MOBILE E-VOTING SYSTEM USING ANDROID
APPLICATION FOR HIGHER LEARNING
INSTITUTIONS
(A Case of Taita Taveta University College)
MORINE GAKII GITONGA
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
 Time consuming -Existing manual system of voting.
 Long queues-Students may also leave without voting.
 High intolerable percentage of lost or even miscounted ballots.
 Result of the election does not notify all the students immediately.
 Too much paper work - difficult as papers become bulky.
 Errors during data entry.
 Students locked out from voting.
The officials who facilitate the voting process and voters experience hard time using
the current voting system-manual system.
OBJECTIVES
General objectives
To analyze the current election system and suggest modern development of an electronic
online voting mobile application which will allow voters to cast their votes in a more
convenient way.
Specific objectives
 To review the current voting system with a view of specifying requirements for a mobile
application voting system
 To design a mobile application prototype of a voting system for students.
 To develop a mobile application voting system that is transparent, reliable, tamper proof
and that will provide a platform for voting of students.
 To come up with a mobile application that will send reminders through use of alerts to
remind students to vote.
 Test and review the system for usability and functionality.
PROJECT JUSTIFICATION
Provision of improved voting services to students through fast and convenient
voting.
Reduction of the cost incurred by the university during voting time in paying the
very many clerks employed for the sake of success of the manual system.
Check to ensure that the members who are registered are the only ones who should
vote.
reinforce its transparency and fairness.
Increased turnout of Votes.
SYSTEM REVIEW
OVS Gujarat Mobile App, is a newer and
innovative approach of State Election
Commission of Gujarat that provides
facilities of User Registration for Online
Voting and many other facilities.
The main purpose of the application is to
enable the voter to create an account and
cast a vote online and Ensure transparency.
There is research gaps in terms of tools &
technology.
SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT METHOD
 Rapid Application Development- development methodology designed to give much
faster development and higher quality results.
Advantages of RAD
• Reduced development time
• High quality system is created
• Reduce cost
• Increased reusability of components
• Greater flexibility
• Encourage customer feedback
RESEARCH DESIGN
• Its where the researcher manipulates one variable and manipulates the rest of
other variables.
• It is choose based on range of factors i.e. feasibility, time ,Cost, ethics and
measurement problems.
• The researcher chose different data collection methods like questionnaires,
interviews etc.
• Experimental research design
System Requirement Analysis
Functional Requirements
 The system will be able to allow the students to
create an account.
 Allow registered users to login to the system.
 The system should authenticate users during login.
i.e. the user should be what he/she claims to be.
 The system should allow an authenticated user to
cast a vote.
 The system should send voting results to students.
 The system should allow the administrator (voting
officer) to manage candidates. i.e. adding
contestants, removing contestants
Non-Functional
 System will support response time for
addressing severe issues in less time.
 system will provide documentation to inform
users of system functionality and any change
to the system.
 system will provide friendly graphical Interface
to ensure ease of use when end users utilize
system functionality.(Usability)
 The system will be able to be integrated in
future if need be.
 The application will be available all the time for
students on google play to download
USE CASE DIAGRAM
Conclusion
• This research forms a guideline for election generals in developing a fully
functional system that has the potential to increase voter turnout and
participation. subsequently reinforce transparency and fairness.
