This document provides information on citing sources for research papers using MLA (Modern Language Association) style. It discusses the three main parts of MLA citation: 1) quoting and paraphrasing information from sources, 2) providing in-text citations for quoted or paraphrased information, and 3) creating a Works Cited page listing all sources. Examples are given for different source types like books, websites, videos, and more.
Avoiding Plagiariarism and using MLA Citationstj2009
The document provides guidance on avoiding plagiarism by properly citing sources using MLA style guidelines. It explains the three main ways to integrate outside sources into work through quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. It also outlines the three step process for in-text citations which includes pausing to give credit to the original author and creating a works cited list.
This document provides instructions for an assignment to analyze content from news articles found using the LexisNexis database. Students are asked to search for articles mentioning their assigned organization from the previous 3 months. They then analyze how the organization and its representatives are portrayed, how data is used, and evaluate the organization as a resource for journalists. The analysis should be one page, cite specific quotes and data found, and be submitted through SafeAssign and in hard copy with a bibliography. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.

This source is an article for the con side of the research topic. Almanza, Pfizer, and
Mousislli examine blogs and internet sites that allowed amateur writers to publish or self-
publish whatever stories they chose. The authors provide examples of stories as tinder for
their strong polemic on the personal essay. They also include a graph that details the start
of what they term the “Dread Rise,” or the rise in popularity of the personal essay; the
graph starts in 2008 and ends in late 2016. The graph will be used as a visualization of
the rise and fall of personal essays. Almanza et al. also argue that the more confessional
personal essays devalue the entire literary community by allowing writers to publish
work based on shock value instead of literary merit. They provide a few excerpts from
confessional essays that are truly absurd to thoroughly prove their point. These excerpts
will be used to argue the con part of the research paper’s argument.

examples each and discuss the changes in form and diction. Examples of poetry and
feature articles are also provided and examined. Gordon and Arden believe that the rise in
personal and confessional essays affected the formal nature of writing in all genres. They
note that, societally, formality has changed writing and everything else, but there is a
large difference in the writing of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and feature writing after the
3
resurgence of the personal essay. There was also a rise in the personal and sometimes
irrelevant information included in an attempt to get readers to engage with a particular
publication exclusively. The readerships for the publications publishing personal essays
went up, but all of them saw a huge drop off in November 2016, causing a major shift in
the editorial processes of many publishers online or otherwise. Many online publishers
closed. The examples of the different kind of writing will be used to show the differences
in the writing styles.

Week 5 - Final ProjectFinal Enterprise News Story
The enterprise news story is a type of specialized story that is not based on breaking news or press conferences. These stories are focused more on the underlying factors that shape those events. Enterprise news stories are driven by keen observation and investigation to really get to the root of the issues that exist.
This final assignment requires you to write one enterprise news story that will be adapted for both print publication and broadcast media. You will choose a story around one of the specialized types of journalism covered in the course: sports journalism, entertainment journalism, business journalism, government journalism, environmental journalism, or cultural journalism. You must choose a real-world publication for which to write the print story and a real-world program for which the broadcast story will appear. Although you will not submit your story to the media outlets, the assignment will require that you understand the organizations as well as the audiences that you are writing to and creating the broadcast script for. You are required to use at least five sources of information for each story.
Topics and Issues
To spark your critical thinking process regarding what to write about, you should access print publications as well as broadcast programs about the genre of specialized journalism covered in this course that interests you most. In addition to your local media outlets, you should also read and view national publications and broadcasts to broaden your scope of knowledge about what is trending in the genre you chose to write in. The Ashford University Library has the following newspaper databases that may also be helpful: Newspaper Source Plus, ProQuest Newsstand, and Canadian Newsstand.
Sources of Information
Gathering information from credible sources is a very important aspect of the journalism field. For this reason, you must provide a variety of credible sources that can be verified. You must use the following types of information sources for this assignment:
· At least one face-to-face or phone interview with a person who can lend credible information for your story
· At least one phone or email interview with a person who has an opposing viewpoint from the first interviewee
· Two statistical or factual pieces of information about the topic or issue
· These sources should come directly from the Ashford University Library. They may be scholarly publications or trade journals that specifically focus on the area.
· Two opposing opinions about the topic or issue derived from CQ Researcher (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
· CQ Researcher is a database that offers a collection of opinion articles from experienced journalists on a variety of topics. Econ 310
Lowenberg
Term Paper Assignment Due Thursday, April 23
In fulfillment of the University Upper Division General Education requirement, students in
Econ 310 must write a 2,500 word paper. The paper must be an original piece of work.
Plagiarism (e.g., copying-and-pasting from a web site without acknowledgement of the
source) will result in a grade of zero being assigned to the paper.
The paper must be typed and double-spaced in 12-point font with normal one-inch margins,
in which case a 2,500 word document will be approximately 8.5 pages long.
All sources used in the paper must be listed alphabetically by author in a “List of
References” appearing at the end of the paper. Do not list items that are not cited in the
paper. Use a consistent style of footnotes, endnotes or textual references to cite sources.
The List of References itself, of course, does not count toward the 2,500 words.
Staple the paper at the top left-hand corner. Please do not place the paper in a plastic or
cardboard cover or binder of any kind.
The purpose of the paper is to demonstrate your ability to apply price theory to explain some
interesting attributes of any chosen industry or to understand the effects of some public
policy. Below are three suggested topics for your paper, together with suggested
information sources on each. These suggested topics are intended to be merely illustrative:
you do not need to write on any of them. However, you can pick one of these topics if you
wish, or choose a topic of your own. If you choose one of the topics listed below, you may
use the sources provided, and/or find your own. However, you must cite at least two
sources in your paper. While it is acceptable to refer to newspaper or magazine stories (a
magazine that is particularly helpful in providing topical news coverage of these issues is
The Economist, www.economist.com), at least two of your sources must be scholarly
articles or books similar to those listed below. Again, remember to clearly reference any
sources that you use.
If you choose a topic of your own, instead of one of those given below, it would be a good
idea to clear it with me first, to make sure that the subject matter is appropriate and feasible.
In this case you will be primarily responsible for finding sources of information on your
topic, although you can certainly ask me for help during office hours.
The textbook may be a useful source for your paper, especially in providing the analytical
tools you will probably need. Although it is fine to cite material from the textbook, the
textbook does not count as one of the two scholarly sources you are required to use.

This document provides guidance on evaluating online sources, citing sources, paraphrasing, and avoiding plagiarism for academic writing. It discusses evaluating the credibility and reliability of online sources. It also explains the differences between citation, paraphrasing, and plagiarism. The document emphasizes keeping careful notes about sources, using quotation marks for direct quotes, and citing sources both in-text and in a references list. It provides examples of proper APA in-text citations and reference list entries. Finally, it discusses signal phrases to introduce outside information and clearly indicate what ideas are your own versus coming from another source.
This document provides guidelines for in-text citations in MLA style. It explains that parenthetical citations are used to refer to other works in the text. The information required in the citation depends on the source type and corresponding entry in the Works Cited list. Specific examples are given for citing print sources with a known author and non-print/internet sources. Citation information must match between the in-text citation and Works Cited list.

For this project I have chosen the issue of police brutality which is gradually crawling back specifically affecting youths and teens residing in low economic suburbs in Georgia.
My project will therefore target the residents in these localities particularly the youth, parents and opinion shapers with regards to shaping public policies. These stakeholders include activism NGOs, social researchers and the local political leadership.
This initiative was inspired by a presentation made by Isabela Robinson on Ted Talks in March last year where she suggested the evils subjected on young citizens by the police and the effect this has on their development (TEDx Talks, 2019).
Research Question- The role of social media in reporting cases of police brutality in low economic status suburbs in Savannah.
To collect primary data for my study, I have interviewed two victims of this social evil, their respective parents and have complemented this information with records of hospitalized victims and an expert opinion from a local researcher affiliated to social activism firm in Savannah.
In this project I will persuade the residents of the suburbs to embark on forming social networks and giving these cases the publicity they need to be exposed and attended.
To successfully convince the residence to use social media to root out police brutality I will use experts and opinions from authorities of the sociology of policing, present to them statistics of those affected by the issue and the worrying trend and later present the sorry states of those whose lives have been negative affected by the issue.
However, disrespect for authorities in many instances prompt the police to apply violence (Silver, 2017). I will emphasize on cooperation with the police and a call for the youth to desist from violence and drug abuse as the police have cited these as their resolve to apply violence to apprehend some youths.
To seek more information on this project, I have used the PsycINFO catalogue in the Cleveland State Community College to identify scholarly articles relating to the issue. Here is have found articles and videos which are more important as they have more elaborate data. I have not had any trouble sourcing information on the project.
