WHO IS MISS MARPLE??
 Agatha Christie first wrote a series of six short stories for a
a magazine. She created six characters who meet once a
week in a small village and discuss unsolved crime.
 These six people are
 Miss Marple, an old woman who is very clever;
 Raymond West, her nephew;
 Joyce Lemprière, an artist;
 Sir Henry Clithering, a well-groomed man;
 Dr Pender, an elderly clergyman;
 Mr Petherick, a solicitor.
 To Agatha Christie, Miss Marple was born at the age of
65-70.She endowed Miss Marple with some of her
Granny’s powers and similarities.
 This amazing and adventures book takes us to many
unsolved crimes which may be scary but amusing!!
THE BLOODSTAINED PAVEMENT
 The story takes place in a village named Rathole, in a
little steep Cornish street, Joyce Lemprière who is
narrating the story visits for a forthnight to sketch.
 As soon as she starts to draw, she notices a man and a
woman coming out of a car. After a short time another
car veers, stops and a woman gets out.
 As soon as the second woman, Carol gets out of the
car, the man, Denis recognises her and introduces her
to his wife Margery. Carol was an old friend of Denis.
 They all agree to go bathing and Denis insists to go out
with the boat, but Carol hates boats, so Denis and his
wife Margery decide to go with the boat and meet Carol
there.
 On their return from their outing with Carol, Denis
and Margery hang their swimsuits at the balcony .
 While painting Joyce is interrupted by a local, who
uninvitingly relates to her the story of Rathole. In
the meantime, Joyce notices that by mistake she
had painted some blood stains on the pavement .
 All there really was, was a dried stain under the red
and blue bathing suit hanging from the balcony.
 Suddenly Denis comes out and asks them if they
have seen Carol, as she hasn’t returned to her
room yet.
 He went to look for her and left Margery at the inn.
After looking everywhere, he found her clothes
lying on a rock but could not see her anywhere.
 A week later, while Joyce was in another village to sketch, she
observed a similar event she had previously seen in Rathole.
She saw Denis meet Carol, but instead of Margery she saw
another woman and again they all decided they to go bathing.
 Joyce went to the police station to report this strange
information. There she found a man from Scotland Yard to
whom she explained everything, in fact he was there because
he had been noticing the same thing as well.
THE END OF THE CRIME:
What do you
think
happened in
the end???
True Facts:
o Denis is married to Carol.
oThey both invented a plan to earn some
money in a criminal way.
oWhen they went to the beach together Carol
and Denis murdered Margery and so Carol wore
Margery’s clothes so that no one would see the
difference.
o That is why Joyce drew the blood on the
pavement because blood dripped from the red
swimsuit that Margery was wearing when Carol
and Denis killed her.
‘’There is a great deal of
wickedness in village life. I
hope you dear young
people will never realise
how very wicked the world
is.’’
