Mitosis is the process of asexual cell division that results in two identical daughter cells. It has four main phases - prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. In prophase the duplicated chromosomes condense and attach to the spindle. They then line up at the equator in metaphase. In anaphase, the sister chromatids are separated and moved to opposite poles. Finally, in telophase the cytoplasm divides completely to form the two new identical cells, each with the full diploid chromosome number.
