” which is
focused in grade k-5 and vocabulary is under the
language strand while comprehension is everywhere.

5. RtI and CCSS
 New assessments are being introduced and there’s
an emphasis on higher order skills, increased
content knowledge, and ability to engage with
complex texts
 Students will be tested by reading writing and orally
proving they understand.
 The IRA’s goal is to intervene early so that students
can be a part of the CCSS curriculum.
