- Facilitate an open discussion ensuring no judgments are presented by other students; each student, depending on offense, will have difference beliefs. These beliefs must be understood as individual; one student does not have to agree with another’s beliefs. Write student responses on flip chart/board
- Present definition and connect with student’s definitions/descriptions
- After making sure all students understand the word synonym, ask the question and facilitate a discussion about words/phrases that mirror the words ethical behaviors (give some examples – joyful, elated, glad; explanation, answer, response…). Write student responses on the flip chart/board
- Present dictionary synonyms – only point out one the students did not have on the flip chart/board list
- Again, this discussion must remain non-judgmental, however in relationship to the definition and synonyms the instructor should gently challenge as appropriate (e.g. “that’s a great comment – how does that connect/match with our earlier definition/discussion of ethical behaviors?”)
- Some of these at first glance appear to be similar; they should be viewed as more serious – such as dishonest – lying versus fraud – breaking a law. Again highlight ones the students might not have on their chart paper/board list – equally praise for the ones identified
- This should focus on the building of a good reputation; a business that is reliable; relationships that are trustworthy and have integrity. The risk factor is simply that business will not grow without good ethical practices and the student will not be able to sustain self even with great braille transcribing skills.
- Using their Reflection and Thinking Journal have the students identify the above elements that are critical to them as the become braille transcribers; things they will ant to have as a foundation to their microenterprise.
